Outside seating (the inside is fairly small)

Loved it! Not normally in Gilbert, but since I was this place was high on my list of places to try. The ambiance is reminiscent of old school Texas joints - small inside with plenty of outdoor seating. The menu has plenty of options - straight bbq, tacos, burritos and sides. It says Mexi-Q so I went tacos. Brisket was excellent as was the chili verde. Good size tacos as well. Loved the beans! Definitely try a Mexican Twinkie. Service was great as well. N*joy!

Best Birria Tacos in the valley! Sitting outside under the misters on picnic tables was fun. Mexican Twinkie's on the side is a must We ordered an item wrong and the server noticed and comped us the correct one, perfect lunch out!

Oh my. Random find in passing and came across this jewel. Hard to find tender and tasty meats. The inside is small but has outside dining with a mister to keep you cool. The place is clean and inviting. They greet you and explain the menu. Ordered a pull pork burrito. Spot on. They have their BBq sauces on the table. The flavors are a party in your mouth. So stinking good. This will be a must stop if ever in the area.

I stopped by this spot to try their spin of Mexican bbq. The carnitas taco was really good. I put the Carolina gold bbq sauce on it and it was perfect. I liked that sauce so much that I'd consider going back just to try it on some of their other bbq. I didn't like the brisket birria taco as much because it was way too salty for me. The mac and cheese was also just okay. It had so much sauce that it was too thick and unpleasant to eat. The vibe was good though. They have seating inside and outside. I love that they had the misters running to keep the outdoor seating cool. The staff was also very nice.

Bbq with a twist and soooo delicious! Mac n cheese was fire! Honestly everything we tried was delicious!! When we moved to the area people were Ravi g about this place and now I see why. The quality of the food is top tier and the service was great! Indoor seating is limited but they have plenty outdoor.

OK, we've been big fans of Caldwell's BBQ for years and somehow had never made it over to Caldwell's Mexi-Q... big mistake on our part--especially since it combines two of my all-time favorite things...brisket and tacos! Parking was a breeze, and since there were three of us (including one never-full teenager ), we went for the Mexi-Q Platter and added an extra birria taco so everyone could try one. It absolutely lived up to the hype! The surprise standout? The brisket tostada--sooooo flavorful and satisfying on every level! We also loved the sausage link, Mexi-Q twinkies (aka smoked jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, then wrapped in bacon ), and honestly, everything we tried was a hit. For sides, we ordered Grandma's Calabacitas (a yummy squash veggie mix), roasted cream elote, and Julio's mac n' cheese (which I skipped, but the guys were big fans). We wrapped up this phenomenal meal with their GF banana pudding (they offer both GF and regular options), and it was seriously scrumptious--such a treat to have a gluten-free dessert that feels just as special! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive. They double-checked that everything we ordered (minus the mac n' cheese) was gluten-free, which is always such a relief. It means so much when a place truly understands gluten and can clearly guide you on what's safe. We sat outside and soaked up the beautiful weather--it was the perfect setting for such a fun and tasty meal! An easily awarded and well deserved

2/12/26 Starving during appointment and shopping day. Circled back for a second visit and not a minute too soon. Parking 5/5 Small lot but no problem slipping into a parking spot near the entrance at 4:30 pm. Atmosphere 5/5 Rated based in similar venues, clean but small indoor dining area with high-top seating. We chose outdoor seating because it was a beautiful day. Plenty of seating and only a few families outside. Pleasant experience on the patio today. Service 5/5 Just like our last visit, the kitchen crew are great. Our order taker and restaurant ambassador always does nice job mixing it up with me while taking my order. Kudos! Food 10/5 Not a typo. This is crazy good food. Their Brisket is amazing and consistent and has pushed my former number 1 off their pedestal and has become my new #1. Great job guys! Today we ordered a feast. (1) fatty brisket 1/2 lb with bread. (3) Birria tacos. (6) outlawed bacon wrapped Jalapeños. (1) quart of Elote street corn. Meal for two was so much food we have another meal. Darn it guess I'll take one for the team! $102.96 w/tip. Eat well, eat Mexi-Q my friends- SYOY!

