My friend and I ate here on our last night at the Mauna Lani. We'd heard great things about this restaurant due to its executive chef being a Top Chef winner. We ordered the following: Shokupan Pull-apart Bread: 5/5 Delicious, light and fluffy. The butter was also great. I didn't realize how large this was going to be. It's definitely a great shareable for 4-5 people. Shishito Peppers: 5/5 Beef + Foie Gras Gyoza: 2/5 I had high expectations for this dish but ended up not loving it. The gyoza skin was chewy and cold, and the filling was just mushy and I didn't get a great foie gras flavor. 24 Oz Bone-in Dry Aged Ribeye: 3/5 The meat quality was decent but had quite a bit of fat that we skipped over. It was cooked how we wanted it (medium), but was overly salty. Garlic Fried Rice: 4/5 We loved this fried rice but it was also extremely salty. Service was great and overall, we enjoyed our meal. The saltiness was just hard to deal with and made it hard to finish the steak and rice.
We come to the Big Island annually and regarding food we only have 2 required places. Canoe House is one of them and is the fancier of the two. (Huggos in Kona is the other). We love Canoe House so much that we planned our son's wedding party dinner here and BOY did they deliver! We had a party of 20 which meant a pre-fixe menu. Normally I'm not a fan of those, but Jonathon made the entire process so easy planning and executing. Everything was perfect! The view, the setup, the service, the staff, the timing on courses, the drinks, the communication, and the star of the show, the food! 5 stars. We all felt like royalty. Everyone raved at all I just mentioned, the food was ridiculously good and the presentation of it was just as good. The flavors are exploding and they all danced together in your mouth like a symphony. The bread is non-negotiable. It's a show stealer. The fried rice is also amazing and raved about by so many reviewers. The appetizers were stupid good: lobster tempura, sashimi looked like art and tasted like perfection, along with the ridiculously good shishito peppers that were devoured. The Short rib though was the show stopper and everyone and I mean everyone could not stop talking about it! Holy Cow! Did I mention the location and views! I kid you not, it looks like AI on a screen, but it's real life. It doesn't look real, and yet... it is... perfection. Everything and every detail was perfect. They deliver that excellence every time to every table. The food is always on point. The service is always on point and the view is better than the mind can fathom (if you haven't experienced it yourself). Do yourself a favor and invest in making a memory at Canoe House.
Overpriced for what was offered especially for the presentation aspect. To be honest, I was really disappointed by the menu options. There wasn't anything really calling to me that made it seem like the price was worth it so we ordered small plates. If the restaurant is labeled $$$$, I expect everything to be above and beyond. Food 2/5 'Ula 'Ula Hale $18 - Sangria was delicious, loved it. Voyager $25 - Whiskey, cute restaurant logo on the ice. Chilled Oysters $14 ($7ea) - Worth a try, tasted good. Shokupan $18 - Bread with butter. Not a fan of the seeds on the bread but can't really go wrong with this option. Gyoza $18 - Delicious with a flavorful sauce. Hamachi & Uni $28 - Disappointed by the presentation but tasted just fine. We were offered macarons for my birthday which was lovely. Ambiance 3/5 Gorgeous hotel and the view is great when heading to the restaurant but really dark at night. Dining area is huge, indoor and outdoor. We had a table on the in the back corner on the sand. Great view to see everything but it's incredibly dark with minimal lighting. Service 3/5 Our server was nice but nothing special.
Chef Rhoda from Top Chef iykyk! Had a Mai Tai, glass of red wine, 8oz Prime Tenderloin, and mango sticky rice. Everything was delicious! Exquisite!! Definitely pricey as it's located in the Mauna Lani resort and primarily caters to tourists in the area but the food was to die for, service was attentive when needed but not over-bearing, and it's situated right on the beach. Open air concept and overall beach vibes/ The White Lotus season 1 decor very similar to other restaurants in the nearby. Lol. There also seems to be a house cat named Grumbles that freely roams around. Tell him I said "Hi!"
