My thoughts on Callahans over the years since they will be closing for good in a few short weeks. I've NEVER had a bad meal there. Their meals over Whelm the plate with huge flavor and consistency. My favorite dish is their Beef Liver and Onions. It comes so juicy and flavorful with mashed potatoes and gravy. Better than I can make so I just go to Callahans! I've had so many different combinations of their breakfast menu it's hard to pick the best one since ALL their breakfast menu items are fantastic. In conclusion I wish to thank Callahans for all those years of great food and friendly wait staff. YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED!!!! read more

Not good service and food was poor I would not go there ever again do not go there ever!

I am not from Elkhart IN but I wanted to get some breakfast. The restaurant is large, clean and a bit outdated but that is ok because my breakfast was really good! Our server was very friendly. We did not wait long for our food. My egg scramble was huge and I had tons of leftovers. I love that the potatoes are real potatoes and not basic frozen hash browns. Big portions, quality food with reasonable prices. When I am in town again, I will be back! read more

If you frequent diners much then this one is for you. I like diners and this was nice. The food was prepared exactly how I wanted it. The service was quick and my waitress was very nice. The place is a little dated but I seemed clean. The portions are big. I ordered an omelette and a side of sausage and I could not eat it all. And it was very good, just a lot! Huge servings that taste homemade. This is NOT CRACKER BARREL. Dinners come with sides AND a simple dessert. Service from Marisol was fabulous. Great old school restaurant with great prices and service. I came in for breakfast and it was exactly what I was looking for. Got the 1 egg special for $5.99 and coffee for $1.99. It actually came with 2 eggs, optional 2 bacon strips, instead of sausage, 2 pancakes, instead of toast. Also had to get a to-go coffee since it was so good. read more

I have excellent breakfast at a reasonable price always had good service there. I went there for dinner and they have the best liver and onions with mashed potatoes and gravy. They also have great daily specials and I really like their French onion soup. read more

Usually pretty good food. Ate there 1 day ago wasn't impressed. The soup my friend and I ordered were barely warm. I ordered a chicken salad crescent. It was on toasted rye bread. Very bland taste. The French fries tasted like fish...Probably should check fryer grease more often. My daughter's food was okay. Stuffed French toast but can't hardly ruin French toast. The service here was off the chain. Like somehow this lovely lady produced coffee out of thin air instantaneously. She was on top of it! I'm not sure her name but apparently she's been working there for a long time. She was amazing. Unfortunately the food isn't nearly as good. My scramble was sort of like an omelette and a bit over cooked. With significant browning on the eggs. And I'm not sure if it's an Indiana thing, or if they don't have powerful toasters, but the "toast" was basically raw. As in, sliced bread that was sort of heated. Great food, great service and seated 8 of us with no delay on Saturday evening about 6. I enjoyed my fried catfish, but everything was ordered by our group from breakfast skillets (impressive) to the T-Bone special to Chicken Fried steak to BLT (huge) to pork chops. Everyone had more than they needed and nobody complained. Quieter than most restaurants with that much seating, we were prolly the loudest group in there. Not much to look at from the outside but don't let that stop you. Callahan's is comfort food done right. Service is hard to beat and guaranteed you will be called "honey, dear or sweetie". I ate at Callahan's with my fiance today. He had eaten here before, but it was my first time. We were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess who showed us to our table. Behind the hostess was a refrigerator case full of amazing looking cakes and pies. I also love the farm inspired decor. Our waitress was great too. She was friendly and took our order right away. The service was quick as well. I got the BBQ burger with fries and chicken noodle soup, and my fiance got an egg skillet. The food was DELICIOUS, and the portions are HUGE. Neither of us could finish our food. Overall, I highly recommend giving Callahan's a try when you are in Elkhart. I can't wait to eat here again! read more