What a surprise and delight! This BBQ is legit and I can't recommend it enough. I would say it's on the pricier side but the quality of meat and the amount of food you get equate to the price you pay so it's completely worth it. We got the Mexi BBQ platter and shared it amongst my husband toddler. It comes with: -1/3 lb Brisket -Pulled Pork -Sausage -2 brisket birrira tacos - 2 mexi Q twinkies - 1 Brisket Toastada (I could eat 5 of these EASY) - 2 sides. This easily feed 4-5 people.

This was incredible! Full disclosure, I actually don't really care for BBQ food and consider it my least favorite cuisine but every once in awhile, I find myself wanting some, which makes my husband very happy! Anyway, because I don't really gravitate towards BBQ food, I loved the idea of going somewhere where I could also get Mexican food and other types of sides, and Caldwell County Mexi-Q was so perfect for both of us and our wants, that I could seriously cry. It was amazing and so delicious and exactly what we both wanted. I loved everything, even the BBQ food! That's how good it was if it won we over. I really loved the birria tacos, the jalapeño cheddar sausage, the brisket (the fat was insane on this and I loved that so much), the pulled pork, the refried beans, the mac and cheese, and the elote corn. There wasn't a bad item among the bunch! I highly recommend getting the Mexi-Q platter because you get to sample a little bit of everything and it's perfect for two people. At $70 for all of this food, I consider that a steal. The customer service was outstanding; everyone was super helpful and kind and friendly. The vibes were good too, because it's small but really feels like your own backyard and comfortable, even outside. I cannot say enough great things about this place and we will be back!

A- MAZING!!!!! So I'm doing my best not to curse, because I want to truly express how much I F-ING LOVE THIS PLACE! While working in the area of course I hot up my Yelp app...... 2 miles up the road I see this place listed, I click...... and I see a couple reviews from a few of my Yelp friends Derrick & Art. Well, after reading Derrick's review, which is EXCELLENT BTW, I was i may give to go here, then saw Art's endorsement & I was sold! Upon arrival, the parking lot is small, instant anxiety that the place is packed! NOPE.. Just a small lot to park, so food a spot & get here NOW! There's a bunch of Coveted outside seating, clean place, inside is cute & inviting. They jam country too... Approached the counter meet Brian F., this dude rocks! Often I will tell the place I'm visiting that I'm a rookie, must say thanks & ask what I want, not Brian F. he is real friendly. Brian F. said let me grab you a sample Brisket too help you decide... I mentioned i was torn between Brisket & Birria, so Brian F. said "get both! ", he recommends the Birria & Briaket for a 1st timer, I replied, LFG! Give me 2 of each, Brian replied "what about a twinkie? Having grown up during the Twinkie heyday, I was confused & not real interested... Brian F pulled out a Twinkie.... A BACON WRAPPED JALAPENO, stuffed with cream cheese & Brisket! ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME!!!!! YES, YES & 5 TIMES YES ON SUNDAYS! The place is delicious, the people are awesome & you would be an A-whole (pc) door not getting here now! I just found a GOTO place when I'm in the area! Thank you Brian F.

The birria brisket tacos were our favorite aside from the delicious banana pudding. My favorite spot in the valley for this yummy dessert. Definitely worth the drive if you're from the west valley.

10/10 Experience We ordered the Barbecue Mex Platter and it was absolutely amazing. The portion was huge -- easily enough to feed me, my wife, and even our two‑year‑old for both lunch and dinner. Our son especially loved the mac & cheese, and me and my wife were blown away by the Mexican spin on classic barbecue. Service was extremely fast, and the environment felt welcoming from the moment we walked in. The owner even came out to talk with us and let us try the jalapeño poppers/Twinkies, which were incredible. Great service, great atmosphere, and even better food. We'll definitely be back!!!

    Scarlett M.

