We've been coming to this location for years although it has gone through a number of ownership and name changes. The location is a few hundred yards from the Lake Lure Dam which would normally provide a gorgeous view of the lake, unfortunately like the lake it appears the restaurants in the area are still recovering from the impact from Hurricane Helene. We made a reservation for nine and were seated immediately upon arriving, the restaurant decor hasn't changed much over the years and like all our other visits the staff here has been gracious and very accommodating. Like one would expect the menu has undergone lots of changes so we were all excited to try something new. Although this restaurant was mostly empty it seemed the kitchen struggled to get the food out and was kinda disappointing when it arrived, it's apparent the kitchen staff isn't nearly at the level it once was so we all attributed the food quality to the struggles all the restaurants seem to be having during the areas continued recovery. We ordered a variety of dishes and all seemed to be very bland and flavorless. the portions were fine as were the prices but nothing here was memorable to anyone in our group - I ordered steamed mussels which was served luke warm and lacked any broth for dipping the toast and probably a quarter of the mussels weren't open so I discarded those, we also order the shrimp scampi pasta and it was just as disappointing no flavor. The beer was cold and the cocktails were crafted with generous pours and having dinner with friends who also traveled here was amazing - we all knew this years experience would be different but we definitely wanted to support the area restaurants. I'm sure this place will improve as things move forward so we'll return during our next visit to the Lake Lure area...

Black Jack chicken sandwich - just ok

Went here to eat around 6pm on a Friday night. Our party of 5 was the only table sat in the entire place, which should have been a warning. Waitress greats us, promptly informs us they are out of fries and kettle chips were the replacement. Also out of pasta (yes, pasta) - so shrimp scampi on the menu would be just... a plate of shrimp? Our orders included a burger, two chicken sandwiches, a BLT and chicken tenders. The menu only has tenders under the kids section, but we were told there was an "adult" button on the ordering system so they could do that. Why not just have it on the menu? Anyways, AFTER the orders were taken and relayed to the kitchen the waitress came back and informed us they don't actually have chicken tenders - it's chicken nuggets. Apparently they saw no problem with this because "chicken is chicken"?! Kinda like ordering a steak and getting a burger? Beef is beef right? Meals came out and the burger and chicken sandwiches were just ok. Bacon on the BLT and on the chicken sandwiches looked to be straight of the microwave, but can't confirm that.... But the chicken nuggets? Seriously this place should be ashamed to put this on a plate and serve it. Obviously frozen straight from a bag and should only be served to a toddler, and that's a stretch. Maybe this place is better during the busier season... but my vote is try somewhere else because today was a disappointment in every way.

This little restaurant and bar is on the way into the town of Lake Lure. . Most things around here are a little high in prices just for a burger or chicken sandwich so I went for something different with the fried plantains with avocado and cherry tomatoes. It was delicious! Very cute interior with table games for you to play to help pass time. Even though the lake has suffered severe damage, there is still a beautiful view from outside on the patio.

Love love love this little spot. Stumbled upon it by accident after a visit to Chimney Rock. Lovely atmosphere and delicious food. Service was impeccable. Can't wait to go back!! View from my seat.

    highlands reserve shrimp tacos

this review is based solely on the food. I cant give this place anymore chances. I ordered blackened shrimp tacos. the shrimp had ZERO seasoning not even salt or pepper but it wouldnt have mattered the shrimp were not even edible. the driest and most rubbery shrimp I have ever eaten. you can tell they buy already cooked frozen shrimp then they over cook them on top of that. 3 small unseasoned rubber shrimp on each taco with NOTHING else on the plate for $19. wow! that is 100% unacceptable anywhere. high end restaurants do not even charge that. the same exact lunch at highlands reserve had 4 well seasoned shrimp on each taco that was loaded and that included chips and homemade salsa with a great presentation for the EXACT same price. photo on the right is obviously the canoe and photo on the left is highlands. the canoe should be ashamed and it is very disappointing this is a great looking restaurant with great views but someone has zero clue how to run a restaurant or how to cook. i wish them the best of luck!

The food is great, heavy pours for wine and great overall vibe! Love going to canoe to listen to live music and enjoy the super friendly staff! Bonus is the beautiful sunset with mountains in the background. We go to Canoe every time we are in Lake Lure!

