I came here on a Tuesday late afternoon to get something to go. Of course I looked the menu up on Yelp since I've never been. There are specific foods I cannot eat so I was curious to see what kind of bowls I can have. I walked in and it was empty. However, as I was scoping the place out and taking pictures, a very nice employee came up to me and asked if I've ever been. He was nice enough to explain the type of food they have and my choices. I opted for a pork carnitas bowl atop spinach and greens. I added pico de gallo, avocado, pickled onions, Jack cheese, and a little bit of enchilada sauce. I took this to go. The salad was very good. I found the carnitas a bit salty. But when I mixed the pork along with the rest of the salad, I found it hat it was quite delicious. I was blown away by the service I received. The food was truly disappointing and I really wanted to like this because of the healthy options similar to other establishments with the same type of food. Felt like the meat lacked seasoning majorly. The worker that fixed my food on the assembly line was not very nice either and its one thing to measure the food out precisely but I felt like ai was given the barest of the bare minimum in proteins (Steak & Chicken). They were not busy when we got there and my friend and I both expressed it was our first time there but there was never really a friendly welcoming aspect received in return. I spent nearly $20 for a bowl and fountain drink. If first impressions are the ones to base an experience off of I wouldn't recommend this place; maybe if I decide to punish myself again with poor service I'll come back but there was really no other way to describe how the young lady treated myself and my girl friend. read more

The food is good and the service is relatively fast however if you don't purchase a drink there they do not give you a cup to get water thus forcing you to purchase something to drink. There are plenty of other restaurants just as good in the area that do provide a free cup of water to enjoy with your meal read more

We stopped by because who feels like cooking? Not me.... When we entered the young lady greeted us right away. The restaurant didn't have many people inside and i ordered right away. The young lady who made my bowl was very patient and nice. I ordered the bowl with carnitas. When she was scooping it there was alot of pieces with fat. Ugh. It wasn't appetizing. I wanted the ground beef but it looked like it had sat for a while and was very dry with large chunks of ground beef. Maybe if they make it smaller chunks it'll be more appealing. I got pico, pickled onion, mango salsa, queso, sour cream, beans n rice, lettuce, and fajita veggies. I come here every once in a while and i like their food. But i was a little disappointed this visit. With all the toppings i got it was pretty flavorless and the veggies were mushy. I'm big on texture so once I'm turned off its a wrap. I didn't want to waste my money so i picked out the mushy veggies and tomatoes. It wasn't horrible it just could have been better. I do like all the sauce options they have. They also have a cool hot sauce wall with sauces that are mild to burn your buns off hot. Lol. The prices are pretty reasonable as long as you don't get extras. Their chips were fresh and good. I went to california Tortilla chesapeake,Virginia location today to get a burrito. I told "NAKISHA" the server there i wanted my chicken hot and am ready to wait, she told me it is hot and started making my burrito i trusted her and came home and the chicken was like rubber and not at all freshly made. This is not the first time I am experiencing this,It the same reason why I told her to prepare my food hot and am ready to WAIT. Bad service. Also the Burrito was not packed properly. I ordered the blackened fish tacos. The tacos were well put together but the taste was kind of bland. I would have liked a more intense flavor overall. I liked the mild flavor of the blackened fish paired with the chipotle sour cream. The corn tortillas tasted pretty fresh but I must've missed the slaw. The added cilantro and fresh lime wedge were a nice touch. I ordered pickup so when I got their my order was ready. I wanted to use a coupon I received in the mail. In order to use the coupon I had to make an online account with California Tortilla and re-enter my order several times. I had to park and walk into the restaurant to pickup my order and to my surprise it was conveniently sitting on this separate table for order pickups next to the door. California Tortilla is located just off of Volvo Parkway in the Greebrier Market Center. It is located where Qdoba was before this place opened. With this place being in a shopping mall, there is ample parking available. I have visited this place several times now. My most recent visit here was on March 29, 2021. The setup is very similar to what you would expect at a Moe's or Chipotle for example. You can choose to have a bowl, a burrito, etc. You also get to choose what you want to put in your meal. On each of my visits here, it was a pleasant experience. They have lots of sauces to choose from to put on it. They even have a chipotle version of sour cream. After finishing our creations, it was time to eat, which we did at one of the tables there since it does take a while to come to and from here from Virginia Beach. Every bowl that I have had thus far has been great. You can tell that all the food that they use for it is fresh. We both loved the food here. We have also gotten a side of their cheese dip, which was also really good too. Overall, there have been some good experiences to have here. I will definitely continue to return to this place. Hopefully sometime soon they can add a location in Virginia Beach as well. If you are in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake and looking for a Tex-Mex place like Moe's or Chipotle, skip those places and come here instead. You will definitely see the difference. read more

