I've been a customer of this California Sun location for many years and thought it was time to share my review and some love! I'm honestly not sure how there are one or two star reviews here. In all the years I've frequented, I've never had a bad experience! I've seen this business move from a tanning only place to many additional spa services and I love it! I have the All Access membership which is way worth the price for everything that's included. I love all the services here! My favs are the Infrared Trim pod which is especially great on my knee that had surgery and my joints because I'm kinda old lol. I also love the dry water massage bed and zero gravity massage chair, both are super relaxing and great to use when I'm waiting for a particular tanning bed or the trim pod. They also have Halotherapy (salt sauna), red light therapy and airbrush tanning. I've used all the services! I find all the ladies so very helpful and knowledgeable. They are all super sweet and friendly and always engage which I appreciate. I also appreciate that I can freeze my account in those few winter months if I choose. So glad I have this near my house and can partake in any of these spa services! read more

In January I bought a (1,000 membership paid in full) to get 14 months. I notice a charge per month of 70.00 so I call my card was used at a California Sun location I've never been to. So I call on CS July 5 th. They tell me they will look into it. So I call my credit card company to get a new card and tell them what happened today I go in and California Sun froze my account for calling my credit card company and telling them to replace my card. I called California Sun number and they told me when my CARD COMPANY closes the charge back case they would reinstate my account. So I'm paid in full since January and your company puts my card on someone else account I call to summit a fraud to get a new card and they freeze my California Sun account. WOW .... I can say that after I get home they call to say I can drive back and had it today .... I lost my trust in this business ( Elk Grove location froze me but Rocklin used my card fraudulently on someone else's account) I never write these negative reviews but today I was pushed to my limit my trust is gone to these locations. Not to mention they have some new red light bed I had asked ( prior to knowing I was froze if I could use it and she said for 100 more a month ‍) So what really is a unlimited membership? read more

Not many options in the area, but this one will do. It's nice and clean which is a BIG plus. Good assortment of tanning beds. Really here for the spray tan machine, which I feel should be upgraded. Im not getting the nicest color (as a spray tan enthusiast I have quiet the experience here). The staff here are what really drive the rating down. Don't get me wrong- super cute and kind girl. They just truly lack any sales experience. EVERY single time I come in (sometimes a few days a week when tanning in beds) they ask me to purchase the same old "deal" tanning lotion they have at the register. I'm in sales and I get it. It's also great that they attempt at every opportunity BUT they need some more training on when and how. When to execute asking for the sale and how to deliver that execution. Typically walking in goes by asking for my name and which bed I want to use - followed by: "this is our best tanning lotion it's on sale today it's the best one". I told one of the gals that I thought the one I had was the best one because that's what they told me the month prior - she asked to see it and shook her head telling me it's not her favorite. The only thing I don't like is how the package setups are...you can pay the price of 2 months for 1 month of tanning OR you can be stuck in a 6 month contract. Just the facts.. I started tanning at CA Sun on EG Florin Rd last week. Today was my 4th visit. The business is clean and well laid out. My previous 3 visits were great, as were the ladies that helped me. I am a disabled senior and walk slowly. But I had been waited on with patience and respect. HOWEVER what a different a day makes. This afternoon I came directly from the gym, where I ride the exercise bike regularly. When I came in, there were 2 customers ahead of me. When I got up to the counter, I was greeted by Alyson. I gave her my name and birthday. Just as I have done on my previous visits. Alyson then asked my for my drivers license to prove my identity. I was surprised but complied. My wallet was in my car, so I hobbled outside and got my ID.. When I returned I questioned why I was asked for an ID. Alyson then stated "we ask everyone for their ID." I said you did NOT ask the customers ahead of me. And I have never been asked for an ID. Nor have I ever seen another customer asked the same. We just state our name & birthdate. After surrendering my driver's license to Alyson, she took almost a minute scrutinizing the computer screen, then another associate stepped in to help her out. After standing for a few minutes, my legs were getting week & my patience was wearing thin. Then, out of frustration for the delay, I told Alyson not to bother. I will take my tanning elsewhere.. If this business asks EVERYONE for an ID, I have NEVER seen it before. When I joined, they did NOT tell me I must show a picture ID each time I tan. Crooks! This place does shady business. I didn't even know they were open after covid 19 until they charged my card. Dispite what they say, I never received an email. I wasn't comfortable going in and explained that to them. I asked for a refund, they said that they couldn't, but could freeze my account for 5 dollars a month. I canceled my membership, didn't use any services and they still charged me. I would give them ZERO stars if I could! read more

