My friends and I stopped by 3 Amigos for my post-birthday dinner on a Thursday evening around 6:30pm. The restaurant was clean and I loved the atmosphere. We were seated right away and greeted quickly by our server with chips and salsa, which was a nice start. I ordered a Spicy Strawberry Margarita, but unfortunately it was loaded with diced jalapeños and seeds and it was very sweet. I found myself spitting out seeds after almost every sip, which wasn't pleasant. I asked if they could remove them and thankfully, the server did take care of it for me. I then had to dilute it with water to drink it. For dinner, I ordered the Steak Fajitas Enchiladas, while one friend chose a Soft Shell Beef Taco and rice and another ordered a Kid's Meal (after checking with the server to make sure it was allowed). Our food came out pretty quickly, but there were issues. My friend was given a Hard Shell Taco instead of soft, and she mentioned that the beef didn't taste very good. On the other hand, my Fajitas Enchiladas were actually very good, the steak was tender and flavorful and the rice was great. When the checks came, more problems arose. I was charged for a large margarita without being given any option beforehand. My friend, who had asked for the Kid's Meal, was charged à la carte instead. The server and manager both said she couldn't be charged for a kid's meal, even though the server originally told her she could order one. The manager was polite but only gave her $1 off her bill, which felt like a poor solution. To make matters worse, after this issue our server seemed to have an attitude and never came back to collect our payments, so we had to go to the front to pay. Overall, while I thoroughly enjoyed my food, the service left a lot to be desired. Between the drink, billing issues and attitude, it just wasn't a good experience. Went here on Friday around 5:30 pm for some dinner with my sister. No wait time, quickly seated when we walked in and a couple seconds later we were brought chips and salsa to our table. The ambience was decent and kind of quiet as there were only two other tables of people seated near us at the time. Our waitress was nice and attentive. I ordered the Birria tacos (7/10) with a side of rice and beans (8/10). The tacos and consommé had a good taste and flavor, but I don't feel like there was enough meat or cheese inside. Rice and beans were just regular, nothing crazy. I also decided to try their Seafood dip that came with crab and shrimp in the queso (10/10) it was so good. Didn't try a drink, I ordered a soda, but my sister tried their peach margarita and said it was strong and yummy. I enjoyed my meal here and plan to come back, especially for the seafood dip. To-Go Trouble Turned Totally Delicious I called ahead to place a to-go order from 3 Amigos Mexican Restaurant while running errands, thinking it would be perfect timing to pick it up after grabbing my dog. I ordered the chicken fajitas with a side of rice simple and satisfying or so I thought. When I got home and opened the container, I was pretty disappointed. All the cold toppings (lettuce, cheese, and pico de gallo) were mixed right in with the hot chicken and veggies, which meant everything was wilted, soggy, and melted together. Not the fresh fajita experience I was expecting. I gave them a call to share the issue, and they were very apologetic. They told me they'd make it right, and that I could stop by again for a replacement meal. So, the following week, I went back. It took a bit of explaining when I arrived, but once they understood what happened, they were great about it. I got the same fajita order with rice (no beans), and this time it was absolutely amazing. Everything was separated properly, the chicken was flavorful and tender, and the rice was perfectly cooked. The quality really shined when served the right way. Next time, I'll probably dine in but based on how good the corrected meal was, I would absolutely give 3 Amigos another try. We came for a quick dinner for my friends birthday. When we walked in we were greeted and seated right away. My friend ordered a watermelon margarita with jalapenos. When they brought it instead of using slices of jalapeno they diced it. So every sip she took she had to spit out the seeds and the chunks of jalapeno. She requested the waitress take it back and please remove the jalapenos because she was unaware they would prepare it like that. The waitress was nice and took it back and after that she enjoyed the drink. The chips were warm and fresh and the salsa and dip were ok. My friends got enchiladas and a taco with rice. I asked Naomi our waitress if it was ok for me to order off the kids menu, because due to health issues I couldn't eat a full meal. She kindly said it was fine. I got the kids chimichanga and rice and beans. They gave my friend the wrong taco so they replaced it. I wouldn't recommend the ground beef. It had a off putting taste. Other than that everythng else was fine. The rice