DO NOT GO HERE! I asked how much it would be to get all four tires aligned and a camber kit and they told me it would be almost $400! They then told me I only needed two tires aligned then proceeded to try to charge me the same amount that you'd pay for all four tires. I told them I no longer wanted to service, but he proceeded to align them after I said no. He then said he would put them back to how it was when I brought it, but still charged me $70 just for bringing the car in! When he adjusted the tires back he made them worse than how they looked when I brought them! Total scammers they just want to take your money and if you don't want the service anymore they still charge you PLUS they leave your car worse than how you brought it! read more

I'm usually never one to post reviews about businesses especially to talk ill of them, but this time I felt the need to warn people about this place. They're very nice people and I really want to believe they have good intentions, but their prices are just way too high it's ridiculous. I had my car literally towed to them all the way from San Marcos because a coworker recommended them to me. I figured they would be honest and reliable. I saw the $125 base price for a diagnostic and immediately felt suspicious but couldn't take my car anywhere else because it wasn't running. They charged me THAT much for a diagnostic which a lot of places will do for free or for a lot less and charged me to replace the car battery terminal when all I needed was a bolt that I could get at a shop. They couldn't even find a code when the car was finally on and were just going based off of a guess from the code I provided for them that was showing up for me earlier. It was a guess that was pretty accurate, of course, but just to replace the solenoids(a 5 minute job I later found out) that they recommended me doing first thing, they were going to charge another $500 (around $300 for labor). $850 in total is insane, but I was in a vulnerable state and unfortunately had to pay that initial fee, without a 100% accurate diagnosis mind you, costing me over $300 because I already had it towed out there. It's very disappointing and I hope, being as I'm a young woman, I wasn't taken advantage of because I trusted this place from what I thought was a good recommendation and all they could give me was $30 off. I only write this for others to learn from my mistake and to please choose another place in order to save your money. I'm not necessarily saying they're bad people because I can't make that assumption right off the bat, but one thing for certain is that they overcharge way too much for jobs that can be done yourself, even if you don't have a lot of knowledge on cars. read more

I have a 2014 kia sportage and had taken it to the dealer in Carlsbad for an oil change and 90,000 mile service which included the fuel system being flushed and the back end of my car felt really wobbly- it cost an arm and a leg and after I left the car was acting as if it was struggling for gas when I accelerated and made a sputtering sound. I took it back in to kia carlsbad and they said it must be the gas I was using (they didn't even ask where I get gas by the way) and also I needed to drive it aroind since they flushed the fuel systems. Anyway after calling back to say the problem didn't go away after I drove it around more as instructed, I gave up because they would need to charge for them to look at it. A great friend of mine has worked with California Automotive for her personal vehicles for years and the company her husband works takes all of their service vehicles here for @10+years. Eduardo and Lulu got me in asap. They were honest and upfront and showed me everything that needed to be addressed. They also gave me an order of priority in case budget was an issue because they wanted to make sure the car was safe to drive. I needed an overhaul on my car and they did everything brakes, wheels, alignment, broken suspension, fixed engine mount, and smog! My engine mount was broken and kia did not say a word. The wobbly feeling in the rear I had was not needing just alignment l&tires per kias recommendation. A part of suspension was broken ( I had a joe hauler on the back and used it for my son's dirtbike one trip and honestly I think it was too much weight for the car but I was desperate to take him to the track). I already new I needed new tires and brakes. The estimate for the tires was outrageous along with getting my brakes done at Kia. When my car left with dealership with a problem it didn't have before the service at kia was performed, I knew I needed to find someone trustworthy and knowledgeable. We know take our service trucks to California Automotive Specialist as well. Highly recommend this shop. Plus it's family operated and I love to support smaller businesses. read more

