My fiancé and I are obsessed with this place. We live walking distance from this restaurant and it's quickly become our go-to. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable for anyone new to their menu. They are fast and efficient every time. Food is constantly 5 star quality in terms of flavor and amount. And there is far more seating than you can see from the outside. I am a huge fan of BBQ but my dang stomach can't do it so much anymore along with the spicy stuff. Sad face. Some places have way overly smoked flavor to their meats where it has made me actually puke, that's how sensitive my dang stomach is. Not here. I can handle it and their sauces are awesome. Love the brisket and their birria tacos are bomb. We've been a few times now and brought family when their in town and each time has been phenomenal. The friendly service and the food are top notch. We've gotten the platter each time and it feeds 4 of us. The kids go for the sausage and Mac and cheese, since they haven't expanded their flavor horizons too much yet. The restaurant inside has minimal seating since it's like a small cottage house. All the seating is outside mainly at picnic benches and tables. I really like the way they have the food assembly inside though. They have the order taker meat chopper guy, who hands it off to the sides guy and then the ringer upper. OMG where has this place been all my life? Never been here before but knew about it and live close. Tried it with my husband's coaxing and came back 2 days in a row, lol! Chicken tacos are the BEST with the pickled onions, fresh pico and delicious hot N' sweet sauce, YUM! Add in the frozen margarita and banana pudding and I'm sold. I'm moving in! Staff were responsive and checked on us after we started eating. The team seemed to really care about our experience. Sat outside at 3pm and the misters kept it surprisingly refreshing. Ok parking is a bit of an issue. Park on the side street and walk up is your easiest plan. Inside seating...no really. But there is plentiful outdoor seating and lots of misters and fans. You'll be fine. But the real treat here is the foot. The choke verde was on points. Their brisket is classic tasty Texas style bbq with all the good salsa and onions. Just stopped in here to try the birria tacos. OMG!!! Why didn't we go here sooner?! Standing there waiting to order, we were having a tough time figuring out what all we wanted to try, so decided on the Mexi-Q platter. So much good food!! Everything was delicious, but the birria tacos were both my wife's and my favorite. The inside dining is really small, like one long table and a bar-like table; that's it. They have tons of outdoor seating with misters going. With it being 111 outside, we opted to squeeze into a corner at the bar table. In hindsight, it probably would have been more comfortable outside. So keep that in mind when choosing the times you go. We will definitely be back for more tacos! Yum! read more

Love Caldwell's BBQ and decided to try their mexicue. We've been multiple times now. My wife's favorite here is the brisket taco, that's become her regular order. My absolute favorite is the birria taco. Great birria stew on fresh fried corn tortilla. Also really like the carnitas taco. Plenty more to explore on the menu. 1000/10 OH MY TASTEBUDS! Barbecue HEAVEN is all I want to say but I'll give you guys more! My family and I got the mexi-q platter, this consisted of tender, juicy, brisket cooked to perfection. On this platter was also two birria quesatacos which were large in my opinion, compared to 90% of birria quesatacos these were enough to fill you up after just the two. Also included on the platter were three bacon-wrapped jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, they called these "mexi-q twinkies" I will be back just for these alone, it was a flavor explosion in my mouth, crunchy bacon with a warm soft filling and a spicy kick left lingering from the jalapeño. The two sides we chose were elote and beans, both were good, next time I'll ask for extra twinkies instead of the sides though. The brisket tostada was the last thing on the platter and was piled high with refried beans at the base, a mound of brisket and topped with crumbled cheese and pico. We are a family of five and couldn't finish everything so take that into consideration if it's just two people or three you might have some leftovers to take home! There was a sign up there that they cater and I will definitely be looking into having them cater any and every event I have in the days/months/years to come! PS I didn't get to take any photos because everyone was starving and dug into the food while I was getting our drinks but there are pictures already on their yelp page just go take a look! I have two reviews in one here since the Clay Dawgs Yelp page was converted to Caldwell County Mexi-Q. I uploaded Clay Dawg pictures since there would be no other Yelp page for Clay Dawgs. Both places were 5 stars for me! We ate lunch here at Clay Dawgs on 8/7/21 after 1pm which was when this place was called Clay Dawgs before the Mexi-Q came out. There was nobody here but it was a hot day. We ordered the Clay Dawg, Chili