Not sure why there's so many bad reviews.. Party of 7 for dinner, we had 3 different apps (fried green tomatoes, crab and artichoke dip, and the pretzel with beer cheese) and all different entrees, everything was absolutely delicious! All plates were empty. We sat on the deck which was wonderful, it was a beautiful evening. Our waitress was super friendly and even helped with recommendations on what to get for people that were undecided. We don't go out to eat in a hurry, but the service was not super slow for how busy they were. We were never without a drink, our appetizers came out quickly and we had time to finish them before our entrees came out. Overall a great experience! Awful service and wait time. Ordered a glass of wine, never arrived. Restaurant wasn't busy but waitress didn't check up on us for 40 minutes and wait time was an hour for our food. We came in for a long weekend to wonderful Berkeley Springs and had difficulty getting reservations at 2-3 places. We were able to get a table here so we figured we'd try it out! I'm so glad we did! Great menu, place was spacious and clean, servers were busy but friendly. We had the pulled pork nachos, veggie burger (warning: they served a Beyond Burger, which is not the same. I had the short ribs, mashed potatoes and asparagus and it was amazing. If I went back, I'd order the same thing. We had delicious mixed berry margaritas and it was probably the best non-margarita margarita I've ever had. Full of puréed berries yum! Stopped here on a Sunday night while making a short trip down this way. Had bookmarked this and seeing it was a newer place decided to give it a go. This place seems newly opened and the building newly created - things are still crisp and almost never touched - with grass still growing around sidewalks etc. The place is really designed well- with a large outdoor deck and seating areas inside as well with booths and table seating. One awesome option was in the booth - there are outlets that have USB hookups for charging phones. Well done. The menu is pretty straightforward - appetizers, sandwiches, barbecue, steaks - BUT also has gluten free options like the cauliflower pizza. Would have tried it but opted for straight meat. We shared the 6cheese cheese sticks - which were good but reminded me of just the ones you get in the freezer aisle. I ordered the Chesapeake burger - which comes with a crab cake on top. I ordered without the bun, and it came with homemade chips- I couldn't have them. The burger was properly cooked to medium - but again the burger felt more processed and perfectly shaped etc rather than shaped by hand? Crab cake was pretty small but good. The waitress who was very nice persuaded us into strawberry cake which was massive. Pretty incredible and one of the only desserts that at a price point of $7- was sized perfectly. HOWEVER!!!!!!! THE MAIN ISSUE!!!!! IS THE WIFI!!!!! There is ZERO NADA ZIP NULL service here - which is good seeing as they do have wifi which is free. I connected - and nothing. Turned off my phone. Reconnected. Nothing. Airplane mode for a minute. Reconnected. Nothing. A website I was told is to pop up and to click connect- problem is when it tried? It timed out again bc there was no service and it wasn't connecting to the WiFi yet bc I wasn't able to click the button or get to the website. This has to be fixed. Canary Grill is what you are looking for: a casual but nice place to eat lunch (or dinner) with an extensive but regular menu with room to breathe and friendly servers. It is clearly still "new" and well kept inside and out. I love the colors and design of the place! The booths are nice, the tables are plentiful but spaced out enough so that you aren't right next to your neighboring diners. No shortage of high chairs--or little kids! With that being said, I was there for lunch on a Sunday and though there were plenty of toddlers, there was a business lunch happening simultaneously with no problem; there is plenty of room inside for all. There also is a large deck that I will have to visit in warmer months. I was tickled by the HONEYPOTS sign by the restrooms. That's the sort of detail that brings a lot of charm to a place. This place should be a gold mine; in this case it is a coal mine:) Wonderful indoor and outdoor seating and with nice views of Berkeley Springs. However, it has gone down hill fast in a few short years! Their service is very slow; despite a few employees busting their humps. The problem is many employees are not working hard. We had a server named Virginia and she was wonderful, but she is in need of some serious help. Then there is the food; it was atrocious. We all looked around the restaurant and it was incredible how many tables were not bused and the amount of food left on every plate; our table included. This was not because of portion size either. Bottom line here is that this place needs new management, many new employees that care, and a new chef. Period! read more

This is a new restaurant in Berkley Springs. A bit sports bar, a bit contemporary eatery, casual and yet classy. It was highly recommended by some locals I befriended while i visiting in town. It is located high up on a slope above the main road. While I was there at night I could imagine the view could be very nice. They also have an outdoor seating area for when the weather is warmer. The wait staff was very friendly, courteous and professional...almost always good sign of what was to come. I ordered the teriyaki glazed steak. It was cooked perfectly and nicely tender. The teriyaki glaze was very tasty without hiding the beef flavor. The portion may be a bit small for someone with a hearty appetite but it was perfect for me. My server said that the ribs and the crabcakes are other favorites, soi guess I'll have come back to try them next time! read more

