This place is really pleasant for lunch and dinner. I tried their cobb salad which tasted fresh and simple. The avocado was a little dark but it tasted fine. I liked the bacon and the chicken. The salmon was cooked perfectly for dinner and had a nice amount of gnocchi too. I had this twice and both times it was really good! Staff are very nice and the place is quiet and clean (sometimes). Awesome outside dining. Friendly polite and welcoming staff. Located poolside in the Sheraton Hotel. I ordered the walnut crusted salmon that came with asparagus tips and gnocchi in a sauce that stole the show. I think it was a peppercorn sauce but if not , it was similar and tasted awesome on everything. The salmon was a big portion and cooked nicely. The crust was very tasty and well flavored. The garlic mashed potatoes had some chunks of potatoes that were great and made it definitely rustic style If you like gnocchi, you would probably like the ones prepared here. I have not found my love for gnocchi yet, but it looked great. The starter salad was fresh greens, tomatoes and croutons. The blue cheese dressing was pretty standard. I had a glass of Pinot noir and enjoyed the outdoor ambiance. Heat lamps were on, making it a lovely dining experience. One thing to note, is automatic 20% gratuity added to your bill. I was alone and didn't require a lot of attention as much as the groups 5- 8 people around me, and I would gladly have tipped it anyway, but I still like it to be my choice. So we stayed at the Sheraton during our Universal visit and part of our hotel package deal was a $50/day dining credit to their restaurant. So we used the credit to start our day with a nice breakfast. The breakfast was quite good, the prices were decent considering it's conveniently in the hotel and the staff was very friendly and helpful, the dining area is comfortable and clean. We didn't do the $26 buffet since we don't really eat enough to make it worth it. My wife and I were quite happy with Belgian Waffles and a glass of OJ or cup of coffee. The kid enjoyed her kid sized waffles. "We" had an accident with a water glass and the staff was nice enough to get my daughter a fresh serving of waffles... On our last night we ended up having dinner there as well and that was very good. Really my wife and I could have shared the pizza given how large it was and saved some money. Please keep in mind that there is an automatic 20% tip added to your bill which is fine by me since that's my go to easy math tip... and honestly I wish tip would just go away and workers could just enjoy a livable wage without this archaic tipping nonsense. read more

OK, I usually avoid the hotel restaurants because the food is usually average and the prices are typically high but I'm staying at this hotel for four nights and they've been late. There's been both good and bad. The bad: when I met with hotel staff for business someone mentioned that they got a new pizza oven in so I was very intrigued and I had assumed that that their pizzas were Neapolitan style . I ended up ordering one for dinner and was certainly disappointed. It was like a super flat crust, reminiscent of Lunchables. Maybe the pizza oven is a conveyer belt style? Honestly, very disappointing and the worst dishes we ate - we took one side and left the rest. Other than that, everything else was actually REALLY good. We had the vegan gnocchi which was Incredible with the wild mushrooms, my colleague had a rigatoni bolognese, which was very flavorful and we also shared the Mediterranean salad which was sooo good. The dressing had a ton of oregano, the cucumber was crisp and sweet and the caper berries were a briny surprise. We also shared the warm cookie and vanilla ice cream for dessert. All our entrees were right around $20 and a good size; the salad was $14 and well worth it in my opinion. I also had breakfast and got the egg white omelet. It was not great. Had a bite of my coworker's mushroom omelette. Also very average. The menu made everything sound way better than it tastes. Chicken Cobb salad all ingredients are fresh. Shrimp bucatini pasta was kinda salty and too oily, but the shrimp was huge. The pasta seems fresh made but I am not a fan of its texture. I came here with my son and friends during our recent Universal Studios trip and it did not disappoint. I'm so happy we chose the package that included the breakfast buffet. We ate both days of our stay and had a great experience. We enjoyed excellent service in an incredibly beautiful setting. The buffet was plentiful. Day one I enjoyed pancakes, bacon, spinach and mushroom omelette, and fresh fruit. Day two I devoured a yummy cheese blintz, bacon, waffle, zucchini omelette, and fresh fruit. I ordered decaf coffee on both days. The presentation was beautiful and every bite was flavorful. I normally don't eat that much, but it was my vacation and the options made it difficult to choose so I just ate what I wanted. What I noticed was even though I felt full, I didn't feel heavy, and enjoyed good energy both days. For me that means the food was great quality. Honestly, I was full both days and didn't eat again until dinner. My whole party agreed, our next trip we will return and enjoy this amazing buffet breakfast. read more

