Meh, Cali's is a place I go to occasionally, not enough to say often, but I've been there a few times in the past few months. The friend rice is decent, and the portions are large. The service is friendly and the food comes fast. Plus, the prices are right on point. However, some of the food on the menu is sub-par. I would steer away from the friend chicken wings, and the cream cheese wontons. The plain fried rice that comes with certain entree choices is also very sub par and I would avoid at all costs. The wontons are overy greasy as are the egg rolls (although still relatively tasty). I don't know how else to sum up Cali's other than an ok experience. I'll probably go back for the house fried rice, but it isn't an overall solid menu. read more

If it were possible to give zero stars, I would. To start, we waited nearly half an hour for two orders of takeout pho. They lost our order and weren't at all apologetic when they finally gave it to us. Now, to the pho. It was bad. The broth was nearly clear and basically flavorless. For some reason, iceberg lettuce and raw onions accounted for 1/3 of the ingredients. These are not standard ingredients and added nothing to the soup. I honestly could not have been more disappointed by the meal. The only thing that made it semi edible was nearly a tablespoon of sriracha. Pho is supposed to be the best soup in the world, not the disappointment we got from Cali's. Don't go here. read more

Just when I was about to give up all hope of finding an acceptable Chinese (Vietnamese, it's all the same to me) place that delivers, I stumbled upon Cali's, whose website is a Myspace page. Go check it out, they have a Vietnamese version of "Endless Love" playing!! I ordered the Shrimp with vegetables, which was quite good. The sauce was light and not overwhelming, but still quite flavorful over the crisp veggies. I also tried the potstickers, which were exceptional. The entire transaction was great from the person who took my order, the delivery time, and the friendly driver. And the food, of course. Huge fan of their chicken fried rice. Theirs quickly became the bar at which all other restaurants were judged. Basic, sure, but it's important to get the easy staples right. Big portions, and big, quality cuts of chicken breast. And somehow it's even great reheated as leftovers. It's magic. I've also tried a variety of their bubble tea flavors, all great. Blah. I want to love this place as it's in my neighborhood, but the food is made without love -- sometimes it's okay, but most it's just so average to below average that you wonder why you bothered. The wings are greasy, the fried rice is just ok. The egg foo yong is not bad, actually, and the hot and sour soup is okay. Portions are large and cheap. I truly don't understand how anyone could give this place five stars. Sincerely. Because of its location, we probably go/pick up food once a month and it's always "well, it was that or McDonald's" just because we're worn out by whatever we're doing. I've been here several times after moving to Northeast Minneapolis this past summer. And I think it's a really decent place. Little mom and pop restaurant and everyone is super nice. I've had pho, spring rolls, wontons, chicken wings, their noodle salads, fried rice, sautéed lemongrass pork, and bubble teas. I love their bubble tea, it's like any other tea shop or viet restaurants that makes it. The lemongrass dish is super good, but a little salty. So it's a dish to be eaten with rice for sure. The fried rice was okay, not the best, but average. I have never had an issue with the pho, so when I read all these negative comments, I'm surprised by them. It's average, it's not the best I've had but certainly not bad. The noodle salad could use work, I feel like the main meat or what not on it is too saucy. I wish they had the authentic grilled pork or beef most viet places have. The cream cheese wonton are those super tiny ones that you can eat with one bite. It's pretty good, and the wings are like any other fried wing app. Spring rolls have lettuce, rice noodle, bbq pork, and shrimp. I feel like it's okay, but what helps it is the peanut sauce. Overall I do recommend the food here from what I've tried. I wouldn't be able to tell everyone about the rest of the menu quite yet. I was craving a banh mi and bubble tea, and I hoped Cali's would do the trick. When I walked in, a very friendly server handed me a takeout menu; I found the bubble tea right away, but no banh mi anywhere! Denied. So I went with a bowl of pho. My pho experience is sadly limited, though I do hope to change that ASAP. With that caveat in mind, I really enjoyed the pho at Cali's. Huge portions, nicely spicy, and quite satisfying. This will be at least two meals for me (probably three), and it only cost about $7. The bubble tea, however... no. This is not bubble tea. I think I've been spoiled with my every-other-day boba habit. I ordered mango bubble tea... It didn't taste like mango at all. It tasted like... Captain Crunch, believe it or not. That's not such a bad thing, right? I was totally willing to forgive and forget, until one of the awful boba made its way up my straw. Yeeeccchhh. The ones on top were overly soft, almost mushy; the ones at the bottom of the cup were tough and doughy. As our friend Alton would say, *not* Good Eats. Disgusting! I ordered here a couple years ago & it was decent. Today it was HORRIBLE! The egg foo young sat in gravy WATER. It was literally gravy water, not gravy, which is what I look forward too....The chicken pieces on top were rubber. I'm not kidding guys, it's bad. We ordered hot and sour soup, spring rolls, and a lo mein-ish dish. Everything was pretty mediocre. I was disappointed in the noodles - they just didn't have any flavor. The spring rolls were all lettuce and zero taste. We ordered take out and the service was fast and super friendly. The total was pretty cheap too. I had the pho with meatballs which was really good! The broth was a little watery to my liking, I like it dark and flavorful but overall was really good! I'm glad since I crave pho and quangs is a nice drive to get to! I also had spring rolls which overall were 3 stars and the only reason why it wasn't higher was they skimped on pork, it was a very loose roll and also they used iceberg lettuce for a majority of the roll which confused me a little. Oh no... Sooooo disappointed! The shrimp spring rolls were yellow shredded iceberg lettuce (yuck), noodle & shrimp. The peanut sauce was a weird sweet brown sauce that didn't have any peanut taste. My main meal was the Chicken with Pineapple... Basically it was chicken slices with bland canned brown gravy. It did have nice pieces canned pineapple... I had a guest from out of town that I talked up the eggrolls to and he did not believe me until he tried them. He is also now ruined for eggrolls anywhere else. Cali's is the best. We go there often. First off, the pho is amazing. Otherwise we have the wontons, pot stickers, and wings. If you want something extra, they have bubble tea as well, which is a special treat. And, for those that are looking for gluten-free options, they have a large selection of choices. We were aiming for Emily's Lebanese Deli and, to our chagrin, discovered it is closed on Tuesdays. Whoops. On a whim, I went to my nav system and looked for restaurants near Emily's. We like Vietnamese and decided to check it out. My companion enjoyed the grilled pork lunch special - two very thin slices of marinated pork, with fried rice and an egg roll. I opted for the pho with the sliced beef. The broth was flavorful, the beef was tender, and the appropriate garnishments were first at the table: cilantro, lime, bean sprouts, lettuce. Chili sauce in a squeeze bottle on the table. The owner was very friendly and cordial and we laughed when we discovered that we live about 4 blocks from each other in Burnsville! That was pretty funny. We look forward to a return trip to check out their chicken with lemongrass. You should go. -Bubbles read more

