Where to begin....about a year ago, I decided to try these cleaners because they were organic and close by. I had been using one near Huron Ave but it was kind of a haul and I liked the fact that I could walk to this place. The gentleman who's often behind the counter has always been very pleasant but I began to notice little things that made me wonder about the place. On more than one occasion, I would arrive to find a sign on the door saying that it was closed- in the middle of the day! Another time I got there and the guy was on the phone with his credit card company and spent 15 minutes arguing with them while I stood there waiting. When he got off, he told me he couldn't help me because he had to rush to the bank before it closed and I would have to come back. YET another time, I was told that I couldn't pick up my cleaning because they were renovating the front part. At this point I should have beat a fast retreat. But no, I persevered until yesterday. I had brought all my woolens in last spring to be cleaned and stored over the warm months. When I went to pick them up yesterday, I was told that they weren't there. First the woman behind the counter told me that she remembered me picking them up which was a complete fabrication. She didn't even try to look but insisted that I must have them because they didn't. I found the ticket when I got home and called and she then told me that according to the computer I had picked them up 2 months ago. Finally I called back and threatened to call a lawyer. Magically, she got back to me five minutes later to tell me that she found them!!!! Unbelievable. She was rude and insufferable and never apologized when I went in today to finally pick up my clothes. To say that this place is the most dysfunctional business I have ever dealt with is a huge understatement. I'm surprised they've managed to stay in business. I hate to write bad reviews but I think people need to know what they're getting into. Thankfully, I got all my winter clothes but it would have been a disaster if I hadn't. I've been taking my suits and tuxes here every since freshman year. They are very dependable especially with next day service. One time the owner even kept the shop open an hour later just so I could come get my tux in time for an event the next day. I can't say how many times I've procrastinated and been able to get my dry cleaning the next day. I can't speak for dresses but for shirts, pants, suits, and all things I've brought there, the results have been perfect. I know I can drop my stuff there without being worried my nice clothes will get damaged. read more

Same day wash. Got a red wine stain out! But didn't get a small dirt mark out. Told me that they couldn't be expected to get 100% of things out for same day wash. Asked for a refund. Said no. Told them they should note that they do a worse job on same day wash than on other things. read more

I've never had a bad experience with them, either. Their dry cleaning and pressing is done on time and very well (no zigzaggy trouser creases here!). The lady who does alterations is really good too -- she altered a too-large shirt of mine into a perfect fit. read more

I have been using Cambridge Cleaners for the past 10+ years. James and his team have always done a terrific job. I use them on a weekly basis for mostly dry cleaning but have also had 3-4 of my suites tailored here and was very satisfied. Great service all around! read more

I would honestly give this place zero stars if I could. I regret not having listened to some of the previous reviews that warned me away from getting anything tailored here because, well, they're just awful. I brought in two full suits to get the jackets taken in and the pants hemmed slightly. Their turnaround time was pretty quick; about one week. However, when I went back and tried the suits on, the pants were tailored much too short (read: shorter than highwaters) and the jacket did not sit flat against my back (read: bulging and uneven tailoring). To be fair, the main woman who works there refit me and said they'd fix it, free of charge. I left the suits there and came back two weeks later to pick them up. Trying them on again, the pants were almost normal (they had taken off too much fabric to begin with) and the jackets were no better. I insisted that I speak to the seamstress. When I did, she mentioned that the errors in the tailoring were due to her not fitting me. She offered to fix the pieces again, free of charge. When I went back to check on the suits, the jackets were still not right and then they wanted to charge me for any additional work. She said it had been about 1.5 months and then implied that I had taken the suits out of the shop and ruined them elsewhere before she started trying to fix them (completely absurd). When I insisted that she do the job right for no additional money, she said that she couldn't do any better and that the work was fine. She then said that my suits were not made properly and that's why she couldn't get them to sit correctly (my suits were about $400/each; I guarantee that they were made properly). To make matters worse, the pants had been pressed since the last time they were tailored, as was the jacket, but in the last round of alterations, they didn't press the jacket again and then demanded that I pay to have it pressed again... even though they never got the job right in the first place. Needless to say, my two suits are essentially mutilated and I will have to replace them both very soon. Take it from me: Do NOT go here for any reason. read more

I have been bringing my clothes to this dry cleaners for more than a decade (I can't remember exactly, but it may be as long as 12-14 years). And my experience has always been completely satisfactory, with no clothes lost, no clothes damaged, and in all cases, as far as I could tell, the clothes were perfectly cleaned and pressed. On a handful of occasions, I was warned in advance that a stain might not come out completely, but that they would try to do what they could, and in those cases (2-3, not more) they succeeded. I haven't had any tailoring done, so I cannot comment on that. When I moved out of Cambridge, some years ago,to the suburbs, I continued to bring my clothes here because I had been so satisfied that I didn't see any reason to change -- I drive into Cambridge frequently. The store is family-owned and operated, and the courteousness with which customers are treated, and the promptness of the service, were boths point in its favor. The only drawback is that on Saturdays, a parking space on that very block (from about the Lampoon building to St. Paul's)isn't always available. I park a bit further away, but when you have an armload of clothes, not just a few pieces, it's always preferable to be as close as possible. So I tend to drop things off on weekdays -- they open early and stay open late.I unhesitatingly recommend this place,especially if you live in or around Harvard Square, or in any of the Harvard houses nearby, and can just walk in. read more