This spot is much like other build/customize your meal places like Moe's and Chipotle. I came here a few times when they had a limited-time menu item offer. All items on that menu included shrimp. It was delicious. I've never seen shrimp served at Chipotle or Moe's. So that is one thing that makes them stand apart. ALSO, you can get one premium item, such as guac for free. Their guac is definitely different from Chipotle, more big chunks of tomato and onion. Nice place. Stop by for lunch one day. My preference during the pandemic would be to not have patrons dining in the row all along the area where customers are waiting in line to order. It would make customers more comfortable. read more

When it first opened, it was pretty good. But constantly disappointed. Foods always cold. One time didn't even have the protein. Asked me to come back. Like yeah, that's gonna happen. So then my wife didn't have dinner. And only refunded me the next day for that burrito. Another time, it had like 8 lbs of guac. Was just a giant oozy mess. Customer service sucks. Owners suck. Burritos are always cold. Even ordered the new grilled melt. The cheese wasn't even melted nor was the Tortilla browned. And if you order to go, grab napkins and silverware. Round 2 was not a homerun, sadly. We ordered pickup via the app and the order was ready quickly, but we hit a couple of problems that I would have had addressed if I dined in. Husband had a sunset burrito, which was so overstuffed that there was no way to actually eat as a burrito. Tasted good, but a huge mess when he unwrapped it. I've watched this happen at "that other fast casual mex place" and they will remake the burrito no questions asked. My bbq chicken bowl (which weighed a small ton, so no complaints about portions) was half gone (no complaints about taste) when I got a long piece of flexible plastic stuck in my fork. This place is on a great location next to shopping and businesses. The set up is similar to other build your own bowl type restaurants, with a good variety of options. I had a salad/bowl and my husband had a burrito. The food was great. I really wish I could give more stars but the customer service by one associate was not a pleasant one. A lady with pink hair was not having a good morning. She was on the phone while we were waiting next to order. She was pretty upset about someone not being at work that day. It was just her and one other associate working at the time but there wasn't a long line of customers. Her demeanor and responses made me nervous to ask questions or make other selections. I just wanted to get through the line and be done. It was just very uncomfortable. Hopefully her day got better and hopefully in the future if I go again it won't be so intense. read more

Ok I'm from California. Loved my entire life there. Until last week when I moved here to Chesapeake. It's funny they put California in the name but this place is more like a not as good version of Chipotle. I'm still trying to figure out what is Californian about this place. So this is one of my favorite places to go. I'm so mad that it's so far away from where I live, but I always find that it's worth it. Unlike other bowl places each item has a different flavor. Some places that you go the chicken will taste the same, even if it's labeled as a different type. Everything here tastes layered and well thought out. Your customer service for me has always been wonderful. You can tell a lot about a place when it comes to high staff turnover, but that staff has been there for a while. Their prices are also great. California Tortilla's fare is uniformly disgusting and nasty. My office leaves it untouched. This stuff must be cheap. Proteins are rubbery and weird tasting. Guac not tasty. I go to this restaurant occasionally. Everyone has been professional in the past. I stopped today to get taco bowl. The girl at the register was rude and nasty. She was the only person at the register, probably the owner's daughter. Not only was she rude, but she also screamed at me when I asked about an item she forgot. The steak was extremely salty. I never experienced that in the past because I always order the same thing. I see they have a number of negative reviews already. If she doesn't want to be there, she should quit. read more

Placed an order via Uber Eats for a quick delivery while I worked. Food arrived fresh and fast. I went with the Three Tacos (Korean BBQ, Blackened Fish, and Sunset). Each had fresh tasting ingredients that hit the spot. Enjoyed the texture of the jicama slaw in the fish taco. Also ordered a side of chips and guac, which were more on the salty side. This restaurant is my new favorite lunch spot during the week. I have to limit my visits to once a week, so my coworkers don't burn out on it, but I'd eat here almost every day if I could. I try to order something different each time I visit. I find one or two things that I like at most places, but so far, I've loved every dish I've tried here. I'm trying to work my way through the entire menu. The whole place is super clean, and the staff is friendly and attentive. If I feel awkward ordering at a restaurant, I am probably not returning, and I was clueless about the menu on my first visit. But the lady working the counter saved the day. She was super patient and helpful the first time I visited. But she took the time to step us through and make me really comfortable ordering. That goes a long way toward making this my favorite lunch spot. The dishes I've tried have all looked great, but I keep forgetting to take a picture. Disgustingly disappointed. The bowls were half full- imagine half a bowl from Chipotle for the same price- after a mobile order. The blackened chicken was so hard it broke apart into solid pieces when I tried to chew it. The queso just tastes like melted nacho cheese from the Harris Teeter across the street...which, the chips also taste like they are from there as well. The bowl had Mexican rice in it, which crunched as well. We also tried the Mesquite Steak and did not enjoy it.
