We know it's not easy to adopt a rescue. The process is as strenuous as a real baby adoption... I mean not quite but it's a surprisingly thorough process. Most places are just trying to match the dogs up to the best possible home...some can be very biased... You just have to roll with the punches... We were fortunate enough to be approved by Camp Cocker for a FREEDOM Flyer rescue from Korea. She was posted as a Shiba mix but ended up being a mix of 11 breeds, none Shiba lol. But we love her still. Long story short...we were happy with the process and the outcome. We had lost our previous dog to cancer months before and thought it might be best to go for a rescue and it was. The people genuinely care and follow up regularly. They even ask you to return the dog to them and not someone else if you end up giving them up for any reason. So they see it through til the end. read more

I first applied to rescue Minnie from Camp Cocker Rescue in March of 2018. Minnie would have been my first dog in life, and I was honest about this in my application. Soon after submitting my application, I had a call with a volunteer from Camp Cocker Rescue who talked me through some of Minnie's stipulations, mostly that she would need to be on prescription dog food for life. I was on board with this. A few days later, I got a note that Camp Cocker did not have any dogs for me. It was a very cordial note that wished me luck in my search. I asked for more detailed feedback on where my application fell short, but never heard back. If I had to guess, I think it might have been because I had never owned a dog, or that I work a full time job (although I can bring my dog to work!). I was disappointed, but found my first cocker, and my soul dog Paddington at my local Humane Society shortly after. Nonetheless, didn't forget about Camp Cocker. I continued to follow Camp Cocker for the next 2 years and really got to know the organization. I got to know the volunteers and their voices. I got to know all of the dogs. I loved how I could follow video diaries of each dog and their medical treatments. I loved how Camp Cocker took in all of the seniors (Paddington was a senior when I rescued him too) and dogs with major medical. I completely fell in love with Sydney and her puppies and watched all of their journeys. I joined Club Wigglebutt and became a monthly donor and began to build a relationship with the organization. I became a supporter to the angels at Camp Cocker who give all of the fur babies a second chance. In March 2020, I was scrolling through Facebook and see Ginger at Camp Cocker in my news feed. She speaks to me through the screen and I feel compelled to apply again. "If it's meant to be, it will be," I thought. Soon after I had another screening call with a Camp Cocker volunteer that went fantastically. We set up time to do a virtual home tour (given COVID-19). That also went fantastically. The volunteer then told me I was top choice for Ginger. I was ecstatic. I tried not to get my hopes up given my previous experience, but now I understand that Camp Cocker does everything they can to find the perfect human for the dog, and the perfect dog for the human. That's a tough job! Ginger has joined our family and brought us so much joy over the past 6 months. Here are a couple of photos of her. I'm forever indebted to Camp Cocker for bringing Ginger to me, and I just encourage others who are applying for dogs to have an open mindset. If it's meant to be, it will be. If it doesn't happen right away, that doesn't mean it never will. The angels at Camp Cocker are some of the most selfless people I have ever met. This is a non profit organization that keeps their dogs much longer than necessary so they continue to solicit donations. Cathy, the founder will waste your time when you complete an application. That's what happened to me..waste of time, waste of money. There are plenty other cocker rescues that ACTUALLY do great work, this isn't one of them. She also raises and breeds horses for sale-somewhat contradictory for supposedly being an animal rescue. read more

My sister and I have both been following Camp Cocker Rescue for awhile. We admired all the people in this organization for rescuing such beautiful dogs and we even donated towards this rescue. We also have a cocker spaniel of our own and were hoping to rescue another one. However we were both rejected after providing our best answers on our application. 2 times. We seriously loved this rescue but were disappointed because it seemed impossible to even adopt one. But keep doing what you're doing this is a great rescue. read more

We adopted a precious little terrier mix you can tell Camp Cocker really cares about who adopts their rescues. They are very thorough and clear with the entire adoption process. My boyfriend and I came across our lovely pup, Adee, and Camp Cocker Rescue back in August while searching to find our potential new family member. When we discovered she was rescued by Camp Cocker, we did a deep dive into the Rescue and really appreciated everything they were doing for their pups and the effort they make to really ensure everyone finds their perfect home. The application process took about 30-60 minutes, then they reached out after reviewing our application to do a phone interview. We loved how dedicated they were in learning about us and telling us all about little Adee. They even had us do a virtual home tour to help us pup-proof our home before bringing her home with us. Camp Cocker Rescue is by far the best rescue organization starting with Cathy, the founder, and all the way to the many volunteers who help to rescue the dogs from the shelter. Cathy and her team are dedicated in rescuing all cocker spaniels no matter their age and medical condition. They immediately get the dogs checked by a vet and also specialists and will do whatever is needed to save these dogs. I have personally rescued 2 cocker spaniels from Camp Cocker Rescue who were both seniors and love them so much. Cathy supplies all the medical information to any adopter before any adoption is made. If one of the dogs is put in foster care, Cathy and the Foster Team tell you how the dog's personality is, if they are housebroken, if they get along with other dogs and/or children, etc. We also know that when we donate to Camp Cocker Rescue, our donation goes directly to a specific dog if we so choose. We met our beautiful little girl Dot back in 2017 at a Camp Cocker event at the Malibu Country Mart. Once we expressed interest, we were able to have our home check a few days later and were give our beautiful little lady shortly after. Initially when Dot came to live with us, she had a few issues getting her acclimated with our other dog. We immediately contacted Camp Cocker to give them the update. Cathy from Camp Cocker was a huge help. She recommended a few books to help us with Dot's boundaries and a trainer to work with our two pets. Both were a huge help and now our 2 dogs are best friends and attached at the hip. Since adopting Dot we have continued to follow Camp Cocker and I can truly say that the people who run the rescue are hero's. I have always loved cocker spaniels, and so I have been a big supporter of this rescue. When my furbaby, Buffy, passed away last year in October 2020, I was heartbroken, but I knew I wanted to adopt again. It was tough to find another cocker spaniel, so it is wonderful that Camp Cocker partners with a Korean dog rescue to bring disadvantaged pups from there to America. Their Freedom Flight Rescue program recently brought me my latest furbaby, Angel, and I couldn't be happier. He is exactly what I needed in my life. Camp Cocker did a wonderful job to match me up with the pupster that really fit perfectly into my home/life. I was fostering a dog and I told them I wanted to foster to adopt (I'm a vet tech) the dog was having some GI upset and when I emailed to let them know I was ready to adopt her they had told me she has a family just waiting for her lab results they came back positive for parasites. Even though she is extremely contagious and not in great health they are still willing to adopt her out. They don't care about the animals only how much they can get for them. Will never foster for them again read more

We've adopted from three rescues over the years and Camp Cocker has been the best experience we've ever had. They are responsive and thorough, including following up regularly post-adoption to make sure all is going well. Our little guy came from Korea and had been adopted and returned (through no fault of his), so the rescue was even more cautious about finding the best home for him. We're so glad we were the right fit. The boarding facility/daycare where he lived via the rescue right before us was very nice and helped make his transition to our home smooth. He came to us loving his crate and still likes sleeping in it, though he prefers our beds! For what it's worth, our pup is not a cocker spaniel; he's a Beagle/Dalmation/Shih Tzu mix. Camp Cocker brings in rescues from Korea to give them a better chance at a forever home and our pup was one of those. He's in great health and has a lovely disposition. We feel lucky to have found him thanks to Camp Cocker. read more
