This 1-star review is in response to Levon adorning his waiting/room office with psychotic-pro-Trump propaganda magazines. I guess he wants to shock and offend his customers with his peculiar political sympathies. This 1-star review is NOT an account of the hideous rip-off work he did on my Subaru Outback which had an obvious ignition coil problem (diagnosed and fixed instantly at the Subaru dealership after Levon relieved me of $1,000 on a wild mechanical goose chase, not ever mentioning the ignition coil, and when the problem persisted, he told me he planned to continue on a "transmission" journey, which, as it turns out, had absolutely nothing to do with it.) He also replaced my front brakes, after which I had to return FOUR TIMES due to excruciating squeaking, before he got it right. This review also does not reference the estimate he gave us to fix up my mother-in-law's aging Toyota Avalon for *drumroll* FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS*. The Avalon was fixed up nicely and has been running smoothly for around $2,200 at a different mechanic's shop. P.S. In anticipation of Levon responding with one of his attack dog review responses, my wife and I were loyal, happy, enthusiastic customers, patronizing Calstate for, I'm guessing, 15 years----entrusting him with every car we've owned in our time in Burbank. We told our friends, we told strangers, and our words were true. Levon was a magical, brilliant, resourceful, fair, reasonable, honest mechanic. I don't know what changed-----was business off? Were the bill collectors knocking on the door? All I can say was, he made me feel like he was taking me for a sucker on those last visits. I am not especially mechanically inclined, but I did my homework----online, and I asked 5 different local mechanics, what they thought my car's symptoms indicated, and every one of them instantly said: "It sounds like an ignition coil is failing." Even a guy at JIFFY LUBE. After I got the car fixed properly at the dealership (bye bye $500 more) I returned to Levon and asked him how he could have overlooked a problem so obvious. His response: *pointing to an Audi in his service bay* "You see that Audi? If that car had the missing/jumping symptoms I would check the ignition coil. But I haven't heard about that problem with Subarus." Oh yes you have, on your first day of mechanic's school. Anyway, he can kiss my business goodbye and kiss my rear end with his Trump magazines. read more

Levon is an absolute rockstar, I will certainly be going here for any and all auto repairs I need in the foreseeable future. I initially came in because my car wouldn't start, there appeared to be some sort of an electrical issue that no one was able to diagnose, I kept getting a run around with people telling me it might be a battery issue (even after I got a new battery), so I came in to see Levon at the recommendation of a friend and he was able to diagnose the problem when no one else could. Turned out it was the ignition, he cleaned it out quickly and didn't even charge me for it. I ended up coming back a couple days later since my car was overdue for regular maintenance anyways. The price was very reasonable, he told me what to look out for in the near future as far as future maintenance on the car goes, and when I should get those things looked at. i.e. he wasn't trying to upsell me on anything I didn't need. Aaron and his team are FANTASTIC! Had a flashing engine light and found out that my cylinder 5 injector had failed and needed fixing. They sorted out the problem and gave it a service at the same time. I opened up the hood to find that the whole engine bay had been wiped down and cleaned. I couldn't believe it. Competent, honest, and hardworking car mechanics? In LA? Yeah, pull the other one...but here's Calstate to prove me wrong. I was halfway to work when my car got a serious engine misfire. It's a beat-up Camry with over 160,000 miles on it, so I figured 'this is it,' and limped it to the nearest auto mechanic to have them give me the bad news. The closest place was Calstate, and they had it fixed in less than a day. They discovered the issue (oil-soaked spark plugs), the cause of the oil leak that caused it (leaky caps), then immediately replaced the caps and spark plugs along with replacing the oil to boot. They were regularly in contact with me, covered what they were doing and why, and kept me involved and updated as things progressed. No BS, no trying to up-sell me on expensive upgrades; these guys did good work, for a VERY reasonable price. Here's the wackiest bits of all, though - the Calstate guys went beyond the problem in front of them, to fix issues I didn't even ask them to handle! When I went to pick up the car, the owner told me "so your ignition coils are starting to break, I had a spare on me so I swapped out the worst one, no extra cost." They also noted the ongoing low-pressure tire light in my car, checked the tires to confirm there was a faulty sensor, and checked the tire pressures and found a low-level leak in the right rear tire I'd put up with for years. The Calstate guys checked the tire, better than another shop in Pasadena had, and found a nail and patched it. I paid the $20 for the tire-patch and walked away a very, VERY happy customer. I may live in Pasadena, but if I ever have more car problems I'm driving 15-20 miles to get my car fixed at Calstate again. I can't recommend them highly enough; these guys single-handedly fixed /multiple/ serious issues in my mess of a car, in under a day, all for $400. I started going to Levon at Calstate Auto Repair in 2015. I wrote a review at the time because I was BLOWN AWAY by the amazing service here. That was 9 years ago, and I have to say the service continues to be the BEST SERVICE I HAVE EVER GOTTEN IN ANY INDUSTRY. Levon is the Michelangelo of auto repair and he takes great care with each vehicle to make sure if it leaves his lot, it is safe and dependable. The excellent professionals that work with him there are equally thorough, kind, and invested in the work. I always feel like family when I go there and after 9 years of being a loyal customer I have never had better service... every visit. These guys have spotless integrity, which is why for the last 9 years, I have sent every car-owning friend I have to them - and each of them absolutely loves Levon as well!!! My car refused to start even after I replaced the battery and main relay, so I decided to take it into Calstate and I'm so glad I did! In less than 24 hours Aaron had my fuel pump replaced and my car was working like nothing ever happened! Not only were they fast, they were also kind, have very reasonable rates, and they even washed my car which was such a nice surprise. I'll only ever be going to Calstate for any future car troubles! Every once in a while, you find a professional that you know you will use for life. I'm so glad my co-workers recommended Levon at Calstate Auto, because I'm going to be a customer until the day he retires. He has worked on my 1989 Dodge Dakota for about a year now, replacing all the bushings, repairing the wipers, having the radiator boiled etc. It's not easy repairing a truck built in the age of Disco, but he has kept it running in tip top shape, even fabricating parts when necessary. Last week, the front right fender liner on my 2010 Prius shredded while I was driving on the freeway. I pulled over and used a utility knife to cut it away, because it was dragging on the pavement. I always use North Hollywood Toyota for repairs, so I called them for an estimate. It was going to cost me over $700! Normally, I would just fork over the cash but I've been furloughed due to the Covid since March, so I asked Leon what it would cost. He said less than $300. I wasn't sure if that was for the part or for the labor, but either way it was cheaper than the dealer, who had told me I would need to leave the vehicle for a day. Leon got the part and said it would only take about an hour. It was 100 degrees in Burbank when I left the car at Calstate Auto, so I felt sorry for his crew and went to have lunch at Bob's Big Boy. About an hour later, Leon called to say it was ready. It looks great and the price was $263.97 for parts AND labor! OH MY GOD, why would you go anyplace else? I would "never" recommend a client to this shop. I got charged almost 3k for repairs over the course of 4 visits to only experience that my car still having the same existing issues. So much guess work involved and the customer is always being told to do the testing driving themselves. There's a lack of communication between mechanic and client, as they never would contact me with updates regarding my vehicle. Only after my car was so-called repaired is when they tried to stiff me with a rate that I new nothing about. Stay away from this shop! read more

