This is a perfect spot for breakfast. Located in downtown Barrington canteen restaurant is the place to go for delicious briskets all day long. The food and service here is a 10/10. We tried the avocado toast with brisket & the smoked brisket with eggs. The brisket was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and loved the smoky flavor. The Greek frappe iced coffee that was recommended by the host was amazing. I could have had two of those. The wait staff is so friendly and the restaurant has such good vibes. We were there for 2+hours and the staff checked on us often. I need to go back there asap and try other things on their menu.

I ordered the El Diablo pulled pork sandwich. The pork had a delicate texture. It has a nice smoky scent; the amount of the pulled pork is quite generous. It was finished with coleslaw and pickle. It is presented in brioche buns. It has a zesty and sweet sauce. The sauce has a pleasant spice. I can't wait to return and sample more items from the menu.

Well, we stopped in for breakfast for the first time and was greeted by Sammi, after ordering I decided on the brisket and eggs and my wife got the burnt ends and eggs and all we can say is service was amazing, Food was even better with the atmosphere being great and a little classic rock music playing in the background, what else can you ask for?

Best breakfast and lunch around the Chicago area! Had breakfast there today for the first time (we normally are there for lunch), and everything was fantastic! Sammi was our server and was excellent and food was perfect. If you have not already done so, GO EAT at CANTEEN!!

We came here on a Sunday morning around 9:30am and were seated immediately. The place was pretty full though, so come early! We ordered the brisket skillet which was delish and a good portion. I'd definitely go back!

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing. Ordered the keto brisket skillet. Smoked brisket, eggs, onions, peppers, smothered in mozzarella, with balsamic glaze. It was fricken fantastic. My man ordered bananas foster crepes. All in all it was the best food I've put in my mouth in a very long

Has anyone ordered takeout from here lately? I tried to call several times during open hours last week but the line just continued to ring. So bummed!

Follow them on Facebook. They sent their smoker out for renovations and are doing some in the restaurant too. They're hoping to be back open soon.

She was friendly and great at recommending dishes. The busboy (we didn't catch his name) was positive and attentive. The staff really make the spot wonderful. It's modern inside, dark paint, and updated decor. However it feels friendly with the trendy atmosphere. The way these dishes look also match the ambiance at the restaurant. We ordered lots of dishes and they mostly looked great! The Salat Roasted Beet Salad is fruity, thanks to the berries and citrus, with a pistachio whip on the bottom of the dish. It's a heavier dish for a salad, but absolutely delicious and fruity. I also had the San Francisco Style Cioppino was good, but I wasn't expecting it to be like a zupa di pesci, while the flavor was good, I was having FOMO of others eating monkfish and the walleye. The Cioppino had a Louisiana flavored sauce. There was a variety of fish which were all cooked and not overdone. It's a massive dish! We finished off with English Sticky Toffee Pudding and Italian Citrus Mascarpone Cake. The cake was amazing! It wasn't too tart and light. The sticky pudding was also delicious and very sweet. It's a very beautiful restaurant, service is great, the plates look amazing and tastes great. It's definitely a spot to try again!

A place where everybody knows your name!…read more I hadn't been to the Blue Heron in several years after having been an "out of town" regular for some time. A family illness kept me away for several years. A couple days ago I was in Barrington for the first time in a long time. I walked into the Heron and was treated like the Prodigal Son. Addie, still running the place, tending bar and cooking amazing pub food. The same bunch of regulars that I'd said goodbye to years ago greeted me as though I'd just left the room a minute ago. All sitting 6 feet apart and watching whatever sports can be found on TV. But there's more to the story than that. You see that ill family member was my wife of 33 years, Mary Jo. I had returned to Barrington to lay her to rest in the town of her birth. Upon learning the reason for my return Addie organized a (very) impromptu wake. He whipped up a rum and lemon concoction based on her drink of choice: Bacardi Limon and Diet Coke. He dubbed it the "Mary Jo Shot". Toasts were given and eyes grew misty. The Blue Heron is more than a building where you can watch a game, have a beer and get a great pizza. It's a community. It's an institution. One for which I will always be great full. I'll see you all next time I pass through town.

The main…read morereception hall features a large stone window behind the wedding party table, and there is a patio just outside that overlooks the water, which makes for a gorgeous setting. While Wild Onion is clearly a great venue for events, it is also a restaurant and brewery, so I am focusing this review more on the food and dining experience. We ate here for my cousin's wedding rehearsal dinner and were seated in a red carpeted room connected to the main reception hall. Unfortunately, this space felt out of place compared to the rest of the venue. It did not match the elegant vibe of the main hall and was a bit dark and dingy, which was somewhat off-putting at first. Service-wise, our waitress was wonderful. She was sweet, personable, and had a fun, upbeat personality that helped improve the overall experience right at the beginning. For my meal, I ordered the Kickin' Chicken Sandwich ($17). It is a hand-breaded chicken breast topped with honey garlic sauce, pepper jack cheese, bacon, chipotle mayo, and fried jalapenos. The sandwich had a really nice balance of flavors and was easy to eat, but despite the name, it was not spicy at all. I enjoyed it, though I did find the portion a bit small, and it did not fill me up. I chose cheese curds as my side, and those were a highlight. They were crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Also, because I am currently pregnant, I had an absolutely delicious mocktail. I sadly don't remember the name of the one I ordered, but I am here to say that it had a good balance of flavors. Overall, Wild Onion has a large menu with a wide variety of options, along with many different side choices, some for an additional charge. There truly is something for everyone. While the rehearsal dinner space itself was not ideal, the food, service, and overall selection still made for a positive experience.

Husband loved his fried chicken that had nice, thick bacon on top. Fries were hot and salted nicely. Truffle fries weren't much different than regular fries in flavor with just a subtle seasoning on top. Salad was a miss with only 3-4 small pieces of chicken on top.