This place came recommended by a friend. Ex-friend now! They are busy, but I was willing to wait 10 days for appointment for my ac repair. When I asked questions such a their location, I was told to go to their website. I told the guy when I made the appointment that I did not have a ride and would need to wait. I asked if there was nearby place that I could wait. Guy said Starbucks very close. They had not specified a time, so I arrived at 8 am when they opened. I brought work to keep busy. I really don't mind waiting, but the Starbucks is well over a half mile away. I'm an old lady with an old dog and a long walk uphill to that Starbucks was not an option. I said I will just wait in my car til 9 when he claimed my appointment actually was and then go from there. I was trying to be respectful of his time by coming early and being willing to wait several hours if necessary. He then came back out after I waited and said his wife thinks I have a bad attitude and they won't work on my car afterall. It was actually kind of funny that he blamed his wife and had to involve her when he probably just forgot that I had an appointment and he was overbooked. I had heard from my friend that the wife was a real pistol and they argued all the time, but I did not think that would matter or affect me. When I expressed that I really don't mind waiting in my car, he started yelling "Bitc**, you can't wait here," at me. He would not allow me to wait, but he would not be prepared to deal with me until 9. I thought silly to go home which is 20 min each way when he could help me at 9. I couldn't believe he was actually screaming across the parking lot at me. I guess being so busy has this guy really stressed out. I cannot imagine trusting my car to this guy. If you go here, be prepared to deal with a loose cannon. Reminds me of the soup nazi. No a/c for you!!! read more

INCOMPETENT AND OVERPRICED! Brought my car for brake and light inspection, didn't realize that side light didn't work and they offered to fix it. Charged $30 dollars to connect the connector to the bulb (took them 5 minutes - what a shame to charge like that). Gave the guy the report and left the car for him to assess. 4 hours later we called and he said that the car needed a new catalytic converter. The problem was that the car hadn't moved from the spot we left it. All they did was pull up the fail code that WE provided and printed out a report of the PREVIOUS failure then charged us $90. My car needed a smog check because it failed elsewhere just by a small margin. I did a simple tune up and then brought it here. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. There's a nice picnic table with a new umbrella and comfortable chairs outside for waiting along with a fridge of sodas and Gatorades. There's also the same chairs inside. It's a mom and pop small business with courteous owners. They were very informative of things I needed to watch and replace in the future. I was having a hectic morning, and already dreading taking my two toddlers out into the rain to get the smog check done, and wondering how long I'd be waiting with them. Excellent customer service. My 1997 van failed the smog test at another station. Though California Automotive did not have the equipment to do the test they diagnosed the problem and at a reasonable price replaced the catalytic converter. I had no problem passing smog test at the original store. I wish they had the equipment to test older vehicles so it could be a one stop shop. read more

This man knows his stuff and this shop is by far one of the best I've been to. He has worked on my old 74 Dodge Dart, late model Honda and my late model Town and County van. Every time the work is done on time and correctly. I recently had a noise in the front end on my van that bothered me constantly. I took it somewhere else and spent over $500.00 to change every rubber bushing the front end. The noise was still there. I took it to Eduardo and he found the problem in 5 minutes and repaired it for less than $100.00. I have been extremely happy with my service from California Automotive Solutions. I originally went for a smog check, they were quick, and I was back on the road in under a half hour. That is really helpful when you have a 2 year old!! Because of my first experience there, I didn't think twice about taking it back in March, when my AC went out, during one of the hottest weeks in SD! They were able to fit me in and get it diagnosed and repaired in one day! They were accommodating and really professional. I came for a smog inspection and was seen right away. The whole process took about 25 minutes and the service was great.

If your a sheep this is the place to come to be sheared. Charges twice as much as should be for repair. Then gives lengthy explanation as to why vehicle will not pass smog inspection setting you up for sensor and catalytic converter replacement. Since spending almost $800 already you would be given a deal to diagnosis the problem- something I had thought had already been done. For this $50 deal by trial and error I might need to replace first one sensor then another until I might have to replace the catalytic converter. I have been led down the path before- I could see in the future $2000 and still not passing the smog inspection. In the meantime I was told over a period of weeks that if I drive first 50 then 100 then over 100 miles it might pass. I returned about 5 days later than he told me to- His wife then spills the beans and said she wanted to buy my vehicle and the owner confirms it by pointing to a vehicle similar to mine that he had to buy since I did not return when he wanted me to return. Bottom line after shelling out probably $3000+ I would have been told the vehicle could not repaired and out of the goodness of their hearts they would buy it from me for pennies on the dollar. Rather than take their $50 diagnostics deal I went to another Smog inspection station that does not do repairs and for that same $50 passed the inspection with the certificate included! read more
