It's a nice quant restaurant with a sports bar feel. T.V.'s on the wall and bar stool in the back with a more quiet personal looking area going towards the restrooms. Usually this food vendor is really good. The customer service can use a little improvement. I am a regular customer of so many of their dishes. I usually like the Crawfish there, but I have gotten two bad batches over the times I have visited. They were not nice about it when I called. I didn't want my money back, only fresh Crawfish, especially due to the cost per pound. They acted likeI was trying to get something free. . Mine were overcooked and tasted old. First of all this place has great seafood, but I went tonight and when I ordered to dine in and proceeded to go to the back, a young employee tells me "oh the back is closed, we close it at 8" well the young lady didn't tell me when I made my purchase! So trying to accommodate us they allowed us to sit at one of their tables close to the front.. So we sit down to eat our food, at 9:05 the young lady tells my sister and myself that "oh ladies I know you are eating but we close at 9", this was at 9:05 they are trying to clean up and get home and I understand but there were no notices stating this on their door or inside the restaurant.. I googled this place to find somewhere to eat and it had good reviews. I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually a good Cajun restaurant. The food was hot and fresh and the cashier was helpful and patient with me as I tried to decide what to order. I got fried catfish with fries, and the fries reminded me of Popeyes fries which isn't a complaint for me because I like their fries. The set up of the restaurant was very downtown New Orleans. I also got a side of the boudin balls which were okay to me. Price point is also excellent and they have a good clientele flow as well, and they even have crawfish seasoning for you to serve to yourself! Highly recommend. read more

Horrible service, My shrimp platter was cold and soggy after the girl working said they were cooking it and then 2 seconds later handed it to me. The crawfish itself seemed fresh but the spices are not good. then you have to stand at the counter for 20 minutes to get another beverage while your food gets even colder. The food is good. My first experience wasn't too great only because I ordered it on Yelp through Eat 24. I arrived 20 minutes later, and they said they hadn't started my order because Eat24 never called them. I had to wait another 15 minutes to get my food after they acted surprised that I had ordered. It was just annoying. The food is good though. They'll get one more chance because of the food. UPDATE: I have been a couple times since, and the food remains delicious. Unless your taste buds & mines taste two different things the do not get boiled seafood!!!! The boil flavor is watery/nasty. It tastes like something you could experiment & make yourself at home. You go to a restaurant for unique/ yummy flavors not a nasty boil like that sorry Calliope I love y'all !!! But what you need to get is ( whatever size po boy either fried shrimp or crawfish they don't skimp either it's very plentiful on meat ) & get you a little extra spicy tarter it's bomb !!!! Also the restaurant is always clean and spotless !!!! & service is always on point !!!! The Asians up there look like teens & they are all really sweet & wonderful!!! Wish I could give you one half more of a star only reason why a star is taken off is because of the nasty snowcrab/shrimp boil !!! I stopped here for lunch last week, and was very pleased. First off, the customer service was great so that's a big plus for me. Also the portion sizes are pretty NICE and the price is nice too. They have a ton of options but I ordered my usual, fish and shrimp with a salad on the side, everything was pretty good. The salad (if you can call it that) wasn't great, but who orders a fish plate for the salad? Another downside, the tarter sauce in those packs had gone bad, thankfully they included this awesome sauce so I just used that instead. We just ate lunch at their new location, at 12225 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77077 (832-598-2665) and it was amazing. I had the (1) fried catfish, plus (3) shrimp lunch special with coleslaw and fries. Every bite was something to write home about. My husband had the same dish, but had red beans and rice on the side, and was pleased with all. I tasted his red beans and rice, and it was pretty spicy and probably the best I've ever had. We dipped everything with their spicy tartar sauce, which is the perfect condiment for our taste buds. We'll definitely return for more, and cant' wait to taste the gumbo the next time! I was duped into going to this location because i had a good experince at the other place with the same name. Thought it was the same place and they told they own the same one downtown. Now I come to realize the old owner at the original Calliope's changed their name because they are not associated with this one. They are not owned by the same people. This is not the same place as downtown. Today was my 1st visit! Walking in the place was very clean and customer service was good. We ordered a medium fried shrimp po-boy w/ a small chicken & sausage gumbo, 8 wings w/Calliope fried rice. Everything was very tasty, the bread for the po-boy was perfect, not to hard & not to soft. The fried rice was very good it had shrimp, crawfish, & ham in it (never had ham in fried rice). I am super picky about gumbo and not everyone has good gumbo but it was good, not exactly that new orleans gumbo but the flavor was pleasing. There was a really nice lady (customer) that gave me 2 of her boiled crawfish and those were also good. I can't wait to go back to try the boiled spicy snow crabs. read more

**update** this place has absolutely no relation to the Calliope's Po Boy in E. Downtown. They just stole the name & borrowed on the reputation, causing the REAL Calliope's to now change their name to something they can trademark. Shame, shame, shame. I'll have to go back and try them again in order to give them a more objective review, untainted by my love of THE Calliope's Po Boy. Maybe a side-by-side comparison will be in order. A little training could take the customer service up a notch. The food quality seems the same, and the prices might be slightly lower, which is a plus. Service is friendly, but a little too casual, a bit inattentive. A little more effort, eye contact and confident professionalism in the staff would be great. But these minor shortcomings still aren't going to keep me away. I still think the po-boys are great, and the portions are generous. It doesn't look like there is much seating at first, but there is a hallway and smaller room toward the back. The interior is bright and clean. The one thing I don't know is whether this place is BYOB. I know they don't sell alcohol and the original location is BYOB, but the staff had no idea and it didn't seem like the thought of finding out ever occurred to them. Once again, more training and effort would be helpful here. It wasn't crowded on a Friday night, but there was a steady flow of customers. Hopefully this Calliope's does well so that more great food will come to the foodie desert that is this neighborhood. read more

Even tho' i miss the old spot that used to be here, it's a welcome addition to the area. po boys in 4 different sizes (i wanna see someone tackle the XL in one sitting) nice fresh french bread, and other Cajun dishes like chicken, wings, gumbo and the like. since they've recently opened, it's kinda hard to get the vibe of the place, but it's still nicer looking than the old spot, and there's lots of seating. the service was cool too. We usually call in order then pick it up. Louisiana style seafoood so no fish and chips here. What you get is corn battered catfish with fries. Yummy fried oysters, soft shell crabs shrimps and boudin. We usually get the seafood gumbo, it's really good. The location can be improved but I'd rather they stay close by.