My wife and I got last minute reservations to Canoe House on a Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m. Despite having missed the sunset, we still had a very lovely dinner. We saw from Yelp photos that Canoe House offered a tasting menu at some point in time, but during our visit, it was more of an impromptu tasting menu of sorts -- created by our server, rather than an official one with a set beverage pairing. In any case, we still had a wonderful experience ordering items a la carte. Before diving into the food, I wanted to call out the outstanding service at Canoe House. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and our server started and ended the meal with a round of congratulations. Throughout our meal, our server was super attentive and there was never a moment when our water cups were empty. Empty plates were promptly cleared, cutlery was refreshed when it was needed, and whenever a dish was brought over, he would carefully slide things around on the table so dishes were accessible and not overcrowding. Friendly, professional service of this level is honestly hard to find these days outside of Michelin dining establishments. My wife and I started our meal off with the large loaf of pull-apart milk bread ($18). The milk bread was incredibly fluffy and the outside was finished with some honey and sea salt. The sweet cream butter was rich and had the perfect spreadable consistency. As tempting as it is to want to finish the loaf, you'll definitely want to safe your stomach for the rest of the meal. The next items that we ordered were two chilled oysters ($7/piece), and a hamachi + uni citrus salad ($14). Since we were dining as a couple, our server informed us that we could actually order half-portions of some of the dishes. This was a perfect way to not fill-up before our mains arrived, so we did that for both the salad and the gyozas. The uni in the salad was melt in your mouth tender and had a delicious sweetness to it. I thought the hamachi in the salad was a bit unremarkable: it was certainly fresh and there were two generously sized pieces in the dish, but the fish definitely needed a bit more salt to it. Our next and last appetizer to arrive was the beef and foie gras gyoza ($7/piece). The chili garlic ponzu sauce the gyoza is resting leans towards the sour side, but that's my personal preference when it comes to dumpling sauces so I really enjoyed it. The filling inside the gyoza was on the leaner side compared to your typical pork and cabbage dumpling, but I didn't mind this too much since there was so much sauce in the bowl to accommodate the dumpling. The next four items we ordered all arrived together: the garlic fried rice ($32), the Kona kanpachi ($67), the Iberico char siu pork ($65), and the side of sugar snap peas ($22). Of these items, my favorite bites were the Iberico pork followed closely by the garlic fried rice and the sugar snap peas. If we could've ordered one fewer dish, it definitely would have been the Kona kanpachi. While the fish was flakey tender and the the skin was cooked to be perfectly crunchy, the portion size was far too large for two, and I thought the coconut ginger sauce felt a bit diluted and not as flavorful as advertised. I wish our server warned us that we had ordered way too much food, because we brought 85% of this dish home as leftovers. While I don't necessarily mind having leftovers, having leftovers on vacation -- with less than ideal heating methods available (i.e. hotel microwave), is not great. Overall, I couldn't help but feel this dish was somewhat a waste of money for the two of us. On the other hand, the Iberico char siu is a dish I'd order again and again if I were to come back. The pork was lean and grilled to perfection. The charred end pieces were some of my favorite bites of the night. I didn't miss the fatty bits that are typically present on a piece of char siu pork, and the mustard that accompanied the dish was not over the top spicy like some of the mustards you find at dim sum restaurants. The garlic fried rice was packed with so much garlic flavor. One criticism I had with the dish though is I wish the hot sizzling plate the dish was served on was even hotter. The rice that was in contact with the plate didn't crisp up in the same way that it would with a Korean bibimbap served in a hot stone bowl, or the socarrat at the bottom of a Spanish paella. Nonetheless, the dish was well-seasoned. If you want to save a bit on carbs and not fill up, you might want to skip this dish. Overall, the dining under the stars experience at Canoe House is hard to beat. The service is incredible, the included validated valet parking experience is seamless, the ambience of the hotel where the restaurant is located is breathtaking, and Chef Rhoda has really done an wonderful job with the vast majority of the items we tried. I would not hesitate to recommend Canoe House for celebrating a special occasion if you're visiting Hawaiʻi.