Cheese Dog, Mac N Cheese Dawg, and the Brisket Dawg. Our food was done really quickly and we ate outside. There were patio misters outside so it wasn't bad through the hot day. The Clay Dawg was good, the Chili Cheese Dog was delicious, the Mac N Cheese was good, and the Brisket Dawg had good smoked flavor. Each was a little small but was enough and all were good choices. Later, we found out this place turned into Caldwell County Mexi-Q which sounded good to us. We came back to try what this place turned into and it was still the same owner as Clay Dawgs. Anyways, we tried two Brisket Birria Tacos, a Smoked Carnitas Taco, and two Julio's Mac 'N Cheese. There was outdoor seating and the part that was for a drive-thru was now a place to sit on picnic tables. There was BBQ sauce available as well. The Brisket Birria Tacos were delicious, the Smoked Carnitas Taco was also delicious, and Julio's Mac 'N Cheese was good. I would recommend any of those. So I didn't feel like driving over to Higley Dogs or a MX hotdog joint. Therefore; Pulled pork it was. Half house sauce and half mustard sauce. Love their BBQ sauces! Buns are good. Pork is very good. Mac n cheese is not my style - seasoned up with pepper and it's indeed flavorful, but a wee 'gummy thick' and heavy on the pepper....but this is JUST MY personal mouthfeel...if you like heavy cheesy then you'll likely enjoy the Mac here! I was a little shocked when going in to order food. I saw the cashier with gloves on and he was typing in the order and then opening the fridge or oven with the same gloves and getting my meat out and using the same gloves to separate the meat. He also grabbed a tray with those same gloves. I told him I was shocked by this and that is called cross contamination. He went on to tell me that it is ok and that he had saran wrap on where he types in the food orders and other excuses. After I waited for my food, I noticed he still never changed his gloves for other customers. I will say the food is so delicious, but they need two people. They need one to type in the order and another to grab the food and shred it. I have gone many times to the other Caldwell's and they have one person who gets the meat out and another to put the order in so you can pay for it. I realize this is a small place. Please make some changes before someone gets sick. read more

Super friendly service. Ambiance inside is casual and easy. There's also seating out back and on the South side with picnic tables and umbrellas, some shade, some sun, very comfortable. Food quality and portions are phenomenal! We had the Mexican-Q platter. It includes sausage which was mild and delicious, creamy and densely packed where the casing pops when you bite it. Excellent. It also included smoked brisket which had delicious bark, a nice smoke ring, smokey but not overpowering flavor, a little dry in spots but the custom ai-jus with light cinnamon and other flavors was incredible and made it some of the best I've ever had. The elote was creamy, smokey, soft but with crunchy smoked corn, fantastic. The Julio's Mac N Cheese is think, rich, creamy and delicious! The Mexican twinkies are brisket and cheese stuffed peppers, wrapped in bacon. They were my last favorite of all the foods on the platter, but we're still really good! The pulled pork looks like it would be plain or even a bit dry, but it's not, it actually needs nothing, and I'm a HUGE sauce guy who would definitely use it, but it's so good, mellow smoke, perfect temp that it needs nothing! Okay, maybe a side of slaw :-) Last, but not least, the brisket tostada, wow! A huge pile of brisket, covered with super fresh and fully drained pico de gallo and cotija cheese and a zigzag of red sauce - all on a homemade crispy, light, flakey, crunchy, thin deep fried corn tortilla that reminded me of those perfect tortilla bowls used for taco salads. The entire thing was magic! Everything is super high quality and homemade. Amazing Mexican food paired with some of the best bbq in Arizona. Bbq is cooked by Mike, a true pit master, over pure local mesquite, smoked in some of the nicest, best constructed, highest quality bbq pits I've ever seen. I've participated in professional bbq competitions and always check out the pits at bbq restaurants, the pits here are fully custom and amazing. Check out the pics! We happen to be driving through Gilbert and saw this place. We were all intrigued about the idea of Mexican barbecue. It was great! The interior is small and has limited seating, but there is plenty of seating outside. They do have misters for the heat, but I imagine this place will be really nice in the winter time. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They were quick and efficient. You order your food, and by the time you get to the end of the counter to pay, it is ready to go. Lots of people coming through, and they took care of them quickly and efficiently. I had the brisket sandwich, which was loaded with tender meat. Their house barbecue sauce and the hot and spicy barbecue sauce, were our two favorites. The others had pulled pork, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The elote was warm and delicious.
