I'm used to the Power location Caldwell so when I was in the area, I thought I'd stop by and give it a try. The place is set up the same where you walk up and order and pay, sit and eat. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. They were out of birria tacos that day which was the biggest reason to visit but, oh well, I tried the carnitas tacos. As a person who hand makes corn tortillas weekly for my family, I can tell you that they need to learn how to warm up a tortilla. It was taken from the fridge and gently skimmed the griddle then filled with meat which meant the tortillas was still stiff and barely edible. I'll excuse that because the meat was flavorful and plenty. But please, please, learn how to properly warm up a fridge corn tortilla... It makes a huge difference when it gets warmed up correctly and you enjoy it much so much more!! The Mexican Twinkie was good but a little disappointing for $4 you should get at least 2 of them not one lonely jalapeno :/. The creamed elote was delicious, no complaints there. The portion sizes were small based on the prices they charge, the brisket was dry, the tostadas were soggy, the elote was watery, and the customer service was seriously lacking. Having previously eaten at Caldwell County BBQ, which I recommend, I had high expectations for Caldwell County Mexi-Q, but Mexi-Q was a complete and utter disappointment. In fact, Caldwell County BBQ should remove its name from Mexi-Q as there is a major disparity in quality between the two eating establishments. First off I was very excited to go here because of the high rating and from the menu, it seemed like Gilbert was getting a mini version of Pink's Hot Dog of LA! Lesson learned (happens to me all the time): don't go into any new restaurant with too high of an expectation. I mean it's not that bad. Just not a 4 or 5 star place. The location is a bit north of all the busy restaurant cluster of downtown Gilbert, so they'd have to serve up some seriously good food for the business to last. The concept is good and they did a nice job with the decor. The place is small and when the chairs are pulled out, it's impossible to pass by due to the tight space. There are plenty of outdoor seating, but during the summer they'd be useless. They do have a drive-thru which's nice for those who can't find seating. What we ordered: Chili Dawg, Brisket Dawg, and a regular dawg with relish. The sausage meat on the regular dawg was very salty. The buns on all of the dawgs were the same and even if they are sturdy enough to hold all the toppings, I didn't like that they chewy to an extent of being rubbery. The buns weren't served warm but it felt like they might have been microwaved? Chili topping was tasty and Brisket Dawg was good with the sauerkraut but the brisket was dry. I don't think they make the brisket on site, because I don't see them making any meat there and they were very dry and not fresh. It was good to try once, but I wouldn't go back just to go there unless I was on my way somewhere and happen to pass by. Tip on the service to the owner: when you call the number of the guest and the guest picks up the order from the counter, someone should be there to say "enjoy your meal" or something to that extent. When our number was called, the food were sitting there at the counter and three guys were standing with their backs toward us and just talking. Not grilling anything. We said thank you and they didn't respond. This didn't bother me much but just an observation from a customer's point of view. read more

The establishment is super cute and modern looking and it definitely has been upgraded from what it used to look like. The cashiers were friendly and got us through quick. The ordering process is super simple. I ordered a polish dog combo with onions and relish. (The combo comes with chips and a medium drink) My friend had a chili cheese dog combo and my sister had a brisket dawg combo. Both the brisket and chili cheese dawgs are a part of their speciality dawgs so they are a $1 more. We didn't wait too long and our orders were up. We sat outside on the patio and dug in. We've been eagerly anticipating the opening of Clay Dawgs and it lived up to the hype! The dawgs were perfectly smoked to juicy, tender perfection. The mesquite flavor was subtle but present. I love how they cut the dog, it allows the smoke flavor to permeate and allows perfect transportation for the sauces to your mouth! We tried three speciality dogs. The slaw dog, the chili and the mac-n-cheese. They were all super good. The sauces are delicious. The yummy sauce is everything you'd hope a hot dawg sauce to be; sweet with a punch of vinegar and a little heat. The yummy sauce is a must try. The mustard bbq sauce from their sister restaurant, Caldwell County is a favorite and was delicious on a dawg. As well as their hot-n-sweet bbq sauce which is so good. The customer service was incredible! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We came at the end of the night and you'd never know it by their cheerful disposition. There was a really positive, friendly vibe happening. The newly renovated space looks modern. I love the design style of Clay Dawgs. It was clean and inviting and smelled incredible. My husband took me on a brunch date to Mexi-Q after he had gone before with some co workers. Absolutely delicious bbq with a Mexican twist . We ordered the Mexi-Q platter, a little bit of everything . My favorite was the Mac and Cheese and Birria Brisket Taco. My husband loved the Mexican twinkies , brisket and elote cream corn. The staff was so kind and greeted us as we walked in. Indoor seating is very limited, however there is plenty of outdoor seating in the form of large picnic tables and sets of tables and chairs. It was really neat to see the big smokers outside too. Knowing that the food is truly smoked on wood burning smokers. read more

Just had arrived to Gilbert, AZ and we were starving. Found this place close to relatives and gave it a shot. Wow! So delicious. We tried birria, a carnita taco and brisket taco- all were terrific. They pulled the brisket out and sliced it fresh in front of us. We also got the Mac n cheese and the elote. The Mac n cheese has green chiles (I think) in it and was a great twist. I've been here twice and it's pretty good. The first time I got a chili cheese dog and loved it - the mesquite flavor of the meat was really unique and tasty. The mac and cheese was a little bland. The second time I got a dog with jalapenos and pickles and tried a brisket sandwich. I really liked the brisket sandwich and would definitely get that again.
