Had a great stop at the Canterbury Aleworks this last weekend. It's a rustic place in the middle of the woods with great vibes and awesome beer. You have to try the flight of 8 to get all the flavors down and the best part is it's reasonably priced. The Lime beer was my favorite, but there were so many other great flavors without being overly heavy, making it easy to consume in all seasons. It looked like they had live music coming for the warmer months, so definitely keep your eye out! It's definitely a unique stop and can't wait to make the trip to stop again! read more

Truly one of a kind. You almost feel like you've been invited to an eccentric friend's house. Really cool outdoor seating area consisting of tiers of Adirondack chairs. And the inside is small but almost has the feel like your at an extremely old pub. Only downside was the bathroom, which competes with the nastiest dive bars in NYC at 3am on a Sunday... truly gross, and I can't imagine any woman enjoying the experience (or man for that matter). We are SO glad to have visited this little nano brewery!!! This place is in the middle of nowhere, set back on a long dirt road, downstairs in a wooden barn. Maybe only 200 sq ft (if that) space inside; 1 tall table with 4 high stools, 2 leather chairs, rest of the space are standing room only. A tight fit, but so cool inside! Needless to say, beer only - they don't have the license to serve beer in pints, but you can get the 4 oz samples and growlers to go. The place was PACKED when we were here; but everyone was very friendly and shared the small space together. They had 8 beers on tap; we had to try all 8! Everything was really solid; my fav was the stout and hubby liked the IPA. We didn't get to talk to the brew master as it was so crowded, but really enjoyed the experience and would recommend this place to anyone who is passing through or vacationing nearby. Just a side note - the bathroom situation is very interesting... the toilet is a cross between portal potty and compose. A bit high up and there's actually a step stool for the ladies to step up to "sit" on the seat. Bathroom is not dirty and doesn't smell...but it is definitely a hole for the waste to go in; no flushable water. By the toilet, under the bucket sink (with bud light tap as the water faucet control!) there' a bucket of dirt. Sign says to put a scoop in after you poop (ha!). Not an ideal situation for female, but still better than portal potty. read more

One of my favorite Brewery's anywhere. Well worth the trip. I have family in NH and visit from NJ several times a year and a trip to the Brewery is always part of my stay. Old School cool in every way. Warm inviting vibe. Steve and his son are great people and every person I've met there has been outgoing and fun. The brews are super tasty and always changing. Out of the way location absolutely worth the drive. Most unique/antique brewery around. Built in what feels like/is the root cellar of a very old barn with a British flair. Super Cool tap system Great character and equally great pints. Go for the Espresso-Oatmeal stout or the Imperial IPA. You won't forget this place. read more

The boys had heard about this place through the grapevine and we were eager to check it out. We were sold the second we pulled into the winding, scenic road. The environment and aesthetic is exactly what it should be. It's very clear that Steve is genuinely passionate for his craft. All four of us got the Flight of 8. There were absolutely no misses. This place is so unique, so special, so different from anything I've ever experienced (at a brewery or ever) that I can't wait to take more people here! The beer being delicious and varietal is a mere perk of time spent there. The owner/sole operator/craftsman to every detail of the place, was so kind, passionate, and genuine. He even took my uncle out on his big, yellow, 1950's Mercedes military vehicle just cause I asked him if he could have a photo next to it as he is a huge Mercedes enthusiast. This place is magical! Had the chance to come here with a large bachelor/bachelorette party, getting the whole brewery to ourselves. Steve was gracious enough to guide us all through a flight, going through each beer one by one with information about each. And the place itself is fabulous - a little farm with the brewery in a deliciously smelling mill. This isn't your typical brewpub, it's all about the beer and atmosphere. Stopped in a few ago, and this place is awesome. Its located in the middle of nowhere, which is part of its charm. The brewer is also the server, so its great to sit down and talk about the beer, since he know everything about how he did it. Super friendly. A rather neat little place tucked in the woods. I was really enjoying my visit until another patron went out and brought in their dog! Really, this place is small to say the least. And as if that wasn't bad enough, someone else brought their dog in as well. There's hardly enough room for your patrons! This is not a dog park. What makes people think that just because they are dog lovers that everyone is a dog lover? You might want to consider making your establishment "dog free"! read more

Our group enjoyed all of his offerings - my favorite was the Canterbury Ale. Steve's hospitality included plowing the road after our visit so we could enjoy the tour during a snow storm. This place and its owner are awesome. Steve hosted our private bachelor party and we had an amazing time. The beers were excellent (we all got a flight and recommend you do the same!) and Steve is a true host. He gave us a full tour of his self-built brewing setup, which is incredibly impressive, and was happy to answer any and all questions our group had about the process. Found this awesome place by accident on our way to Fox Country Smokehouse. Wow the ride down the driveway starts the adventure and to pass the hops fields and ponds brings you into the frame of mind where you melt into relaxation. once you come upon the barn you have arrived and the real experience begins. Down the stairs on the left side to the lower level past the water wheel through the 18th century door. You have found a hidden gem in the mystical woods of Canterbury to sit and look at the detail and though put into everything is worth the ride. Then to be able to talk with the creator of such a place and awesome beer. I normally do not like craft beer but this man changed my thoughts of craft brewers. His love and knowledge of the craft of brewing from the hops and grains to his marvel of new and old world brewing method. To have the brewing process explained by the man who built and uses the facility makes the tasting experience the best. I am hooked on craft brewing and now that I have Canterbury Ale Works growlers it gives me the perfect reason to keep returning. I look forward to tasting what he has come up with next. I will swing by the smokehouse and grab some peanuts and cashews to share with next tasting which will be real soon. Go for a wicked (yes I am from NH) nice ride in the country and try this for a destination you will not be disappointed. read more
