We were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast food. Everything was delicious, especially the bacon, fresh fruit, and quiche. We did get there when they first opened and it took awhile before the waiter came to get the beverages and take our order. That was our only gripe. Food was great. Service, horrible and even hostile. Short story hostess was downright rude and the waitress actually verbally abusive. Long story. It was a busy Sunday morning and our party of two was informed that because we didn't have a reservation, we would have a half hour wait. I told the hostess this was our first time there and I didn't know that a reservation was preferred. I asked why such a long wait when there were so many empty tables. She said she had 335 reservations so those took priority. She then said unless you want to sit at the counter or outside. I said no thank you and we chose to wait the 30 minutes. We get the text that our table was ready. Same not so nice hostess takes us to a table outside. I asked if we could sit inside and she said no, that was an additional hour wait. I said fine, we'll sit outside. So we sit and we get swarmed by one bee, then another. And then another. I again ask the hostess if she could move us inside on account of the bees. She said no. So having been stung by bees recently, I'm a little nervous because it's incredibly painful. When the waitress finally comes to take our order, I asked her if these bees had been circling all morning and she confirmed that they had. I asked if anyone had been stung. See said no-that no one had been stung and everyone had eaten their meal and been very happy. So, I said, okay, we'll take our chances, and we placed our order. Fast forward a few minutes. Another couple gets seated at the table next to us. The female patron starts swatting at the bees with her menu. I said to my partner, "see it's not just us". Then a pair or young ladies gets seated at another table two down from us. The bees make a beeline for them. One girl is very nervous and jumps out of her seat. Then the bee gets into the other girl's hair and she jumps up. Bees leave for a minute, and the girls start to look over the menu. I said to them, it's not just you guy-we got the bee treatment and so did the table next to us. Waitress overhears me and then starts here verbal attack. She's not even at my table, she was at the table with the two girls and turns to me and starts giving me a verbal lecture about bees and that there was nothing they could do, and you are sitting outside after all, and we can't stray because there is food and on and one she went and yada, yada, yada. I said, I don't need a lecture from you today. She still goes on and on. I didn't engage, but I didn't back down either. She said you know you are free to leave, and I said no thank you I waited a half hour to be seated so I think I'll stay. At this point the two girls get up to leave and tell the waitress she was out of line and very rude. I apologized to the girls, they weren't upset with me, but with the waitress. The couple next to us also got an apology from me, but they also said it wasn't me it was the waitress. The gentleman even said that the customer is always right and that I had done nothing to apologize for. Morale of my long story, don't eat here unless you don't mind getting verbal abuse from the waitress and looked down on by the hostess because you didn't have a reservation. Won't be going back, no matter how good the food might have been. read more

Oh. My. God. TINY portion and RANCID! My husband met a bunch of friends for lunch, and at the end ordered a salad to take home for me. He paid an extra $6.00 to replace the chicken in the salad with salmon. He asked them to wrap the salmon separately so it wouldn't wilt the salad on the way home. (He said the waitress gave him an attitude, but whatever). When I opened the salad to eat, the salmon portion consisted of two 2 inch by 1 inch, pieces of salmon. That's it! for an extra 6 bucks! Then I took one bite, and the fish had GONE BAD! DISGUSTING! And what a RIPOFF! I wish I could give negative stars. This is totally unacceptable. read more

I went with two of my friends and their families, and I chose Caleb's because they take reservations for Sunday brunch and the great reviews. It's a small place with a small parking lot in the front and another in the back. We made a reservation for a party of 9 at 9:15AM, and were seated promptly. I ordered the All-American, and upgraded my pancakes to blueberry for an additional dollar, and everything was good! The real winner was the home fries that I got as a to-go side after trying one of my friend's, they tasted like fresh-cut potatoes and were so crispy. read more

