I have come in here multiple times to pick up parts for my boyfriends boats and they have always been very friendly! You know it's bad when they start to recognize you, ha! My boyfriend will call or text their office number with the items they need and they will be ready by the time I get there to pick up. They have amazing customer service and fair prices on the parts they sell. There is even a cute little doggie to run away from you. My experience here was not good at all. Brought the boat in because the tachometer wasn't working properly and the blower kept tripping the breaker. I told them I believed it was a loose connection because the blower was fluctuating in power and the light was dim or off or on at times. It would also trip the breaker. They told me there was nothing wrong with the blower it ran for 2 hours and didn't trip. I told them to look at the light and see that it's fluctuating in brightness and you can hear the blower fluctuating in power. They told me it was working fine even though the light wasn't coming on all the way or would flicker. The tachometer they told me needed to be sent in for repair or replaced. Then they gave me estimates that shocked me almost $5,000 to replace bellows and hoses that I did not have a concern with. Also recommended I get a complete break overhaul for my trailer which was $2,000 to $4,000. They charged me 2 hours of labor. Fixed nothing. Ended up paying about $330 just to get out of there and fix it myself. And I'm not a mechanic! I would not recommend this place at all. read more

I have had my boat to Cal's for regular service and a repair and have always had a good experience. However my last experience made me a customer for life. I had an alarm go off on my outboard as I was loading it on the trailer I brought it in and a few hours later the same day, they called to let me know the problem was fixed. When I got there they explained that the fuel hose had become hard and popped off the connector leading to the tank. They put on new connector fuel line and reattached. However, when I went to pay they did not charge me because I had been in there recently for a fuel issue and they couldn't know for sure that something may have happened to the line while in the shop. Brought our 2 year old pontoon boat to these guys, that we have had problems with since 6 weeks after we purchased it from the crooks at A smaller fishing boat, in Sacramento. WARNING, stay away from that place. Everyone at Cals was awesome from the start. From the gals in the office, to Trevor who lent an ear for about 20 minutes as we brought it in, to Tim who took it out on the water, when they were done, to make sure our baby was 100%, before we got it back. Runs like a champ!!! They kept in contact every day with an update and, even got us in within 2 days, boat back days later. Still able to enjoy the summer. I will never take my boats to anyone else, ever again. I am an avid boater, with many boating friends. They will all know where to take their boats from now on. Love these guys. Went in to get my choke checked out and the fluids changed. Upon dropping off the boat, I was quoted $350. Then I receive an email with a $7000+ quote, more than I bought the boat for. So then I call and say I will just pick up my boat and they proceed to tell me that they have the entire outdrive off and charge me $810 to put it back together. This place, regardless of what they say, is a complete rip off. They will never get my business again and I promise to steer anybody clear of this place that I can. I just bout a new to me boat. Took my boat here to get a computer print out of the outboard. They ran a serial number check also and determined it had a recall that was never addressed so they informed me they can order the parts and get it done quickly. Good service and fair pricing. read more

Cal's Marine Power Center - Boat Repair Near Me - Loomis, California

Cal's Marine is worth the 40 minute drive to Loomis from Sacramento. Their staff is polite, knowledgeable and honest. The shop is clean and well stocked with items every boater needs. I had brought my boat in because I thought the bellows were cracked and leaking but after inspecting the boat Al let me know that the leak was due to a bad transom seal. They ended up having to pull the whole engine and outdrive off (obviously far more expensive than replacing just the bellows) in order to rectify the problem. Though the initial sticker shock of the work took a second to digest, I was comfortable giving them the thumbs up to do the work because it was crystal clear they knew what they were doing and not just trying to upsell me on work. I was actually so impressed with the way they treated me that I asked if they could do a full tune up on the motor since they were pulling the engine anyway. And the price they estimated was incredibly reasonable. The work was done right on time and when I went to pick up the boat I was absolutely blown away with how much work they did and how great the boat looked. Not only did they flawlessly seal the transom and replace the bellows ANDDDDD do the tune up work, these guys also cleaned out my bilge so it looked like new, replaced all my motors pulleys along with countless bolts and fixed issues that they didn't even charge me for (it's a long list of things so I won't bother typing them). Cal's Marine Power Center get's my highest recommendation and has me as a customer for life. You can see a photo of my 4.3L Cobra on this yelp page. Very knowledgeable parts department. Had a new starter in stock and helped me thru putting it in at the lake to save our camping trip!

