I recently discovered a new sustainable seafood restaurant near my house that I hadn't heard much about. Curious to try it, I visited and found a variety of seafood options. One feature I really appreciated was the kiosk ordering system, which included pictures of everything on the menu. I ordered the Honey Citrus Shrimp Bowl with avocado. The portion sizes were quite generous, and the shrimp were jumbo and plentiful. Overall, the dish was very tasty and filling. My only criticism is that the avocado cost an extra $1.25. While that's not too steep if you get a decent portion, I only received three slices from one half of the avocado (as shown in the picture). Despite this small issue, I can definitely see myself returning with family and friends. read more

Prior to this visit, it had been quite a long time before we had stopped by a California Fish Grill location. If I remember correctly, this location opened some time in the middle of last year (2025) because I remember seeing them remodeling when I visited Urbane Cafe next door. We were picking up an online order next door at Urbane Cafe, and we were intrigued enough by California Fish Grill, as there were a constant stream of customers coming and going, that we decided to place an order online. Once we placed an order online, we noticed that there was an offer (purchase a drink and get a Everything Protein Bowl for free) so why not order another item since we were already there. Lobster Roll Plate $27.95 Everything Protein Bowl (white rice) $12.99 (Free w/ Drink purchase - App) Cajun shrimp, salmon, swai and grilled chicken served over white rice, beans, diced tomato, chili mix and chopped parsley. Served with a side of our Roasted Tomatillo Salsa. Soft Drink $3.60 Of course with any takeout order, the items do not taste as fresh as eating them in store, but we had a few errands to run before enjoying these items. I have no frame of reference for Lobster Roll costs anymore, so we thought that the price was not bad for the amount given along with the taste. We did have a shell piece in our Lobster Roll, so I guess that at least lets you know it is actually pieces from a lobster. The Everything Protein Bowl sure was larger than expected! With the amount of protein included in this bowl, it was more than worth it, especially at its price. Since we were not sure how "spicy" the chili mix could be, we asked for no chilis, but there were still some on the plate. The order was ready for us when we walked in and there were a few customers enjoying their meals as well. The odd thing was, there were no trashcans anywhere! So, of course, plates/trays were left on tables for the employees to clean. If the employees are busy, then the trash is just left there on the tables. A bit untidy and inconvenient if one is looking for a place to sit. I guess one could move the trays to consolidate on another table but it is just a bit odd that we did not see a trashcan anywhere. There was plenty of parking in front of the restaurant as there are more parking spots than actual storefronts in this plaza. Overall, we would return again. read more

Stopped to eat here with my mom after a long day of shopping. I ordered salmon with garlic butter, rice, and tomato, and feta salad. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and definitely not dry. It was bright orange with a buttery center that flaked easily with a fork. Literally melted in my mouth. The rice was fluffy and tender with a warm flavor. The tomato and feta salad was excellent. The tomatoes were firm with just enough feta, and olive oil with a hint of lemon. I will definitely be back to try a new dish. read more

