    chicken and rice
    Julie Anna E.

Haven't been here in at least a year- because unfortunately south side has become unsafe at night. But I used to love this after a night of drinking or just a late night craving. Soo good, so much better than just grabbing any old chinese food or anything similar. The food is great! They stay open crazy hours and sell the food outside sometimes. Big variety and really affordable. I like the chicken, rice, lo mein noodles, crab rangoons, etc. This is a true mom n pop shop- the couple who owns this restaurant is so kind!

Chicken fried rice FIRE!!! Rice pan fried to a perfect soft but crisp to outside.

Man o man, this has been my best meal all weekend since Visiting Pittsburgh! So glad I listened to the reviews. Fresh, flavorful, and an outright GEM!! I am savoring every bite! 10/10!!

Look closely... This is the bottom of my bag after I drove my 2 entrees home. Thank god the bag didn't have any holes!

Ordered pickup yesterday. Called it in at 5:55 and was told it would be 15 minutes. I arrived at 6:15 and stepped up to pay. Then waited, and waited, and waited... It seemed like they don't start actually cooking your food till you get there and pay. There was a couple there that ordered at the window, after me, and received their food over 10 minutes before mine was ready. Then once my food was ready, they hand it to me in a bag that thank god, didn't have a hole in it, because the lo neon sauce was spilled all through out the bag. The food was good, but service & prep was seriously lacking...

You have a great body, but is it worthy of a Webcam? If so, you have a "Cambod." If you're wondering who can hook you up with a Webcam, well... "Ican." What to get: Whatever you fancy. What else to get: Whoever you fancy. Located on E Carson St, the nightlife mecca of Western PA, and the street with the prettiest and bareliest-dressed boys... I mean girls... perhaps anywhere outside Florida and California. And I think the food is actually really good. I have heard from a number of people that this place really sucks. I'm not Cambodian so I don't know what it's supposed to taste like over in Phnom Penh, but I have to say that I found the food to be really good. It's a little pricy but then what else is available at 1 in the morning? There's a reason why there's such a long line here. There's a couple of good Gyros around here (cough Mike & Tony's cough), but if you don't feel like a Gyro, then why not come and try some of this excellent curry-ish deliciousness. The really funny thing about this place is the bathroom. You need a key for it which they will gladly give you - but it's attached to what basically is a lamp post. So you have to drag the lamp-post with you to the bathroom... it's hilarious. So why do people diss it? Not sure what the problem is really. I know what my problem is though. I'm attracted to cooking pots. I mean, I'm Pansexual.

Steamed rice noodles. Reminds me of the viet vermicelli bowl "bun".

Please yelp, let me give them more stars. After Acacia closed, my friend and I were craving food, specifically Asian food. In Pittsburgh, this is tough at 2 am. Luckily, we stumbled across this gem. Since it was late, we had to order at the window, but the employee was so friendly and funny that he left a good indication on how their overall service was. We ended up getting the crab fried rice and the Cambod-Ican beef stew. As an Asian, I was skeptical of the fried rice, but boy am I glad we got it. They used real crab, not imitation crab, and the taste of crab even carried into the rice itself. Mm. As for the beef stew, the first bite was heaven and it wasn't just because I was starving and had a slight amount of liver poison in my system. Just a warning though, it's rather rowdy and we had a few people approach us. Slightly uncomfortable, but expected since it is late night South Side. Overall, good prices and spot on food. 20/10 would go back... but probably during daytime hours.

    The Surf and Turf.

After a fairly perfect introduction to Pittsburgh nightlife, the Surf and Turf pita at Cambod-ican was a proverbial coup de gras. The pita is a torpedo of protein (grilled chicken thigh and elongated crab wonton loaded into a thin pita.) Is it Cambodian? Probably not. Is it delicious? Yes. The chicken shines in this sandwich. Well marinated, smoky, soft yet firm on the bite. Carefully monitored for internal temperature. Its respectfully finished with a sweet teriyaki demi-glaze that will leave your hands a bit sticky. The crab wontons are as good as those can get. They are a conglomerate of imitation crab, breaded filling, and hot cream cheese deep fried in a dense corn meal batter. The bite experience is beautiful. The robust batter crust holds firm until it doesn't. You're left defending your palate against a cascade of creamy, crab flavored bliss. But this is a white flag you'll be happy to wave. The pita was thin, but disappointingly chalky. It did not absorb the greasiness of its contents well. It did not hold them well. It distracted from the quality of the sandwich overall. Replace the underperforming pita with something softer and more absorbent, yet thin, and this would be a five star experience. Cambod-ican is undoubtedly a great choice if you're within a couple miles and want excellent Asian American street food, particularly late in the evenings.