The service was absolutely terrible. We ordered 2 apps, 2 salads, and 2 entrees. The appetizers didn't appear for 20 minutes but at least the waitress came and apologized saying there was "a big table ahead of us". The problem was that the main course just came two minutes after the appetizers and the salads came immediately after that. So after sitting there for 20 - 30 minutes with nothing we got three courses each in the span of about two minutes. And the food was terrible. The pretzel was good but almost everything else was inedible. It was all frozen preheated crap. I ordered the catfish special and that was good but the fettuccini Alfredo was dreadful. Our server Olivia was outstanding, very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. Great price per serving . I ordered the barbecue platter with two sides for $21 dollars. That could be easily shared with two people. It was served hot and quick. I really liked that there was no upcharge to substitute my corn on the cob for a house salad ( which was so fresh and vibrant ) . What a quaint restaurant with a gorgeous view! We took a drive on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and spotted this place high up on the hill so we decided to stop for lunch. We opted to sit outside since the weather was so great and the view overlooking Berkeley Springs was amazing. We arrived just before 12pm and there was still plenty of seating available. They had an acoustic singer that played on the deck from 12pm - 2pm so our timing was perfect. They have 2-person high top tables, 4-top tables, and larger tables - so they can accommodate any group size. Their menu consists of multiple appetizer, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and BBQ. My husband had the brisket platter (with coleslaw and onion rings) and said several times that it was phenomenal. I had the Turkey Gouda sandwich with a side salad and ended up bringing half of the sandwich home. It was a a lot of food. They also offer a full bar menu with local beers on draft. The waitstaff was very attentive and we never had to wait long for anything. We would recommend this place and can't wait to stop in again! read more

Both my husband and I got a build your own canary burger. I built mine with the beyond burger and lots of toppings plus mashed potatoes. My husband got the beef burger with just cheese and ketchup plus mashed potatoes. Food came out tasty. There were a couple of minor issues but it turned out fine, nothing to even mention to the server. Only thing I would improve would be the mashed potatoes coming out hot, it seemed they were sitting for a couple minutes. My daughters meal had large portions and seemed good. We chose the outdoor seating, it was a beautiful evening. We had fried green beans for an appetizer. They were wonderful. My dinner was a veal steak with onion rings and macaroni with cheese. It was a mild cheese not a sauce. Onions were large and "meaty". I never had a veal steak before but it was great, with a demi glaze on top instead of gravy. Friends had salmon with veggies and ribeye with veggies. The vegetables were sautéed. There wasn't anything to complain about. The food was first rate as well as our waitress. We were a little hesitant based on the wide range of reviews but we are glad we went. Had a 6:30 reservation for four adults outside. We arrived on time and quickly seated. Within minutes, our server asked for drinks and we ordered an appetizer. Our wives ordered frozen margaritas. The pulled pork nachos were excellent, the blue moon pitchers of beer were good and the strawberry and mixed berries margaritas were excellent. They actually had real fruit pulp in them. For dinner we had a bbq salad, a spinach chicken strawberry salad, chef salad and country fried steak. The salads were excellent. It's a shame we couldn't have C a sampling of everything but we had a fried fish sub with all the fixings! The fish is nicely breaded and fried, served with cole slaw and warmed home made chips! I saw someone across the way with good looking Mac n cheese as well. The food is varied from appetizers to the main meal, sandwiches and entrees. They have cream of crab soup and a few fish dishes as well as burgers. Our waitress was great, checked on us, explained the menu. We sat on the balcony, sunny and breezy, large umbrellas and the restaurant is located atop a very large hill so the view is great and we had a nice breeze! I travel extensively and dine in all types of restaurants so I am not a snobbish reviewer. Had lunch here with my golf buddies today. The waiter was fine. Ordered a Reuben sandwich. There was more cheese( not a lot either) than the skimpy 1 thin slice of corned beef I have EVER seen on a Reuben. Moreover, the Reuben had an " upcharge" for the sandwich over the published menu price. Next, there was a charge of $3.75 for a basic iced tea (no sugar). I really wanted to like this place, but there were too many negatives. One problem from the start was that we had to wait for them to open their restaurant. It might seem like an insignificant thing, but we were traveling and wanted to make a quick stop, so opening 15 minutes late was the first negative. We asked to be seated outside and all tables were dirty where we were directed to sit. They had cloth table coverings on the tables that were heavily soiled, so we moved to the uncovered area and the table we sat at was still dirty but less visible because there was no cloth table covering on it. I ordered a brisket sandwich and the flavor was great but the meat was cold with the texture of lunchmeat, but it was indeed smoked. My husband ordered a lump crab sandwich and stated it was "ok". The whole reason for this post is for what happened prior to leaving. My husband went to the restroom. There is absolutely no working/functioning sinks, soap, and zero hand sanitizer. I am shocked and now question the sanitary conditions of our food that was prepped for us and considering if I should contact the health department. read more

