5/1/26 - There's a somewhat new place on Ryders Lane in Milltown called Pasquale Brick Oven Pizza. The parking lot has looked crowded the last few times that I have driven by. Tonight, I decided to pull in and give it a shot. The place was packed inside. I'm not sure how word got out to the community that this place is really good. But it has. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza and a large chicken caesar salad. The pizza crust at this place is SPECTACULAR. The outer crust is crispy and crunchy and not even a little bit dry. The undercrust is also crispy and crunchy and stands up straight when you pick up the slice. The cheese is high quality. After just one bite, I understood the reason the place was so crowded. There are a lot of people working in the kitchen and they also have a sit down waitress service area that was full as well. There are plenty of wait staff running around and serving dinner. Everyone is very friendly and the gentleman behind the counter greeted me the second I walked in the door. Now for my negative criticisms and they are borderline petty. The sauce was good but it doesn't blow you away. When you have spectacular crust and high quality cheese, you would expect the sauce to be on the same playing field. It just isn't. It could probably have used a bit more seasoning. I understand that if you have a lot of staff you also have a lot of overhead. I am not opposed to paying up for high quality products but my large pepperoni pizza and chicken caesar salad cost just under $49.00 which is extremely high for this area. It's definitely worth your time to give this place a shot. But it's definitely not a place you can eat at often unless you're independently wealthy. Overall Rating: A read more

I can't recommend this place, Stopped in at Pasquale Pizza for a quick bite. Two thin slices and a 20 oz. Pepsi came out to $13.06, and with a sign suggesting "tips encouraged," I ended up spending $14.06 for a very standard meal. The pizza was decent -- nothing to complain about, but also nothing that really stood out. Prices felt a bit steep for what you get. It's convenient if you're in the area, but not worth going out of your way for. I would not return. read more

We dined in on the recommendation of our neighbors. Staff is friendly and very welcoming. We were seated right away. The restaurant is modern and very clean. We were asked right away what we wanted to drink. I didn't realize it was a BYOB. Delicious hot bread and butter were brought out. Menu has lots of choices to choose from. They also have separate "specials" menu. We ordered a rice ball as an appetizer. It had great flavor and lots of gooey cheese. Our meals included a meatball parm sandwich and a 12" thin crust veggie pie. The bread was toasted, not soggy, and meatballs had good flavor. The pizza was thin and crispy. They topped the pizza with lots of veggies. Veggies were all cut thin and the same size, not like some places where the veggies are cut in chunks and difficult to eat. We ordered from there tonight and the order was not correct, then we had trouble getting the credit card machine to work correctly. We had ordered a small pizza along with 4 meals. The pizza was cold. The chicken parm dinner was good but the pasta was dry. My child had Fettuccini alfredo ( chicken was forgotten) but it was a bit dry. This pizza grew on me. First few bites weren't bad or anything, just seemed kind of boring and a little bland. But the more of it I ate, the better it seemed to get. Got a half-pepperoni half-sausage pizza and an order of garlic knots. Garlic knots were fine. Pizza is typical New York style. Floppy, thin and a little bit greasy. Just how I like it. I might consider trying something new in this area if it was convenient, but this will be a fine option when I'm in the North Brunswick area. read more

Tried pasquale for the third time under new ownership. Pizza was burnt, very little cheese and very little sauce. The garden salad I ordered was a wilted cesar salad to my surprise. The rolls they give you are much smaller but was the only thing I was able to nosh on because I had to throw all the food in the trash. I guess the new owner wants to gain a quick dollar but in the long run he's only hurting himself. I will never go back. read more

Didn't skimp on ingredients. 3-Garden Salad (added grilled shrimp) comes with your choice of packaged dressing. I like the peppers, carrots, cucumbers, olives, (minus the onions and added shrimps) on romain lettuce. Very colorful, fresh and yummy. -4 They give you 4 bread buns for your meal. Used to be my wife's and my favorite pizza place in the vicinity. The menu has changed, they don't sell medium sized pizza anymore, the salads have cheaper ingredients in them and you can't have one half a flavor the other another on pizza because of different cooking times in the brick oven. Renovation inside is nice and now they sell burgers, but we went there for the pizza. Most of the staff is the same and they're super nice, but it's a bit of a disappointment. read more

