When ordering a quesadilla, you don't generally go in with crazy high expectations of something outstanding. This one was somehow so packed with flavor that I ordered it every afternoon for lunch, with the exception of once. It was packed with cheese and had a buttery flavorful profile to accompany the salsa and corn/black bean additions. I went with the ceviche once and it was a decent healthier option- but not something I'd come back for. Had I tried that first, I'm not sure this would have been my lunch spot of choice for the last several days. This hotel pool bar is everything you want and more! If you go to actual table service the Bartenders are super friendly, if you lounge by the pool the servers there are so quick and also super nice. We felt like we were at an all-inclusive, but we were in Orlando. We tried some of the food and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the steak sandwich. The renovated and wonderful Caribe Royale! This resort does just about everything well enough that you don't have thoughts of wanting to leave for other adventures nearby in Theme Park land. However, on this May Saturday a few thoughts came into my mind that I will share here. First, the pool staff are very helpful and when asked kindly, will help search for a 2 seats for you when none look to exist. Thank you pool staff! Also, they were constantly folding towels on the chairs and making sure all cups and garbage were picked up from guests. Now comes the source of my concern here. There is indeed what appears to be dedicated service from Calypsos to everyone in the pool area on a lounge chair. You could see waiters carrying several drinks at once and dropping them off one by one to the next person almost as if they all asked for something as the staff walked by. However, no such staff showed up to our area which was on the other side of the pool by the bathrooms. It was nearly 100 degrees that day but no worries, I live in this town! We simply walked back across to the Calypso Pool Bar & Grille to find that the to go line was several folks deep and that they would shun you away if you tried to get a beverage from the bar. If I'm a Bar Manager or even the hotel owner, this is a good thing. I would funnel as much staff as I could to help alleviate the seemingly never ending line of people looking for something to quench their bodies. Nevertheless, not wanting to stand in line forever (I did later to get another bottle of Champaign for a friend), we opted to have lunch and sat at a table. The server was prompt and friendly. We went with the hummus which came with pita and carrots/celery, French fries that came with ketchup, and hot wings. We came here to try it out and was a good experience. Manny the waiter was very good. I had the the pichos pichos which is skewers of beef and chicken with green beans and rice. It was very good and they have a nice sweet tea . Wife had the hummus citron which was very good as well. We clear under umbrellas over tables and the restaurant wasn't too crowded. First time staying the the Caribe Royale and Calypso's Pool Bar & Grille is for sure where we spent most of our time when getting a drink or bite. I will say if I could I would give them 3.5 stars but as we know that isn't an option. I will say drinks are pricy and tips in included when you order as well as other resort fees I believe. My go to drink was the Caly Margarita and is mad which the good stuff which I normally don't use but it was for sure tasty. They were $17 each and when I got 2 the total came to $42. For sure I got the Seared Grouper Sandwich for $21 and comes with locally sourced grouper, lettuce, tomato, homemade Tarragon Aioli, on a Hawaiian Roll. This was actually very good and I really enjoyed it. One of the better grouper sandwiches I have had lately. The fish was perfectly cooked and I really liked the flavor of the Tarragon Aioli and the sweetness of the Hawaiian Roll. We also had the Chicken Tenders. These were pretty bad. They were way over cooked and had no flavor. Our food was hit or miss but they and go to the hits. The Smash Burger also looked very good. It's a resort so it's gonna be pricey so just remember that. read more

