I visited Rouge last weekend to celebrate my friend's birthday. Before this visit, I had been here 4-5 times and always had a great experience, which is why this visit was especially disappointing. The biggest issue was the service. Everything took a very long time, and our server was not particularly welcoming or attentive. Every time we requested assistance with our hookah, we waited around 40-50 minutes for someone to come over. We ordered two hookahs. Unfortunately, one was accidentally knocked over and became unusable. We asked if it would be possible to get a paid refill, but were told the only option was to purchase a completely new hookah at full price, which we did. We then requested a refill for the second hookah because it had lost its flavor. We were told they would first replace the coals and come back later for the refill. While we appreciated not being charged for it in the end, we still wanted the refill because there was no flavor left. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting about an hour before it was finally done. The refill was eventually provided free of charge, which was appreciated, but it did not change the fact that we spent most of the evening waiting for service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What made the delays even more frustrating was that the restaurant was not fully busy. By the end of the evening, our entire section had only our table remaining, yet we were still waiting long periods of time whenever we needed assistance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Another issue was the automatic gratuity policy. Before visiting, we checked the restaurant's website, which stated that a service fee is automatically added for parties of 6 or more. However, the printed menu at the restaurant stated that it applies to parties of 5 or more, which we did not notice at the time. Since we were not satisfied with the service, we had planned to leave only a small tip. Instead, we later realized that an 18% gratuity had already been added to the bill. While this was ultimately our mistake for not noticing the policy in the menu, it was still an unpleasant surprise, especially considering the level of service we received. This place is cute, but pricey. I came on a Tuesday night and it was practically empty, yet the host tried to seat us in the very back corner. When we asked for a better table in the middle (again -- empty), she hesitated and said, "If we get busy, I'll have to move you." That was unnecessary and honestly gave off weird vibes. The ambiance inside is trendy with an island-lounge feel -- definitely nicer than it looks from the outside. The hookah was good, the waffle fries were great, and I enjoyed the burrata salad. So food-wise, no complaints. But when it came time to pay, I was pretty shocked. For a hookah, fries, a salad, and a bottle of water, the total came out to $150 after tip -- which feels insane for a casual hangout. The server brought over a card reader that just asks for a tip, but I was never shown an itemized bill, even though I selected the "print receipt" option. No receipt ever came, and when I asked for one, our server just disappeared. I genuinely don't know how that total was calculated -- and without a breakdown, I couldn't even verify whether gratuity was already included or if I double-tipped. Management should really address this; transparency with billing is basic customer service. Service overall was okay -- friendly at first, but we barely saw anyone after we got our food. I will say, I asked Shay to take a picture of us before we left and she was super sweet and helpful. She kind of saved this place from being rated even lower. Thanks Shay. After waiting about 20 minutes, other drinks were brought to our table, but mine never came. When I asked the server if my order had been forgotten, he responded with a rude and dismissive attitude, saying they were busy and that I would get it "when it is ready, okay !!!!" Being busy doesn't justify that kind of attitude. A simple, respectful response would have been enough. I had a great experience at Rouge! I came with some friends to do hookah after a work event and it was great. We were seated immediately because it wasn't packed. The restaurant has a mixed crowd and we were seated next to a famous influencer my friend recognized. They were timely with bringing out the food and hookah. The section near the DJ stayed open the entire night, so I really don't understand why we couldn't be moved there. The food was amazing and the hookah was great, though I do think $80 is a bit pricey for hookah. The other reason I'm only giving 3 stars is because of the music. From their Instagram stories and my past visit, they usually play fun Arabic, Armenian, and Russian music that people actually get up and dance to. This time it was all house music, which was super boring and killed the vibe. I even asked the DJ to play something different, but he said he wasn't allowed until after 11:30. By then, we were already sobering up and bored we were not going to wait until midnight to hear some normal songs so we left.
