Carminero Mexican Restaurant is a solid spot for casual and traditional Mexican fare in the Glendale area. My boyfriend and I were craving some good ol' Mexican food and found Carminero through Yelp. We visited on a weekday for lunch and the place was pretty steady, with people dining in and many more getting takeout. The place is casual, as you order at the counter and your food is delivered to you at your table. The menu is huge; there's something for everyone here, with most entrees less than 10 bucks. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada and I ordered the green chile pork burrito. We both asked for our food to be in to-go boxes, as we knew we'd be having leftovers. Portions were hefty here! Also, don't forget to hit up the salsa bar. All of the salsas were tasty. I recommend the hottest one, which was tolerable if you like spicy foods. My boyfriend really enjoyed his carne asada. I took a bite of his steak, which I agree, was really flavorful. His entree also came with rice, beans, guac and handmade tortillas. My chile pork burrito was also solid. I love green chile sauce, so my burrito was smothered in it, which you can request, in addition to the green chile pork flavor within the burrito. Although there were some fatty pieces in the pork, the meat was very tender. Overall, this was a great place to get a casual Mexican meal without breaking the bank. This place is pretty good and busy. Probably saw 5 Uber drivers grab pickups while I was there. Staff was so amazingly sweet was apologetic for the wait threw in a grip of their amazing salsa. Get the hot red one. I was sweating but damn was that a fine tasting salsa. Their carne asada is absolutely some of the best you'll find on the NW side. Perfectly seasoned and charred. The tortilla was just asi-asi. Rice was bland. Like no flavor that I could discern at all. Mini chimis were good. It's amazing to me how hard it is to find good ol authentic Mexican food in the Northwest Phoenix area. Granted, having grown up in East Los Angeles where there's a pretty good Mexican restaurant just about anywhere you go, I figured I would shortly find a couple of go-to spots, but for other than chain-style fast food and fancier, pricey bar/restaurant food, I regularly drive east to the city to get reasonably priced authentic food. But a few months ago I drove by this little nondescript place in a strip mall near a grocery store and decided to stop by. So glad I did. Ambiance is basic in n out, clean and bright, with several tables if you choose to eat in. I learned from the newspaper and mag clips on the wall that Caminero has been there close to a couple of decades, serving up high quality enchiladas, chile rellenos, crispy tacos, tortas, burritos and combo plates with rice and beans, all I need to satisfy my regular hankering for the food I grew up with. I've tried all the above over the last couple of months, all really good. I do wish that they sold beer! Younger guy, Diamondbacks cap has the worst customer service. He must be having a bad day. Truly unprofessional. I asked for a refund after his attitude. Before I paid I asked if I'd get an itemized receipt to expense my meal, this genius says yes. Then hands me a generic slip that says taxed item... i said I can't use this. My company is strict. I ask to let me take a pic of the order slip please and he gives me an attitude and hands me someone else's. I said that's not my order. At this point I was fed up. Told him to give me my refund or I could dispute with AMEX. Little guy says if he doesn't give me a refund I won't get my money back. . Little boy, I use AMEX for a reason. I've been looking for an authentic mexican taco place and this restaurant is NOT that. I ordered their carne asada and al pastor street tacos on corn tortillas. First of all, the tortillas were so hard and stiff it was really difficult to get a bite out of them. The carne asada meat was also really tough and burnt. And the al pastor tastes like it was seasoned by those grocery store al pastor packets. The toughness of the tortilla and lack of flavor in the meat just made the whole process of eating the tacos unenjoyable. The salsa too was so watery it was impossible to get any flavor out of them. Alright. I've held off on writing this review. Chance after chance. Here's when I knew there was a problem. I went in about a year ago.....bought myself a Chorizo burrito and sat at the table as a few others were taped off for social distancing. It was actually my first time there. A 4 Man landscaping crew came in and ordered....and before the food was ready Esteban the owner walked up to me and said, " I need you to move, so these guys can sit down" honestly ...that's never happened to me before and I guess I was a bit stunned.....the only place to go was a bench outside and down the way....so I said ..."No problem, I guess I'll just eat outside" To be candid...that event has stuck with me ever since it happened...and opened my eyes to what felt like some kind of Bias....I thought naaaa. Can't be. Maybe I'm just feeling some kind of way. I went back a couple more times, noticed burritos were small, on one occasion got a burrito where the tortilla had not been cooked (warmed) (Raw) and it was like knawing cardboard....I tossed over half the burrito. Over the past year been in probably 7-8 times.....every time since the salsa bar is closed...you only get small to go cups of salsa, the burritos are small but the cups of salsa ...probably 2 ounce , are half full....and you always run out with a little less than a third of burrito to go. So One time I said hey can I have one more salsa, Esteban the owner says "No....you get two salsas per burrito, that's it" I was floored....like