Some friends brought my family and I here to try it out, and we all ended up really enjoying the food and how nice and helpful the staff was! Everything came out pretty quickly too, especially considering we were a group of 10! I ordered the Grilled Plate: Seared Ahi Mahi Tuna (rare) with Garlic Butter, White Rice and Diced Rosemary Zucchini. I loved the flavor the garlic butter added to both the tuna and the rice. The tuna was also perfectly juicy on the inside while still having that grilled exterior, and the portion size was perfect too! Definitely enough to feel full by the end of our lunch I also got to try some of the French fries and really liked the seasoning on them. I'd definitely order a side for myself next time. Do not come to this California Fish Grill, the service leader AJ is fine, but the management team DOES NOT CARE about their customers and they will handle your food with neglect. California Fish Grill (West Covina) is a 4 Star (instead of a 3 or lower) because the staff member Lexi had the courage to offer a sincere apology for their chef's ineptitude. I found sharp bones and sponge wire in my food at this location (photos attached). Honestly, there's genuine potential at California Fish Grill (West Covina). The front-of-house staff are dedicated and welcoming; the location is clean and comfortable; and the food's flavors are enjoyable. However, it needs more reliable kitchen staff before regaining my full trust. I arrived at California Fish Grill (West Covina) near opening time (11:10AM) on a Tuesday. The cashier (receipt says Angel) is hardworking and friendly. Angel helped me when the self-service kiosk stopped functioning properly, and Angel answered all my questions. Angel continued to work hard in the background as I dined. (Important Note: The self-service kiosk does not accept cash. If you only have cash, you must order at counter.) I ordered the Clam Chowder ($7.99) and Atlantic Salmon Plate w/ Garlic Butter, White Rice, and Diced Rosemary Zucchini ($16.25). The food arrived in 11 minutes and 51 seconds. Fairly quick! As mentioned prior, the food was prepared with avoidable mistakes. I found sharp bones in the salmon, and I found an inedible sponge wire lurking in the rice. Mistakes aside, the food was prepared fairly well. The Clam Chowder had a light thickness and it flowed well. Arguably, the broth was a little too watery, but it treaded that line cautiously. The Clam Chowder was also well-seasoned and filled with soft potatoes & plenty of freshly diced clams. The Atlantic Salmon dish was plated aesthetically. The Salmon had moisture but it tasted a tad overcooked and rubbery. Thankfully, the garlic butter sauce helped to add much needed flavor. Also, the side of tartar sauce helped mask the fish's chewiness. (Quick Note: This location had pre-packaged sauce packets. I did not see a sauce bar.) Concerning ambiance, California Fish Grill (West Covina) is very clean and shiny. It is well-ventilated. It also has indoor and outdoor dining areas. I also enjoyed the 80s electro pop music. The location felt modern and new. Overall, California Fish Grill (West Covina) has potential. I'd wait a little longer before returning, but the flavors and freshness are familiar and satisfying. Shiny and new. Wanted a quick seafood meal and remembered this recent add to West Covina. We arrived an hour before closing on a week night. It wasn't busy at all and was able to walk up to the kiosk and order immediately. Staff were helpful while we ordered. Plenty of seating from tables to high tops and outdoor patio dining available. Love Stubborn sodas and the brewed teas. The restaurant is really clean and this might be due to it being new and not a very busy last hour of the night. Received our food 20 minutes later. This is average especially if your meal is being made as you ordered it. How long will the wait be on a very busy weekend? The ceasar Cajun shrimp salad was good as expected. Salad is fresh and crunchy. The shrimp was cooked just right with Cajun seasoning. This is something I'd order again. The butterfly buttered shrimp is a repeat order which is always delicious with the white rice and kale slaw. Slaw is not bitter or overly creamy. Will definitely be back. Location is on the outskirts of the West Covina mall. Located next to Gen Korean BBQ and Urbane Cafe. Service was great - I'm glad the actual worker hopped onto the register because they also have two kiosks that take customers forever to place their order. I love their Avocado bowl because it's basically a rice and beans bowl topped with a few of their side dishes, such as Brussel sprouts, zucchini, and grilled corn. I add salmon because I'm eating it sourced by CA Fish Grill. Everyone else in my group enjoyed their meal too. My grandmother enjoyed her salmon, zucchini, and french fries plate. Their french fries are seasoned with a nice seasoned salt, or maybe its their cajun seasoning?? My husband ordered their tilapia plate with white rice and tomato and feta. First time at California Fish Grill in West Covina and already planning our next visit! I ordered the two shrimp taco combo and it was SO good! The tacos were loaded with shrimp (they did not skimp!) and the dynamite sauce added the perfect tangy kick. I got fries on the side, and honestly they were perfectly seasoned and super tasty. My boyfriend went with the fish and shrimp platter and it was also delicious. Great portion sizes and everything was cooked just right. He chose the misoslaw and beans as his sides. The misoslaw had this nice sweetness to it that balanced the plate, and the beans were simple but solid. Service was great, too. Seeing California Fish Grill fall so hard in the past 4 years is so sad. They removed all the wild caught seafood options, no more bread served, and prices have gone up while quality and portion sizes went down. My lobster nachos were so skimpy. So many naked chips. Definitely not worth $28. Seems like all they care about is opening more locations without focusing on quality and the customer. I've been to several California fish Grill locations , I thought I would out try out this West Covina location, which I've never been. I placed my order online my pick up time said 8:10 pm. I arrived at 8:03 pm as I'm there waiting for the schedule time of pick up several people come in and place their order in person on their kiosk. The young lady behind the counter asked me my name and what I was waiting for. I let her know she said my food should come up shortly. Unfortunately, my food never came up shortly. Several people that order in person in the kiosk all got their food, and I was still waiting. I had to ask the girl now at 8:35. Where is my food? Why is it? Everyone that came before me got their food and I ordered online ahead of time She went in the back to talk to the cooks and they made my food. I've been to this franchise at different locations, so I was really disappointed in the service and the food at this one. We ordered some of our standards: fish and chips, clam chowder, grilled swai and house salad. It took a long time (more than 15 minutes) to get the food, and then my side of zucchini that came with my grilled swai dish tasted awful. It tasted like it had been soaked in sewage, rinsed and then broiled. It looked good, but the taste was atrocious. It's a fairly new restaurant, so I'm hoping it has worked out the kinks. Dined in at the California Fish Grill in West Covina and I can say the food is amazing. I ordered the Dynamite Shrimp Bowl and it was soooo delicious with the perfect amount of heat to it. I also ordered a side Caesar salad which is good because I mean how can you mess up a salad. The customer service here is also an A+ being that they greet you as soon as you walk in.