We came here on our last night with a group of eight. The setting was beautiful, and the service was excellent throughout the evening. The prices are definitely on the higher side, but you're paying for the ambiance and experience. We ordered the lamb chops, steak, shishito peppers, a whole fried red snapper, and a variety of drinks. It was my first time trying a whole fried fish, and the red snapper was absolutely delicious. If you plan to visit, try to come early so you can enjoy the sunset, we arrived later, so it was already dark. Overall, it was a great dining experience and a memorable way to end our trip.
Holy cow... the flavors were so unique and I've never had something like this before. You'd think you tasted similar things since it's all the same sauce bases but they pair it so perfectly together to make a delicious dish. The red cabbage salad had a yuzu/soy dressing and came with dates. So. Good. I assumed it was overpriced for a salad with so little but honestly it shined. The pull apart bread was good and warm but nothing special. Filling! The garlic fried rice? Idk how they make it so good it sounds so basic but it was the perfect seasonings where you don't feel the icky garlic breath but each bite was so savory and yum! Mahi mahi dish - the roasted carrots were my absolute favorite. How do they carmelize them that well idk, The pork dish was also killer. I loved the yuzu mustard sauce and the pork was super tender and juicy. Again, not usually a pork fan but this one nailed it!! Friendly staff - they were very attentive and helped clean up a spill that we accidentally made within a matter of seconds :-) thanks!
Ambiance - Amazing. What to expect from this company and all of their locations across the world. Beautiful beachfront location with tiki torches and fire pits right on the water. Our dining spot was a legit wrap around couch which was amazing for our son's 4th birthday. Always a 5 plus star ambiance. Service - 5 stars. Not only was our waitress extremely educated on every selection on the menu, but so were the helpers. Food - the reason for my 4 stars. The sashimi poke was a 3star for sure. Lukewarm, zero to no flavor at all. Hard pass when I end up looking at pricing at the end of the evening and I seriously wanted to see what it costed because I should've sent it back. The boxed bread was pretty good but I felt like it was more artistic in sight than it was in my mouth. The salted butter made it more unique tasting but just bread. Garlic Fried rice we ordered because it was "popular". 4/5 but really was actually what you'd imagine. I could go with or without it. Australia Waygu short rib was a 5/5. It was kinda pot roast feeling but man the curry made it slammin fashooo. Luckily we weren't that into the bread so we had more than half of it left to make sure whoever did the dishes had an easy job cleaning up. I don't think we left any moisture on the plate. I will be recreating this in my slow cooker at home. Amazing Fish of the day aka Mahi Mahi. Man we went against everything we know. Fish of the day, fish special, anything that seems to be mentioned heavily and on the seafood side should always be what you avoided. Well, we didn't. My wife likes it, but for me it was a 2/5 at best. On its own it was a 0/5 but mixed with its dressing and everything else it came with it was a solid 2/5. Extremely fishy and went along with the appetizer. Should've sent it back. Dessert - 2/5 and another letdown. The butterscotch miso was unique but for myself it missed almost completely. Comes with entirely too much sauce that the server actually applies to the desert instead of leaving it as a dipping sauce. By the time you're 2 bites in; the ice cream is mixed in with the butterscotch and it's just lost in translation. Hard no for me. My son for the macaroons for his dessert and I'd say a 5/5 as he threatened me if I touched them, and the sticky rice my wife had I'd say was a 4/5 and something I'd order, but wasn't anything out of the normal for me. The menu is small but in actuality extensive with enough selections to want to go back. I'd recommend this place to anyone off the location and service alone but also knowing the things they did right, stood out.
Drove up from Kona (30 minutes) to enjoy an outstanding anniversary dinner! Arrived at opening time and decided to dine outside with an amazing ocean view of sunset. Waiter and other staff immediately engaged us and we spent the next couple hours eating and chatting (which is to say he made sure everything was moving along well having suggested some recommendations we ordered.) To begin, we shared a Waygu Tataki plate of warmly seared beef and delicious ponzu sauce. We then had broiled Kanpachi farmed off the Kona coast, and finished up with a simple dessert of the Canoehouse Sundae made with miso butterscotch, furikake tuile, toasted buckwheat. I'll admit I had to think whether to order this seemingly strange mixture but, perhaps no surprise, it was delicious. So a marvelous meal in a very special setting with my very special partner of 51 years.