I love Caldwell's bbq, this was my first time trying the Tex mex version. I opted for a burrito, the jalapeño popper, and Mexican corn. I loved that the burrito doesn't have any rice, maximizes the protein. All the food was great. But if I'm being honest I think I prefer the classic bbq food. I'm not a huge Tex mex fan, personally preference. But the quality of this place is top notch. Love the outdoor seating, inside can be squishy.

It was a bit of a rush time and there was only one bartender so service was a bit slow. We did get some chips and salsa as we waited. Good chips, airy and crispy. The salsa was OK. I'm personally just not a fan of roasted salsa. Their beer was crisp and thoroughly cold which was refreshing. I tried the amor de mango and it was tasty. I can't remember my first drink either. It was a Paloma or a margarita, but i didn't enjoy as much, which is why I changed my next drink. The chimi trio was very tasty and full of flavor, one bean one chicken one beef, all good. Then we got the carnitas cheese crisp which was interesting and had good flavor. I would order both again. Service was pretty good. Like I said, the bartender was busy working by himself and when one of his coworkers noticed, we didn't have any more water then she would come by and help so that was appreciated. It s good date spot, or catching up with a friend or just grabbing a bite to eat and drink for yourself. I look forward to coming back and trying entrees. My only hope is that during the hot bright times they lower the shades and get more shades. A Birthday Dinner Done Right at Origen in Gilbert!…read more I made reservations to celebrate my wife's birthday at Origen in Gilbert, and from the moment we walked through the door, it felt like we had picked the right place. First, the decor and atmosphere are absolutely beautiful. Origen has that perfect balance of upscale elegance and warmth. The wood, lighting, textures, and Mexican-inspired design create an atmosphere that feels sophisticated without feeling stuffy. There is clearly a lot of attention to detail throughout the restaurant, and it makes the entire experience feel special. Add in the live saxophone music and energy of the room, and it feels like you're going somewhere for an experience--not simply going out to eat. Then came the food. Origen does a fantastic job combining modern Mexican flavors with a steakhouse experience. The menu has plenty of choices, but everything feels intentional and elevated. The flavors were bold without being overwhelming, and the presentation made each course feel like part of the experience. From the appetizers to the entrees, we were impressed with the quality and attention to detail. And if you're a cocktail person, don't skip the cocktails. The drink menu is creative, and the cocktails aren't simply colorful drinks designed to look good--they actually have flavor and character. The mezcal-based options especially fit the restaurant's Mexican-inspired concept beautifully. It's the kind of cocktail program that makes you want to try something different instead of ordering your usual drink. But honestly, what made our night was the service. Our waitress, Ash, was phenomenal. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and--most importantly--knowledgeable about the menu. She didn't just read descriptions to us; she took the time to explain the dishes, answer our questions, and make recommendations based on what we were interested in trying. That made ordering much easier, especially with a menu that has so many interesting choices. But what really stood out was how much care Ash took to make sure my wife had a great birthday experience. She paid attention to the little things. She made my wife feel celebrated without making the evening feel forced or overdone. There was a genuine warmth to the way she interacted with us, and you could tell she understood that this wasn't just another dinner--it was an important occasion for us. That matters. Anyone can bring food to a table. Great hospitality is about making people feel seen, welcomed, and taken care of. Ash absolutely did that for us. My wife had a wonderful birthday, and as her husband, that's really what I wanted most from the evening. Origen gave us the beautiful setting, great food, creative cocktails, and atmosphere. Ash put the personal touch on the experience that made the night memorable. If you're looking for a place in Gilbert for a birthday, anniversary, date night, or just a night when you want to dress up and have a really good dinner, I'd definitely put Origen on the list. And if you're lucky enough to have Ash as your server, you're in good hands. Five stars from us. We'll definitely be back.

I ordered the smoked chicken enchilada as I saw it was a Yelp favorite and it was delicious. I ended up taking half of it home since we all filled up on chips and salsa before our meal. This restaurant is decorated so cutely. I love how there is a Baja influence with all the surf boards but also southwest appeal. There is plenty of seating and tables for big groups. Even with other people yapping around us, the noise level was perfect to enjoy company. 10/10 would recommend.