WARNING. SCAM ARTIST Ask to fix my engine that was dropping rpm and do the maintenance on both motors. He decided to break everything apart including hydraulic steering cylinder, lower gear case (shift rod, prop shaft, etc) when dropping the lower unit dislodge the water tube and blamed it on the water tube not being greased. Refused to cover it under warranty then Revised the estimate that I needed a new prop shaft that it was corroded( they actually make those seals where you can move them in and out For the reason for pitting if it ever happens) total up sell. On the new estimate he covers the water tube that he dislodge from the gasket "under warranty" which is $1300 and replaced with a fake replacement of a new prop shaft.(1300) Maintenance for both motors is $3000. The first time he said wouldn't work on the motor until the battery and electrical is fix. Also wanted to replace fuel lines. He uses the line "safety "as a punch line. I took the boat back because he charges $134 an hour to do simple work that I could do. Nothing in the electrical, battery, or fuel to stop from doing the work on the motors. I had the battery tested(all good) just shined up electrical components and added heat shrinks(nothing there really) fuel lines where re worked with new components which I was happy to do but said the fuel lines were fine to do the work on the motors. Took the boat back to him. That's when he dislodge the water tube and said the big motor needed a new water tube that it was corroded too. Both motors with bad water tubes( he wanted to pull both power heads) 17 hours of labor+ parts then proceeds to tell me that his rate went up to $140 an hour. Also he broke my whole Lower gear case on the little motor down where there was no gears in it and ruined perfectly good seals in doing so. Didnt advise him to do that.Total for the work would be $6700. These are 2015 ETEC with 500 hours. Never fix,replaced or found any issues with the motors and charged me $1100 dollars to break down my motors. I took the boat back with the motors broken apart. Had a mobile mechanic come over who services ETEC and had the big engine maintanance and rpm issue fix and pull the power on the little motor dropped the water tube back in place and did the maintenance on the little motor in 12 hours+parts+mileage =$1800. He is also a master mechanics certified by evinrude. He totally told me that this guy was scamming me and water tubes, prop shaft etc where in great shape. Both motors running top notch. Get a second opinion. read more

BUYER BEWARE! This shop prides itself in taking longer to do the work than the published industry average. At $130 hr., one of the highest marine labor rates in the area, this equals lots of dollars out of your pocket. Their mechanics are experts at adding hundreds or thousands of dollars to your work order AFTER you have already agreed to a price for the initial work. While working very slowly, they seem to find all kinds of extra things that need to be done to your property. They mark up the parts you pay for by 30-45% higher than you can buy them anywhere on the internet and the lady Owner/Manager is very experienced at sweet talking customers when telling them why they need to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars more than initially agreed to. If you like throwing hundred dollar bills into the air, this is the shop for you! read more

We were in a jam and needed a prop puller and she was the first person to not only know what we were asking for but also have one in stock. We were coming from out of town so we were cutting it close to the shops closing time, but because of her assistance we were able to purchase over the phone and pick the product up without holding them up past shop hours. Oh boy where to start? Brought my boat in for a yearly service, trailer brake repair and to repair a gear oil leak that was leaking in my bilge area as well as outside the outdrive area. Next was a phone call stating my outdrive was shot and I needed a new one at the cost of approximately 5K+. Then the next item on the list they told me about was my motor, they said i needed a new one because one of my cylinders had low compression and was not running properly, despite the fact that my motor only has 400 hours on it and they did not even check the compression, but this was another 5K ticket price item, also keeping in mind my boat is 16 years old and only worth about 10K. Then we move on to the trailer issue. I had a simple problem of my electric brakes not working but they told me it was going to cost another 2800-3000 to repair the trailer and, despite replacing the tires just the year prior, I was told I needed new ones. "THE OUTCOME" Took my boat to a different boat shop, they knew right on the spot what the gear oil leak was and stated the only thing that can make gear oil leak into the bildge was a seal in the outdrive so this item was replaced along with the gimple bearing and a couple of other seals, good as new, repair cost approximately 400.00. "NOW THE TRAILER" I asked the second boat shop to take a look at my trailer and they did while it was in the shop and said they found a wire that was shorting out so they replaced it, repair cost less than 150.00. Last but not least, I feel Cals is extremely pricey. It cost me approximately 240.00 for them to tell me i needed a new motor, outdrive and trailer, apparently this took 2 hours to figure out, which makes me question their capability. Last but not least, Cals yearly service, I was told, was approximately 850.00 which is about 200.00 higher than the dealer quote i received and about 400.00 higher than the shop that repaired my boat. Final word about all this? I WILL NEVER EVER take my boat to Cals or recommend Cals to anyone EVER!!!!!! read more

Brought in my boat for an outdrive alignment and through check over. My boat is a 2004 and this had never been done on the Volvo counter-rotating outdrive. I also had them replace impeller, batteries and oil change. They did a great job. They are very conscientious and made sure I was informed all along the way. Cost was very reasonable as well. Halfway through the job, the boots were found to be cracking - so I had those changed as well. Better to spend a few hundred bucks now than a new outdrive later!! They seemed very capable and professional. Test drive out on the lake - all went perfect. I'll definitely be returning to them should I need any more servicing on my boat!! read more

Brought my new boat in for a winterization after its first season, and decided to give Cal's a try after talking to the service advisor on the phone, their assurance that a specific drop off and pick up date could be scheduled (I live out of area) and completed on time, and their one star YELP review. About that review - I'm pretty fastidious with my boat, and welcomed somebody going over it with a critical eye. I also wanted the outdrive pulled and aligned and Cal's Marine brought it up without my having to ask - and it was included in the general winterization estimate. Well, I dropped the boat off yesterday, and picked it up today. I am VERY pleased with the work, attention to detail, and all of the minor things that the technician found - which I was already aware of - and fixed at no extra cost.
