This spot used to be awesome. Service was subpar, felt like we had too many people asking us how we were but when we addressed what we needed, nothing came out. Also felt like something was wrong in the kitchen as only half of our order came out then another half 15 mins later. We went for late dinner with my daughters. Opens till 930 pm . It's a very casual restaurant. You order in the counter and cooked for you. Once done pick it up in the counter. Pretty much self serve. The food I ordered was the tortilla chips with ahi poke. It was ok. The chips was very oily. The ahi poke needed salt and pepper. Very bland. The sweet potatoes fries was undercooked we have to return it and asked for new fresh one. They apologized and gave us a new one. The Brussels sprout was so oily . The shrimp and white fish combo was ok. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. I didn't care for the fish because it was so oily. Kinda disappointed with the dishes. This place is amazing. Wonderful affordable menu. Great polite accommodating staff. John who takes your order is funny and makes great margaritas and Lilli is great getting your order out fast. We go all the time. It gets very busy at times so wait times can be longer but well worth it. The open kitchen is fun to watch. Really a hidden gem in Upland. read more

I'm not one for putting "bad" reviews, but last night's experience definitely will deter me from coming back after frequenting this spot for 6 years. Waited 30 mins for our meal. It seemed that our order was either forgotten or kept on getting pushed back. Everyone got their meals in ample time. The salmon portion I got for my sandwich was thin sliced. They confirmed that was the actual size. However, in previous visits I've seen others have an appropriate portion. For the other plate, the rice & zucchini were undercooked (inedible). Overall, the service and quality of food were mediocre. I've been coming to this establishment for nearly 6 years, I'll pause from returning to this site. My wife and I went to the Upland CA Fish Grill Tuesday night for Taco Tuesday and we were very happy with the service, especially the server Ava that helped with our order. I know I am very picky but I don't care some of the options on fish and shrimp tacos and Ava was able to remove them and got our drinks and I was extremely impressed when a co-worker started our order but with all the changes we were requesting, she came over and treated the previous server professionally and exhibited very good training skills and took over from him per his request, all very good and shows the employees are treating each other with compassion and respect. We found a table that another couple just left from and I asked another employee for a towel I so I could wipe down the table and she advised me she would come over and clean it and then the original person that was helping me (I think he was in training), was very courteous and wiped down the table and thanked us for coming. The food was good except the chips (to well done and brittle), but I did not say anything to anyone, I was having a very good experience and did not want to spoil that. I usually only see service close to this in a fine steak restaurant. I appreciate their attention to service, that is usually what brings me back. This is a mixed review. This absolutely the worst service I received from California Fish Grill. With all the add on its $54 for two people. $$ for a splinter of avocado and they charged $5 for sweet potato fries instead of giving me a premium upcharge for fries. However the food was good. I was starving. It's took over 30 minutes to get my food. They had huge line and food was just sitting there under the lights to be picked up. They have also replaced people with the self serve machines that take your order. With all that I don't believe the service nor price was good enough to ever come back. The food is usually great, I've gotten the fish and chips about 4/5 times and it's consistently fresh and crunchy and hot. If you do a pick up I guess depending on where you live it will probably reduce the quality (because it's obviously losing heat while waiting to be ate). Ambiance is... okay? It's just a normal seating area, nothing special. You can order at a kiosk or with a person. You also fill your own drink at their fountain drink area and they make their own (the pineapple cream soda is sooooo good) I would probably say the best thing on their menu is the fish and chips because of the price and quality, I also tried their salmon bowl once besides the fish and chips and it was disappointing. It was literally just salmon and kale and the dressing was barely there, I wouldn't recommend it since it didn't come with anything besides salmon and kale. I placed a phone order once because the app didn't work and I went in and paid and everything was fine. The only issues I'd say was that the line for pick up orders and for ordering in person kinda become the same line, so while you're waiting for your pickup order, people are next to you waiting to order so it gets kind of tricky with who's going to go next. The other issue we had was when we recently went and did a pick up order, they forgot to give me tartar sauce which is fine- people forget things no biggie. BUT my partner went in for me to ask for some and he was able to get some but he told me that one of the workers who had short hair and was presumably female had a nasty attitude and ignored him when he was in line and helped the person behind him?? I'm not too sure why they would do that but...ok. We don't come here too often so whatever hopefully that worker isn't there the next time we go. read more

Having been a regular customer at several locations for years it brings me no joy to leave this review. My last visit was a game changer. I cannot imagine a scenario where I return. Most recently, at this location, after waiting 25+ minutes for food that has never been for than 5-10 minutes, I was mildly disappointed that two of the three meals that we ordered (both fried shrimp and fries) were room temperature. The game changer was discovering that at least some of the shrimp were not deveined. This has ruined California Fish Grill for me forever. All locations. The service/training is an issue at the Upland location. Food is good so I kept coming back but the customer service makes it hard to return. A few weeks ago I place a phone order for pickup, but when I arrived to pickup they stated they lost my order and had to make it then. Unfortunate but they apologized so I understood and they made it within 15 minutes. Fast forward to this past weekend, I placed an online order so hopefully it wouldn't get lost this time. Went it to pickup and it wasn't ready on time so I asked the staff about my order. One member said it'll be ready in 5 minutes. I waited 10 minutes with no update and asked another staff member. This time I got attitude from the staff member just for asking about the time my late order will be ready, are you serious?! They finally finished my order after 15 minutes of waiting, pretty sure they didn't start the order until after I arrived at my pickup time. read more

I've been coming here for years and in the past couple months the food has not been good. The last 2 times I got salmon there was bone in it and I shared with my 3 year old. I went today and got the fish and chips with Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes fries, it was HORRIBLE! The fish was burnt and full of oil. They put the fish on top of the sweet potatoes fries and sprouts and the sides had NO FLAVOR!! Everything tasted like oil and was so nasty at that point! I don't feel like I had the best experience on this recent visit. While the food was great, the overall service seemed to be lackluster. Upon arriving and placing my own order at the kiosk, I came to find out that there were no more battered fish tacos available. This was ultimately very disappointing, considering this was the one exact item I wanted to get during my visit. I ultimately ended up choosing a different item, which thankfully was yummy. One thing that really bothered me during this visit was that once I received a notification that my food was ready, I went to the counter to pick it up only for it to not actually be ready. The employee informed me that the salad I ordered was not ready. He then told me that he would bring me my food and tray once it was ready. After waiting two minutes, the employee called ME back over to come pick up my food, instead of bringing it to the table like he had mentioned he would. This was quite bothersome. Another unfortunate thing was the small amount of fries we were given for our fish and chips plate. As you can see from the picture, it looks like what would be the leftover fries from the night. While they were tasty, there was no more than a small handful. Considering it is one of the main ingredients of the dish, the quantity received was disappointing. Overall, I'm not sure that I would rate this a good visit. The food was yummy. The overall experience was not the best. Had this been my first time I definitely would not be coming back again. Although I do love the food so I will find myself here again soon, hopefully with better service. read more