and beans were good. Then the bill came. My friend noticed they charged her for the largest drink they had, but it was never mentioned that it came in different sizes. Then my meal was supposed to be the kids meal but instead, they charged me ala carte for each item I got. This is where the problem started. I advised her that she told me it was ok to do. She then said the manager said no. I asked to speak with him. I advised him I didn't think it was right that I was led to believe I'd pay one price but i was charged something completely different. No on told me anything until the bill came. He insisted the kids meal is for 12 and under. Which would have been fine if I hadn't asked first. I explained that was something he should have told his employees. My problem is, it's still the same amount of food wether I'm a child or adult. This was confusing and frustrating. He wasn't willing to charge the $7.99 that I was advised that I'd pay in the beginning. He gave me a $1 off as a courtesy. But I find that to be unprofessional because he could have easily resolved the issue. This wasn't my fault. I was sympathetic with the waitress until she tried to lie and said she advised me. She said nothing until the bill came and I asked about it. After that whole debacle we waited at the table to pay but she never returned. So we then figured we were supposed to pay on the way out. It's kind of confusing because we weren't told anything. The experience wasn't the best because it was a simple fix and a lot of miscommunication. Unfortunately none of us will return. A clean and large establishment, we were greeted with smiles and our orders promptly taken. Well lit inside, but not overly. Tasty complimentary chips, and salsa and white sauce provided. The gift card I won on their IG giveaway covered almost all of the bill except a dollar and some change plus tip. This place has gone downhill since the family that used to own it moved on. The last few times I have eaten here, we have had to wait to get refills and our check. The food is decent, but when I have to look for my server to get my check to leave, it's not worth it. Things just aren't the same since new management. The interior of this place has completely changed and looks plain and not cozy (i.e., the decorations, plates). I have been thinking the quality of the food has gone down and thought it was just me. But I have read other reviews that say the same thing. Last time I ordered online from their website, I paid and got the email confirmation. I went to go pick it up and they said my order never went through. So I waited and the I'm guessing assistant manager kept asking to see my order confirmation and even wanted to take my phone to the back to show the others. I let him, but I do think it's bit ridiculous. He kept telling me they never got the order. In the end they decided to just make my food and give it to me. Today, I placed an order from DoorDash to pick it up. When I picked it up, the server who handed it to me was nice. But then a man, who I'm guess is the owner or manager asked me if I was the person who placed the order. I told him I was and he asked me if I can not order through DoorDash anymore and instead call or place the order online (there is an "ordering fee" when ordering through those options, if anyone is wondering). He said it's because DoorDash takes too much of a portion out of their sale so they basically make nothing off the orders. He said this to me as 3 other servers and the assistant manager (which I mentioned previously) were looking at me as this conversation was happening. Of course I felt awkward, and it's not like the owner/manager said it nicely, so I just said "yeah" to get myself out of there. I just think that was unprofessional and rude? I don't know. Two words: TACO TUESDAY!!! I visited this restaurant with some of my friends for some delicious tacos after someone from fb recommended this place! We walked in and it was a wait which I thought was a good sign. While I waited I ordered a jalapeño margarita! It was delicious, as I typically find the jalapeño marg at other establishments to not be as spicy as I like. We were seated in a booth with a four top table added to the end. The salsa and white sauce was really good! We had to order extra bowls because it went so quickly. As an appetizer I ordered the shrimp stuffed jalapeños. They were good alone and spicy and even better inside of a taco! We all ordered the taco Tuesday special which was beef, steak, or shrimp tacos! I tried all three. 3 Amigos. It's Mexican food that been around for years. I have been coming here for years and the majority of the time the food is good and similar to many of the Mexican restaurants in the area. Chops and salsa. White sauce. I like to get a side of their fresh hot sauce. Sometimes the server will look baffled and point to the bottles on the table but the fresh stuff is so much better. My son loves Mexican food so he will always give it a thumbs up and tell you it's the best meal ever. Depending the day and time it can be rocking busy. No complaints otherwise. read more