TL;DR: Decent food, but overpriced. We were mistakenly charged the wrong bill, and there's an automatic 20% service charge even for parties of two. The Truffle fries were tasty but were pretty greasy and expensive ($13). Service: 2/5 We couldn't find our original server when we were ready to pay, so we handed our check and credit card to a different server. After waiting 15 minutes with no sign of our card, we asked the host, and eventually, our server returned confused. It turned out they had charged us another couple's bill and our bill! Their bill was $70 while ours was $39.42! I don't understand how they could charge the wrong bill when our credit card was in our checkbook! I think for the price, it was okay. Pretty filing. Service was not bad. I don't really have much to say, except that the restaurant is pretty pricey. Not many things are within walking distance to eat from the hotel, unless you want to go to Universal City Walk. But then you'd have to shuttle there. We ordered dessert at night and that took forever! We ordered ice cream too, so we can just bring it back to our room. Found out it was just sitting at the bar and they never gave it to us. Do NOT get the breakfast buffet. It's exactly the same food as a Springhill Suites, just in a fancier setting, and it costs $30. I had to carve out a chuck of my long since pre made scrambled eggs. This place is convenient (obviously) but uneven in terms of service and quality. For most kids, it's great. My kiddos liked the pasta with chicken, the desserts, and the breakfast-- both buffet and a la carte. They don't have the price for kids buffet on the menu, which is annoying. It was $15, and includes waffles they will make for the child. Lots of fresh fruit, bacon, cereal, bagels, and small muffins. I wasn't a big fan of the chick pea burger (too mushy, not enough feta), but I liked the oatmeal and breakfast potatoes. The waiters were either very attentive or gone for very long periods of time at dinner. At breakfast they had lots of people, which makes sense. The rib hash at breakfast is chunks of steak, not shredded as I was expecting, so just a head's up. You can also eat upstairs in the bar/lounge area, which is often quieter in the evening. Again, service there is uneven. I really liked Tristan, who was friendly, and just the right amount of attentive. Some of the other servers seemed less experienced and bland. The espresso drinks from the bar in the morning are maybe a bit better, but be careful to check your drink. I asked for a pumpkin chai and I'm pretty sure I was not drinking chai. It seemed more like an espresso drink. If you're headed to an amusement park, it's super convenient to roll out of bed and eat here. Not gourmet, but lots of options, and as others have said, it's not cheap. **Oh, and good luck getting down there on an elevator! You might want a room lower down so you can take the stairs, if stairs work for you. read more

As a hotel restaurant, this place is really expensive. That being said, we had a food voucher and decided to have breakfast here before going to the Universal Studios. The food was pretty tasty and filling. There were also healthier options than what we could've gotten in the park I think. There's a breakfast buffet option that looked like it was decently priced. Service was really nice and quick and they gave me a to go cup to finish my coffee later. Overall, it's a tasty place and a great place to go before the theme park. I had scrambled eggs, potatoes, wheat toast and turkey bacon. Yes they had turkey bacon. I don't eat port so I rarely have breakfast meat but they get 5 stars for having turkey bacon. They also offer a buffet. I'm not a buffet guy at all so we passed on that and ordered from the menu. If you stay at the hotel or are in the area and want some good breakfast. We stumbled upon a great place right inside the Sheraton Universal Hotel, it's called Californias Restaurant. It was my husband's birthday and we decided to stay overnight at the Sheraton Universal and visit Universal Studios with the kids the next day. It was our second visit to the hotel, which is a nice place with great service. The staff is very friendly there. We decided to go down to the restaurant this time instead of ordering room service and I am glad we did. We went with the breakfast buffet. They offered a nice variety of quality food such as croissants, pastries, bagels, scrambled eggs with ham and spinach, scrambled eggs plain, plump sausage, crispy bacon, french toast, hash brown potatoes, hot oatmeal, yogurt, cereal and fresh fruit. The fresh fruit selection was awesome. There was juicy red grapefruit, oranges, blueberries, strawberries, 3 different types of melon and sweet pineapple. We were all pleased with the selection of the buffet, including my 2 kids. The prices were reasonable, it was $21 for adults, $11 for kids and children 5 and under are free. I am a stickler for good service and the service there was excellent. Our server brought a small carafe of hot coffee to the table which I really enjoyed. Our server, Billy was delightful and we found out he has been working there for 32 years. We will definitely plan another visit to the hotel and restaurant in the near future. It was a great way to start my husband's birthday and a full day at the park. read more