The Caribbean jerk chicken wrap was ok but it was my bartender that made my experience 5 stars. Her name was Aisha and she was the life of the party! She had people laughing and her service was top notch. She was so authentic just being herself and having fun. I never felt like she didn't love her job and her customers! She brought the energy up in that place. Of all the bartenders I've encountered in my years, her vibe is unmatched!! Aisha made that atmosphere what it was! Fabian was a really cool bartender as well the few times I spoke with him. I loved this place and the staff. I wasn't crazy over the food, although it was good, it just wasn't anything special or unique, but the people behind the bar, that's what kept me coming back. Thank you Aisha and Fabian for making the Super Bowl so fun!! Keep vibing! P.S. I hope ownership does something to recognize these 2 bartenders because they are the reason I kept coming back and spending a lot of money, especially on all the beer and bourbon I drank. You have to invest in your people and recognize them when customers have experiences as great as mine was. Good people are hard to come by when it comes to recruiting employees nowadays, and these 2 are exceptional!! They deserve some sort of recognition and I would love to hear from ownership that they did something for them, or at least, if anything, they should read them my review, so they can feel good about the impact they have on their customers and can understand the level of appreciation that comes with it. Was in town for a conference and stayed at the Caribe Royale Hotel. We arrived around 7 pm and noticed that the pool bar was crowded and lively. So we decided to check it out and were not disappointed! We asked our server for suggestions on drinks and he suggested the Spicy Pineapple Margarita ($17). It tasted great and was nice and strong. For dinner I had the Havana Steak Sandwich ($20) with a side of fries and an added an extra side salad ($6). The steak was juicy and tender, but needed a little extra something for flavor. But over all was a good meal with good portions. My only complaint was the cost of eating here. For my meal I ended up paying over $50 because it's pricey and they automatically include gratuity as a service charge. Although they were friendly, service was a bit slow because there was a lot of people. Even though it was convenient, the cost did keep us away for the rest of our 3 night stay. read more

While staying at the resort for a work conference, I was able to grab a few evening drinks at this poolside bar and grille; I did not have the opportunity to try any food. My cocktails were delicious; I tried two different ones: the Royale and the TropiCaly. I'm sure they would have been incredibly refreshing if I had them sitting by the pool. While they were delicious, service is incredibly slow here - I am unsure if that is because it is simply such a convenient and popular option for resort guests, due to understaffing, or simply low customer service. Don't expect to get quick service and understand you are paying a premium for poolside options. read more

They description reads 'Jamaican jerk plant based ground protein' but let me just say there was ZERO seasoning but all the oil. With the dish there is a red pepper aioli that is not vegan so I didn't get that I asked for salsa and hot sauce. These were the most bland wraps/tacos I've ever had-oily and no flavor it's actually quite bizarre how awful they were. It's like they didn't even try with their ONE vegan option. I have been here a few times and It's a great environment day or night. I enjoy getting some of those fruity, frozen drinks to drink by the pool, and it's very convenient for a meal where you can eat, relax and enjoy, as a group, or on your own. I have also been here at night. There's a fun social atmosphere here. Also, there are TVs behind the bar to stay updated on whatever game is going on at the time. Plenty of seating under the awning and some additional tables outside of that. However, you may not sit there all night. The staff will ask you to leave as they clean up when the bar closes. No big deal, but some people prefer a "anything goes" environment while on vacation. Often there has been some form of live music when I have been there (during the day). read more

The day staff and the night staff totally different service. During the day the staff was friendly and accommodating. Came here at night not a big crowd sat down right away only person that acknowledged us was the server cleaning table off he came back with menus. Told us he'll see who he can get to help us. We got 2 different serves. The first serve seemed to be more focused on talking to the guy behind us the second server seemed to be ready to go home. I ordered a burger and wings. Food came out burger was well done never asked how I like my burger cooked. Dry patties bland no seasoning hard fries i asked for salt and pepper told the server that my burger had no flavor and that it was dry her response to me was really that's weird and walked off. I tried to eat it but the more I bit into you can taste the dry microwave patties. My suggestion is to retrain your night staff on customer service especially if you're charging your guest to eat at your restaurant. read more

Table scan menu was nice, service & food/drinks were tasty. Pricing was high, our 1st order was a round of drinks for 2 adults & 4 kids & was $50 - just for drinks. Social distancing is promoted, & employees wear masks & there are plexiglass partitions at order stations. They really need more bar servers during peak times, I stood in line for about 20 minutes - in the hot Florida sun, just to place my order. Maybe offer online orders so guests can enjoy their time instead of waiting in line? Also, a server or two poolside would have been nice. I'm hoping this is a temporary situation since my assumption is that there are less guests than usual - although the pool area was FULL, so it seems as if the guests are there, but staffing isn't?? Anyway, we enjoyed the pool area, and were 50/50 with friendly staff at the Calypso. We're local, and we stay at Orlando hotels periodically, so I'd give this hotel another try, but that's only assuming they're altered due to covid, I just hope my assumption is correct. read more