Stopped in for a quick dinner on a Friday night during Lent. The place was crowded but we were able to get a table right away. The calamari and the sauce were excellent. We then had a plain pie which was tasty. My only issue was that the pizza was not served right out of the oven. It came to us warm instead of piping hot. The table next to us sent their pie back to be reheated as theirs wasn't hot enough either. The service was good and the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. read more

If you frequently drive through the Ryders Lane intersection with Tices Lane, you've probably noticed the four-unit strip mall with the "Dunkin Donuts, Massage, Brick Oven Pizza" sign. Pasquale is the Brick Oven Pizza business to the left of the acupuncture center, and takes up two store units. Upon walking in, customers will notice the several wall-mounted flat-screen TVs (currently broadcasting live Olympics soccer on NBCSN), a mini-fridge with bottled Snapple, a larger sliding-door fridge with bottled Coca-Cola products, a soda fountain dispenser, a coffee maker, and holders for napkins and utensils (real metal silverware). The pizza counter is on the far side of the room, along with the semicircular baking oven which is probably responsible for generating most of the heat in the room. (Luckily, the AC was on and I sat by the door so I only broke a tiny sweat. Also, there were only about four other dine-in customers, so that helped too.) One of the cash registers had issues processing my credit card, so an employee had to manually key in my payment info at the other POS terminal. While I waited for my receipt, I noticed that the main room has mostly bar-height tables and chairs while the overflow seating in the neighboring room has mostly standard-height tables, along with two more screens broadcasting sports or Italian-language television. My stromboli was served with a dipping sauce in a small gravy boat on a square tiled plate matching some of the tiled wall décor. While I feel like I tasted more bread than sausage, pepper, onions, or cheese, I enjoyed the bread portion: a slightly crunchy but not overbaked exterior and a chewy but not overly starchy interior. I'm not a connoisseur of East Brunswick pizza and I didn't even order pizza on this visit, so I can't say how this business racks up against local competition in la pizza department, but I had a pleasant dine-in experience because of the small touches: freshly oven-baked food on a real plate with metal utensils; clean floors and modern wooden bar-height tables/chairs; high-definition cable; and friendly service. I felt a little like I was in someone's home rather than in a crowded, greasy, take-out joint with delivery boxes stacked to the ceiling. read more

I was looking to have a small lunch after my son's communion and pretty much every place I contacted was like "4 hours and $80/pp" which is more money and time than I wanted. On a recommendation I contacted Pasquales Brick Oven on Ryders in Milltown and for MUCH less they gave us their side room for 30 people and it was FANTASTIC! It's BYO so we brought some beer and wine and they set up wine glasses and gave us more delicious food than I can even say-everyone went home with dinner for a few nights! Service was impeccable and I would recommend anyone having an intimate party check it out. read more

Calamari was great. Nice light batter, good gravy, and they didn't serve it over a bed of lettuce, so all pieces were nice and crispy. Unfortunately, common sense did not carry over to the caesar salad, which showed up pre-dressed, so if you live far away that is gonna be mush. Meatball sub showed up in a mushy roll, but that is always a risk. Something tasted not right though, I think it was the meatballs, but it may have been the cheese. Really off putting. I would not order that again. Another note- their own website is significantly cheaper than grubhub. BUT, grubhub will deliver to Spotswood and their website will not. Probably best to call for delivery or take out. read more