Beautiful scenery of Lake Lure and Bald Mountain behind. Had a lovely late lunch that was delicious. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The owner stopped by to be sure we were happy with our meal. Will happily return the next time we're in the area. Plenty of on site parking and outside dining as well!

A cozy seating area with large table 3 chairs and couch . Spectacular views all around .

So glad we stopped at Canoe after a gorgeous day at Chimney Rock Park! Cozy in the best way. We both had the Mahi sandwich and would order it again because it was that good. Service was great! We learned that they opened right before Helene but persevered to help make sure the workers etc were nourished. This is a gem and if you like historical value , it has this as well! I will be back with my husband very soon!

It looks like they also have two bar places to sit at and enjoy food. Curate was nicely decorated on the inside. The space was clean and welcoming. Restrooms: They have two gender neutral bathrooms. One restroom has a changing pad for babies. The restrooms were nice and clean. Service: All the staff we encountered were very friendly. The staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and dishes. The food came out quickly. When we did call about a high chair, it took about 3 calls to finally talk to someone about it. They do have high chairs for babies. Food: We came here because it was recommended by several people to try. We thought the food was good. We have several similar tapas restaurants back at home to compare too and we felt the food was good but not extraordinary in our opinion based off the hype Curate has received. We tried their 'Croquetas de Jamon' to start. They were good, but definitely tasted better with the recommended hot sauce. We also tried their 'Roasted Seasonal Pepper Special' (it wasn't on the menu but recommended by our waitress) and it was ok. It could've used more seasoning and salt in my opinion. Next we tried their 'Berenjenas Con Miel' or fried eggplant, that was really good. We loved the salty and sweetness of the dish. It also wasn't heavy or greasy. Lastly, we shared their 'Arroz de Temporada' paella. That was my favorite dish, the sausage was so flavorful and I loved the burst of the tomatoes. The rice was cooked to perfection. It's definitely enough to share between just two people. Overall, I wasn't blown away by the food like I was expecting. I feel like there might've been dishes we should've tried to really give us that wow factor. This seems like a nice place to come for a nice meal. If we're ever in the Asheville area again, I'd be willing to give them one more try.

Even when crowded, the spacing of the tables and overall layout ensured it never got too loud. The food was amazing!! My mom and I split several tapas, my favorite was probably the green beans! Everything we had was delicious- the paella, the charred green beans, the grilled Caesar. The cocktails were also really good and worth treating yourself. If you can, save room for dessert! They had a nice range on their dessert menu and I gobbled up the pot de crème. Our waiter was fantastic, checked on us throughout the meal, kept our waters full and made sure we had what we needed. Also, the bathroom smelled AMAZING. It is known as a Spanish and Mediterranean restaurant that serves various tapas. There is a lot of indoor seating as well as some outdoor seating, which is decorated elegantly. The ambiance is moody and somewhat upscale for a small town. I found the service to be solid. My friend and I got the Bruschetta Whipped Ricotta, Shrimp Tacos, Moroccan Chicken Tagine, Argentinian Roast Pork Sliders, and Bourbon Pecan Pie. In terms of the tapas, the Moroccan Chicken Tagine was delicious! It is a hearty and herby stew with shredded chicken that comes with this (complimentary?) warm and fluffy bread to dip into the stew. I was disappointed in the Bruschetta Whipped Ricotta. While the pita chip by itself was good, the toppings of sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke, and herbs on it made it taste more like a slice of pizza with tomato sauce. The Shrimp Tacos were decent. I could tell that the shrimp was seasoned, potentially a bit overseasoned, and the chipotle aioli gave it a good taste. The best dish for me was the Bourbon Pecan Pie. It came out piping hot but when paired with the vanilla ice cream, it melted in my mouth. I also did not find it too sweet, which was a plus for me! Overall, I think Boca is a lovely spot for a date night. The food leaves more to be wanted though, especially when basing items off of Moroccan and Spanish flavors. I am also biased coming from a larger city where this type of food was popular and readily available. I would probably rate this spot a 3.75/5 stars if I could.

It just came off as a statement that implied they know their food is good so who cares about any of the other bits of restaurant decor or presentation?