IN MY MIND I said really....raised the price a buck over some eggs, when eggs were still $1.17 a dozen. Dudes ripping me off. Any way....comes to the Last time I was there, few days ago. Bought the Bacon and Egg burrito....I tried engaging Esteban in small talk, "Hi Esteban good morning"....He doesn't even look up, he just takes my card, takes my payment and mumbled something without even making eye contact. Five minutes later, cook comes out from kitchen ....which I thought was strange and hands me my burrito. That's the pictures in my review.the one with no bacon....It was small, and flavorless. The Bacon really seemed like little bacon bits...and some of it really fatty...and it had no flavor because it didn't have any bacon, and whatever potato was in it was un-seasoned and bland. It was really a waste of money. Just so disapointing. That day I made up my mind to NEVER go back to Camineros, why would I. I feel I get treated differently...and my food has been Sub Par. Looking at the Reviews....I don't get it. It doesn't add up. I've had other food there. It's only OK. I made the decision to go to Mariachi's.....3 minutes farther down 83rd. Just look at the difference in Burrito. Same burro...Bacon and Egg. Way bigger, big pieces of very lean meaty bacon, cheese...seasoning...honestly it was Fantastic. Living up in Norterra area my wife and I thought we were never going to find real/good Mexican food, so I'm glad we finally stumbled upon Caminero! We've now been there 3 times, take out twice and dine-in once... all 3 times have been amazing. Now let me start off by saying this, the vibe and feel of this place is nothing to write home about (hint, hint... this is usually how you can tell the good ones from the bad). This has the look of a family owned restaurant who is concerned about making bomb-a** food and thats it! The people working there are always friendly, and the food is amazing... thats matters. Prices aren't bad at all either. We have had the flautas, nachos, burritos, tacos, and carne asada plate... every single one of them have been amazing. It's also not going to cost you an arm and a leg to take this good food home with you. If you want a good atmosphere with americanized Mexican food that you will pay $15-25 a plate for, go check out one of those chain restaurants that everyone loves so much in our neighborhood (no hate, theres definitely a time and a place for those types of restaurants)... if you want good and authentic food that is reasonably priced, check out Caminero! read more

I call this place Flavorless!! I ordered a very simple Chorizo Burrito with Onions and refried beans. NO Cheese, No Potatoes. I got a Chorizo burrito with potatoes and cheese. What is hard about what I ordered. I called them up and I could hear the person on the phone ask the cook about the order and why wasn't there beans in the burrito and I heard the cook say yes I put beans in the burrito and I didn't put cheese. Total Lie. That aside I could not even taste the chorizo at all. All they did was give me what they pre cook witch was chorizo and egg with potatoes. This place sucks!!! Never go here!! read more

Not very friendly and bad customer service. I looked on the menu from online and ordered via phone. I got there and the prices were $2-$5 more than what it said online. On the phone I asked if chips and salsa came with it. She said the tacos. When they gave me the food there was no chips. I asked for the chips and they said it doesn't come with it. Caminero was very underwhelming. We had Togo order of a burrito and some tacos. Both very very salty. I ended up adding some avocados to both at home to lessen the saltiness but even then it was still salty. The tortilla was also dry; it was difficult to chew through. Needless to say, couldn't finish the tacos or the burritos. On top of that, the lime was so dried out, I couldn't even squeeze one drop of liquid out of it. This is a small place where you order at the counter. Very nice people and helpful. The food was very good. I am very critical of Mexican food as I've been eating it for 50 years in Colorado and have had a hard time finding really good down home Mexican food in Arizona. I had the Taco Salad. It was plentiful with lots of meat, cheese and lettuce and tomatoes. Their pick was very flavorful and their hot sauce good but not as flavorful. The shell was fresh and crisp as well. My husband had the cheese enchiladas and the sauce was very tasty. There were people at a table near us who had a Grande Tostado that looked amazing. This was my third time ordering from Caminero. The first two times there were no problems and the food was great. I'm very lenient when it comes to food mistakes especially when ordering from Uber eats, but the burrito I got this time was appalling. I ordered the Caminero burrito without a tortilla (because I'm celiac, not because I'm trying to get more food) and without sour cream. As you can see in the pictures, I received a tiny portion of food, lots of sour cream, and about half a tablespoon of guacamole. I got a burrito bowl from Rubios yesterday that was 4 times the size for the same price. Also, my girlfriend ordered the same burrito but kept the tortilla and the food/portion was great. Yelp searched the best Mexican food in Peoria and this place came up. It certainly deserves its high star rating! I'm from CA, so I was looking for authentic taqueria style Mexican food. On top of the salsa bar and chips, our food was just amazing! I got the chimichanga wet style with carne asada. The meat was tender and flavorful. The chimichanga was fried perfectly, with generous topping portions. It was also huge! I'd come in starving, and was able to take home leftovers.
