BATTERED FISH TACO & CAJUN SWAI TACO

They have the self ordering kiosk and still slow as all get out. Added an optional tip but still had to ask for napkins and utensils on my to-go order. Ended up eating there

Today is Friday, which means it's Fish Nite for my family. California Fish Grill has maintained itself as a wonderful go-to place for a Friday evening out for my husband & I, but I absolutely recommend it for any other day/night of the week, as well. This visit was the first that we used the self-ordering kiosks at the entrance and all went well. The kiosks are very user-friendly, allowing for easy ordering, speedy payment, and an efficient way to move people along. I liked that the workers of the restaurant were able to dedicate more time with patrons around the restaurant instead of being stuck behind the cash register, only interacting with you to take your order. I ordered, and enjoyed, the branzino (Sea Bass) with a side of white rice & fire roasted street corn, hold the cilantro (photo attached from halfway through the meal, haha.) The Cajun Style sauce adds a perfect amount of extra flavor to the fish without overpowering the original flavors too much. I always enjoy the white rice which tastes just like... white rice! I am thankful that the white rice from CFG is always as it should be, not starchy/overcooked and never dry/undercooked. The fire-roasted street corn is a favorite of mine from CFG and I am so, so very thankful that they allow the option of opting-out from cilantro. Lucky me, I am one of those weirdos that has an issue with cilantro tasting like soap. Yes, this is a real thing and it's not fun. ("The "cilantro soap gene" refers to a genetic variation, primarily in the OR6A2 gene, that makes the herb taste like soap to some individuals. This variation causes a heightened sensitivity to the aldehyde chemicals naturally present in cilantro, which are also used in soap production.") Shout-out to CFG for helping my meal not taste like soap! This restaurant is located at the eastern edge of Plaza El Segundo, nestled in the southern corner. I have always found this location to be clean, well-kept, and nicely maintained. You can expect it to be busy on Friday nights, especially now with the start of the season of Lent. (Note: Roman Catholics abstain from meat on Friday's, with Fish being allowed.)

Came here during my lunch break and had a great experience. I'm rarely ever super impressed by service but it definitely stands out every time I'm here. They have two kiosks to order and someone standing nearby to hand out cups and in case you have any questions Battered shrimp and cajun fish tacos: 5/5. I liked both a lot. This came with a side of rice, another side of your choice, and a drink. I got fries on the side that were ok. I wish I got them seasoned though instead of choosing plain They also have lots of sauce options. The dynamite sauce is def my favorite by far and I would recommend! Note: you just choose whichever taco combo you want on the kiosk then you'll have a chance to sub one taco out for a diff protein

Great, healthier choice for a meal. Situated in a quiet strip mall tucked away from Sepulveda Blvd. Place your order on a touch screen. Prices are fair and I welcome counter ordering to save on no tip. My $8 clam chowder was heavy but great. The $4 garlic bread is grilled and covered in parmesan cheese but I didn't really taste garlic. My friend's tilapia combo is a large serving, with its two sides. The rice is chewy and the zucchini was good. They have premium sides like Mac and cheese for extra. Comfortable seating and clean bathroom. My only complaint is that the cups for water were small so we made several trips for refills. This is one of several CFG's I've been in. I look forward to going to one closer to me.

Haven't been here in several years. Love the area but parking can get very crowded. Two kiosks to order as well as 1 cashier. Kiosks can slow down if someone hasn't checked out the menu before they begin ordering. Lots of seating inside as well as on the patio. I had a single battered fish taco and a side Ceasar Salad. The salad was nothing to write home about. Chopped romaine, shaved Parmesan and crouton dust. Not even whole croutons. Did I get the last of the croutons? The taco was good. I ordered it with a flour tortilla. Fresh with sliced purple cabbage, diced tomatoes, cotija cheese and chopped cilantro. Delicious. No food pics - too hangry. The server bussing tables was super kind and helpful. We were a large group and he was there to help us all. Ok, bye.

Everyone's done & I'm still waiting for a fish wrap. Why can't they deliver the whole table order at once?