If I could give a ZERO I would. I paused my account last year in April 2022 to have brain surgery. In Nov 2022 I lost my bank card and had it replaced. They were not able to charge me the 5.00 a month, I did not receive a letter in the mail or a phone call, just canceled. I went today to unfreeze my acct and only use until Feb 26,2023 because I have to have another brain surgery. Today is the 5th and should have been prorated. I also was VERY clear I have to freeze it again. The manager in the store called corporate. The 5.00 I paid a month since last April would not be applied today, I also had to pay a 30.00 annual charge for less than three weeks before freezing again for having brain surgery! Also, 51.00. So 81.00 for a 59.99 a month top tier package. They would not work with me, we're NOT accommodating in anyway. This was the Elk Grove location near Calvine. NONE of this was said to me before I swiped my card for 55.00. I was confused and then started asking questions. There were three other customers in the waiting area listening to all of this and was super embarrassing.Two of them were thankfully agreeing with me and speaking up also agreeing what bad business this is. I will never go back and will tell everyone I can what HORRIBLE customer service and bad business this is. The manager had the corporate guy on speaker and he could hear everything being said and did nothing besides remove the 30.00 in fee's I was charged for them not able to charge my card when it was replaced. If the two ladies that were in there today are reading this, I very much appreciate your support and nice words. Personally I love Cal Sun and always have!!!! Came to this location and what a joke the girl working has no idea what she's doing. I use to work for Cal sun as a manger so I no the expectation and how things are suppose to be handled. She could not explain the EFT form. She told me go head and sign it just talks about all that good stuff?? What's all that good stuff mean.??? Or that she left another customer in the versa without it spraying and didn't even bother to check on her. I know how hard it is at times and how busy it gets.. but she needs more training or needs someone here with her to help. My bed was also not properly cleaned. Positive: This location has an ultimate bed. It is much newer than the ultimate at the Howe location. Neither Laguna nor Natomas have ultimate beds. Negative: As usual, customer service is hit or miss. Just today I walked in and neither of the two girls greeted me even though I was the only customer in the store. I have been going here for yearrrrrrs and it's really gone downhil. The beds will only be cleaned on the bottom and the top will be half cleaned or not at all. When I've gotten in a few times once the lights come on you can see how bad it really is and it's gross. That's peoples sweat all on the top and the thought of it touching you is gross. When I have noticed it dirty and asked to have it clean they will go back there and clean it and then I go in and it's still dirty. I feel like they think I'm being picky and rude when I point it out because they roll their eyes and their body language shows. Its really disappointing because they used to be amazing. Since hiring Katherine and William the beds have never been cleaner!!!! When I see these two here I don't ever have to worry about my beds being even the slightest dirty. Please know that these two are valuable employees and something needs to be done for these two personally. These are two great employees!!! read more

Very disappointed tonight! For the most part I have been pleased with the service and quality of beds. Though tonight disgusted me. First I walked in and asked to use one of my extremes. The dark haired girl was helping me and said no problem the bed still had 5 more minutes on it. I said okay perfect can I use the massage chair for ten minutes till the bed is done and cleaned she said sure. Everything was fine.... After I walked to the lobby to find, the blonde girl just roomed someone in the extreme bed yet when she knew someone was waiting for it. I was calm and said okay well I'm not gonna wait again can I just use the regular bed. She said you can do the ultimate which is one step lower then the extreme. I said fine I just don't want to wait any longer. I get into the room and there were smear marks on the