What a sleeper...live in Louisville for over 20 years now and only tried this place 2 months ago. I've already been back 5 times. Tried the filet and baked potato the first time, while my husband got the pecan encrusted trout. Both were delicious, but I am truly obsessed with the trout. It is delicious with or without the sauce, light, mild, scrumptious. We've tried the branzino, deviled eggs, and the best chocolate cake. Never say never I guess! I'm not sure what was going on Saturday night but it was a mess. The hostess was scattered and sat us by the kitchen which was terrible! We quickly moved to the bar and from there everything just got worse. I sent my Caesar Salad back twice!!! Both times they served me old lettuce. I mean seriously?! I've never gotten served an old salad from here. The only good thing was our spinach queso dip. After the salad mishap we decided to leave and go somewhere else. went there last night. we got the deviled eggs and we both liked them. we both ordered a salad and we enjoyed them. I ordered the pork loin and came with some bang sauce which was delicious. the loin was super tender. I substituted the mashed potatoes for the macaroni and cheese. the macaroni was delightful. my wife ordered the steak and fries and she loved it. no military discount. being my birthday they gave us complimentary carrot cake with cream cheese icing. their cake is the best. it's a little pricey for 2 people. it was $99. read more

Had a mobile order and the portion of one of the items was half of what it normally is. I called and they said no problem, we'll have it fresh for you if you wanna come back. I wait and then a manager comes up there and says "why didn't you bring the food with you? I'm not giving you free food." The food was amazing however, the service was not the best. We've been to J Alexander's many times before and they are usually extremely attentive but our server (Trey) barely spoke to us, didn't offer the specials, and didnt check to see if our plates needed to be picked up or our waters filled. #37 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) We were in town for a funeral and heard this place was good so we have it a try. Really nice and inviting inside. Our server was great! My honey got the prime rib sandwich with Mac and cheese and I got the trout with mashed potatoes and broccoli. We also decided to share a side salad. The salad came out first and it was so big I told the server it wasn't ours. There was no way that large salad was the side salad. Come to find out she came back with a salad and it was the side salad but it was super huge. We got ranch on it which was good and I really appreciated all the toppings on the salad. Our meals didn't take too long and everything looked really good so we dug in. My honey said his prime rib was really nice and moist and the Mac and cheese was phenomenal. I loved the trout because where I live we don't have fish like that so it was really a treat to get something so light and flaky. Things went well until we got home and realized that my husband had a reaction to an ingredient. They are uniformly excellent and Louisville is no exception. service: Bar staff was very professional and accommodating. Food runners and other waitstaff were outstanding. bar: My Bulleit Rye Manhattan ($16 as of 03/2025) was the usual fantastic rendition. At the bartender's suggestion, my wife had a glass of Austin Hope Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon ($15) and thought it was great. food: My wife was thrilled to see Grilled Pork Tenderloin ($26) on the menu. This isn't available in every location and it's exceptional. She subbed their excellent orzo and wild rice for the usual smashed reds. I had the Steak Burger ($18) and it was great. Their fries are not to be missed. details: The place was packed on a Monday night. Reservations highly recommended, especially for the weekend. I DONT PAY for learning curve or mediocre food.!! MY son and I decided on late lunch/early dinner. Wasn't busy around 4pm. Disappointed we weren't offered the complimentary bread square & butter. Regardless, We ordered appetizer of spinach conqeso and chips. Very tasty very hot and chips were crunchy and not too salty, like other places. My son ordered a steak burger. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich which had coleslaw on it. Both came with large portions of thin cut fries. His steak sandwich was Very good and could taste the quality of the meat. My spicy chicken sandwich had the coleslaw on bottom bun half and hard to hold plus bun was wet and soggy. Typically coleslaw served on top of protein. Fries were "ok" but not hot and a bit undercooked. Service was attentive ad excellent. While food was fair to good, I would give a 3.5 * but will give it a 3. They have some amazing cuts of steak, though over the years I also learned their rack of ribs are absolutely phenomenal too! This place could deliver great food on any given day but occasionally they don't . When they make a mistake Management tries to cover it and never apologize . Just 2 weeks I ordered the rotisserie chicken . It was bad chicken , it tasted old and decomposing not fresh . The management definitely needs to have that changed as it's unprofessional and confusing for patrons calling. I received my order on time, however they forgot 2 items from my order, even though the staff assured me they triple checked that everything was bagged. His name is Tyse and he spent approximately 90% of the time we were there talking with the family in the booth across from us. As it turned out, he never actually "served" anything to us (except the check of course). Various other people served our food throughout the evening. Our view was mainly his backside during our entire meal. I am so insulted that I am not sure I will dine there again. I certainly hope that whoever supervises him will address this issue.