I came once again to this Pool Bar location due to another conference at this hotel. I absolutely love coming here because of the atmosphere of the place. Very laid back...live music...great breeze....and wonderful ambience because it is right in front of the pool and waterfall at the Caribe Royale resort. Seriously what is better than drinking a cold adult beverage after a long hot day....just relaxing and having a great time with others as you watch the waterfall or if you want watch one of the many TVs in the establishment. This poolside restaurant inside the Caribe Royale Hotel is overpriced, slow as molasses, and the food is overwhelmingly mediocre. Beware the added service charge/convenience fee (found in small print on the menu). The one thing I can recommend here are the drinks and the one overworked guy who both mans the register and mixes drinks. I asked the bar tenders if they serviced tables outside right next to the bar and two people said "yes, [theyll] send someone over." We waited. No one came. We walked up to the bar and asked again. Someone said,"we are understaffed and can't service you." So I ended up taking my entire table's order. Got in a long line to order food at the bar. Was told that food would be ready in 15 minutes. One hour and 15 minutes later, our food finally came. Everyone who sat down at the restaurant way after we ordered already received their food and ate and left. Really disappointing. Took two hours to get our food and we had to ask for it. Half of it was wrong. When we asked to speak to the manager, she kept popping her head out to the table but refused to come over, and we received no discounted or comped items. Louis was a great server- not his fault. If you can't host two conferences and hotel guests and serve them properly, you shouldn't host this many people at once. I don't know exactly what happened to the people with the previous reviews but I had a great experience here. I was traveling most of the day and I hadn't eaten anything so I just wanted something to tide me over until dinner. The conch fritters sounded good and they really were! They were served with a slightly spicy orange marmalade. The fritters were crispy and had a lot of flavor. I disagree about their not being any conch in them. Me and my family made a 2023 vacation stay here at the Caribe Royale which houses the Calypso Pool Bar & Grille. We were here for Disney (last time they ever get my money) so most of the initial meal spending was there but as we visited our hotel pool here.... Little by little... we started getting stuff from Calypso's. LET ME TELL YOU.... NOTHING WASN'T SHORT OF AMAZING. Staff was super nice. One bar tender told me she had been there for 24 years and most employees are veteran employees. In short, we ordered a total of 8 menu items and while all 8 were awesome, two of them were extraordinary. By far the best chicken cheese quesadillas I've ever had. The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. The Calypso Pasta was one of the tastiest, perfectly cooked pasta dishes I've ever had. Seasoned perfectly and the sauce consistency was just right. The smash burger wasn't necessarily the best burger I've ever had but it certainly weighted in on the conversation. Wife loves frozen pina coladas and she said they had the best one she's ever had. I agreed. Open covered bar by a large waterfall pool. Clean and super nice staff. I will always try and stay here when coming back to Orlando. Screw Disney! read more

The management of Caribe Royale doesn't pay much attention to this shockingly awful restaurant on their premises. First, the service blows. The young lady who served us was nice enough, but completely overwhelmed and not adequately trained to handle the kind of volume at the bar. On to the food. Appetizer was disappointing. It claimed to be "conch fritters", but it was more akin to moist $11 hush puppies. No meat at all. What a rip off. Please visit your neighbors in Nassau to see what fried conch actually is. Had the carne asada and pina colada chicken sandwich. The ribeye was seasoned nicely and cooked medium as instructed, but it was underwhelming in terms of size. Almost paper thin. The salad had no dressing, and the frijoles necros were runny. The pina colada sandwich was dry as the Sahara and the sweet potato fries were obviously from a frozen bag. Nestled poolside at Caribe Royale, Calypso is a bar/lounge area for quick bites and drinks for hotel guests. Not really worth a special trip to eat here. Has a nice view of the pool, with both high top, couch, and normal chair seating. The food is nicely presented and will pass, especially when you just got off a long flight and just checked in and is dying of starvation. Otherwise, if you can secure transportation there is a wide range of above average restaurants in the area. I was exhausted and didn't feel like Lyft-ing to nearby restaurants and Calypso was a good option. They were understaffed when I was there and food took awhile to come out. Service was spotty. I was there with my co-workers and although we all automatically received separate checks, a "service fee"/gratuity was automatically applied to all our individual checks because we were a "large party." Then by definition any loosely congregation group staying at Caribe for work or a convention would be a "large party", but I digress... So while the food is decent, it's nothing out of this world.