My food showed up about 20 minutes after ordering, which was the only thing this place had going for it. The food was heavily salted without having much other flavor and none of the ingredients seemed fresh (which probably explains why my food was delivered so quickly). I stopped by Cali's for a quick lunch. I was hungry, Pho always hits the spot, and with mixed reviews I decided to give it a try and decide for myself. The service was excellent, and my Pho arrived quickly. I squeezed the lime (I usually ask for extra) added the toppings and took my first sip.. it was the worst Pho I have ever had. It was sweet, not a hint of sweetness, no, cloyingly sweet! Even with extra lime and sriracha I wasn't able ot mask the sweet flavor. I tried to eat the noodles, and kept getting some dried out bites. I was hugely disappointed by it, and needless to say, I'll never go back there again for Pho. read more

Satisfactory for being the closest Vietnamese joint to my house. Their Pho was pretty tasty. Rich broth, the noodles were al dente, and the beef was tender. This one did not come with basil which is my favorite topping, but whatevs. Also no crushed chilies. The inside is kinda cruddy, but their panel window room is rather interesting with all the fake vines crawling up the walls. The staff did not where any kind of uniform. The wontons look like chips, with the minimal amount of cream cheese. I literally had more eggroll than meat. Big pile of rice and no meat. Our total order was about $27 for two people. I didn't like the pad Thai so the services offer me another dish and I order curry but the curry didn't taste good the vegetables was cut so big that can't even chew.
