I always wonder why people still go to corporate chain restaurants and don't support their local restaurants and cafes; this is a shining example of why people are scared to try local restaurants and stick with consistent, but only OK food. The place looks recently renovated, the room has a nice flow to it, and the view out the back is a small waterfall into the harbor. The ordering process wasn't that confusing for me (as other reviewers have mentioned), but the staff were fairly useless and had a difficult time responding to basic questions (this wasn't a busy day, most of the staff were just standing around behind the counter). The espresso was nicely made and tasted pretty fresh. They seem to have a wide variety of sandwiches/paninis, along with soups and salads. I made the mistake of trying the seafood chowder; I couldn't tell if it was out of a can, had been sitting around for a week, or was just poorly made. Either way, when you're located next to the sea and surrounded by other seafood restaurants, you can't half-ass the chowder. The sandwiches came with those bright green pickles that have no texture left and have an offensive after taste. I guess it was too much trouble to serve real pickles (either home made or from a local deli) when BJ's sells a whole jar of the bright green chemically preserved ones for cheap. The other side was a smallish pile of crumbled, stale, rippled potato chips. I looked around, and it looked like I may have gotten the bottom of the bag as it seemed everyone else had non-crumbled chips. The sandwiches were just terrible. The crab roll tasted fresh out of the can and had no flavor at all. Again, when you're next to the sea and don't feel like serving decent seafood, just don't. The Italian sub was a joke, the stale roll was soggy on the inside, the meat and cheese were LOW quality, (from shaw's?) and I failed to taste the prosciutto that the sandwich was advertised with. Both of us left with a bad taste in our mouths (both figuratively and literally). I know that the economy is tough, and owning a restaurant is tough, but find another job if you care so little for the product you're serving to you're customers. This doesn't just make this poor excuse for a restaurant look bad, it makes every local business in the town look bad; but hopefully there are some business owners in town who haven't completely given up. read more

This is a great place for a fair priced lunch. The view is AWESOME! You might have to wait for the upper patio though - but I think it is worth it. The food is good and there are a variety of fresh made sandwiches to order. The upstairs is really adorable with couches and high tables. This was a nice little surprise I happen to stumble on. Mainly because it was next door the place I was supposed to go, but was closed on that particular day. The decor in this deli was very modern, and had some awesome views of the bay and surround area. I had a nice menu selection for breakfast and lunch. Some nice hand made pastries in the display case. And a plenty of choices of coffee and juices, and sodas. The breakfast burrito I had was pretty big. Filled with egg, bacon, sausage, and potatoes... Very filling! The prices were reasonable. I'm surprised to see negative reviews. It's a Deli. The seafood menu items are decent but the sandwiches and baked goods are the star here and very reasonable prices. We had the italian and a bowl of seafood chowder. I told my husband that it was a delicious sandwich and soup with Panera Bread prices. I thought the counter service was AMAZING. There was a blonde server that could not have been more helpful explaining the menu. We also got something off of the children's menu for our 2 year old and it was a good portion size. We had a brownie on the way out. This is a perfect spot with a view for a quick lunch/dinner or lazy breakfast. read more