Not only did they repair my mother's car, but they were very knowledgeable and made sure that the car was safe to drive. Very good service and even better people. This place is well priced and the owner is super helpful and truthful. I had a rejected smog check and went to another mechanic and they quoted me $150 just to figure out what it was. Something about a smoke test. I went to Calstate and they suggested replacing the gas cap $40 and drive it around a while to see if that was it. I got it retested and it past! Since then I've used them for everything from axel fixes to fixing my mom's window. Totally trustworthy! read more

Just had my car serviced here today by Levon. First of all, he's great! Honest and fair. I had a wheel bearing issue w/ my car and it was making a lot of noise. He helped repaired it quickly and now I can drive my car peacefully and noise free! 9/3/2019 Update Someone sideswipe my wife's car and knocked the side mirror off. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this business - Levon is MY GUY!!! I have been going here ever since I moved to LA and came here to fix my grill after hitting a raccoon going 65 on the way back from Tahoe. They hooked it up then and they hooked it up now. Very trustworthy business and they do a great job fixing things the right way!! They also make great recommendations about selling car, insurance, etc. They recommend Mercury insurance since Geico sucks with inspectors - I didn't switch over but that's a nugget for ya. The front wheel bearing on the minivan was making horrible crunching noise as I was on my way to my trip. Called up Levon just before noon time. Got a reasonable price quote (some $200+ dollars) for replacing the wheel baring. He upsold me to also change the front brake pads, machine the rotors, clean the rear brake drum, and fixed a leaking broken clamp that can only be accessible when the vehicle is hoisted up. That comes to some $500+. Levon is not the cheapest, but his price is still reasonable, and he seemed honest to me. He upsold me items that for peace of mind should be good to get done anyway. I can do those items myself but it will take me at least half a day or more and plus needing to buy more tools. During the pandemic period his business is probably slower so I am glad I can support a local small business. I observed I was the only major customer during the time I was waiting. Levon worked on my car him self. By 4pm I was able to get on my trip. I was happy. read more

Levon and Aaron woere amazing and my true Holiday angels. I was in Burbank for a one-day visit. The Route 66 Towing Service recommended Calstate Auto Repair. Thank heaven! Even though it was late in the day these guys knew it was important for me to get to San Diego that night. They prioritized the work, and made sure the hose was properly repaired and road-safe.
