I like the food and the people are nice. I liked the old owners better than the current ones because things were a little more affordable and people knew me when I walked in. Wish they wouldve kept some of the old staff. This place is still good though which is why theyre getting 4/5 stars. Wish their specials would start a little earlier for those of us that get lunches before 1:30 ( my lunch is at 11:30 ) or else I would come more often. read more

Food is overpriced for the quality. The champurrado also needs works. It's so thick, little flavor, and has hard particles in it. The particles could either be from the cloves or cinnamon. It's so hard to drink and enjoy. The pan dulces are a hit or miss. Some are fresh and some are hard. Why mix in old pan dulce with fresh ones? This lowers the overall quality. My review is for the service and pan dulce. Canela Bakery is a local bakery in Montebello that is unique. They are a hybrid bakery and restaurant. There are tables to dine in for a quick meal. With the bakery side you grab a tray and pick whatever you want. There are about 4 parking spots at their private lot and there's street parking as well. I visited Canela Bakery to pick up one of their toogoodtogo bags since I was craving pan dulce. Such an amazing deal and variety. $4.99 for 11 pan dulce. From my experience, staff were sweet and friendly. They prepared a bag for me right away. The paper bag was also in a plastic bag for easy transportation. I was worried about the bread being hard but mine wasn't. I enjoyed the variety and everything I got. I definitely recommend and will come back when I finish these! read more

Found this place by a referral from a nearby bakery I visited today. I asked where I could find tamales? I remembered that Xmas season is high time for tamales and I was hoping to score some today. It's one of my husbands favorite food. There is very limited parking spots at the storefront which is located at a busy corner intersection. I decided I should try to park along the street and walk to the shop. Inside the shop, I was greeted nicely . There are some tables for dining in. Nothing fancy, but you can choose to eat here if you want to. There are many things to order besides tamales! They have burritos, tortas, combo plates, soups, tacos, tamales, drinks , pastries, cookies and specials of the day. The young lady at the counter was pleasant and waited patiently while I asked her a couple questions and then took my order. I got 1/2 dozen chicken(pollo) with green sauce ( verde). My order was ready in no time, about 5 minutes. My tamales were fresh and hot! I didn't really expect it to be. My husband got a nice treat when I got home. He eats it plain. Btw, the menu is in Spanish. My high school Spanish came in handy. Although the young miss who helped me spoke English. * FYI, I noticed after I paid that there are different prices for the items. Canela's Bakery is an awesome bakery! The staff are also always so sweet and kind. I've been here and few times before and their food never disappoints! Their pupusas are mouth watering, and so are their burritos. I brought my mom today to try their food after doing a self-care day. The bakery was nice and clean. We came for lunch and ordered the chilaquiles and they were BOMB! We ordered a tamale each as well, a coffee and Agua Fresca Jamaica. I love that Jamaica wasn't too sweet and freshly made. The food was so delicious, my mom loved it! She loves seeing the display case of all the fun themed Pan Dulce options. We bought a few Pan Dulce to take home and share. They have a such a variety! If you haven't tried this spot, it's a must! They have a great variety of home cooked food on their menu. Everything for soups, tortas, pupusas, chilaquiles, burritos and more! Not just a Mexican Bakery. It's also a cafe/restaurant. They have a great variety of Mexican food dishes ranging from Soups, tortas, burritos and plates. This is not your fine dining (if thats what you are into, sorry ...this isn't for you). This is just great food you grew up with (in a Mexican house hold) at a reasonable price. This use to be my go to place for a good bit to eat of mexican food for a reasonable price , they had the burrito and a coke for 10 bucks and a two tacos and a coke for under 4.50 then the business got sold and the new owner don't have good cooks the male owner is a rude man and they increased the prices and got really tight with the taco special it's now a one bit taco and no more burrito special I don't mind paying more but the food has to have flavor and that is not the case anymore the only thing that got better is their tamales Don't go there anymore as often sucks cuz I really enjoyed their food read more

This is a cute Mexican bakery that I had been to before. We were passing by and decided to try a tamale. I got the red pork and JJ got the green Chile and cheese (Rajas) ($2.50 each). I also love pan dulce, and got a concha, and JJ got a peanut butter cookie. Sadly, the pork tamale was extremely dry (the meat). The masa was good however, and flavorful. I did eat the whole thing though, but would definitely not recommend this and would never get it again. The pan dulce- concha was also very disappointing. It was a bit stale, and I wouldn't recommend this either. JJ however, enjoyed his green Chile and cheese tamale. He said it was good, but I didn't taste it. He also said the peanut butter cookie was good. I did taste this, and it was good. Very soft and crumbly..tasty overall. The interior has a few small tables where you can sit down and eat. Nice ambience. They also have their own parking lot. I wouldn't completely rule out Canela's Bakery, as there are some items that are good. The bread was really soft and the flavors had a good splash of depth to them. All the breads look really good, so you have lots of options!

Ever since the place was sold with new owners now the quality went down. The food is very bland and at times tasted like too.much garlic. The meat in the burrito had a lot of tendon and the fish in the taco was kind of mushy. The chicken soup was also lacking with not much flavor and something that look like potato was not potato. Im very saddened becasue I had a difficult time staying away in the past as I was trying to improve on my diet, but now it is not longer a temptation. read more

This review is for the tamales,, this place is under new ownership, I used to go in before and buy my tamales. They were very good and I had no issues with them. I tried them recently under the new management. The MASA was good, but there is just no meat inside of them. Very disappointing for the price there should be some more meat inside. place is still very clean and presentable. read more

Food is fair, the chile relleno did not taste fresh plus filled with a different queso fresh cheese, not jack which I enjoy. Problem with requesting an exchange server talked it over then when manager arrived they discussed it with him and manager came to explain they could not exchange for a different food due to they would have to throw it away. The tamales have become bland, and the champurrado is clumpy, which is really disappointing after being a customer for so long. I was looking for a spot to eat menudo before dropping my vehicle to get it serviced for my upholstery in Montebello my old stopping grounds. I came by this bakery which I had tamales before but wanted menudo. Well the menudo comes in a plastic bowl which is did the job but the best part it was delicious. The young lady was courteous and the bakery about tables to seat and Mexican music in the background. Definitely cozy mom and pops spot parking is limited but but plenty on the street. Overall nice spot and definitely coming back to try the Mexican sweet bread and again very chill spot. read more

Went to this location and used a "togoodtogo" Waited a few minutes at 205 pm and when I arrived home the bakery items had to been from day before All were so stale except for one item. I didn't get this for free it costs me time and gas and the fee for item. I had to throw them away. The store was older could use a face lift The items on display looked nice , I got none in my bag! Brought my dad for some tamales and I noticed it's new ownership because they are upgrading many things also everything is now stocked and not sold out. The new owners are super sweet and attentive to the customers. The location was a little warm but noticed that they have constant fresh bread coming out. I purchased tamales which were so good! The coffee was fresh and my dad got Chilaquiles, he loved them. The price was surprisingly cheap. The salad burrito was so delicious and their hot sauce was amazing 100% recommended for a breakfast in the morning.
