I've been here dozens of times (seriously) and It's always consistent and a great experience. We always get the Carne Asada Burrito, Chicken Fajitas, and Chicken Flautas - all of which are amazing!! They make their salsas in house and we love the spicy one and tomatillo. You may have to try calling in a bunch of times (busy signal) until you finally get through, but it's totally worth it!!! read more

You place your order at the counter then find a table. I ordered the carne asada tacos and they were awesome. They had onions and cilantro. The slasa was great. Walk up and order. Chips are bland, salsa watered down. The ref ride beans and rice were pretty good and deserve 4 stars. My taco's could of had more meat and the shell seemed to be very oily?? The price seemed reasonable, ambiance is less than fair, customer service fair. Big take out establishment. I will give it another try to see if it can live up to its YELP reputation. read more

Very stingy with the salsa. I had 4 burritos and 2 tacos with my order and asked for 3 salsas each entree since the salsa is small containers and they wouldn't even give me 8 salsa containers. Top notch Mexican food. Very unassuming appearance outside, but the food is outstanding. The prices haven't changed that much over the years either. I don't know how to say it, but the tortillas are amazing on their own with a little avocado salsa...the tortillas. My standard order is a Caminero Burrito with carnitas. Just unbeatable. Eat here. We have had this place recommended to us by several friends of ours. We have been looking for a good Mexican food place near us for a few months now so we figured we would give this place a try. We were very, very pleased with it. It is not your typical sit down type of Mexican restaurant. You can go in and sit down as there are probably 10 tables but the majority of people order take out. I went in and ordered take out on a Thursday night and they were fairly busy. It took a little longer to get the food than I had expected but it was understandable with how busy they were. We were very happy with the food. We ordered 2 shredded beef chimichangas, a kids grind beef taco meal, el pastor mini tacos and beef mini fundidos. It was all fantastic. The chimichangas came with beans and rice. The beans were really good and had the traditional ham hock flavor. The rice was a little dry but not terrible. The beef in the chimichangas was good and flavorful. The ground beef in the taco had good flavor and wasn't just thrown in there. The el pastor tacos were really good and not too spicy. The cream of the crop were the mini fundidos though. They are basically little chimichangas that are covered in cheese and a jalapeño cream cheese sauce. Fantastic! I will get those for my meal next time and try the chicken. Overall, we are very happy with this place and we may have found our New Mexican food place! read more

Unfortunately this used to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The owner has become super stingy and flat out rude. When my order was made incorrectly he refused to remake it. I have a gluten allergy and cannot eat a tortilla. Therefore my whole meal had to go in the garbage. read more

The breakfast burritos are good, but I ordered two and they are a decent size. They don't set their salsa out so I asked for a few more since they are cheap with the salsa and want to give you ONE per burrito. If I had it my way I'd have 3 per burrito. He gave me 2 per burrito and got an attitude and said you get no more and I'll charge you next time for extra salsa. Seriously?!? 2 salsas per burritos and it was practically an argument to get that and now you want to charge me?! Unbelievable. Never been to a Mexican Restaurant that's so darn cheap with salsa!!!! If you like hole in the wall Mexican food, this is the place in Peoria. I'm used to these places on every corner in Los Angels, but in the West Valley, Camenero is it. I liked the beans a lot. The rice wasn't very flavorful and was dry. My husband got the California burrito with chicken. He felt like it was too heavy on the beans, more beans than meat. This place is a hidden gem! Very small almost hole in the wall joint. Staff is very friendly. Inside is clean and well maintained. Food is obviously to die for. There are so many options to choose from and I'm always open to trying new things. My usual go-to meat is carna asada, while my boyfriends is either chicken or pork. All are great! My mom really enjoys their vegetarian burrito. She swears by it every time and never gets anything different even though she's a total meat eater. Sunday's are great for breakfast or lunch only since they close at 2pm. Always busy during the lunchtime, so if you drive up between 11-1 PM, you will be battling numerous landscaping crews of 3-4 people per crew. I really love the flavor of the food here but damn them, they never give you enough. The burritos and chimichangas come in looking nice and big and fat, but as soon as you tear into it you find out their deep dark secret, all tortilla, little meat. I think the ratio is a conservative 70/30 ratio, with the tortilla on the higher end. I am sad to say I only discovered this place and the fact that they sell the real deal street tacos, only about a year ago. I love this place, I always order to go, the place is pretty divey, but they sure stay busy. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner here and are open Monday-sat 8am- 9pm. Sunday is shorter hours. But my tried and true and something I crave is the street tacos and this is the only place I've been able to find the real deal in North West valley/north Peoria. They are right down the road from my house and it's great. I need to remember to check in more often. :) This place is much better food wise than Too Shelf which is located across the street. There food doesn't even compare to this place. If you're looking for a good place to have some real Mexican food and you're around this area, I highly suggest coming here and enjoying some real Mexican food. You won't be disappointed.