Loved it, very windy when we went but still yummy! The pour over Carmel waffle sundae is amazing! I loved my tofu cabbage and hubby loved the mahi mahi catch of the day. So good. Drinks and service were fabulous ! Highly recommend and beautiful scenery with ocean views!
Amazing food and wonderful experience. We were staying at the Mauna Lani, and had to try its signature restaurant (especially since a few in our party were big fans of Chef Rhoda in Top Chef). Each dish we tried had an amazing mix of flavors. Everything was fresh, even the pull apart bread. I opted for the Ahi Tuna, and it was cooked to perfection. The oysters were excellent as well. We also LOVED the ambiance. It seems most tables, whether indoors or outside, faced the ocean with an open concept. Therefore, even the indoor tables are technically outdoors. This was the perfect set up to watch an amazing Hawaiian sunset during dinner. As expected the service was very friendly and attentive. This is one of those must visit spots on the big island. Even if we don't stay at the Mauna Lani next visit, we're definitely going to still visit this place.
Stayed at Mauna Lani, so we had to try Canoe House for a nice dinner with a few girlfriends. The food came out beautifully. We ordered the lamb chops, roasted potatoes, and a colada. The lamb was tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of fat, and the potatoes were perfectly crispy. The colada was pretty strong, which I liked, though my friends wished it was a bit sweeter and more balanced. The restaurant is stunning at night, and our waiter was so kind -- he even took the drinks off the bill when he saw my friends didn't enjoy them. Definitely worth visiting if you're staying in Mauna Lani. Food: 8.8/10 Service: 9/10 (forgot to take our card for a while after we said we had to leave) Ambience: 9/10
this is the spot for a special occasion. the prices are a little crazy yes, but the view of the ocean is spectacular and the food and service are fantastic. i was surprised to find huge portions as well. we started with the milk bread and wagyu dumplings. i will say the dumplings were the weakest of the night for me, they sauce was delicious but the foie gras was undetectable in the filling. still tasty but nothing groundbreaking. the hit of the night was the massaman shortribs. the portion was very generous and certainly easy to split between two people. it was rich and tender without being heavy or one note. konpachi was also delicate and well balanced. for dessert we received some macaroons for birthday celebration and the wonderful sundae. simple but elevated. it was a magical night!

Proposed to my girlfriend of 8 years here. She said yes of course, but I couldn't be happier with how helpful the staff was. Allowed me to book the perfect table, helped with pictures, and even brought out a congratulations desert on the house. They went above and beyond calling me about 3 times in the week leading up to our reservation including a call the day of to alert me of the weather asking me if we needed to change plans. Weather was fantastic, we lucked out as there was predicted rain (rare occurrence in this part of Hawaii) Couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. We did the 6 course chefs dinner accompanied by a few cocktails on their drink list. Everything we tried was great. The steak and crab courses were my favorites. Highly recommend. Awesome food. About as good as it gets. If you can afford it just get the Chef's menu WITH wine pairing, trust me. Well-executed, unique menu items that leave you longing for more. The corn ribs are a must, and the Lobster Tempura was surprisingly addictive. Any seafood on the menu is going to be the best of the best. read more

The dishes we had here were amazing--fresh, flavorful, and creative! It's definitely pricey but worth the experience. We did the tasting menu ($155pp), which was great, but the portions were small. During our second meal, we created our own tasting menu--ordered approximately the same in cost and got way more food. Our favorite dish/s were the shrimp and lobster tempura. It was phenomenal. We got the salad and that was the most disappointing and wouldn't order that again. Overall, we really enjoyed our dining experience and the views and ambience were perfect. There is nowhere better to dine for dinner than the Canoe House at the Auberge Mauna Lani. Don't expect a great table if you are not a guest as they give preference to their guests for everything. Asked for an ocean view, beachfront table, got one 3 rows back just outside of dining indoors, however the service from my server Dianne was top notch. She checked in on every