Anyway, we arrived around an hour before close, most places in this area close at 9pm btw. We were greeted by the host who walked in from near the kitchen area. We decided to sit outdoors since the weather was pleasant. We found a table for two near the projector showing a muted black and white film on the brick wall. The chairs had blankets over them just in case it gets chilly at night. It was very thoughtful. I decided to order their special 3 course meal including a white wine ($45!). It was like they had their own restaurant week specials like SF but I don't believe that exists in Marin. The 3 course meal included a beet salad, pasta (it was the screw shaped kind) with Bolognese and a tiramisu which was my fav of all 3. The white wine was a bit on the sweet side. My husband had the pappardelle pasta with oxtail. That was a treat! I liked his dish more than mine but all of it was so much we had to take half home! Came in there and the worker offered us whatever samples we wanted and we immediately noticed the really interesting but unusual flavors that they had. Of the classic type flavors, we really liked the brown sugar vanilla and the breakfast cereal one. The cherry special drink and the grapfruit one also tasted quite nice. But the ones that stood out the most were the thom ka and the chaat masala ones. while the chaat masala didnt end up having that distinct tanginess you might expect, the thom ka ice cream was mind blowing. It tasted exactly like having the soup but in a cool and refreshingly creamy dessert form. My mind couldn't really process it other than the fact that it was delicious. We ended up opting to pair the thom ka and the brown sugar vanilla to have a "normal" flavor to offset the unusualness of having a thai soup ice cream. We honestly could not get enough of it - it easily was one of the best ice cream scoops we had ever had and it being a plant based ice cream was insanely impressive. Frankie & Jo's will definitely be a place we will be returning to especially as the new seasonal flavors roll out so we can see what other concoctions they might be able to try and conquer.

It's the perfect spot sandwiched in between all of the above for truly any time of day. Arriving mid-morning, we wanted to try something unique and different from their seasonal menu. Continuing on my search for trending happiness in a cup, we ordered the Banana Cream (cold brew topped with banana cold foam). Banana is having a moment, and we're here for it! It's so refreshing and delicious. I love banana, so this was right up my alley! Looks like other banana flavored drinks offered are the Banana Matcha Cloud and the Iced Caramelized Banana Latte. Def recommend if banana is in your top five rotation of the summer too. We also grabbed a pack of their seasonal beans for home, the Super Bloom blend ~ a light roast for the spring season! I did reach out to management to share my concerns, and they were very receptive and kind about it. But, the issues with the employees in the shop continue. There's a new-ish batch of employees and the vibe is not the same. On the last few visits, I experienced some hiccups with my name or order. On my visit today, I was returning a bag of coffee that had been ground incorrectly (we did an online order, asked for French press-coarse- online, and yet we got the finest grind). This is sadly the second time this has happened. We had so many bags of coffee prior to with no issues, and now the last two have been wrong. Moving forward if we come here, we will check the grind before we leave the shop. The lack of education with this new batch of people is really upsetting. The guy today didn't understand what I was asking, and instead he wanted to charge me for the bag of coffee. Another employee told me they couldn't re-grind the coffee to make it more coarse. Oh my. I had to explain to another employee that this bag was wrong, and we would need a new bag, and with the coarse/ French press grind. I showed them all my phone, opened up to the app and our order, with the line item of fresh press/coarse grind. Then a nice employee that was very busy jumped in and explained it to them as well. It took 3 employees to figure it out. This location is always busy, as it's the downtown Larkspur hub for cyclists, families with young kids, and execs. I've heard others complaining to each other about this same issue. It's a bummer that it now just feels more like a corp coffee chain pushing out product vs the warm, welcoming small town top notch employees they had that always greeted you, and were chatty and efficient even when things got crazy busy there.