Once at Veg Fest 2024 and once at Grist House on an industry night. Each time I was so excited because I looked them up several times and thought they offered a fabulous menu. Unfortunately, both time the menu was very limited. At the veg fest I ordered the classic chik sandwich. It was served on a bun with vegan mayo, lettuce, pickles, and tomato. I believe it as $15.00. It did not come with any sides, which for the cost I think it should have. The sandwich was good! But the toppings were scarce at best. A single small slice of tomato was the most abundant topping. The mayo was dapped on hardly noticeable, with two pickle chips and the few shreds of lettuce hidden behind the tomato. I still enjoyed the flavor but was disappointed by the execution. The last time was at Grist House which I came specifically so I could eat there again hoping the menu would be expanded. It wasn't. There was the classic chik and then a Sichuan Hot Honee Sammy, also a few sweets. Damn. Their website menu looks killer, yet both times such an abbreviated offering. I went hot honee this time. I loved the spicy sweetness. Very good. This time it was $13.00 and again no sides. For a meal it should come with something. Fries, tots, something! The toppings were more ample this time, but I asked to add onion and was told we don't have onion. Interesting... No onion, Onion Maiden. I still really enjoyed the food and will eat here again I just hope next time the menu closer resembles the website and perhaps they add some sides to it as well.

For our most recent visit, here are my ratings for what we ate: Sushi and Sashimi for 2 - 5 stars - This gorgeous sushi boat contained 10 pieces of chef's choice sushi, 18 pieces of chef's choice sashimi, and 2 rolls--Dragon Roll (eel, cucumber, and avocado) and Volcano Roll (batter-fried mixed fish and avocado with house-special sauce and tobiko/roe). They all tasted delicious. Hibachi Steak - 5 stars - The steak was juicy and flavorful, and it came with fried rice, soup, salad, and two pieces of shrimp. Pad Thai - 5 stars - The rice noodles were cooked well, and I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce and my choice of protein of chicken.

The ginger dressing was very light and zesty and not so much peanut-flavored like you typically get. The miso soup was very rich and savory. As for the entrée, the Bento box had the red curry chicken with vegetables, spring roll with plum sauce, rice, and some sushi. Everything in the box was fresh, quality ingredients. I especially liked the crispy spring roll (not greasy and had great flavor). The sushi didn't miss either. For the red curry, was milder than I was expecting and would have liked a little more pepper spice to it. But it was still pretty good. The hot tea I ordered didn't taste like typical hot tea; something almost earthy and nutty about it, but it was delicious. The people working at the restaurant were gracious and speedy with the service (it's a family business which is always good to see). I'd love to come again next time I'm up here and try more sushi dishes. Great place!

The chicken was stir-fried with carrot, mushroom, and scallion in an excess of brown sauce. They provided enough iceberg lettuce to handle it, but the sauciness really let me down (Photo 9). KHAO YUM - 24 This is a 17 ingredient salad with tamarind dressing. I'm not usually a salad person, but this one was incredibly delicious and refreshing. Lots of crispy textures from the various vegetables, some juicy, tart and bitter pieces of grapefruit, and the crispy rice was the perfect fried carb on top. A bit pricy, but a great app to share for the whole table. CRISPY SHRIMP - 32 We were each able to get two pieces of shrimp among the four of us. The shrimp was batter and fried with a sweet garlicky glaze. While it was crispy and juicy, I thought it was a bit too saucy. It wasn't my favorite, but one of my friends really enjoyed the shrimp -- sauce and all. KHAO SOI - 48 The red and yellow curry was flavorful, and the egg noodles were perfectly soft with a bit of chew. The wagyu beef cheek was tender, but there wasn't much in it. I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.