There were heaters available if we needed them, as we sat outside. Our amazing and friendly server offered to turn the heaters on for us, but we didn't need them. I enjoyed a Oaxacan Old Fashioned (on the sweeter side, but that's what I like), we had the Elote (BEST I'VE EVER HAD), and I also had the Carne A La Tampiquena. Everything tasted amazing and was served fresh and in a timely manner. We will most certainly be back (and you should visit, too!)!

But the wife and I were in the mood for Mexican... so in we came. The kids are a little older so were content with doing the dreaded iPad surfing. There are no games like cornhole or anything for them to "play" with. All good. Kid menu was standard fare. I got the Blue Corn Stacked Enchiladas with chicken. So damn good. I literally overate like it was Thanksgiving. Wife is a vegetarian and the menu was a bit slim for her, especially since salad was off-limits due to Cyclospora outbreak - not taking any chances. Got a flight of frozen margaritas - Cucumber, Mango, Blueberry, and Blood Orange. All of them terrific. I would love to come back.

Server apologizes and takes it away... A seemingly long time of picking at our beans passes and finally another sizzling platter arrives. Yay... We can eat now. It's beef and shrimp. Oof. Server apologizes again. Wife orders a medium sized margarita on the rocks. 10-12 mins pass... And finally we get the correct fajitas. (With a brand new setup plate too. Yay) We get the bill... The dang margarita costs the same as the fajitas! $20 for a margarita is too much. If the price was disclosed when we ordered we would have skipped it. Not a good value. Our bill was $45 for one order of fajitas and one margarita. (I drink water) LOL: Table next to us is a dude clearly on a tinder date. She's got three empty $20 margarita glasses. He has one. Hope he scored. Bet his bill was $150!

Always great experience with a fun, modern ranch vibe! We got there just after happy hour…read more(unfortunately), but our server, Torrance, made the meal memorable. He was incredibly kind and attentive, especially with my friend who is deaf, making sure we always had water, napkins, and plenty of chips. The margarita flight is always a must for me, so I had to order one for my friend since it was her first visit. I told her that even though neither of us are into spicy margaritas, I knew she'd love it and I was right! Every margarita was delicious. I also ordered the lavender lemonade, which was refreshing and just as good. Ghost Ranch never seems to miss when it comes to drinks. Potato tacos! Another must have My friend ordered the Aztec Cake and insisted I'd regret not getting it. She was absolutely right. It was bomb and Torrance offered us a side of chips .TY. I ordered the short rib. It was flavorful, tender, and filling, with lots of garlic and savory flavor. I'm not sure if short rib is just not my thing, but it didn't wow me the way the Aztec Cake did. I warmed it up later and it was delicious a second time so no complaints. Excellent service, delicious drinks, and a fun way to spend the Fourth. We'll definitely be back!

Been waiting to check this place out for Happy Hour and finally got around to it with friends. Happy Hour is daily with $3 off all appetizers (not just selected as the menu says) in addition to drink specials. We ordered a few apps to share and had: - Chips with Guacamole and Salsa: solid - Queso Fundido: I was excited for this as friends have said they liked it, but the cheese harden within minutes and it wasn't as nice - Street Style Esquites: I was expecting more corn rather than mixed in another cheese dip and likewise, the cheese harden quickly. - Shrimp cocktail: it was pretty heavy on the liquid rather than thicken, but good - 3 potato tacos: okay, wasn't expected it to be fried so it was a bit greasy but loved the slaw it came with - Southwest egg roll: not bad, was a crowd's favorite and I liked the sauce it came with We didn't realize most of the apps came with tortilla chips otherwise we may have ordered differently. I got the frozen margarita and it was a bit sweet, but nice for the summer evening. Our server wasn't super attentive, but was nice whenever they came around. There's a sampler entree platter I'd like to try, but of all the appetizers we tried, the best was probably the chips with guacamole and salsa.