hood of the bed. She proceeded to tell me that's in between the cracks. No it wasn't, I've worked in a tanning salon previous for a long while and she didn't not clean the bed. Though I was nice didn't say anything. Also, I get out from tanning and my legs were itchy and burning, I knew the bed was also not cleaned because the person in front of me used a tingle lotion in which I hate! So I was left with red splotches and itchiness for the next 45 mins. I told the girls when I walked out that I was very displeased and they continued to deny what happened. Moved to Elk Grove 2 years ago and wanted to find a tanning salon. This place was closer to my house so I decided to try it out. I like the location and the bed options however it's been 2 years and the owners of this place still have not hired appropriate staffing. Every time I come in whether it's morning day night there's a wait because there's only 1 person working. I get it during covid your trying to save money and reduce staff but even before covid this is how it was! Right now Ive been waiting 30 mins to tan and will be told sorry we close at 8 so you can only tan for 10 mins.... Even though I've been here 30 mins ago! It's a nightmare! Someone please open a tanning salon in Elk Grove! Cali sun sucks! I litereally pay for the most expensive package and rarely am I able to use the services because there's no staff to assist customers it's ridiculous! Yes, I used to fake bake a couple of years back. I used to go to a different tanning salon in Laguna, but my friend was in desperate need of a tan and wanted someone to go with. Since this location is about a 5 minute drive for me, this was the place to go and it had just opened up anyways. When my friend and I got there, we were helped by the manager at the front desk. When my friend explained to her that she had never been tanning before, this insanely ORANGE woman just stared at her without saying a word. Finally, my friend had to say, "So what do you suggest?" I think we chose the lowest price with the lowest credits. Their prices were pretty expensive. I tan easily and my friend needed to start tanning in small increments anyway so this was the best choice. We were sold lotion and that was insanely expensive. I think maybe $50 a bottle? I could be wrong. But they assured us that this lotion would produce fast results. For me, it did. But my friend? Not so much. If you have the skin tone where you don't tan easily, the most expensive lotion might not help. You're probably better off with a lower priced bottle. I haven't been back tanning since and will never go back. The girls who worked in here were pretty snooty and almost all of them were orange. I'm better off tanning in my own backyard because then I can at least use a type of lotion that will allow me to have some protection from the rays and still get some color (NOT orange!). read more

As soon as you walk in you are greeted by an employee who will try their best to sell you their most expensive membership plans and try to get you to buy extremely overpriced tanning lotions/products. I opted to go for a budget membership plan that only lets you tan on certain days in their lowest tier tanning beds. Even that was on the very expensive side at $25 a month considering planet fitness is $10 a month with free tanning included with the gym membership. After a couple months of realizing it wasn't worth the money at all I tried to cancel my membership in person before the start of the next month because I had a feeling they wouldn't take over-the-phone cancellations (trademark of a greedy company that tries to squeeze every last penny out of you). My disappoint was immeasurable when I was told that I had to submit a written form to cancel and that I would still be billed for the next month because it was past the 20th which is their cut off. This has been my first and only experience with CA Sun center. I only went to this location b/c it was right next door to my gym. I thought what I signed up for was a deal (at that time) $60 for unlimited tanning (the most basic ass bed that frightenly closes completely on you while lying down) until Jan 1 (I bought the package in October). After Jan 1, it becomes $20 a month!! I only went a couple of times and after trying their basic bed (which is a complete waste of $$ compared to other tanning salons) I always PAID to upgrade my bed...so not much of a deal after all. The customer service is so-so, not horrible but not amazing. I do agree with other reviewers that the workers are too Orange. Kinda like the MAC makeup girls at Arden (why the hell would I want you to put makeup on me when you look like an Orangutan?) I've gone to Planet Beach and Maui Tan in Elk Grove many times and really like their options for plans and single tans. Overall, I find CA Sun to be the most expensive. What really irks me is their cancellation policy. I called to cancel now, b/c 1) I never use it and 2) $20/mth is a rip-off, especially for the low-budget ass basic bed. I was informed that I need to WRITE a letter and mail it or drop it off