I honestly can't believe the prices at Mos 2 these days. I paid $50+ for 3 combo plates, and the portions were a complete joke. The "beef" in the teriyaki combo looked and tasted like dry, salty ground beef--definitely not what you'd expect when ordering teriyaki beef. Everything felt low-effort and over-seasoned. Beyond the food, the ambience was just as disappointing. The space is tiny and claustrophobic, with barely any seating inside. The few outdoor tables don't add much--just as cramped and not exactly comfortable. It feels like they expect you to grab your food and leave, which might be for the best considering the overall experience. Mos 2 used to be a decent quick stop, but it's definitely gone downhill. Between the inflated prices, poor food quality, and uncomfortable setup, service is ok, food comes out pretty fast since everything is basically pre cooked which explained the dry food.

It used to be good, but not any more. More and more they give you chicken skin instead.

I've been coming here since I was a kid and it never fails me. I get the chicken plate and it hits every time. I love their sauce and always ask for extra! The plate comes with salad and an egg roll and wonton which are also yummy.

Small hole in the wall serving up fire teriyaki plates Bed of rice piled up with your protein choice and 3 breaded and fried shrimp one veggie egg roll and a fried gyoza the chicken is by far the best option of the 2 the beef was good too but a little dry and tough the chicken is well seasoned and juicy the veggie roll was even good I doubt it's frozen then fried same for the shrimp it was tender and well breaded it did not taste like frozen fried shrimp the kitchen staff was busy efficient and organized and very welcoming he even let me change the order at the last minute that's good customer service we ate out side nice shaded area and it got busy for the lunch rush FYI it's cash only

    Rude cashier

I've been to the other two locations MULTIPLE times. Since I'm always around the Anaheim location I usually go there. But today, the grand Ave location was closer. Absolute horrible experience. I ordered a regular pork bowl and a drink. They got the wrong order. It's fine, it happens. But I told the cashier and he immediately started giving me attitude. He yanked the bowl from me and then told the cooks to remove the meat. The cooks then proceeded to remove the meat with their BARE hands; while KNOWING that he needed to wear gloves when handling food. And I called them out on it and the cashier got angry and started saying that their hands are clean. Is this guy serious?

Been coming here since 1999 and our family loves Mos! Not much has changed to the place. We usually get the chicken combo plate and they always give lots of chicken. Service is pretty quick! You can call ahead and pick up. Only thing is they need to add more salad dressing to the salad in the combo plate, sometimes dry. Other than that we will keep coming back here!

Huge chunks of juicy chicken, chopped fresh green onions and salty and sweet teriyaki sauce on a warm white sticky white rice makes the bowl perfect here. On top of the food, the fast and friendly service from the gentlemen behind the kitchen and the counter elevates the experience here. There is an outdoor patio to sit but most people togo their meal. Note that they only take cash. However, if you forget, don't worry because they have an ATM machine, which will charge $1.99 fee.

Maybe just a bad batch, but still really good. Bluefin & Salmon Sashimi -- 5/5 Order it with the pickled wasabi. It melts in your mouth -- SO good. Purple Sweet Potato Fries -- 4/5 A great appetizer and perfect for snacking with drinks. Beef Sukiyaki -- 5/5 Served with a soft-boiled egg, tofu, mushrooms, and kimchi. The assorted tempura was good, they had a lot of variety and I enjoyed the mushroom, asparagus, and potato! The shrimp tempura portion is very generous in size and was good. A little overpriced for what it is, but if you love this assortment of fried tempura, it is overall good to try! The filet katsu don was amazing, and I like that it came with a small bowl of miso soup! It's always nice to have that as a complimentary side dish. The katsu was crispy and complimented well by the sauce! I'd highly recommend this dish! And now for the star of the show... the soba flight! Definitely would recommend trying Tanakaya if you haven't already! I'd definitely come back.