The 1st time we came it was pre-pandemic. We had no idea it was BYOB so we didn't have any wine but the staff was amazing. Fast forward to 2021 and we knew we had to make reservations. The staff was as friendly as we remembered. Wish we had taken a picture of our entrees but we were too hungry. We started with the butternut squash soup. It was spicy and perfect. For dinner my husband had the fillet medallions, I had the crab cakes, our little one had chicken tenders with fries, and our oldest had the braised short rib grilled cheese appetizer as her entree. All delicious. Desserts did not disappoint either. The blondie was our fav but the apple crisp was delicious as well. Thank you Mr. Jack for being so kind to our family. First time here and stopped in for lunch during a visit to Peddler's Village based on a recommendation from one of the stores we visited. it was Sunday so they had their brunch menu available. I went with the NOLA BANANAS FOSTER FRENCH TOAST while my wife went with the SANTA CRUZ FISH TACOS. I thoroughly enjoyed my French Toast while my wife thoroughly enjoyed her fish tacos. Presentation of food was nice and taste was excellent and fresh! Service was also excellent throughout the meal. For dessert, we split the TANNER BROTHERS ICE CREAM, which also seemed homemade and very fresh. The place doesn't have a whole lot of seating, so reservations are highly recommended. We can't wait to go back and try some other things on their menu! read more

I've heard great things about this place from my friends but for some reason I had never been. So I came in a couple weeks ago for Sunday brunch with my husband... it was Delish! We split the bacon, corn and scallion pancakes are they were amazing. Our server, Stella, kept my iced tea full the entire time. He also had the french toast and it was so good. An update is overdue for Caleb's. Rereading my initial newbie Yelper post, I still agree with it, and am finally able to say that for BYOB in this area, 5 stars all the way. I've kept up with other nearby places but keep coming back here. They seem to offer better quality ingredients, better prices and portions, and perfect customer service. I encountered one bad dish a few years back( soft shell crabs that were prepared in a way that left them chewy) the waitress agreed they didn't look right and I was offered a replacement or substitute. I selected pork loin that was incredible. Caleb even came out to tell me that the sous chef had not prepared the crab correctly, by then I was just happy that I got to try the amazing pork. I brought a date here last night and was surprised that along with the normal dinner menu, we could order from the locals night menu as well( up to 6pm). This is an incredible deal, 3 courses for $28. It used to be offered only on Monday's, and I've taken advantage of it a few times, but on a Friday or Saturday night, that's really cool. My lovely dining companion ordered the tuna and I had to try the mahi tacos. The starting apps were very good, she had the soup of the day. This was a chilled summer squash soup that sounded weird but was delicious. I asked about taking a quart home but was politely declined. I had the harvest salad which was pristine, perfectly grilled eggplant, heirloom tomato, crisp greens and a shishito dressing that I plan on trying to recreate at home. I knew the tuna would be great, I've had co diners order this before. But my tacos were amazing; even by my standards. Thin house made tortillas that were stuffed with crispy fish, just a little slaw on the bottom and ripe pico to top off with a lite sauce. These were best ever fish tacos! For dessert my date had the strawberry mousse and I had the ice cream cookie sandwich( which I've had before and enjoyed) great endings to a great meal. Our server Jack was cordial and fun, and made us feel very welcomed. But service has always been very good. This is likely due to Caleb showing his C/S skills by greeting guests and coming around after meals to see how everything was. I would advise readers who have never tried this neighborhood gem to come for the locals menu while it's still being offered everyday. I can personally attest to the turkey platter on it, and in colder weather that would be my next pick. But those tacos are still calling to me too..... read more