Our staff was friendly. The food was great. You can tell if a place has good breakfast if I like their pancakes aS I'm picky about them and they had good pancakes. I had a Spanish skillet and my wife had country skillet. Our daughter had Mickey Mouse pancakes. Really good. We ate their for dinner recently and we had turkey and beef manhattans. I've deducted a star due to how cheaply made the French onion soup was. First the broth was okay. The onions were cut into big chunks and weren't carmalized. Now I can forgive those two things... but what I can't is that they don't include melted mozzarella cheese. The cheese is like not putting the cherry on your sundae. My husband & I decided to try this place since it was so close to our hotel. I ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich which came with a pickle, soup & another side of your choice. I chose the salad with their homemade creamy garlic dressing - yum! I decided on the homemade lentil soup over the homemade chicken noodle soup - insanely delicious! I was full after the soup & salad and only took 1 bite of my chicken parm sandwich - it was divine & I took it back to the hotel to eat later. My husband ordered the pork chops with mashed potatoes & a salad. I tasted his pork chops & they were moist & tender. He cleaned his plate & said, "This is my kind of food." I travel through the area at least 8-10 times a year. The there are a lot of chain restaurants right across the toll road. Wow a wonderful experience. The menu is great. My omelet (soft) was perfect. This place is great. Has that comfort food made with love energy. The atmosphere has that mom and pop feeling. The service is always great, they greet you with a smile and the food is always on time. My go to are always the skillet and the ingredients are always fresh and the food is properly seasoned. The portions are also great. You can usually go home with left overs you can have as another meal later on. The price is relatively inexpensive too. Also, don't forget about their baked goods, they usually have some by the cash register and can be ordered during the meal or on your way out. Overall, this place is a nice American comfort food joint just right off the highway, this place has great taste, atmosphere, service, and pricing. read more

Worst food! Walked in at 8:40 pm. Requested Decaf coffee. They said they Worst food! Walked in at 8:40 pm. on a Friday night, Sep. 15, 2023. Requested Decaf coffee. They said they couldn't make it because it was too late. Then, they found that someone made a pot and they served us some, who knows how old. Ordered a turkey dinner. Asked for no dressing. Male server said it comes with the meal and they can't omit it, Just don't eat it. The meal arrived and it looked like they opened a can of cream of chicken soup and dumped it on top. Thick, goopy and flavorless. The stuffing was extra gooey under the shaved turkey and stuck to it like it was never cooked. Went to the restroom at 9:05 pm, floors were sopping wet from being mopped, no signage. Out of sugar free pie and if they had it, they said it was too late to cut a slice to go. Just stopped on our way through town and man do you get a lot of food and it was all great. we got a gyro and open face turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, 2 bows of soup chicken rice and cream of broccoli and salads. we will be stopping here again for sure read more

My dad used to go here when he lived near by. He finally took me here. It's an amazing breakfast place! The first time I came stuffed French toast. The second time I got country fried steak, it's a huge breakfast. I would recommend both. The service was great too. Definitely five stars. read more

The other waitress is rude and disrespectful she won't even bother to give us our food in the first place ! If it wasn't for the cooks to tell her to get our food we would've just got up and left . Came in just before 2pm to pick up a carry out order. The place was packed, but I was pleased to see my order was already bagged & ready to go. I ordered a half order of biscuits & gravy, and two egg meals which each included scrambled eggs, hash browns and your choice of either toast of pancakes. We opted for one of each, plus three orders of bacon. Upon getting home, we had all of our order plus the necessary condiments (butter, syrup, jelly..). Its the food I take umbrage with. Of the 12 slices of bacon we received, maybe only half were edible. The rest was strictly fatty pieces. The eggs had no flavor or seasoning. The B&G tasted almost metallic with little to no sausage pieces throughout. The toast was toast, and the pancakes were average enough. Hashbrowns weren't much better. All in all, not worth what I paid $30 for. Next time I want a crappy lackluster breakfast, I'll stay at home and cook my damn self. read more

I visited this place a few years back when I had to deliver a bus near by, the place was awesome, just had to take another bus down today, I was happy to see them open, I was so hungry, I walked in ask is it seat yourself? The hostess shrugged her shoulders and said you want a menu? So I take the menu and find a seat, sitting in the booth, I notice the same hostess, walking another customer to his seat, with silverware the menu everything that I did not get? Then another person of the wait staff, walks right to his table, asked can I get you a drink? I had to get my own menu and had been sitting long before, with nothing, so I left, I hate to wright this, I would rather spend my my money at the local places, but if its this bad just close down till you can get it together, breaks my heart, but it was far worse than I am posting read more
