We recently celebrated a milestone anniversary outdoors on our deck with a carryout feast from Caliente Grill and could not have been more pleased. The owner, Roxana Rodriguez, is deightful and caring and made sure that we were well taken care of. The food is outstanding. With a great fondness for Peruvian food and culture, we wanted to try some of the newer menu items. Wow! The Peruvian Ceviche and Causa Limena were out of this world as was the Pescado a lo Macho. And the Salvadoran pupusas and plantains were also delcious. We love this place! As a baseball coach that conducts camps and clinics to the Annapolis area youth it's a breath of fresh air to get a 5 Star Salvador style menu that satisfies the appetite of both this old coach and the players that dine with me. I feed my camp counselors the awesome grilled chicken burritos and fajitas. The pupusa and the plantains are also a hit!!! You gotta get the Mar y Tierra which is "surf & turf" and Zi loved it with my Modela Negra and Valentina Sauce. The Cerviche was an awesome appetizer too! I had heard for a while this place was the best Mexican food around. Totally agree! Food was amazing and was authentic. Nothing was frozen /heated. It was fresh and delicious. Only 2 fat, small doughy tortillas which of course were not enough and broke when gently folded with aforementioned dried out steak. Guacamole. Very tasty . For $11.00 probably one avocado held with big lettuce wedge in pint container. Steak burrito. Tasteless and over cooked meat, again. Not to mention $15.00 margaritas. Who charges $15.00. This place is simply amazing. A staple of the a restaurants on Bay Ridge road. They recently engulfed the establishment next to them to continue their domination of that section of the strip mall. I come here pretty regularly mostly to eat various things on the special Salvadoran menu as well as have a margarita. The restaurant manager is also a pretty cool guy. I've talked to him on many occasions and he spins a mean Top. If you get the chance you should ask him about spinning top. 5 stars for everything on the menu being great as well as having USB outlets along the bar so you can charge your phone while you drink. read more

Terrible! Do yourself a favor and do NOT go! At first we felt a little uncomfortable because we were the only Caucasians there but we wanted to give it a chance and the bartender was friendly. The longer we were there the more nasty things they said about my friend and I in Spanish. However looks can be deceiving...yo hablo español!!! The women's bathroom was closed off for unknown reasons and the men's was available but it smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. I needed toilet paper and had to fish under the sink for it. Each roll was filthy. Something spilled or leaked on it and had dried again. After about 4 rolls I found an acceptable one. Upon returning from the bathroom I saw the bartender picking a dirty ice cube out of the drink he was making and continued to serve. After hearing what the staff said about us and seeing the dirty conditions we decided to not order food. In total we ordered 6 vodka sodas (there were two of us) during happy hour. The bill was $61.77. I asked the bartender if that was correct. He told me he doesn't normally bartend and he rung it in to the best of his ability...I wonder if he is TIPS certified because you have to be in order to bartend in the state of MD. I told him I felt that was highway robbery for single mixed drinks especially during happy hour. I asked the total included the advertised $2 off mixed drinks price that on the napkin containers sitting on the bar. He picked up the container and said "oh this? This is off mixed drinks. You are drinking liquor." Ummm...???? I felt that we were taken advantage of because we're not their regular crowd. A customer followed me out and offered me the owners phone number because apparently she is a friend of his. He also agreed that we were probably taken advantage of. DELICIOUS food - fresh, tasty, well-made, and authentic (I felt that I was back in Latin America) I swear it was like I was eating the tacos and pupusas my friends' mom made! Like others, we had high hopes for this place and like to support local businesses rather than chain restaurants. The waitresses were very pleasant but clueless and their English no esta bien. There was lots of confusion about our order, the tortillas were corn not flour, the food was ok. There seemed to be a lot of socializing going on at the bar among the staff. The real deal; and 5* is rare for me. For a while there was only one place to go for authentic Latin food--Sin Fronteras. And now there are two! Fresh ingredients, special orders are ok, great staff, convenient location, full bar, fair pricing....not sure you can ask for too much more. Their chips and salsa are great. You can tell the salsa is home made daily as it always has a slightly different flavor--it is a smoky salsa..not overly tomatoey or spicy. I am a creature of habit and have a penchant for spice. I get the bistec encebollado, but I ask for them to prepare it with the habanero sauce used on another dish. This is a decent portion of flank steak, smothered in green and red peppers, onions and the habanero sauce/gravy and WOW. It is accompanied by a small basic salad and some rice. The food isn't bad, fairly typical Salvadoreano / Tex-Mex fare. Tacos, pupusas, and larger specialty plates are all tasty. BUT, the management/service is just spotty. Don't order online, they don't seem to look at those orders. I've had to wait for them to make the food after I've arrived more than once. Without an apology or any comps. Also experienced a several hour group dining experience (pre-COVID) that food came out sporadically and not at all. Went here with my family the other night to check this place out. Service, food, and atmosphere all great. We tried taquitos, tacos, pupusas, quesadilla, tamale and of course, margaritas. All was excellent. I especially liked the taquitos and tacos (street tacos, not the Taco Bell style). Service was great and the owner is very attentive. The chicken fajitas were pretty good, the shredded chicken in the tacos were not flavorful like the chicken for fajitas and the flautas barely had any meat but the main reason for the low score was the waitress we ended up with. We sat down, weren't offered any salsa, plus the waitress seemed to have an attitude when taking our order. I was ready to just leave but wanted to stay and see if things would get better. The table had no napkins and then the waitress seemed like it was an inconvenience to bring the check. The energy from the staff here was terrible toward us but we watched them treat other customers (Spanish speaking) so nicely, I definitely will never be back there. read more

This is our first trip to Caliente Grill. The spicy margaritas were the best we've had; they were actually spicy. The food was fantastic. Their home made beans aren't like your typical refríed beans, they are even better!!! I'm not a rice eater, but I ate it here. The street tacos were great! The food was good overall. Plenty of seating and good atmosphere. I asked for an unsweetened tea and what I got was not tea. It was strange tasting. Asked them to get another and same strange taste. The shrimp had tails on still, the corn tortillas were not what I was used to but were good as long they stayed together. The sauce for the fajitas was fantastic! Ordered a chicken quesadilla for lunch w/ rice & beans. Overall, the quesadilla was delicious and big enough for me to share. The rice and beans were homemade, which made the dish even better.