Lovely setting and great food. My husband, his sister, and I stopped in to pick up a sandwich to bring on a hike to the summit of Bald Rock Mountain. We loved the sandwich so much that we stopped back in to warm up with a chai tea latte. We've eaten here twice in two days. My daughter loves the tuna sandwiches. I've had the roast beef on baguette and the fresh Maine crab salad with creamy dill dressing . Everything was fresh, well prepared and delicious. Plastic cups were not clean - after I mentioned this to our server, she took the drink off the bill. Ask for a glass for your beverage. Stopped in after a hike at the Camden state park, dogs weren't allowed in or on the deck, but I went in while my boyfriend waited outside, which we could do, because the menu is posted on the window! It was a long wait for our take out, but the sandwiches were phenomenal!!! My boyfriend had the pastrami specialty sandwich and I had the selectman-with turkey, havarti, tomatoes, pesto and onions. I have a gluten allergy and the selectman on GF bread was delicious!!!! It's not easy to do GF sandwiches right but they did! Like I said, it was definitely a wait for our food--but it was well worth the wait!!!! If you have a puppy, we did ours to-go and then sat in the little park off to the left! I was disappointed with this deli, especially after seeing the great reviews. First of all there were several things that were overpriced, like $2.99 for a small bottle of soda and $5.99 for a single piece of pie. Feeding lunch to a family of 4 caused the bill to add up quickly. I had the lobster salad which was not very good (especially for $24.99!). The lobster was over cooked and had barely any dressing, so it was dry. The description said that it came on a bed of lettuce but it turned out to also include tomatoes, cucumbers and shredded carrots, none of which I like. My son got the portobello mushroom sandwich which had wilted lettuce and so little sauce that he couldn't taste it. On the positive side, my wife got the Monte Cristo and loved it, and my other son got a grilled cheese sandwich and thought it was really good (how badly can you mess up cheese between 2 pieces of bread?). We arrived at Boynton-McKay across the street today to find it closed on Tuesday, so it was time for plan B. We decided on Camden Deli. You order at the counter and then pay when your food is ready. I ordered a veggie focaccia, drawn by the marinated artichoke hearts. It also had cheese, red peppers, onions, pesto and I forget what else. Alan ordered a crab roll. They both came w/ a mound of crinkle cut potato chips, which neither of us realized, so he ordered a small potato salad and I ordered a salad w/ garbanzo beans, halved plum tomatoes, chunks of feta and small black olives, smaller than kalamatas, but still salty. I got tea for me and water for him. When they called his name I fetched the food. The sandwich was annoyingly difficult to detach from the paper liner of the basket, but eventually we prevailed. The second half was easier. The sandwich was tasty and the salad was amazing, full of so many of the things I like. Alan was pleased w/ his crab roll and the potato salad. We left most of the potato chips, although they were good. read more

Got a veggie ciabatta sandwich, which had roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, pesto, tomatoes, piles of mozzarella; comes with ruffly chips and a pickle. Sandwich was... inoffensive? Fine, I guess? Not worth the 7.99 in my opinion, but I'm difficult. The man at the counter was great, service was quick. The Megunticook river flows under this restaurant, coming out from beneath it in a slow smooth sheet in view of the big windows in the dining area, which also overlook the bay. The river ends in a series of falls where seagulls often come to drink, which is very cute. I could imagine kids liking this place and the birds a lot. As for me, not a kid anymore, I ate a sandwich and drank a beer slowly in Camden Deli, had no problems, whatever, done. read more

One of the BEST places to eat in Camden, Maine!! Highly recommended. They offer a wide array of yummy sandwiches. Best place in town to get gourmet coffee and dessert. Staff for the most part is very friendly. You can eat upstairs and overlook the harbor. Order sandwiches for a picnic lunch and hike Mt. Battie. They do get VERY busy for lunch time. So if you aren't big on crowds or waiting for a long period of time, try it after their lunch crowd dies down. Well worth the wait for sandwiches and anything they make, including all of their homemade desserts. I went here twice while visiting Maine. It was alright the first time. I ordered the seafood chowder...a little too fishy for my taste, but that is my own fault. It was thick and I enjoyed that. I tried the Geary's Summer Ale. It was pretty good! I split two things with my friend the second time. The chicken moz. Wrap and the grilled Tuscan. Both were great and each had their own feel. One of the main(e) reasons we travel to Camden! Love the spectacular view and variety of offerings. Their sandwiches as always are tasty. Italian sub & chicken mozzarella melt were delicious. Beef chili was spicy but greasy. We arrived at 1:30- well after the lunch rush & were subject to (giant bins?) dishes being banged all over the sink wash station and the emptying of trash & bottle containers which made it so incredibly noisy we couldn't have a conversation. No labels on most of dessert offerings, we usually load up to take home but wasn't worth the effort to distract staff from cleanup to ask. read more