This review I can write with my hands tied behind my back; a sterling 5 star. Caleb's American Kitchen has all the makings of a great experience dining out. Parking out front and behind, clean/contemporary decor, two dining rooms, lower with great views out the lovely windows, cheerful smiling servers [special call out to Ashley who took fabulous care of us], a wide selection of dish options, they don't say NO, and at a fair market value. Perfect for date night, for bringing your family or a night out with friends. Casual but up to you if you want to spiff it up on a Saturday night. After a lovely conversation with Ashley about the restaurant, Tuesday night burger night, and her favs (secret- all of the menu items) we were ready to place our dinner order. A tough choice being out first time as there were so many wonderful options to select from. I started with the sliced beet salad- red and yellow beets, smoked blue cheese (which I swapped out for the spiced goat cheese from the goat cheese & arugula salad), pickled red onions, candied walnuts, honey mustard vinaigrette, balsamic glaze --- FABULOUS. What a wonderful array of flavors. So fresh and vibrant colors. My honey loved the crab mini tacos (3 in a serving) - all real lump crab salad, avocado puree, (no fillers) in a hard taco shell (I tried one too), WOW!!!! For our entrees, my honey enjoyed the CAK signature burger (substituting with turkey meat) served with gruyere cheese, roasted red onion, rosemary aioli, on a brioche bun (she passed on bun having loved the pre-meal warm bread). I had been more adventuresome ordering the grilled salmon which rocked; cooked to my perfection - slightly pink inside. The salmon is grilled, orange-maple glazed, kale saute with almond and bacon, coconut sticky rice, rutabaga curls (the curls I pushed aside, felt it didn't do anything to improve the meal as I try to avoid fried when I can. No loss to the dish as it was EXCELLENT. All the ingredients really complimented the salmon. We ran out of room and opted to transport the pumpkin cheesecake home for coffee with the dogs which I'm enjoying as I write this. This dessert is killer awesome. Wow, you can taste the seasonal spices and the ricotta cheese is the perfect complement as was the topping. A must try. We will be back as there were so many other items to try. We were one of the first people that arrived so it was very quiet. We noticed a strange smell that reminded me of a nursing home. Thank god as the place filled up the smell went away. We were greeted right away by the friendly staff. Our server was very friendly and stayed on top of everything. Our four courses came out promptly with just the right amount of time between each course. I only have two complaints but they are very important to me. 1-The food was not hot or even warm. 2-My husbands $68 meal had three very small thin pieces of beef filet roast that were also not even warm. He ordered the sliced beef filet roast. The plate should have had more protein for the price we paid. Other than those two things, we were happy and would like to try it again. read more

