Went there last night and 4 of us had dinner, I'd give it a C letter grade and think it could improve. Pros: service was great; clean; reasonably priced; good music playing; most of the food seemed fresh* (more on that in cons) Cons: seating in the booths is a tad uncomfortable (short cushion length & felt pitched towards the table): no beer list - server had to tell us 3x so we could hear & make a decision; mostly though, all the dishes under-seasoned/bland(surf & turf tacos, pretzel dipping sauce, steak), ribs tasted like they were cooked a week ago and reheated with a pile of sauce slathered on, and the pesto was so lemony it was borderline inedible. The front of house staff there definitely seems like they care and the place has potential, but the kitchen needs some improvement - my steak was cooked perfectly but 'bled out' as it hadn't rested long enough before being brought out and could've used a generous salt and peppering before hitting the grill. With the exception of the ribs, everything seemed very fresh- please bring out the potential in what you're working with! read more

We had an amazing meal during restaurant week! The three courses plus a drink was a great deal. The steak, cod, tacos, brussels sprouts, beet salad and desserts were well cooked and very flavorful! This place is wonderful. The food is great, the servers are knowledgeable and friendly, and the overall vibe is warm and inviting. We had the pretzels to start, and got a second order, they were that good. The steak and frites were perfect, and three out of four of us ordered this particular entree. Perfectly cooked. We are locals, and we love the Broadway area for dining. The waterfront gets crazy in the summer time, so this new addition to broadway is just a gem. You will love it!!! read more

Really want this place to do well! They have a limited menu but some interesting offerings. We went twice during our yearly vacation in Newport. The waffles with chicken, skin crisps and grand marnier syrup went down very easily my first time. Tried it again before we left and there was some consistency issues. Walked in during a blizzard around 1030 11sh and they reopened their kitchen so we could have some dinner after driving 6 hours... We both got the burger and it was DELICIOUS! My husband and I ate here tonight and were not disappointed! I had the steak with the bacon brussels sprout and it was amazing. My husband had the half chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. It was also delicious. Our friends had the soft pretzels that they enjoyed very much. Our other group of friends had the surf and turf taco and the burger. All agreed the food was excellent. I had half of the cinnamon waffle with maple pecan ice cream for dessert and my friend had the cast iron cookie. The desserts were very good and sweet! Can't wait to eat here again! read more

Not a bad brunch/lunch spot. The cod tacos were unreal. Definitely over seasoned the hash browns but aside from that this place delivered. Just enjoyed this great place at the suggestion of a few customers. I was greeted very friendly upon arrival by Ryan the bartender. The menu looked fantastic unfortunately I'm on a diet but there salad menu looked awesome as well. I choose the pulled chicken squash, spinach, and butternut squash salad. Truly one of the best combinations I have ever enjoyed. From Los Angeles to NYC this creative bar rivals anything I have come upon. Underwhelming! It's a hipster menu that doesn't deliver. I wanted to like it but it was low caliber. I got a sushi burrito. First bite and I was so disappointed. Something was weird about the flavor. It was just "off". I asked for some balsamic thinking it would help. It did. Kinda. I just couldn't get past the fact that the rice tasted like horchata. Rice pudding and tuna! Not two things that should go together. Add insult to injury with the sad salad that had zero flavor. I'm not sure what the sauce was but it wasn't emulsified correctly to be called a dressing. Just orange and chunky. I'm guessing that was supposed to be the honey siracha sauce. That sauce was definitely not in the burrito. I told the server. She came back and told me it was the honey siracha. I beg to differ. The cook must have been off because it was terrible. I can't believe I paid $12 for that garbage. I would have appreciated an offer of half off the meal. It's a touristy town so I'm sure they don't care. My husband's dinner also sucked. He had a bean meatball pita thing. Thee was barely a trace of the Brussels sprout slaw and the taziki sauce was not tangy. Very bland and weird texture. Also, we had to ask for a glass with our extra fancy 9% bottled beer. Maybe the foil at the rim of the label was supposed to be a part of the experience? In short, all fill, no kill. read more

I've been to Caleb & Broad a bunch of times since it opened, and I am NEVER disappointed in the dining experience. My family was in town this weekend and we chose to celebrate my birthday with the amazing skillet-baked cookie topped with bacon and ice cream. My dad had been to C&B once before with me, but it was a first for the rest of the family-and everyone left happy. Our server, Tyler, was kind and attentive, and even took the time to entertain my 3 year old sister! Casual relaxed atmosphere on the doorstep to downtown Newport. Easy local parking. Very clean and tastefully decorated. Menu is varied, food is great, and reasonably priced. The curved booths make dining as a couple or with friends easy and somewhat private for conversation. I had the burger which was perfect, topped with bacon, cheese, and onions. Oh, add in some awesome calamari or butternut squash soup. My wife had the roasted cod over a bed of spinach, very tasty.
