For $30.00 THIS WAS A GREAT PLACE!!! We got the beef and shrimp and the chicken and shrimp! Both of the plates were well packed and had lots of food. It took about 15 minutes to make our food as we sat at the food court. I will be honest, lots of options to choose from, but this place is one of the best! If you must try anything from this place, this would be the best! Ooops I forgot I got two large drinks, so for 30 bucks in the world of inflation in cali, this was a great price! Looking forward to trying more items!!

I heartily endorse each and every plate they offer. For being rather fast food, I give them five stars. Your meat is cooked in front of you. The vegetables are superb, and the rice is fluffy. I have basically tried every dish on the menu at this restaurant. As I needed a semi-healthy choice close to my place of employment, this was it. The price was fair for the quantity of food you receive. If you wanted to, you could possibly serve two or three meals on one plate.

My family and I were looking for a cheap quick place to eat at the mall and we came across California plate. The Filipino cashier was super friendly and very helpful with recommendations on the menu. A chicken plate was 5.99 and the serving size is big so it's definitely worth it. Great customer service and food would come back for sure :)

This is located in the Main Place mall in Santa Ana, inside the food court area near the bottom of the elevators to the movie theater. The place is hard to miss cause there's a giant $5 sign for the chicken bowl, which is what I got. The chicken is made with a type of teriyaki tasting sauce and comes with vegetables over a bed of rice. Overall it was decent, but it was quite greasy in some parts and it didn't taste all that great cause of it and the sauce that was used which I felt was a bit sweet. However, for $5, it as a lot of food and definitely made me quite full by the end of it. They have other options such as using beef or having your meat with pineapples in them. Sort of reminds me of that chicken bowl place in the Westminster mall (not sure if that is still there).

This has always been my go to place for teriyaki plates! It's always freshly made and the teriyaki sauce gives it a great flavor regardless of which proteins you pick! It's located on the second floor food court area. The area does get busy during the weekends but there's plenty of seating. The prices are very reasonable and highly recommend! read more

Portions price and taste. The service is like a habachi style grill cooked right in front of you very fresh. I have been going there for about 10 years or so and I have never noticed a drop in quality or an increase in price. The regular size plate can get more than the job done. I have yet to find another place such as this one this one is definitely a hidden gem inside of mainplace mall. Would literally give it a 10/10 I could never get bored easily the best food option there and don't see me leaving that spot anytime soon. read more

they close WAY too early. This is the only good place in the food court and they close at SEVEN. WHY?!?! I love the food here but it feels like I can never go since as soon as my girlfriend FINALLY gets off work, they're about to close. CLOSE AT NINE or TEN like a normal restaurant damn it! read more

After wandering the mall, me and my girl wanted to share something to eat before our KBBQ dinner later that day. Their $5 chicken plate sold us. Chicken, vegetables, and rice. We were offered samples. I typically dislike teriyaki, but I wasn't about to spend $7-$10 elsewhere. We did all vegetables and was surprised at how much vegetables came with the plate. Not too bad, especially for $5. If you want to fill up on a budget, check this place out. Nothing spectacular, but definitely worth the money. Plus, help out a small business. Everything else in the food court is a corporation anyway. read more

Time for another honest reviews. I been to other mall locations that have a similar selection, i wont name name them because that shit is tacky. But from all the malls in my area. This place has the best tasting teriyaki in all mall's. Now before you assholes start naming places in hawii or something. I am talking about mall food, mall food generally is trash. But this has a different better taste. And 4 stars goes to the best tasting mall food. I would like to end this review with elites giving this place anything below 4 stars. NEVER AGAIN! I've been coming here for over 4 years. And 3 years at their original Westminster location. Follow them wherever they go. And my family is addicted to this place. They got a new hire working 3/6/2021 evening time around 6:50.... the cash register employee is by far the rudest man this place can ever hire. And what's sad is to see the lady (don't won't to say her name) stare at me letting this happen. I saw you looking down and not wanting to even say a word of what was going on! To the owner of this place. He turn down 5 clients waiting in line at 6:53 telling them they close at 7. My friend wanted chicken plate and was told no more and explain to give him a second to explain to the group there's no more chicken but can get something else. My friend being a good person he got in line once again. To not be rude after waiting previously. Once we wanted to get the beef. He told us it was closed and pushed everyone away. And I explained he was in line and got in line once more! Can't believe you have the balls to push everyone away while the rest would of taken our order. But some how they give a guy like you small power and you think you're entitled to dominate everyone. What a shame . I'll be sure to tell my friends and family to get rid of this as there go to. You ruined our go to place by hiring the worst cashier. read more