So disappointed! Each year we come to Maine in the summer and have eaten here. In the past it was great, but alas, not this year. We came in on a Sunday, around 10 am for breakfast. Remembering how good it was, we were surprised to see an empty restaurant and no line (actually, not one customer) at the counter. One or two tables were occupied on the upper deck, but that was it. Maybe that should have been our clue. We ordered our usual feast of a breakfast - excited for the blueberry pancakes, homefries, eggs, sausages, etc. To our dismay, we received a flimsy resemblance of a half-heartedly prepared "breakfast". Eggs were thrown on a plate and not cooked evenly, toast (if you can call it that) barely toasted, and NO homefries (after the menu clearly stated they were included). Just Okay, Subway makes a better Italian sub unfortunately. I thought I would get the Hot Pastrami sandwich and was really looking forward to it. Now the price for two sandwiches and two drinks was $28, so I expected a piled high, New York style sandwich. What I received was a sandwich where I couldn't see the meat, the bread met on the edges. After a good experience the previous two visits in 2015 and 2016, our visit of 8/13/17 was a huge disappointment. We both ordered eggs with homefries, toast or muffin, and meat. The eggs were ordered over-easy but were served over-well on both orders (and one was actually not even a whole egg), the toast on my order was actually slightly warmed bread, the muffin on the GF's order appeared completely untoasted, and the homefries were completely missing from both orders. I tried to find someone to complain to but they were all busy so we just ate what we had and assumed we wouldn't get charged for the missing homefries. They DID in fact charge us and when I complained, the owner, without looking up from the grill, said "take a dollar off each meal", no apology, no apparent concern at all. I also complained about the untoasted toast and he repeated "take a dollar off", again with no apparent concern. I should add that they charge premium prices and the portions were small. The impression I got was of a business that just doesn't care anymore. Needless to say, we will not be back. read more

Acknowledging that we are all living in the time of COVID I understand we live a special time. However, the understanding needs to go both ways. It does not excuse poor customer service such as berating a customer for complaining. It does not excuse rudeness. A simple apology can go a long way when a customer complains that they didn't get an order right. Instead the owner or manager chose to blame the COVID crisis and berate the customer for letting them know that the mayo and lettuce was left off their sandwich. In addition, we are paying for the sandwich and are not getting it for free. They tell us to ask for what we want they acknowledge they can make it and then we, the customer, pay for it. I even give a tip each time though in theory a tip is given for good service. It is in trust that in ordering takeout we give the tip not knowing if the product will be as we ordered. Berating a customer is so low. Forgive me if this review is redundant as I tried to post before but it didn't look as if it was actually posted. Camden deli, farewell for ever. Tourist trap. Awful. Never have I waited so long for a couple sandwiches, and paid so much for less than mediocre quality. Disillusioned college students working there who don't give a damn. Flies all over the counter landing on the food waiting for customers to pick up. The staff totally disinterested in keeping them away. I wonder if the board of health would feel the same way? I'm pretty sure they just lost my order slip for a while, there's no way it could take anyone 30 minutes to make 2 deli sandwiches where no cooking is involved. Or maybe the flies carried it off. When we finally got our sandwiches, couldn't believe the price. $30 for 2 small sized sandwiches and 2 bottles of water. The quality sub-par. The crab roll was supposed to be on a toasted roll and it wasn't. The club sandwich (not a triple decker as the menu said) was also supposed to be on toast, but only one slice was toasted. I guess it's the thought that counts. No mayo on the club. 30 minutes to make a simple deli sandwich and they can't get it right. This place was awful. I used to come here all the time and I was excited to come back while in town. I was disappointed to see that the food quality has gone down drastically while the prices seem to have quadrupled. The staff was extremely rude and the manager wasn't any better. After one of his staff blatantly rolled her eyes in annoyance the only thing he could say was "she's not from this country" as if that should excuse rude behavior? We are all human beings and smiling is universal. It's too bad that they have lost their small town deli appeal.
