Great New Orleans-themed place to visit for quality Cajun favorites. Good thing for me is that it's close to work, so I can come often. Bad thing is that it will put a dent in your wallet. I loved both the shrimp and the oyster po-boys. Their po-boys come in several sizes, I just stick to the small, which is 8" and they cut it in half for you. The oyster po-boy comes with 5 large fried oysters on the small to cover the entire length of bread and seems to be an appropriate meat to bun ratio. The gumbo is pretty good, a little watery and not a very dark roux, but very flavorful. The seafood gumbo comes with shrimp, oysters, crawfish in addition to chicken and sausage. Just the regular frozen fries alone are nothing special, so the debris fries are worth the extra money. Their sweetened tea is really sweet. Service has always been excellent each time I have come. Even with a yelp 10% off check-in offer, I managed to spend nearly $15 for lunch on my most recent visit, so be prepared for a meal that will likely top the $10 mark. read more

I just visited this restaurant today. It's currently located in the same storefront as the Frenchy's Chicken was on the Southwest side of Houston. I was a bit skeptical at first but was very glad my best friend and I gave it a shot. Under the advisement of the woman behind the counter, we both ordered the Shrimp Po-boy and Chicken & Sausage Gumbo lunch special for $9.99. The Shrimp Po-boy's are supposedly very popular here and I can see why! The shrimp was fresh and seasoned perfectly. I asked for spicy tartar sauce on my po-boy and it really brought the sandwich full circle. The gumbo was spicy and flavorful. I only wish they could have used a Cajun Andouille sausage in the gumbo. Also, we only received one package of crackers which tasted a bit stale. The beverages were great. We both had the traditional Southern Sweet Tea with our meal. I wish I had room for dessert. The customer service was nice. They definitely were up to par on the New Orleans ambiance. I felt like I was back in the N.O. enjoying traditional Cajun delights for 45 minutes today. My favorite order is the boiled shrimp, which always seems to be a bargain at "market price," which tends to be $10 for a pound. It has a nice balance of butter and spice, but if you are not a spice person it might be overwhelmingly hot. ' Honestly, I had never had a hot po' boy before getting the roast beef with gravy here, so I don't have much to compare it with but I LOVE their hot roast beef po' boy with gravy! It has a combination of flavors that has to be tasted to understand, but suffice to say the bread holds up nicely to the juiciness of the roast beef and gravy. The sandwiches come with mayo, lettuce, tomato and pickles which I think suits them nicely (although you can have it however you like). Also their salad with grilled chicken is strangely addictive, especially when dressed with their honey mustard dressing. Just came from this God awful place! Had to catch a ride to get there after starving all day. Paid over $20 for a SURF AND TURF POBOY (roast beef, gravy and shrimp) and a gravy and cheese fry. Get home and Poboy is DRY, no gravy, just dry beef. Fries were a regular fry that I HAD TO ADD MY OWN SLICED CHEESE TO and no gravy at all! I call to see what could be done about it. The guy who answers the phone practically told me to starve the rest of the night, put the meal in the fridge and bring it back tomorrow (when I find ANOTHER RIDE) to show proof so he could add the gravy that was missing. Didn't even offer to make the food fresh! Wtf! But he did remember me and the transaction. I will NEVER go back to Calliope's! Waste of time, gas money and MY MONEY! This restaurant is bomb, both locations! Been going here for about 6 years. The wait time is kind of long but it's always worth it because the food is always hot and fresh. The speaker and menu at the W Belfort location makes it so much easier to order. If they would add that feature at the westheimer location it would be so much better. I always get the spicy boiled shrimp and crab legs and the flavor is always so good. The new lemon pepper wings are so bomb! So I'm guilty of just passing by this place for years and never giving it a try. I used to work in the area and kept sticking to the usual Whataburger or Taco Bell for lunch just across the street from them. It took married life, Doordash, and the pandemic for me to come across them again. After looking them up on Google, I realized that this was the same restaurant I used to pass up all the time. I will say that I probably never gave them the light of day back then since their stuff was kinda pricey considering I was a college kid back then and the neighborhood they're in is a tad sketchy, but their food is well worth the money. The interior is pretty modern and clean, too. You can definitely taste the TLC that they put into their cooking. My wife and I are now addicted to their food, and we both agree that their Red Beans and Rice is fire! Their Gumbo is also some of the best I've had. Granted, I'm not from NOLA but my coworker is (one of the best cooks I know) and Calliope's Red Beans and Rice can hold a candle to hers. Its flavorful, peppery, smokey, and hearty. Not to mention the roux is super T H I C C. We've also had their Shrimp, Fried Chicken, and Surf and Turf Po-boys and they are super delicious and loaded. They have the most delicious authentic tasting roast beef po boy sandwiches, with New Orleans style runny brown gravy, perfect for dipping! The prices are reasonable and service is pretty good! Frankly, I have no pictures of the food because I inhale every time we order from this place. I'm from Charleston so Crawfish aren't the most common shellfish we enjoy; however, I fell in love with them thanks to Calliope's. They used to have this lemon pepper seasoning for the crawfish, (Hey @Calliope's...PLEASE BRING IT BACK) that was to die for.