dish and was appropriately attentive throughout the entire meal! I opted for the chefs tasting menu as everyone should when dining here! They give you small portions of 6 dishes and they were all full of flavor, delicious and I have attached pictures of each dish. A great mix of surf and turf plus dessert! I've dined multiple times so I've also done the regular menu. Their catch of the day and prime aged rib eye are always perfect choices with a side of garlic rice, although the portion of garlic rice is good for 2 people. They also have an extensive wine and drink list, the sunset is spectacular from any seat outside, exploding in pinks and lighting up the sky like you've never seen, so make sure to be there before sunset. Reservations open 3 days prior to the date you go and sell out quickly, so make sure you schedule a reminder. read more

I made a reservation for our vacation to the Big Island at Canoe House. It was our 10 year anniversary together, and I knew I'd be proposing before dinner. When we checked in at the gate for the hotel the security guard made sure to wish us a happy anniversary, as did the hostess when I checked in. I mentioned our engagement, and we were surprised with two glasses of Champagne when we were seated. That was a very pleasant extra we were not expecting! We decided on the 5 course dinner, and we were not disappointed! Our waiter, and all of the food runners were so nice. Each one took time to co granulate us. We genuinely enjoyed our visit. All of the food was amazing, as was dessert. We aren't the kind of people to spend that kind of money out at dinner very often at all, but we certainly didn't mind the cost given the service, quality of food, and atmosphere. The setting is truly relaxing and one of a kind. Some time we will be back to enjoy another amazing meal at this beautiful restaurant. read more
Sunset dinner here is just magical! We were so lucky to have an outdoor table looking over the sunset. It was summer and we had reservations at 5:30 pm I believe. It was just as soon as they were opened for dinner. As soon as we were seated, we were offered champagned to start off our night. Yes, please! Then, I ordered the "from the barrel" Old Fashion cocktail from the menu, my usual drink, and enjoyed the beautiful sunset as we looked at the menu and decided what to eat. We ordered for our dinner so much food! -Oysters -Smoked Pork Jowl -Grilled Kona Kampachi -Eggplant salad Everything was just so amazing. The food was beautifully presented and everything just tasted amazing! There wasn't any dish I thought needed any improvement. My drink was also amazing!! Not a cheap drink at $22 but a great interpretation to the traditional cocktail with nutmeg and cloves. Overall, I think I had at least two old fashions, it was amazing!! The entire dinner and dining experience was superb. Overall, service was top notch and it made the experience even more romantic and amazing. As soon as our plates were empty, before I could blink, our waiter was ready to take way our plate and bring our next order. Thank you to the amazing service the amazing team here provided. The ambiance of this restaurant is magnificent! It's nestled beach side with beautiful sunset views and they had calm music softly playing. The service was superb and everyone was very friendly! The food was to INCREDIBLE! If you want something that is a little different and like corn, definitely try the corn riblets. My family ordered the lobster and fresh fish but in my opinion the real star was the Pork Jowl! The poke style ahi was so decedent- the fish literally melts in your mouth. The desserts were ok, nothing to rave about like dinner but still very good! Overall this spot is a must go to! read more
We visited CanoeHouse for our final-evening of trip special occasion meal. It is at the centre of the Mauna Lani complex and has plenty of easy nearby parking. The restaurant is outdoors but partly covered on the beach in a beautiful location with lots of view and great decoration. The whole environment is calm and welcoming after a day of vacation activity. The menu has a medium sized selection with plenty of things to choose from that appealed to us. There is a wide range of local seafood but also a great selection of meats. The appetizer set was especially appealing. The food quality was great. Everything was expertly prepared and had bold, engaging flavours. There is a bread cube available that is worth trying. It has a great outside layer, though the inside is somewhat disappointingly basic after the delicious outside. We ordered two, but one would have been plenty for our table of four. The lamb chops and lobster were