So, mixed reviews from our table. We had 7 people and we came for the lent specials. First the good: friendly servers, pretty fast service and an awesome draft beer selection! Beyond that we were mostly disappointed. The best thing at our table was the fish sandwich. Crispy and fresh tasting with a yummy bun. All agreed the fries were limp and greasy. Shrimp po boy was ok - a little skimpy and overcooked. Hush puppies were a huge disappointment. We were real excited for them, but they were just ok. Kind of small and regular. Nothing special. Finally the pizza. Consensus was it was way too much money for the amount of toppings. But the crust was pretty good. First time on Memorial Day 2019. Everything was right and a pleasure. Jason, usually the bartender, was helping out in the dining room. He was extremely pleasant and I was fascinated to learn about pizzas, the ingredients used at Caliente and the careful process they use to produce their menu. Jason is an asset for people who, like him, love food. I don't drink but my companion spoke at length to Jason about the extensive and diverse beer menu and at Jason's invitation tried several. Again Jason's knowledge was complete. Now the pizza. We shared the new "Pepperoni Palooza". In a word: perfect. Delicious traditional hand tossed crust. High quality pepperoni slices -three different kinds- and the right balance of the tomato and cheese mixture. Delicious! I moved to Monroeville about two years ago and have tried nearly every pizza place in town and been disappointed with all of them. Until we discovered that Caliente had opened nearby. We tried it immediately. And now we have ordered pizzas from them about 5 times. It is consistently high-quality​ pizza, every time. On time delivery, every time. We've never been disappointed. The dough tastes freshly made and so does the sauce. Toppings are generous and surprisingly creative on some of the specialty pies. My personal favorite pie is the Mama Honey pizza. Oh, my. Such interesting juxtapositions of flavor. Try it! I should also add that I have dietary restrictions. I'm allergic to dairy so I always order my pizza without cheese. Often, other pizza places make my pizza with cheese anyway, and I have to deal with that because I cannot eat it. Caliente has NEVER gotten that wrong. I don't know what happened with some of the early reviews, but I have never gotten service that warranted anything less than 5 stars. Phenomenal place to eat, whether you're ordering out or dining in. They're just down the hill from my house and their amazing menu helped keep me sane during COVID shutdowns. Their pickup procedure and contactless delivery were responsible decisions during the worst of the shutdowns. When the dining room is an option, I love their half price breads and sticks on Wednesdays. You can do some serious damage for $12 and have fun hanging out while you do it. My boyfriend, his friend, and I went to Caliente for the first time last night for their All You Can Eat Wings Sunday Special and will definitely be going back. Him and I got the wings, we had 5 different flavors and all were amazing. His friend got the jerk chicken pizza that he said was probably one of the best pizzas he's ever had. We wanted to get the most out of the wing deal but were so intrigued by the Oktoberfest pizza (shown in pic but doesn't do it justice) that we had to try it. Unfortunately, the smallest size you can get is a large so we wasted most of but it was so worth it. The pizza was so different but amazing. Not only was the food delicious, the bartenders were awesome. Overly friendly and very attentive. One of our wing orders took forever to come out but they made sure to make up for it. To add to the amazing experience, they have a huge selection of good beer. I wish they had more on tap but there is a huge selection of bottles. We ordered the pepperoni palooza with a bunch of different kinds of pepperoni on it, it was amazing but I think next time we will just order the regular pepperoni or just cheese since it was a little on the spicy side for our taste. Detroit Red Pizza. Sicilian cut crust which was light and tasty. Then the cheese and then pepperoni and sauce to finish. The pizza cooked this way let's you really taste all the ingredients. The food at Calientes is always very good. The problem, however, is that they almost never get the order right. Something always gets left off, last night was pepperoni, which was the only topping all 11 of us agreed on. My mother, who is dying from a brain tumor and lost most of her taste, specifically requested pepperoni so she could maybe taste the spiciness. What seems like a little mistake can mean a lot. Checked this place out for the first time this week. I like the updates they've done! Everyone was super nice and friendly. We tried the jalapeño bacon cheddar rolls and they were so good. I had a grilled buffalo chicken salad and enjoyed it. My fiancé had the chicken ranchero & he wasn't impressed. There was more bread than anything & his chicken was weird & gummy. When I called to check on it the lady was very dismissive and kept putting me on hold every time I tried to talk. Food wise its a good place. Service wise skip it if you care about that. read more