For the first time I came here I didn't like the atmosphere at all but it was a good deal and I love teriyaki bowls. I was so disappointed on how the food tasted. The whole plate tasted very salty and blah. I guess I got what I paid for then.. Just go to Banda or Great Khan. read more

I have been coming here weekly for over 10 years and Its normally a 4/5 star for my taste. A couple of months ago they switched the rice and it's now super dry. Food is not enjoyable anymore. I hope they switch back sooner than later before the lose too many customers. I still stop by but before I purchase I ask if it's the "super dry rice". read more

Soggy rice, limp veggies, but decent chicken and beef. I've been twice (thought the problems I had might have been limited to on visit), and will not be going back again. Rice should never, never be soggy. If you have a rice cooker, I'm not even sure how that's possible. Veggies should include more than cabbage and a few slivers of other things. Don't be swayed by the sign for a cheap meal - it's just not worth it unless all you want to eat is the meat. read more

If we could we would come here everyday and order the $4.99 Chicken Plate Special. We love that the chicken is cut up into small pieces so each piece is nicely coated and slightly charred with teriyaki sauce. They do not pour, literally, pour the teriyaki sauce on afterwards unless YOU said yes. So if you don't like teriyaki sauce on your plate, please say NO. We'd recommend asking for it on the side. The plate is normally plenty of food for both of us to share. Only once did we buy 2 plates...so worth it. Add chili sauce on top for a nice kick. Great, now we're hungry. read more

Didnt have anything planned for lunch so decided I would go to the Main Place Mall in Santa Ana and get something from the food court. I know its a mall and food courts are usually bad but i thought maybe I will find a undiscovered treasure. Well, that didnt happen. I was walking around the food court and saw something called California Plate. I stopped and looked at what they were cooking but couldnt figure out what it is. I asked the girl working the counter "what kind of food is this?" she said teriyaki. I figured I havent had that in a long time so thought what the hell. I ordered the Chicken Plate special which is $4.99. pretty cheap. And cheap is what I got. the food quality was poor. not the best chicken in the world. didnt enjoy the taste of it either. I told them easy on the teriyaki sauce too. It was certainly worth the $5, but it wasnt good and wasnt enjoyable to eat. Been here once and no need to come back. dont think i will be coming back to this food court for lunch anymore. read more

My friends wanted Panda Express... which I have way too often. And I know I like that Express Japan place across the way, but thought I'd try this out today. It was... just okay. The veggies and stuff I would've left off. Got a few little pieces of chicken cartilage and stuff that wasn't really edible. But overall? Just... meh. Tasty and not as busy as the surrounding places. Customer service was great, they cook the meat/food to your liking. I got a plate with beef and shrimp and asked for veggies instead of rice. I also asked for no sauce since Im trying to cut down on the sugars. Clean eating at it's best for it being fast food haha :) read more

I was pleasantly surprised by how good this place was. The steak pieces we cut think and the shrimp were small and delicious. It came with load of rice and frozen vegetable, which were fine. And yeah l definitely be back. And the guys back there were great! Very friendly! read more

Very dirty place they never clean. Vegetables were old. The glass was very dirty and seemed like it hadn't been clean in days also the grill was filthy with oil leaking. The employees obviously don't care about their job they just threw my husbands plate right at his face. read more

California Plate is one of the many restaurants in the Santa Ana Mall food court. There are many choices and I definitely think that CP is one of the best deals for your money I bought the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl which cost around $6. There was solid chicken, hot teriyaki sauce, and just enough rice and vegetables. Not too much else to say, tasty food for a good deal. read more