both great. I had the Koji chicken which was good but in the end I wished I had had the lamb which I tried and was great. Each dish comes with a defined set of sides but substitutions are possible. We ordered a day of special fried rice dish which my wife liked but which I found quite disappointing. We ordered two desserts for the four of us, but it was lucky that two were not very hungry as the dessert portions were individual. Both desserts were delicious. Service was careful, attentive and thoughtful and really made the evening run smoothly. Cost was not cheap but not crazy. Overall, a very strong high end restaurant that I would visit again with a super environment, great food and an amazing view. read more

The food and service was excellent and we had a perfect view of the sunset over the ocean. For drinks we had the Mai Tai, but I wouldn't recommend it. I've had much better versions at other restaurants. There was two of us and for starters we had the lobster tempura, pull apart bread, and artichoke hearts. My wife doesn't like seafood, but the lobster tempura smelled so good she tried it anyway. This was my favorite dish. The pull part bread was excellent. It is served hot and outer edge is pre-seasoned with salt and butter. This is definitely a staple that we will always get when we go back. We love hearts of palm and the dish was a mix of flavors that complimented each other. It's served with avocados, cilantro and a jalapeño sauce with a flavor similar to green salsa. For our main dish we had the marinated chicken and the garlic fried rice. The chicken was good but we expected more flavor from the sauce. The fried rice was my wife's favorite dish. It seems like everyone recommends it and I can see why. It has good flavor and just the right amount of spice to give it a kick. Our desert was the flourless chocolate cake and you can't go wrong with this dessert. EDIT: This may be our favorite restaurant on the big island. We tried the mixed green salad and the dressing was a creamy Parmesan dressing with a bit of citrus to freshen it up. Our main dish was the New York strip. The dry rub gave it a crisp outer edge and excellent flavor. We will get this main dish again. read more

My old friend and family visiting from Tampa, FL and we had dined here. They looking for good Japanese food and I researched few places at Waikoloa area. This place serving "New" style Japanese fusion and I am also interesting to try it. Nice atmosphere with ocean breeze. Menu selection was pretty good. Me and my husband had "Chef's tasting menu" ( Six course dinner ) $155 per person. Every each dish was nice presentation and tasty. Using beautiful Asian taste china dishes. Each food served perfect timing. Service was good. Very satisfied overall. I was pretty surprised I haven't eaten good food for long time mostly many bad experienced where"High class restaurant" around here. I highly recommend this place especially special occasions. One thing I would say little bit overpriced for us. Because we live in Hawaii and not tourist. And of course Mauna Lani Bay Hotel is top notch hotel so, I can't complain. read more

Chef Matt Raso cooks some absolutely heavenly food. All the dishes were very well thought out with each dish emulating Japanese elements in its taste and presentation. Here are the dishes we had (which were all amazing!): - Kahuku Corn "Ribs" - *Shokupan Pull Apart Bread - Roasted Head on Kauai Shrimp - Tomatoes and Eggplant - *Radish Salad with Crispy Salmon Skin - Local Fresh Catch - Grilled Whole Keahole Lobster - *Smoked Pork Jowl We came here during Christmas and had the opportunity to try their 5 course menu. The Ahi Tataki Sunomono and the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Steak with Truffle Demi Glacé were definite standouts. By the way, we aren't whales... we came here twice because the food was too good! read more

Let me start by saying the view here is breathtaking. You are literally eating on the beach! Sounds like paradise right? I suggest for the ladies to bring light jacket can get bit windy. The food was top notch from the oysters, edamame, to even the shishito peppers. But let me warn you, you might get a spicy one! For dinner I had the daily catch mahi mahi. The sauce on it was so good I almost licked the whole plate. Highly recommend to make a dinner reservation here! Mahalo read more

