I have mixed feelings about my families experience tonight . Yes, parking is a problem( think we walked through two parking lots) , but once inside seating is plentiful. It was our first time and we needed to share that with the staff before a employee shared how the almost Chipotle food assembly line worked. By the way,..their menu is more complex than many burrito type establishments( which is great) , but it makes the ordering process a bit delayed too. I ordered the tortilla soup which looked so healthy and yummy. However, I was disappointed with the flavor of the broth...it just seemed lacking in flavor. My husband got a enchilada and taco combo. His plate was much more flavorful than mine. My son ordered a taco kids meal . It was a large portion and he enjoyed it. However, I tasted his rice and found it hard and under cooked. Also, I usually don't allow sodas for our kids, but decided to order them "kids" sodas tonight. However , the tiny kids soda cost more than half their kids meal. My husband and I decided to try their Rita's. And I am a big Rita fan. But theirs just can't compete with other yummy Rita's in Houston. It's their grand opening, and I know they have quarks to work out . I honestly rarely take the time to review restaurants, just wanted to give some feedback so this new spot can hear from their local customers. Hoping they make it, because I can see how this spot can be a hit if they work out the negatives. read more

At 10:45am on Saturday, my wife and I entered into an empty restaurant with only the cook and waitress present. We attempted to order queso and were told we would have to wait 15 minutes to order it at 11am. What Mexican restaurant doesn't have queso available during all business hours?! Then the waitress proceeded to rudely tell us we would also have to wait 15 minutes to even put an order in for lunch. The food was tex-mex-good, but service was awkward. I get the feeling they are still working out the links in their operation. They aren't sure whether they want to be self-serve or diner style. The staff seemed just as confused about how they should operate. The food took a little longer than I expected (about 10 minutes) for fast-serve, but I got out the door feeling super full for under $8. I did spot a man with some nachos that looked REAL good! The TexMex is ever so tasty with just the right amount of heat. The chicken enchiladas had moist chunks of chicken and the avocado cream sauce was perfect. I have been here now for the third and last time. I came in last Friday night and I should have just walked out but being optimistic and just happy to be out with the hubby. Firstly there was only one waitress and what seem like a young girl trying to help out the best she could by putting salsa and chips down and drink orders. The restaurant was busy with a mixed crowd of grandparents taking their grandkids, couples, families, and high schoolers all waiting to be served. The tables that were empty still had dishes on them. The restaurant just felt dirty. Which really did not help things at all. The only reason why I did not give one star is that the moment the waitress came to our table I literally couldn't say my order fast enough, because who knew when she would be back? Luckily I did do this but the people who were seated before me and still did not get their order in, were giving us the most evil eyes ever! I couldn't help but hear regular customers keep on feeling sorry for the server and getting up to refill their own drinks and apologizing to her after waiting at least a hour for their microwaved food! There is just way too many Tex Mex restaurants out there to be serving your own drinks!!! Skip this one folks!!! Not worth it at all! By the way the grandparents who took out their grandkids got their orders wrong even when she wrote down what they wanted. The grandmother literally lost her $&!!&& and ended up waiting her car in the parking lot for the rest of her family to finish their meals. It was pretty bad night out! read more

We've ordered pick up a few times during covid and the order is always hot and fresh. They have some variety too as well as some spicier dishes, although my husband said it's not spicy enough, but he gets highest heat places so we will call it mild. Wow! Where do I start? It was such a great dining experience from service to food. Not only the owner came out to answer my questions, he also offered me a sample of their wine based margarita. Our server was very attentive and brought me a sample of all sauces without me even asking. Beef and chicken quesadilla was delicioso!! And both beef and chicken fajitas were very flavorful. What made my night was the side of black beans. I wish I know how the beans were seasoned I was totally addicted to the beans. I ate mine and had to steal some from my date as well. Went here on a last-minute decision after shopping on a Saturday. Rule #1: Never trust a reviewer who only bases their review on the Tex-Mex empire that is Chipotle. Eat here if you like Chipotle. Do not eat here if you like Mexican, or New Mexican, food. Service was good. Chips and salsa were good, except the salsa was incredibly thin, and with an almost oily texture. Enchiladas were not enchiladas. An enchilada is served on a corn tortilla. That is what an enchilada is. These were on flour tortillas, wrapped in circles. That is not an enchilada. That is a burrito. Google it. I made the mistake of ordering it with "roasted New Mexico green sauce," which I took to mean what New Mexicans call "green chile," which I love and which is hard to find outside of New Mexico and Colorado. It was nothing resembling the sort, except possibly containing some canned green chiles, with a lot of lime juice. That's not how "New Mexican green sauce" is made. I'm not sure if there is anywhere in Texas that has good New Mexican food, what USA Today named "America's best iconic food," but this was not it. They serve three kinds of beans: black, refried, and frijoles - "beans" in Spanish, and yes, that makes no sense. They were charro beans, and were OK. The rice on the side was bland lime rice like the kind you find in a Chipotle and not in a Mexican, New Mexican, or Tex-Mex restaurant. Considering this place has 4.5 stars on Yelp, and it was my second drive out after my last was spoiled because the place was closed for a "private party," I was sorely disappointed. Also, parking is crap. There have to be 500 better Mexican restaurants in Houston... just probably not New Mexican. read more

The environment is very calm. (Sunday 6pm) there's Mexican music playing, and there's good customer service. But on the down side, they dont check up on you. Stopped in on a Friday afternoon around 4pm and had the entire restaurant to ourselves. We ordered the quesadilla burger and the Caliente fajitas. Both were amazing! This restaurant was terribly awful. It was the absolute worst experience. I came with my family for the first time and it just a horrible dinner. My fathers veggie fajitas ONLY came with zucchini, my mother had little to nothing for dinner due to the small choices they had to offer, and my enchiladas were nothing but cheese and a god awful amount of it. On top of that there was slow service as we didn't get waited on until 20 minutes of waiting and our waiter was not patient and and in a hurry the entire time. I had lunch at Hugo Caliente. I had heard about it from a friend, and decide to give it a try because Chipotle was very crowded. I ordered the "Hugo Bowl", and had rice, steak, guacamole, pico, grilled onions and bell peppers, hot salsa, and a garden mix of greens. They have so much to choose from, so I decided to take it a little slow my first time. The food was delicious. Every bit of it tasted so fresh, and full of flavour. I love it. I can't wait to tell everyone about it. The staff was beyond helpful, placing the food on the table for me, and promptly picking it up. Just finished my first visit to Hugo's. Hands down my favorite Tex Mex I have tucked into. I had the pork enchilada with their sour cream and chili sauce, epic. It's hard to get excited about rice and beans when so many places just mail it in. Not here. The cilantro rice was inspired, fresh and delicious. The refried beans have this amazing smokey note. You can't achieve these kind of favors doing it out of can or a vacuum bag of pre-made product. Hugos's Caliente is a keeper. I would put it on your list of places to eat in Houston. read more

I got the Cabo lunch special, which was a great saviory mouthwatering piece of Carne Asada & an enchilada -At a bargain of a price (14$) for food this high caliber. I will be back for sure. I've eaten here a few times and am so impressed with the high quality available in a quick serve concept. The light, crisp chips and queso are delicious and keep me coming back again to try different dishes that rival both the best high end and dive Mexican restaurants. The shrimp enchiladas are particularly delicious with a chipotle cream sauce that gives it a great flavor. And the nachos is a meal in itself and are made to order.