We arrived at 5 when it opened , we had a reservation and she tried to seat us next to the entrance . we asked for another table and were given a good dose of attitude and were told if we sat at another table we had to be done eating in one hour. WTF?... Also her stand was in the middle of the front of the restaurant , really bad placement , which more or less makes it a runway into the seating area making it rough for those sitting at the tables. Caleb's holds a special place in my heart. This is my Mom and I's go to breakfast spot after a trip to Rice's flea market. The space is super modern and clean. Our waiter was extremely professional and poised. We enjoyed a frittata with peppers and spinach, an avocado BLT, and a crab cake sandwich. The food was delectable all around! Didn't arrive to this restaurant until 12:30 and waited 15 minutes for a table. But it wasn't until we looked at the menu that we realized that they only serve breakfast until noon, so we decided to leave. First off, we are from out of town and used Waze too get here, went too pull in and a sign says parking on 263! We didn't know where or what 263 is, so I got out and asked a patron. Then we had too back out onto very busy road. They need visible signage with just Caleb's parking with an arrow. Not a sign that you have too pull in too see. No time to read all the signs. Now, our breakfast. French-toast was very good. I had the special, the Manoff Market Gardens, grilled peaches on walnut raisin bread, Brie, Smoked ham, arugula, topped with fried egg. When we asked to be moved to another table out of the sun (there were 3 other vacant tables out of the sun in the area) we were refused by the hostess with a snarky attitude. 9/18/24 had a fun time at the tasting dinner with Federal Twist (FT) Vineyard wine. Ian spoke about the history behind this family vineyard located in Stockton, NJ, and John provided insight on wine and wine making, how the quality and flavor of local wines have improved over the years as vine varieties and winemaker skills have evolved. Enjoyed the talk. Food pairings: salad/FT Vidal Blanc, mushroom app/FT Dry Rose, pork shanks/Fed Red (Chambourcin), seabass/FT Vidal Blanc, mushroom ragu/BFK (Blaufrankisch), and FT Hey-Bett Field White was paired with red wine cake due to its hint of sweetness. While shopping in Peddler's Village with some friends, we stopped here for lunch. The Apple Festival was going on so everything was crazy busy but we got seated within about 15 minutes. Just so everyone is aware of my experience. I've never before this posted anything negative. Make your own decisions, maybe our experience was an aberration. We booked a reservation, two adults and our toddler son, who is a really sweet and well behaved kid. Were really looking forward, as part of a nice relaxing family trip of a couple of days. Our son is also a picky eater unfortunately so my wife called the restaurant ahead of time and very nicely asked about whether they have a few different menu items we know our son likes (pizza, pasta, etc.). She said the man she spoke with was actually really nice and seemed like the owner potentially. He said they don't have those things on the menu, but that it's totally fine if we wanted to bring some food in just for our son, that's no problem and he would even make a note on our booking about it. We thought that was nice and did so. We ordered our meals from the waiter, who was not friendly at all but no problem there, whatever. We then explained how someone had said we could bring food and asked if it's an issue for them to heat it up. He kind of stared at us blankly but did not say it's an issue, took the food containers from us and walked away. About two minutes later, the man who had shown us our table stomped to our table, crouched down a couple of feet away from my (pregnant, very nice and mild mannered) wife and just started berated both of us. That he'd never been asked in 8 years to heat up food for a child, and scathing with sarcasm and anger like did we want him to sauté the Mac and cheese, and just asking us angrily over and over what we expected him to do. (We were thinking like 30 seconds in the microwave btw!) We tried to explain nicely that someone from the restaurant had said it would be fine so there must be a misunderstanding and that we could talk it out but please stop speaking to us so rudely and like we're awful people. He wouldn't relent at all and was basically saying anything he could to make us feel like pure trash. We decided to leave. I left $15 on the table for a few sips of seltzer and Diet Coke and we gathered our stuff and left. I have a feeling he may have verified with his owner or someone else that we had been told it was okay because he came back out and threw himself on the floor in front of us and said he would give us a free meal. I told him we felt so embarrassed and unwelcome and it was clear we weren't wanted. He then followed us towards the door and in front of several other tables again threw himself on to the floor on his knees and screamed, I'M ON MY KNEES! I'M BEGGING YOU TO LET ME FEED YOU!!!!" but in an extremely bizarre and honestly kind of intimidating and unsettling way, not at all sincerely contrite and seemingly wanting to just embarrass us further and make a huge scene. Which is surprising because I don't think that must have made other guests feel comfortable either. We just hurried out, with my toddler son really upset and naturally all of us pretty bummed and upset. We drove to another restaurant in town and had a really nice meal with friendly people helping us. My wife and I go out of our way to treat all people with kindness, decency and respect. I really didn't appreciate being treated so awfully, especially given that if we'd been invited to do exactly what we did, in bringing food for our son. If that info was incorrect or there was a misunderstanding, just come talk it out with us nicely. I really don't appreciate going for a nice meal as a guest and being yelled at and degraded. Just not cool. So yeah - perhaps the food is very good and if we didn't have our toddler with us, maybe we'd be happy guests and another 4 or 5 star review. To each their own. But I do think treating people that way is very wrong. Hope that guy learns a teeny bit more patience, understanding and kindness. read more

We ordered food, huevos rancheros that the menu noted with refried beans and cilantro pesto but that was not what we received. We received regular beans and arugula on non soggy tortillas. This is my favorite restaurant in Lahaska. The food is great here. I've been here for both breakfast and dinner many times and the place never disappoints. The service is great too.