I was excited to have a nice sunset dinner. I open the menu and am surprised by the prices but it's whatever. We decide to get the tasting menu because it seems like a good bank for your buck. They earned two stars for the waitress and the sunset. The food was mediocre, overpriced, and small portioned. They forgot one of our courses and we had to tell them. The people who brought out the food seemed inexperienced. The fried rice was not worth $30 I can get something from Panda Express for way less. The salad tasted like chalk. Canoehouse sits on a beautiful beachfront location with excellent service. We were asked at the reception desk if anyone had a food preference or allergies and 2 of us are 100% plant-based. We were immediately provided our own vegan menu upon being seated. The selection was wide ranging and beautiful. All 4 of us (vegan & non-vegan) enjoyed their 100% plant based appetizers of grilled chilies, edamame, and corn ribs. Main entrée: I devoured the Tofu/mushroom pot & my son had the hearts of palm pasta. Both were full of delicious flavors unique to Hawaii and presented beautifully! Our server doubled a panna cotta dessert for my son and I using a coconut cream that was delicate and ended our meal perfectly with a coffee martini; also 100% plant-based. The 2 meat eaters loved their dinner of mahi mahi, pulled bread and garlic fried rice. This was a very special dining experience my mom, sister, son and I fully enjoyed while celebrating my sister's birthday. Love Canoe House! We have been twice since the Mauna Lani remodel. No better place for dinner on the beach and amazing food. This is the perfect place for a relaxing meal and sunset. It doesn't get better. Try starting with the corn ribs and then move on to the whole Keahole lobster. The food is well prepared and amazing. Highly recommend reservations, though. Not easy to get a table even with the hotel at reduced capacity. Restaurant is open to people not staying at the hotel. read more
I had high expectations of Canoe House which is lauded as one of the best high end meals you can get on the big island. We made a reservation and made the trek down island for what we planned to be our splurge dress-up dinner. We were seated in the open air section of the outdoor dining area, with great views of the ocean and pending sunset. It was extremely windy that night however, and our table items were flapping around all night, as well as flapping others on nearby tables. Our waitress was friendly and prompt and we were able to order pretty quickly. I went for the Short Ribs with garlic fried rice ($39), he got the Red Snapper, and we ordered a glass of red wine to go with it all. Food came out really quickly, which was about the most impressive part of the evening. My ribs were ok, but the rice was heavy and very oily, and his snapper, although beautiful was quite unremarkable otherwise. Once sunset was approaching, so many people came out to the area in front of the restaurant, the view was completely occluded and we couldn't see anything, which was one of the main reasons we came here. After our heavy dinner, hubby saw there was ouzo on the menu, and thought it would be a way to end the meal, so he ordered a glass. After a moment our waitress came back and said they didn't have any, so we got our bill and left. Once we got to the hotel we realized they charged us for the ouzo that they never brought to us. I called the restaurant and bar multiple times to remedy the issue, and they have done nothing to fix this. I expect much more from a hotel and a restaurant in this price range, and think this a careless and unnecessary oversight that could be easily addressed. read more

Epically Awful. Chef's tasting menu was absolute garbage. We are foodies, and would rate this place below McDonalds. Oh wait, I actually like McDonalds better. Oh and service was terrible too. For a meal for four that topped $750, I would strongly suggest going elsewhere, Or hire a private chef for the night to cook local fresh food. Anything would be better than here. read more

The prices here are extremely high. But considering the location at a high end resort, that should be expected. Our server was wonderful. The food was well prepared. This is a great place for a celebration of an important date in your life. The views at sunset are spectacular. You won't find this kind of setting where you live. read more

What is the dress code?
There is no dress code. I recommend Hawaii casual i.e aloha shirts for men and sundresses for women.
Does this place have gulten free bread?
Call them. I'm pretty sure they don't. But their bread is awesome if you can break your gluten rules for one night. Only place I've ever had shokupan bread like this.
Do they only have a prefix visit or is ala cart available?
A la carte is totally available. I was just there a few weeks ago. I honestly prefer the ala carte menu compared to the tasting. Have fun! What an incredible meal you're gonna have.
