Was thrilled to finally find an honest and helpful mechanic in LA! THANK GOD! I was having some car troubles and this shop is located right by my work. After reading all the great yelp reviews I decided to walk over and check the place out before dropping off my baby there. Levon greeted me as I crossed the garage and headed toward the office. I could tell immediately that this man was sincere and not trying to rip me off. He asked me questions about my car and offered his advice on what the problem could be. He told me to drop it off and without even knowing what the issue was, he assured me it would probably only take 1 work day to fix. The next morning, I dropped my car off at Calstate around 9:45am and walked over to work. Levon took my car in, checked it out with me once again before leaving, and took my number down. Around 2:00pm Levon gave me a call and throughly explained what the problem was. He told me what needed to be done and got my permission to perform the repairs. By 5:00pm my car was ready to go, totally fixed AND Levon went out of his way to completely wash and detail my car!!! I joked with him in the morning that I was embarrassed by how dirty it was and almost went through the wash before heading over just to save myself the embarrassment. It was such a nice surprise walking up to my super clean and perfectly fixed ride! Levon gave me a discount on the labor, showed me the part he took out of car, and reminded me that all of his services come with a 1 year warranty! I couldn't have been more satisfied with the customer service and services performed. This is my new go-to shop and I recommend everyone uses it! Do not recommend! So I sent my car to this shop for a front bumper replacement. At the beginning of discussing the price. I told the owner that I may not have a big budget for the car, and he didn't give me a price for the repair and told me:" if you don't have money, don't waste my time." Take that in. Well, eventually we agreed on a price of $1800, for the new bumper and fender replacement, paint. And fix every other problem for my car. Maybe it's his unprofessionalism, he didn't check anything of my parts. Which didn't exactly match my car. And he did his job which is to paint them and replace them. But now I have this unmatched bumper blocking half of my front lights. Now he knows who exactly is writing this 1 star review. It was a long process that I was only caring about if everything was replaced. So I didn't realize how much this business got out of me and my car. I told the owner to save my original parts of the car but I think he saved one of my Camaro ss front light so that he could sell them on somewhere. Which worth not much but around $200. Even that, they took 4 of my wheel locks on my tire. He got the most out of my car and my pocket. Happy. Maybe it was because I'm a young guy with a nice sport car, but I'm not stupid enough just to let him take so much stuff from me. And now I still need to get a new bumper because he didn't check if everything matches. He might have so much to say to defend himself but good luck with that. This store made me see the most of what's a facade and how greedy and unprofessional a business person can be. Especially for someone who has a nice car. This is the easiest 5 star review to give. My car started having problems and I didn't have a mechanic in California. I found Calstate Auto on Yelp. Despite positive Yelp reviews, deciding on a new mechanic is kind of nerve racking. I'm really happy that I chose Calstate Auto Repair though. I took my car in late afternoon yesterday, and they had it fixed by 9:15 am this morning. The cost seemed extremely fair and they even cleaned up everything under the hood. I am so happy I chose to bring my car to Calstate Auto! I brought it a few months ago to see if they could find what was wrong (it wouldn't start right after filling with gas) but there was no check engine light and they looked at a few things but couldn't find anything so they didn't even charge me for their time! So when the check engine light finally came on I knew where I wanted to take it. Unfortunately I also needed an oil change and I took it to the dealership. They ran a diagnostic and charged me an additional $155!!! The quote they gave me to fix my car was over $500 (but of course that $155 would be put towards it ) I called Calstate right away and the owner gave me a quote and I told them I'd bring it in on the next week. Today, I finally brought it and it ended up being less than half of what the dealership quoted me! Plus he cleaned my air filter!! I love how Levon (I think that's the owners name) will explain what he did and show the part he replaced and where it goes in my car. Levon is incredible! My Honda Civic had it's engine light on and I wanted to get it checked. I called several shops in the area and all of them required I pay $60 - $85 just for an inspection. I called Levon and he told me to bring it in and he'll do it for free. Upon finding out I needed my thermostat replaced, Levon gave me a very, very fair price. Look, I'll be honest -- I've gone on two or three occasions with an issue, the person here will pop the trunk and make a few adjustments, I'll go to pay, and they say "oh, don't worry about it." Don't worry about it?!?! In this day and age? What mechanic is like that!! I'm not a car expert, but they've only been incredibly honest, fair, reliable, and quick. I've never thought about going anywhere else, and when I first found them, they were cheaper than the competition. My sister-in-law needed someone for an alternator issue. My mechanic closed his shop that I had been going to over 20 years and was skeptical about going anywhere else. I found Calstate through yelp and decided to try them out...... and boy was I wrong to come here. I bought my own brakes, oil and filters and Levon agreed to change them. Once I got my car back, my brakes starting making squeaking noises.... so I call Levon and he stated that they only replaced the pads and that my rotors needed to be resurfaced.... I have 2013 Lexus F sport and never had to resurface