I am a big fan of this pizza parlor. The inside is different. It doesn't feel like your traditional pizza parlor, it's nicer. But, under new ownership, the food seems to be 25% smaller than under the old ownership and is more expensive. If your going to charge more, than at least give back the 25% that was removed. The large pizza seemed small to me and the lack of sauce was disappointing. The slices were too thin. My wrap was much smaller than previously. Ordering pizza is always tricky in my house because 1) I'm gluten free 2) my bf is picky with pizza 3) I can't digest most red sauces (product of aging). So we decided to try Pasquale since we were in range for delivery. We ordered a gf pizza with onions, a grandma pie, a pasta dish (looks like my bf ordered ziti), and pasta fagioli. Order was delivered quickly and the food was hot! We all enjoyed our food! Their sauce is spot on, the onions were grilled (woohoo!), and the cheese was delicious! The true test was how I'd feel later and I felt fine! Completely digestible! :) My bf and sister liked their grandma pie! My only critique is the gf crust. There are far better ones out there than this one. I've noticed a few pizzerias use this crust and it's not great (soggy and no flavor). There's another crust some places use and it's sooo much better (Dominos being one of them oddly). If they improved their gf crust this would be a slam dunk pizza for me! We discovered this place on Facebook. They sponsored an ad for their food drive. So we bagged up some items and drove them over. When we arrived, we figured, why not eat. I ordered the caprese salad, a slice of thick crust pizza and tiramisu. My boyfriend got two slices of bbq chicken pizza and the garlic knots. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. You have be crazy to open up a pizza joint anywhere in the East Brunswick area these days, and yet that's exactly what the owners of Pasquale's did back in 2012. My first few visits were clustered around their grand opening, and I had only recently moved back to East Brunswick from Brooklyn. I gave them every benefit of the doubt and apparently had meals good enough to warrant them four stars back in June 2012. Over time, though, as I settled back into mainstays like Brothers and Dusals, and then discovered newcomers like Mancini, it was clear that Pasquale's really didn't rank up to these local heavyweights. But being a sucker for the little guy, I was compelled to try them again last night, with my wife picking up delivery. I was pretty much expecting it to be a bomb. But truth be told, Pasquale's still held up pretty decently. While I am dropping them down a star because I just can't put them on the same level of my aforementioned go-to joints above, I'd still say the pizza and sandwiches are A-OK. I ordered a chicken parm sub, and while there was absolutely nothing standout about it, there was nothing wrong with it either. The bread was light and crusty, not heavy, which I like. The chicken was cooked nicely and was sliced up in the sandwich. And the cheese and sauce came together to create that standard issue chicken parm sandwich flavor that you've had at just about any halfway decent pizza joint in New Jersey. It was completely fine for a quick dinner at home on a night when I was working late anyway. My wife got a grilled veggie wrap which she said she really enjoyed. And that's a pretty big compliment because she absolutely obsesses over the veggie panini at Mancini. My son had a slice of pizza, which I had to sample first. Pasquale's pizza reminds me of pizza down the boardwalk -- again, nothing special. But the thin crust and cornmeal dusted bottom makes me feel like I'm down in Wildwood eating a greasy reheated slice with ocean waves crashing in the distance. Anything that makes me fondly recall a trip down the shore is A-OK in my book. The total miss in our order was the Pasta Fagioli. I'm pretty sure they didn't drain the beans from the can, because the broth consisted primarily of that thick, glurpy, starch that you find at the bottom of a can of beans. It ruined the whole flavor of the soup and I actually threw the whole bowl out after just two bites. (Normally I can make it through anything if I'm hungry enough.) Tsk, tsk. With the recent demise of Alfonso's, only months after an extensive move and renovation, it's clear that the noose must be tightening around local pizza joints who can't hold up to the big guys in town. Pasquale's must be doing something right because they always seem to be doing a decent business when I drive by. But it's not a place I would ever make a destination given that there is just too much better pizza and Italian grub in town. read more

Grandma's Pizza! All I have to say. Whether you order a slice of it or a whole pizza, it was surprisingly bursting with flavor and really delicious. I know, doesn't look like much at first glance, but the flavors in the tomato sauce were extraordinary! Nice crisp all along the bottom of the pizza. No gooey, soft spots here. I was craving a slice of pepperoni, olives, and mushroom which they so kindly accommodated and threw in the oven for me. Yum. Stopped in here since I didn't have a chance to grab a slice in NY. Opted for Carnegie's amazing pastrami sandwich and picnic in Central Park. Nice little location off the beaten path. Real Italian restaurant from the food to the staff. Friendly service. When this place opened, it was really good. They were good delivery and had themselves a nice niche because of where they were located and the menu that they had, which was typical of what you'd expect to get in the area. But just recently it's fallen off the wagon somewhat. While the pizza is still pretty good, the prices have gone up astronomically, really so. $30 for two items for delivery is A LOT. And yes, the portions are decent-sized, and you get complementary rolls with them, but it used to be closer to $20-$25 range. Fortunately their pies are really good, and that's what makes me want to return to call for more deliveries whenever I'm back in the area. I still think that Mancini has the best pizza in the area, but considering the circumstances of location and convenience, these guys do a solid for what it is.