The food is delicious, both with its original popular dishes and with various rare Mexican dishes on the menus which makes it even more intriguing. I've had the Molcajete which consists queso fundido, stuffed jalapeños with queso, sausage, shrimp, carne asada, and thin slices of chicken breasts. On the top is an onion, cilantro, and lime. The sides are beans,rice, pico de gallo, sour cream, lettuce, and tortillas, but you will need more tortillas !!! Also the queso fundido with Chorizo and Borracho Pollo which is lit on fire after a shot of tequila (agave) is pored on the chicken, is very delicious. The margaritas are awesome !!! Ranging from a 12, 20, 32, 40, and a 65 ouncer !!!! Yes you are reading correctly !!!! 3 Amigos was our favorite Mex restaurant for MANY years.... We hadn't been in a year or two and decided to give it a try, post-pandemic lockdown tyranny. Dine date and reviewed November 2021. As usual, our party of 4. Two middle aged adults and two kids, ages 12 and 14. We went after church, about Noon. I was expecting them to be busy, but only 2 other tables were running. This was good, because we would get our food faster, as we were all ravinously hungry! Kudos #1. They were generous with the chips and salsa, AND white sauce was included. More and more places don't include white sauce unless you request it. And they happy and quickly refilled our chips and salsas 2 more times during the dine. They already kept our drinks refilled well before the previous drink ran out. Love it. So my wife and I shared a Texas Fajitas for 2. 14yo had the mixed Fajitas for 1. And the 12yo had lunch combo #8, 2 beef tacos and a quesadilla. First, the 12yo inhaled his combo. He was done before we had even got 1/3 of the way into our fajitas. His portion was decent size, he was just hungry! And obviously he loved it. It was the first time our 14yo ordered fajitas. She liked them, ate it all. Lastly, our Texas fajitas for two. It came to the table sizzling and streaming and looking AWESOME! Our two plates of quac salads were good, but literally HALF the usual amount of beans and rice we are used to at any Mex restaurant. A minor disappointment, but no biggie. The meat and veges are the stars.... But upon building our wraps and picking through the platter, we found massive amounts of mostly tomatoes, like 3x the normal amount, to camouflage the starkly tiny amount of beef and chicken. There were only about 6 shrimp, arranged on to p, which appeared adequate, assuming more shrimp, beef, chix under the larger amount of tomatoes and onions. Now don't get me wrong, we love and adore and crave those veges! But they are meant to compliment the meat. Underneath was zero more shrimp, and just a little beef and chicken. Our daughters single portion easily had twice the meat our double-portion, double-priced order had. So literally the last 4 wraps we had was just full of tomatos and onions. Our meats, long gone. The flavors were good! Everything tastes great. But in this new 2021 economy from hell, you need value to be a deal. Who cares how good it is, if you only get a handful of food? Yes our food tasted good and the kid's enjoyed their meals, but the wife and I felt cheated. Disappointed. If they were busy, packed, it would have been more understandable. But they weren't busy at all and could have gone the extra mile to delight their customers, to which I heartily will tip. Will we go back? Yes, but not for awhile. On Thursday the 15th of July, I went to lunch with some of my old friends (I mean some are very old) to 3 Amigos at the cross roads of Centerville Turnpike and Kempsville Road in Virginia Beach. I have eaten at this restaurant many times with my co-workers in the past, but haven't been back for quite awhile until now, because I have never thought of it as authentic Mexican food. I never rated this restaurant in the past because I thought I would never come back. On this day I was telling my friend Kelly the way I normally do reviews. I told her usually I give a restaurant three chances, a.k.a. three strike you're out rule. Just to let you know, I've been around the culinary world for quite some time, especially when it comes to Mexican food. Born and raised in Southern California, I married a wonderful woman who happens to be half Mexican. You might say I have some knowledge about this wonderful food. So this day I ordered the lunch chimichanga, and I was taken back by my waiter when he asked me if I wanted it fried? I had to have him repeat the question again, and again he asked if I wanted the chimichanga fried? I couldn't believe what I heard, a chimichanga is a fried burrito. Strange! When it came to the table I was surprised at how small it was. It was about the size of a enchilada. It was a chimichanga but the smallest one I have ever seen. At this point I realized that this restaurant just committed