Sit right back and you'll hear a tale - a tale of a fateful fish! Follow along... Not much of a seafood fan, I was originally introduced to this fast-casual restaurant location about 15 years ago - agreeing to meet a friend for a meal there because she said they had chicken options. Thankfully, she was a generous person who let me try a bite of her Swai, and I was sold, coming back and bringing my family for meals on the regular. Sadly, as a regular, we noticed the service to be consistently inconsistent - unfriendly staff, uneven delivery of orders from the kitchen to the table (once, my whole family finished their meals before my Swai wrap made it out of the kitchen!) and not-so-clean spaces. We gave them a few chances, but eventually, removed this spot from our rotation. When the Culver City location - which is actually closer - opened, they had a different menu and it seemed our favorite items were no longer on it. So we really didn't visit there, either. And then came 2020, and as we all know, the industry has changed significantly. So... while bouncing around a last minute "let's get dinner, but the rotation feels old," I said to the fam "Let's check the menu and give Fish Grill another try!" And glad we did. The most recent menu updates have fresh and zesty items that also hit as being similar to old favorites. And though Culver City is still closer, we decided to return to El Segundo. Off the top, you could tell the space was clean and actively being kept up with sweeping and table clearing. Two very large screens replace human ordering, though there was a human helper to answer questions, and a backup human cashier to help to expedite the growing line. Brought mom, who 15 years and a lot of technology after first introduction to this location, is 79 and was not comfortable with screen ordering, but knowing a human could help if she comes back without her tech team is helpful. The human also came in handy to answer questions about the menu that were not obvious to answer (what ingredients need to be deleted from the honey citrus bowls so that they are not "spicy"? That would be the Ponzu)... tech aside, ordering was easy. The kitchen was fully staffed on this Friday evening and working hard to keep orders together. We had enough time to get settled at a table and fill our fountain beverages, and our name was called. Yes - you now pick your order up from the counter. But - at least our entire order was ready to go together! The plating of each entree was higher level than most fast casual spots. This was definitely not your sterile Panera white! Bro ordered the Triple Shrimp plate, and really enjoyed the different textures of the shrimp prepared. Mom ordered the fried Swai tacos. Though she enjoyed it, she did comment that there seemed to be more batter than fish in many of her bites. I ordered the Honey Citrus Shrimp and LOVED it! Of course, without the ponzu, it was sweet, and tangy. The shrimp was fried before it was completely coated. I ordered with slightly healthier brown rice and avocado. It was a chef's kiss meal to me. We also ordered a side of garlic toast. Actually, I'm not sure that I would call it toast as it was grilled but soft. It was covered in Parmesan. Though very good, I would have liked it to be more toasty. Very noticeably, the team was generous with requests for extra sauces - you must try the Tartar and Garlic sauces! And a nice touch was that the Raspberry Iced Tea had apparently run out, and when the new brew was in place, the manager walked around to each table to let them know there was fresh tea available if they were interested. The team was busy hustling, but took the time to be friendly. This was the experience that should have been years ago! So, at the moment I'm leaving 3 stars for all these positive points. I'm reserving the last 2 stars to come back and see if this is the new consistency, or if this really delightful visit just happened to be a fluke. And though I do eat a little more seafood now than I was willing to 15 years ago, I actually can't wait to try the Chicken version of the Honey Citrus bowl I enjoyed - and who knows, maybe I'll boldly try it with the (spicy) ponzu!

Can I start by saying the gentleman by the name of Fernie was LIFE! Immediately greeted me when I waked in. I mentioned to him that I haven't been to CFG since its original launch, so it's been years. Fernie came over to show me the kiosk options, recommendations even down to the Mango & Salt which was amazing! When my food was ready he made sure I had everything I need from utensils, extra garlic sauce, hot sauce options, and more. Food was amazing, fresh and prepared well. All the staff were friendly, and the restaurant was clean spotless! Looks like I'll be back more frequently. Thank you Fernie!!! The Cajun Swai Tacos, Seasoned Tomato and Feta side, Dynamite Shrimp Bowl, Salmon & Swai Combo, and Atlantic Salmon itself tasted good. Nice presentation on colorful plates. Great place for seafood.

Great experience here! Wasn't sure what to get so I ended up getting the bang bang? Dynamite? shrimp bowl not fried and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The only thing I would change was the rice- it's good for Mediterranean food but the texture for a bowl should be a different type of rice. Service was fast and friendly- they have computers to order and a cashier. Someone was helping us with questions while we ordered on the computer. This place is located in a busy plaza so parking was a bit difficult to find.

This wasn't our first time eating here, so I'm not sure why I've never left a review before but here we are. This time, we got the crispy fish sandwich, Cajun shrimp taco plate, and a side caeser salad. All of our food was delicious, but they didn't have what I originally wanted which was the Cajun salmon sandwich. Unfortunately, it has been taken off the menu. The restaurant was clean and the manager was friendly as he greeted customers. As always, we will return!

This place is outstanding! I orders swai white fish and a battered fish taco, all food was cooked to order served piping hot and fresh, and perfectly cooked. Good sized portions, reasonable prices, and wonderful customer service. Jaylin is so attentive, helpful, caring and friendly. All around wonderful! I look forward to coming back!

Came here for the Tuesday fish taco deal, which lured me away from Goop Kitchen. Each taco was $3.50 and nicely portioned. You go in and order at a kiosk and wait for your food. It took some time (it was the lunch rush on a Friday) but the employees were friendly and helpful. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It's kid friendly and I like having an option to eat healthily in a casual setting.

I woke up early to lounge and go for a dip at Hermosa Beach. After 3.5 hours, I was hungry and looking for something closeby, filling, and refreshing. Service was friendly, quick and overall solid. No major complaints. I absolutely loved the tacos I ordered: Pescado, Tinga, and Papas con Chorizo. The last two tacos had a little kick of heat to them which were enjoyable; I seriously considering purchasing more for takeout cause that's how awesome they were. I also got the Armando Palmero (2/3 Limon, 1/3 Jamaica) - perfectly tart and really complemented the savory flavor profile of my tacos of choice. The only callout I have is that the countertops and tables could be cleaner, but I shouldn't be too critical about this since I came in right after the lunch rush prior to any cleanup from said rush. I'm already looking forward to the next time I'm in the area because I have the melon & horchata agua frescos top of mind.

It's like a bar with about four seats to the right and four seat seats to the left so it doesn't accommodate many people, so people order to go. And that was my plan. I walk in and the server (with his chef at and money taped to it) and I grab the same menu. He allows me to have it, and he grabs another and gives it to one of the customers. This was the second time that this happened to me today and God knows how many times has happened to me in life. So at some point, I just have to stop ignoring the fact that Black people aren't welcome in certain spaces. Maybe we are by law, but not at all met with respect! That is all!