A good healthy option when you're at the mall. Although I must admit that I do venture to the mall just to get it. Their chicken is always moist. And their teriyaki sauce is delish! I'm not a big fan of their beef but then again I'm never a big fan of teriyaki beef. A chicken plate is about $5, which is a pretty good deal. This location is always changing. I remember they had Catch 22, a sushi place and a couple others I don't' recall the name of. Maybe its curse of the location, but I hope this isn't true. I hope California Plate is here to stay. read more

As for the food, it's mostly very small plates that can be shared, but are small portions, unless you get the limited edition or shared plates. It can get pricey if you try the skewers and appetizers. We got the Bone Marrow Onigiri, Pickled Plate, Pork Belly Skewers, Hanger Steak Skewers, and Scallops, and everything was yummy. Seven Grams XLB (4/5): Juicy and flavorful! Not the absolute best I've had, but still worth ordering. Golden Beef Noodle Soup (5/5): This bowl right here was amazing. Green leafy kale paired with the extra hearty soup was what made this bowl a standout dish for me. 100% would order this alone! Seating consider is around 10 tables plus hjgh top stools, so if you are a large group the wait can be long. We stopped by yesterday to try out some new items, which were a mixed bag. First the Cheese Chicken Roll was surprisingly good. Imagine the Beef Roll and swap things around to get something off of a fancy KFC menu. It features a crispy flaky tortilla outside, wrapped around copious chicken (katsu texture), some lettuce for a crunch, some melted cheese, and then a spicy Thousand-Island type dressing. It all pairs well, has a good chicken portion, and texture variation too. My only desire would be for slightly more lettuce and slightly less cheese, otherwise perfect. Crispy Lotus Root Fries are solid, but not a replacement for typical potato fries. The lotus version was not as crispy or crunchy, but would be an Asian version. It comes with ketchup and the same spicy thousand island dressing as the chicken roll. Lastly we were let down by the Pan Fried Shrimp&Chicken Dumplings (Whole Wheat). The whole wheat wrapping had a very slight texture difference, not as chewy as the typical dumpling wrapping. But the inside was the main focus. It seemed like it was a fishball inside, a homogenous color and texture and more reminiscent of fish than of shrimp. It's possible we got the wrong dumpling. Based on this experience we would not order it again. Wheat wrapping would be fine, but the shrimp/chicken filling would be a no.

My son got their chicken nuggets with fries since the pho broth had some sesame oil which he's allergic to, but he loved it. It came in the cutest kid "happy meal" type of box and we used the scissors given to cut the nuggets and a few "washed" noodles. Overall, would love to come again for a great bowl of pho if the wait isn't too long!

The corn nuts on top are meant to give a nice crunch, and while they tried to crush it, it's still too hard for my liking, so we mixed it with the sauce so it could soften up. 2. Seafood soup ($26): 7/10 and not worth the $26, as the swai fish is very little, you get only approx 4 shrimps, and the owner couldn't allow subbing calamari for more shrimp as he explained that the seafood is all pre-portioned out. The soup is very sour like Tom yum but it had too much lemongrass and was too sour for my liking. It came with 3 pieces of cucumber that could rival Ding Tai Fung and spicy sauce that seemed like their rendition of Lao gan ma. The price would've made me -1 but they get a +1 for the cucumber and Lao gan ma type spicy sauce, otherwise it would've been a 6/10 for me. 3. It's garlicky, the noodles are perfect texture, and the shrimp are large and crisp. I've been ordering garlic noodles at every Viet restaurant I've been to and haven't met a better executed one 5. For dessert, pistachio mouse cake ($12): 10/10, never knew pistachio and berries are a good combo but it was so mind blowing! The pistachios had the perfect crunch, and the wild berry sauce helped cut the richness of the cake. I only wish there was 2-3 more pieces of strawberry as it is the perfect accompaniment to cut the richness of the mouse cake. TLDR: summer menu is worth a go (minus the seafood soup) and please bring back the mushroom soup!!

Just a word of warning if you happen to be a messy eater like me: the chili oil on the noodles is great, but it will absolutely weaponize your own clumsiness against you. I managed to get a nice splash of it directly on my shirt. It's a permanent souvenir now, but honestly, the flavor was worth the casualty.