a food crime. Attention, a normal burrito or chimichanga is about a 10"-12" flour tortilla, this was no larger then a 6" tortilla. Shame, shame, shame! There's their third strike. This restaurant definitely caters to the Taco Bell elite's. I came here based on the past reviews and that it was close to my hotel. Wow, all I can say is this place has such bad service and a very rude hostess. I placed a carry out order for Fajitas Texanas and the Guacamole dip. The new person at the desk was very nice and helpful. While the other girl gave me attitude right from the very beginning. The Fajita had just 2 pieces of shrimp, only a few pieces of chicken and some beef. It was more onions and peppers then meat for a price of $13.99 and I felt like they gave me a vegetarian meal by mistake. When I returned back to my hotel, I realized that they forgot the Guacamole Dip and I called right away. They wanted me to come back or was going to put my name on a board if I can back in at another time. I informed them that I was at a hotel and would not be back, so they can bring it to me. The two hostesses came to the hotel to drop off the Dip and I was amazed to find that it is no bigger then a side dish for .99 it was only 2 oz for $3.49 and this was supposed to be a shared dip. You would have to buy one for each person it was so small. When I challenged the price and the size, I got nothing but attitude again from the same girl. I called the restaurant to speak with Jose Perez, the manager and after being put on hold for several minutes. The same person with the attitude, answered the phone. Would not let me talk to the manager, then said he was not their and they only had a fill-in manager. It took forever for her to even give me the manager's name and I had to ask repeatedly for it. I was told that he would be in the restaurant tomorrow and I will be calling back to speak with him about the attitude and the over priced portions that you are expected to share with others. I would avoid this place at all cost, you can do much better in the area for Mexican Restaurants and will not get the attitude with your meal. Update: I have made a few more calls and the Managers/Owners are not taking my calls. I'm being given the run-around from this restaurant, avoid this place at all costs. read more

We came here with a party of 11 including 5 kids under 6. The experience was very family friendly and the service was good. They brought out chips and salsa right away which was nice. The food was certainly some of the whitest Tex Mex I've had. I mean--I didn't expect much because we were in VA Beach after all but bland is bland. I got the huevos rancheros which was two eggs sitting in beans with two soft tacos on the side...like you were supposed to put it together yourself. I've never seen huevos rancheros prepared like that. I can't complain too much--the lunch specials were super cheap. So while I can't advise on what to order here it's a safe bet if you have a large party or a party with kids. read more

As with (seemingly) every Mexican Restaurant in Virginia Beach, this is another in a long line of very similar offerings. The white sauce, the usual fare, etc... When I have to rate them therefore, I can only rate them on the things they do to stand out just a little bit more than the other places. The one thing they had on their menu, that very few places do; was a mole poblano. One of my favorite sauces out there. While it wasn't the best I've had, it was quite good. Served over chicken and paired with beans and rice. I would've preferred a little more color with my meal though (rice/tomatoes and guac would've been appreciated). Whatever it is, this place has won my heart. For years, my dad has always been on the hunt for a local Mexican restaurant that dishes up really good Mexican cuisine and for as long as I could remember, he'd always take me with him on his mission. Therefore, I can say that I am no stranger to the Mexican restaurants around our area. Personally, this place tops them all. The first time I came here, I was blown away by how extremely friendly our server was. I've been here enough times though to know that the service isn't always amazing but most of the time it is and if it's not, it's still good. For the most part, the staff at 3 amigos is very amiable. What is consistent though is the food. First of all, their complimentary nachos are just out of this world. Most Mexican restaurant service their nachos with white sauce and salsa but this place has the best tasting dip. Their white sauce is extra tangy and their salsa always tastes fresh. My go to order here though? It has to be the fried chimichangas because it is always on point. Not only is it perfectly crispy on the outside but it's always moist and packed full of flavor inside. On top of that, it is served with melted cheese on top, sour cream, and veggies on the side with your choice of rice and beans. Delicious. Absolutely delicious. Last but not least, It always