Both of their menus are very similar, and you will see some same dishes across the two. We started off with their crispy kara-age (fried chicken) which is best eaten with a squeeze of lemon and dunked into their yummy garlicky, oniony dipping sauce. Always best eaten right out of the fryer, piping hot. You just can't go wrong with their most popular app. For starters, we also got their blistered shishito peppers, which comes with bonito flakes dancing from the steam of the peppers. If you've never had shishito peppers before, they are very very mild in spiciness, but be warned you'll always have one extra spicy pepper when you least expect it! For our main, we got the spicy beef udon, which comes simmering in its metal bowl atop a fire, keeping it hot as you enjoy it slowly. The red broth has a nice kick of heat, but not so spicy that it will irritate your throat. The slices of beef are oh so tender and flavorful. The rich broth clings on perfectly to the thick udon noodles. If you're sharing, plan on getting extra udon noodles to soak up all that delicious broth! At the end, drop the cheesy rice ball into the broth to make a congee, soaking up more of that delicious broth. The staff is welcoming and friendly, checking in at the right times and even offering bibs to help with the splashes of broth if you're a messy eater!

I had expected the business to be in a more high volume area, however a benefit of their corner spot was that the parking lot had plenty of spaces. There's no indoor seating, but outdoor tables were set up along the north and east perimeters of the building. I was by myself at this latest visit, and it was close to the end of the day so the inventory was quite depleted. There was no line at all which was not a surprise. The famous Strawberry Croissants and prepackaged items were on refrigerated display to the left when you walked in. As the service counter rounded a corner, there were more fresh baked goods on display before you reached a register. Across from the registers were shelves containing bags of fresh bread products. I bought a Strawberry Croissant, a Sticky Bun, a Ham and Cheese Croissant, and an Apple Croissant. The quality of the pastry dough was very good, and I could see why the Strawberry Croissant was a favorite with the customers. The croissants were light and flakey, and the powdered sugar added a delicate topping to the strawberry version. If I were to rate on just the Strawberry Croissant, then it would be five stars. My overall rating was downgraded because of the customer traffic flow. The lines can be optimized so that if you wanted to buy a six-pack of the Strawberry Croissants and/or anything prepackaged, then a separate queue should be arranged for those customers. The cafeteria trays were of limited use if you were not getting a large number of items. As you advanced in the queue, other products had to be requested from a worker behind the counter and then those were not placed on the tray. Ultimately, I think they can configure the operation to more efficiently handle the higher volume periods of the day.

Expectations may have been a bit high due to the popularity and good word about Hako, but I…read moreregularly am on the hunt for good Japanese katsu and curry, so have tried some pretty good katsu in my days. First off, it's a pretty great value. You get a set meal for a very good price these days, since the katsu meals come with their homemade katsu sauce (tastes like a slightly sweet and sour peanut satay), cabbage salad, rice, miso soup, and pickles. If you're looking for value only, this is great. Even the appetizers and sushi rolls are reasonable. I like that you can add on extra curry or some pieces of sushi or gyoza with your katsu or udon meal, and can add more than one. We saw a lot of takeout orders going out, though you don't get the soup. - Agedashi Tofu A light, popcorn crisp fry with sturdy cubes of tofu with enough dashi to cover them all. Respectable appetizer if you like tofu. All the pieces are very hot inside. - Hako Tonkatsu The pork cutlet is pounded so flat and enormous. I added a side of mild curry, which tasted like a good normal Japanese curry, and the additional gyoza were standard grocery filling (seemed to have more of a baked than fried texture on the skin). The nutty satay-like sauce went well with the katsu, but the curry was better. The rice was good and fluffy, and the pickles added an acidic balance. The miso soup was on the salty side. I liked how light and refreshing the cabbage salad was, though I prefer other dressings over this Thousand Island-like creamy one. The katsu itself was a bit disappointing, as it was devoid of moisture and the crisp could have been better. - Chicken Katsu The chicken was slightly better than the pork, as it retained a little more moisture and was just a bit more tender. However, all other aspects were the same. We tried the spicy curry for this plate, and it had the same taste as the regular curry, but with a bite. If you like pain more than taste when you eat spicy foods, I guess that'd be why you choose the spicy here. Considering it took nearly an hour for us to get a table on a random weekday night (seated close to 8pm), I definitely was expecting the food to taste much better. The tables are situated very close to each other, too, so you'll probably have a neighbor within your elbow space. It's not even a contender for a majority of katsu places in NorCal or Hawaii. But if you're in the area and have a craving and want a lot of food for the price, it's fine. If you have leftovers, they will give you an extra new side of their sauce, which is sweet.