at their headquarters in Roseville. uh okay, why? I should be able to call and cancel any service over the phone or go into that salon's location and cancel. I was told that when I signed up I signed their member services policy which states that in order to cancel, I need to ultimately jump through hoops. It is 12/28 and even though I tried to cancel today, they are charging $20 for the month of January...since that is their policy. Whatever. I was always one of those girls who thought fake-n-baking was ridiculous, that is until I tried it. I spent a summer in Florida, another in southern Cali, another in the Bahamas, and two in Hawaii, the result of each of these trips was no tan but left me looking like a tomato. One of my friends kept telling me I had to try a tanning bed, so one day I finally gave in and tanned at a crappy bed at my gym (no tanning lotion as they didn't explain I needed it). Wanna know what happened? I turned red. So I didn't try it again, that is until this last year when I decided to give it another go at a real tanning company, and it worked I have been going here almost a year and my tan is tan colored. When I take trips now I don't come home miserable and red. I'm so white it can almost be considered see-through even with sunBLOCK I use to burn. As for the location itself, it's clean and the people are almost always friendly (I have been helped a couple times by girls with attitude but it's few and far between, everyone has bad days). The price isn't bad for a plan monthly account, I don't like that they make you sign a contract. They let you put your account on hold in the winter, if your like me and want to be white in the winter that's a huge plus. Where they get you is on the upgrades and lotion. A far as the upgrades go they always have specials going and I just wait for them. I don't buy lotion here I get it online or at Ulta for a quarter of the price. read more

Okay... I've been a customer(loyal customer) since 2013. Up until recently I've been having issues every. Single. Time. I come in. It's something new. Whether I come in to order something and when I come in to claim my stuff, all of a sudden there's nothing on my account saying I paid for it. I cancel my membership and I come in to claim the very last thing I have on my account since I've already paid for it. And the front employee Keegan(who was very helpful and was just doing her job) told me that there was again, nothing on my account. I was expecting something to come up like this when I came in. It was an easy fix. She called corporate. That's fine. Then tells me I have a "ledger amount" of $15. How can that be? I paid off my balance and already canceled my account. There's nothing to be paid. I was just here a few weeks ago, why didn't anyone tell me then? I had to pay off my account to cancel my account. This $15, is something I know nothing about. She was able to call corporate again and have them lower it to only $5. Thank you but I shouldn't have to pay a penny because I already canceled my account. She stated it was from my "stay and save" amount that added up. I'm sorry but I canceled my account almost 2 months ago and literally 4 days ago I had to get a new debit card so none of this makes sense to me. So.. yes. I'm really disappointed and annoyed by my experience today! I purchased the top membership to experience top service. Honestly it's really not about the money, but I get really irritated, when I pay for something and I end up burnt like a lobster and I'm in feverish pain. I haven't been going to places for a while, so I'm not used to having my guards up! How is it possible, that with all the training and common sense one should have working and operating these tanning beds, I had to experience the worst sunburn of my life. I have purchase everything I was recommended to purchase and I have mentioned my sensitivity being new to tanning. I was also trusting that the computer and my account would indicate that I have only tanned in a tanning bed twice sine I bought my membership. I'm definitely concerned about my skin, I'm going to peel, look horrendous and feel like a fool for trusting someone behind the counter with my skin and health. This is not a grocery bagging job, you are dealing with another person's skin and body. You should take this job more seriously. I'm afraid to go back, and if I get the same staff member again I'll make sure I let someone know to get her trained again. This was not my first experience with her. The spray tanning I started with at my first time, had been a guessing game, no barrier lotion, or feet covers. Not to mention my hands were orange for two days. I just figured, I choose my battles. Went in with a family member and they paid for 3 months worth of membership for me and now they are saying I owe more money even though I canceled prior to the end of the payment and they still charged my credit card and refuse to do a refund because they say "the company does not issue refunds" I will never step foot in one of these places again. Unfortunately, I am a slave to this