makes me happy that this place is extremely generous with their ingredients while being incredibly affordable. My date ordered Carne Asada last time I came here and he was served this extremely huge piece of steak, beans, rice & a separate plate of veggies and a steaming batch of flour tortillas and it was only $10. I wasn't that hungry that night so I just ordered a single fried chimichanga which they still topped off generously with cheese (I'm a cheese lover so maybe that's why I'm crazy about this place .. Lol) but we both ordered drinks that night (I ordered a medium mango margarita & he ordered one of their mixed drinks called "chi-chi") but our bill only came up to $33 which to me was more than worth it considering how quality & enjoyable our food and drinks were. To be honest, the dining setting here is extremely casual & there's nothing really fancy going on in terms of decor especially when compared to chain Mexican restaurants like Jose Tequila, Plaza Azteca, & Abuelos. This place is very "hole in the wall". It can also be loud here and feel a bit cramped at times but the food is bomb and the service is great and to me, that's what matters. read more

I live down the street from 3 amigos and many of my friends had recommended it to me and I finally had a chance to stop in with a friend. We were greeted and seated right away even though they were busy -- A+ service here! They checked on us multiple times throughout our meal and I never had to ask for a refill of water. We were served the traditional chips and dip that come complimentary at almost every Mexican restaurant in the area, but the white sauce is a lot spicier here than others I've had. Spicy is not a bad thing though! I ordered the Pollo Monterey lunch special and for around $6 it was plenty of food. It came out piping hot, just the way it should! They have great deals for lunch that you can't beat. I also splurged and ordered a peach margarita on the rocks and it was by far the BEST margarita I've had at any Mexican restaurant! I'm usually not a fan of frozen margaritas but my friend let me try her frozen mango margarita and it made me second guess if I really didn't like frozen margaritas! It had a smoothie-like consistency which is different than others I've had that are usually a little bit crunchy and watery. It was absolutely delicious. Should I write anything? My co-workers love this restaurant. LOVE it. We have had new people come onto the staff over the years and everyone seems to like coming here. The staff are very friendly and usually attentive. They readily accommodate our party which has been up to a dozen individuals at times. We are always provided with an adequate amount of chips, salsa and white sauce. This is a good family friendly establishment with a great atmosphere for lunch or dinner. The prices for lunch combos are really good (usually under $10) and you get a whole lot of food for that price which is likely why my colleagues love it. I don't. The only thing I'd really want is dessert. The sopapillas were good once. But I've been disappointed in my order here several times. The chicken is in large chunks in the chicken quesadilla and there is pretty much nothing in it but meat a cheese. Also, I was charged extra for sour cream. I've been ordering chicken quesadilla's at restaurants for years and this is one of the few that I have not found impressive. I'd rather come here but use your own judgement. Do you like Mexican cuisine at a decent price? Crave tons of choices? Try it at least once. My colleagues love it and you might too. read more

I didn't have any expectations for this restaurant when walking in and really did not have much to say about it at all. The two things I did notice are what I based my review on. - tons of fruit flies that were larger so when eating you did a lot of swatting. I am not sure about you but my usual dining experiences do not include these uninvited guests. I understand having these annoying pest at home but don't quite understand how it could be so out of control at a restaurant. - stale chips. read more

This is my parent's and brother's family's favorite Mexican place to eat. If anyone wants Mexican, we end up here. Last week happened to be my nephew's 7th birthday and they're always good at catering to his no-dairy and no-nut allergy restrictions. The prices are reasonable, the food is tasty and served fast. They're known for their very friendly staff that's mostly family and an easily accessible location. Nothing is going to jump out at you in comparison to other Mexican places... other than consistency in food taste and great staff. Happy Birthday to my nephew!! read more

Solid Mexican food. I had the steak chimichangas fajitas... they were flavorful well dressed (not too much sauce, not too little), and came with rice and beans. One thing I really like about this place is their rice is not dry! Very often I visit Mexican restaurants and can't stomach the rice, 3 amigos doesn't disappoint.