I've had this place 4x now. The food is pretty good, we always go with a large 2 topping pizza, usually the center is not cooked as well but it's not horribly doughy so we don't mind it much. The wings are okay, a little too chunky -fat- at times. Worst of all is the guy who takes calls; he curses persistently, is very hard to understand, often forgets what you order in a 45 second conversation and has very poor listening skills. Example: what are your wet wings? Caliente employee: goes on to list every wing type of wing dry and wet. Then forgets what you ordered . Also menu items have names that are not adequately descriptive like; Blues Brothers- a wing flavor that I have no idea what it would taste like (sometimes the employee doesn't know what it is either) or Cool Runnings- I guess some kind of Jamaican Jerk but if you've never seen that movie from '93 how would you know!? The food is great, my main gripe is service. In-Restaurant Service is slow and people don't seem to know what they are doing. Delivery Service is not recommend for items other than pizza. I have ordered delivery 4 times now and each time and item other than my pizza has been wrong. I think a fair takeaway from Caliente is that it's new, the operations are a little askew at the moment, but the food is freaking delicious. The place seems to always be packed and parking is not ideal. Navigating the hostess stand/getting a table was a little more of nuisance than it needed to be, and I don't know if the a/c is broke or it's always that hot in there but it was every bit of 80° inside. Again, all fixable. Once seated, our waitress was really helpful for newbies and very informative. My sister in law started with Angie Fries (Buffalo fries) and they were awesome. The five cheese pizza is everything you want in a 5 cheeser with a great mix of salty cheeses and fresh ricotta. I got a calzone that is MASSIVE and you get to pick four (!) toppings. Strong. My wife got the star of the table.. the Steak Ranchero. Perfect blend of cheese and really good steak which often times isn't the case on a specialty pie but it was seasoned well and packed with flavor. I was rubber necking the table next to us because their wings smelled amazing and I couldn't resist. We will all be back for certain. read more

I wouldn't call us picky ... but we just like GOOD FOOD .. lately we've been to so many restaurants that were just overpriced and horrible ..! The prices are good here ..And the food was awesome!! My 11 year old (which barley likes anything) asked "when we can come back?" soon as she bit into the wings .. the wings are OUTSTANDING .. I had the siracha honey .. omg it's so good !! It's not even that hot either , which I was worried it was going to burn my face off lol ... we also had buffalo ranch fries .... I couldn't believe how good those were too lol ...burger was excellent ! The first burger I've eaten that I didn't leave with a Togo box since I can't remember .. We have a rating system based on categories such as crust, cheese, sauce, toppings, ambience, sliders... so we give this a 7.5 with our system but actually we really enjoyed it. This pizza is excellent. Crispy crust that doesn't taste like cardboard, a mildly sweet sauce, and lots of toppings. The cheese bread is a house favorite!! Even the end pieces are cheesy! We've tried the other local places and keep coming back to this one. Delivery is slow- I will say that but when you KNOW it's going to be longer than they say it's not really a big deal. This was our second visit; we gave the slow service a pass the first time since they had just opened, the place was packed and the bartender was very apologetic. However this time was different. My husband, son and I enjoyed our drinks and Pepperoni Crisps while we waited for our Pulled Pork Cheeseburger and Pepperoni Palooza pizza. Overall we waited over an hour for the pizza. The burger was served LONG before the pizza, and served with pickles he had asked not to have. (but it was hot and very tasty per our son after he picked off the pickles). He finished the burger and the pizza still hadn't arrived, though customers who arrived after us were served. There was a couple next to us and a family next to them who waited even longer. We finally got to speak to a manager who explained there had been all-day issues with the ovens, and one was down. She explained our pizza would be a priority but we still waited another 20-30 minutes. When the pizza finally arrived (priority???) it was delicious! Our bill was adjusted, but we would gladly have paid the whole bill if someone had told us up front that there could be a delay.