establishment. The only reason I stay is because it is literally 2 minutes away from my house and the stand up bed gives me the color I desire in the least amount of time possible. That is.....IF they have enough attendants/employees to help you. I used to consistently come in around the 5 pm hour, in the Springtime, only to wait 30 minutes just to have a perky, 90lb dumb blond come help with a fake-ass "hi....I can't WAIT to be of assistance" smile and blank look on her face. Now, I come in at 8:50. Pm...that is. This place is an EEO lawsuit waiting to happen. Previously they would only hire super tanned (probably a requirement), 20 year old, 100 lb, dumb blonds -who would be gone within a week or two of hiring. I get a completely different answer EVERY time I go in and all they want to do is, sell, sell, sell tanning products. I ran into a former employee and she affirmed the fact that the girls will be "let go" if they don't meet their quota. I get that. But when all you hire is a first time jobber who's mommy and daddy have been supporting them....what do you expect? My favorite memory; My BFF and I were getting ready to leave the salon about a year ago and this short, blond, laughable at best, pimp daddy pulls up in his white Porshe (911?) and proceeds to saunter, SAUNTER through the place like he owns it (he did) in some completely metro-sexual shiney top and expensive jeans with those squared off slippers to make his feet look long......Toothpick in mouth, doing the "white glove" test. My BFF and I were ROLLING at his cockiness and the way the employees just froze. Definitely a HORRIBLE boss! It was fun to watch him though......Sad for his employees. Needless to say, we fell out LAUGHING as we stumbled out the door. Yes, it is an over-priced place, you will NEVER see the same girl twice working, you will get a different answer for your questions EVERY time, and if you enjoy having to say "no thank you", 3 times EACH time you go in, this is the place for you!!! read more

Fairly decent! I've been tanning with this company for years now and even used to work here. With my work schedule, I try to fit in some last minute tans when I'm off, so I would come in within 30 minutes to close to do my usual 12 minute bed, and I'm just a little frustrated after being turned away to tan 20 minutes before they close. As someone who used to work here and knows, if someone walks in even a minute before they close, you are obligated to let them tan. And I even brought that up considering the time left before close and they said they already started closing and their systems were offline. And I know it's just because they already started closing. Like I said, I used to work here and I know how it is, you want to get out early as possible. I guess part of it was me walking in a little close to close, but 20 minutes? Just kind of frustrating ): and lately i go in, the beds could be cleaned a little better. It grosses me out stepping foot into a bed and still seeing smears on the top of the inside of the bed from someone who tanned prior to me. I shouldn't have to clean my own bed. I love coming here! I tan at both Elk Grove locations but this one is my favorite! Both managers are AMAZING! They are so cute and are always so sweet to me. They never disappoint and are always encouraging me to try new beds and lotions without being pushy!! Every time I go in I'm so happy when I see one of them working, even happier if they both are! This review is 100% about their corporate office. Absolutely horrible and worst experience ever!They rang me up for product, told me the total.....I paid the total in full. Then a month later their corporate office started harassing me about how I owe them $12 for an undercharge at the store. It even got to the point of placing my account on hold until it was paid.....all the time I was spending $70/month on their ambassador package. Since I had not started to use the product and probably would not have purchased it for the amount I paid plus $12, I told them I wanted to return it and we would all be good. She advised me that they would not allow a return......it was after 10 days! Are you kidding me! It got to the point of just giving them the $12 and then cancelling my account. The overall experience was horrible and have never been treated so poorly. Did I steal?....NO. I paid exactly what the employee at the store ask me to pay.......and then treated like a criminal trying to steal or pull a fast one on them. They obviously need the $12 dollars more than I do! Separate comment, which is also concerning....both when I first joined and also reactivated my account....within 1 week I had credit card fraud on my bank account. All of the staff have gone above and beyond. They always greet you and their attitude has always been positive! All of my questions have been answered and how to use the beds is always explained. This location gave me the education on tanning times, tanning lotions and types of beds. They have never been pushy either about their products. Excellent customer service!! Clean facility!!