Good food and the best little waitress in Berkeley Springs! It seems like the reviews for Canary Grill are very mixed, but the night I dined here with three friends, it was fabulous. Each of us loved what we ordered (sorry, I no longer remember) and felt that the meals were ample for the money. We each had a very good mixed drink. Some reviews cite poor service. I'm wondering if the restaurant has its peaks and valleys as far as hiring enough people, but we definitely hit it on a peak. Our waitress, Annie, was outstanding! We made quite a few little side requests, and she was on top of things. She checked on us frequently and was very pleasant. She had no problem splitting our bill into four separate checks. Friday after work, 8 of us came to Canary Grill for drinks and dinner. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and food. Served by Mary and Joe who greeted us immediately. Crab dip with crispy on the outside, soft bread on the inside. So smooth and delicious! Juicy Lucille is what I had with bacon fries. Burger was very tasty. I was expecting more cheese in the middle but so flavorful and fresh beef. The bun was perfect. Cheese fries were delish! Spiral, thick cottage fries with cheddar cheese and thick bacon. Soooo good. Coworker had a huge burger and fries. Another coworker had boneless wings. They both enjoyed their meals. This restaurant has a million dollar view of the mountains. Brand new building with a huge composite deck. Granite bathroom vanities were a nice touch. Will definitely come back for more evenings out. Try it! You won't be disappointed. read more

We have been driving thru Berkley Springs since our college days ( not telling you that date and this place is a gem. Beautiful restaurant, decor was adorable with the canary yellow accents. The food was Delicious! We all enjoyed our meals.. My daughter and I split the Chicken fried steak and so glad we did,, the portions were large and delightful.. Extra time was taken to make homemade dressings and chips. Will definitely stop again on our next trip thru B.S.! It would be 1 star for the food, but the service and ambiance redeemed it a bit. We stopped in once over the summer and had a good meal of wings, soup, and salad. We enjoyed it so much, we decided to return on our way back through town today. I'm not sure if they have changed ownership, but our experience was nothing like in the past. Two salads came out with rotten lettuce and slimy vegetables. The fruit that came with the children's meal was unrecognizable (bananas the consistency of melon, and a fruit the color and texture of tomato.) Even the waitress was unsure of what it was. It was obviously canned, which is not the quality I expect when coming out to eat. The children's pizza was so spicy that my husband, who enjoys spicy food, thought it had hot sauce on it. The chicken tenders were obviously frozen, had little meat, and were over cooked. Our waitress was very polite and did her best to make it right, but save yourself the wasted time and money if eating fresh, quality ingredients is important to you. Somehow it was still over $40 for two kids meals, two drinks, and a burger with no sides. No reason to recommend or return- you'd be better off at McDonald's or Dairy Queen down the street for half the price and equal quality. read more

Our first trip to Canary Grill in Berkeley Springs, WV, and definitely our last. What a huge disappointment! Every single meal item we ordered was awful! The mahi had a very strong smell, concerning that it might not be good (?). The broccoli was cold and undercooked. The mac and cheese was flavorless, as was the coleslaw. The loaded fries were plain and boring. Even our 2-year-old could not eat the pasta or drink her juice. None of us finished our food as it was simply awful! The food was great. The service was very poor. We had reservations, had to wait over 30 minutes to be seated and the table was messy, mayonnaise on the seat , underneath side of the table. The server needed some lessons in customer service and how to service a table. They left the appetizer dirty plates on the table until we were almost done with dinner. Didn't ask if we wanted desert or anything. I have been there several times in the past and it was wonderful, but this last visit made me not want to return. The taste of the burger is wonderful. Very flavorful and juicy. It came with house made chips that were good and well seasoned. They do have several options on the menu including pasta, seafood, ribs, sandwiches and more. They have a full bar selection. The restaurant was very clean! They have a very nice sized deck with cushioned seats that would be great in the summer. If you are looking for a place to eat, I highly recommend trying this place! read more