the rotors with my old mechanic...since I have not resurfaced them before....against my better judgement, I had Calstate resurface the front rotors and reinstall the brake pads. After spending $200+ just for labor at this point... when I got my car back, the squeaking noise did NOT GO AWAY! When I call Calstate back, they stated that I need to replace both rotors! WTF!! So I decided to call Lexus where I bought the brake pads originally,,,, just in case before dropping over $500 for new rotors and the parts guys asked if I replaced the Shims (shims are 2 pcs of metal that prevents squeaking).... I replied that my guy used the one that was on the car previously when changing the pads. So fast forward, I bought new shims... just in case before buying new rotors..... Calstate offered to replace them for free since I kept having to come back.....this is the best part!!!...... As Levon is driving my car onto the lift.... he pops my front driver side tire against the car lift!!..... FML! He takes out the brake pads....... and BEHOLD NO FREAKING SHIMS!!!! WTF! Whoever replaced my pads threw away the shims and pads!! We replace the SHIMS that I purchased and I drove off in my SPARE TIRE and the next morning, I go to Lexus of Glendale. At this point, I have am furious and my car is STILL SQUEAKING!! WTF x 100!! I have my service guy check out the brakes and discovered that not only was the brakes installed UPSIDE DOWN and the SHIMS were also installed INCORRECTLY! HOW IN THE WORLD DID CALSTATE GET SO MANY GOOD REVIEWS?? HOLY HELL!! I bought both front tires because my passenger tire only had 5/32 left to prevent tire pull. I paid close to $1200 and went back to Cal-state and Levon agreed to paid for 1 tire at his cost... not what I paid but what he could of paid which I have no PROOF.....I replaced 2 front tires, resurfaced rotors that did NOT need to be resurfaced, reinstall brake pad and shims, buy new shims and got less than 1/2 of what I had to paid back from Cal-State!! WHAT A NIGHTMARE!! I should of saw all the tell tell signs!! If you go to a mechanic and he fixes cars, offers tires and body work and ask you to leave the car and come back so that you cant see them working on it...... probably not good at what they do. All in all, if you care about your car..... DONT FIX YOUR CAR AT CALSTATE regardless the positive reviews! - Oil and brakes are text book 101 and THEY CANT even do that right!! read more

Looking for a car repair shop is like looking for a pediatrician (I think, I don't have kids, but I assume it's the same). You want someone you can trust and who will care about your car as much as you do. I just moved to CA 4 months ago, so I am starting from scratch, and my friends were useless with their "I know a guy in Venice blah blah." So I checked my trusty Yelp and once again, Yelp wins. Levon IS the guy to see. I went in and my motor mounts were broken, my engine was hanging on by a thread, which caused other issues. He checked the car for other potential hazards, which some people would say, "Oh, he's just jacking the up the price," but that wasn't the case. I have a 10 year old car, so at this point, if something breaks, I could be stranded on the side of the road. He was honest and told me things I needed to fix now and things that could wait. This place is FULL service. They do everything. He didn't just tell me the problem, but showed me them. Let me go under the car so I could see with my own eyeballs the problem. AND THEN. When I registered my car a few weeks later, he put the plates on for us, no charge. At this point, I think when we roll in, he gets a headache, but he doesn't show us. I'm a customer for life. yelp does it again! Thanks to this great web-site, I've found a top-notch mechanic right in my Burbank neighborhood. Based on glowing reviews here and on Angie's List, I entrusted my old Toyota to Levon for some major repairs. What a clean shop this great guy and master mechanic runs! From the minute I started talking to him, Levon earned my trust, and now that my car repairs are done, I can say that my instincts were spot on. I showed him a recommended work sheet that North Hollywood Toyota had given me, and after he checked out the car for a couple of hours, he confirmed that everything on the list needed attention. With the help of the computer in his office, he patiently explained the necessary repairs, showed me pictures of the parts involved and brought me up to speed on why dealerships aren't the right place to take your old car for major mechanical work. His solid information and confidence won me over. Levon's shop and lot were full of cars -- with a Jaguar, a Mercedes, a Subaru, a couple of Toyotas and a variety of other brands on display when I decided to leave mine off. There was a lot of life around the shop: the phone was ringing steadily -- with Levon always handling the calls promptly, and there was light but steady foot traffic. A few people were coming and going picking up their cars and dropping them off. Most were smiling! In a CAR place! Great service at a great price! I've lived in the area for a few years and have tried a number of places for auto repair/work over the years, with varying degrees of satisfaction. Some horrible, some okay. This is the first place I've been to that I was actually truly happy with. I brought it in for a tune-up and they were thorough and got it done in the time they said it would. There was one minor issue that needed to be fixed, and unlike other places, the mechanic insisted on showing me the issue so I could see/hear it for myself. The repair was a reasonable cost and made a noticeable difference in how my car runs. After that repair it was no more upselling, no more "Oh we also found such and such that needs to be replaced..." it was just "thank you have a great day." They misdiagnosed our car, charged over 1500.00, car only worked for an hour. Owner refused to pay us anything back. Our mechanic up north said this mechanic lying about car, after he got diagnosis and repair done and then refused to make good on his work by refunding even a part of charge.
