One of my worst experiences. I brought my car in, asked for a tire replacement and a diagnostic on my car. I was told no work would be done until they called me. No one called until days later and they said my work has been done. I asked how? No one called and no one gave me a diagnosis on my car. Even with the tire, I asked if they could check it to see if it could be patched and no one ever called. They basically didn't do anything I asked. Later they said the tire I had was bad and told me I could get a new one. I brought in the new tire and asked again for a diagnostic. This time they ran it and told me essentially my car was too bad to work on. I asked if they can provide a list on everything wrong with it and they said yes and they'd call me when the car was ready for pick up. A week goes by and no one ever called. I finally reach out to them. They have me pick up the car and when I get to it I see they literally DID NOT PUT THE NEW TIRE ON. So now I have a car mounted on what they told me was a bad tire and to make things worse, the battery is now dead. So now thanks to coming to this shop, I have a car on a bad tire, wasted almost 3 weeks and spent about 50 dollars for nothing but a questionable diagnosis from a shop that wouldn't confirm anything, didn't listen to my requests and get this... They didn't even write down what's wrong with the car for me. I hate leaving bad reviews but with so many auto shops in the area literally go ANYWHERE else. I seriously do not understand how this place calls this customer service. I just wanted to support local. read more

There's good and then there's Asko good. So happy to have a mechanic like Asko work on my Range Rover. I drive two older foreign cars so it requires more maintenance than other cars. Recently my car has been making a lot of funny noises whenever I turn it on. It sounded very similar to the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard. I was on my way to work and the screeching was so unbearable and then the brakes on my Range Rover partially gave out. Scary to say the least but super grateful that I was so close to Cantic auto shop. I had to go to work but luckily my mom was able to drop off my car to Cantic Auto Repair. Asko, the owner, told my mom that the brakes were so bad that he couldn't let her drive because it was a risk to her safety. He told her to leave the car and that he would work on repairs. I really loved that my mom was able to drop the car off at 7:30 am and that the shop was actually opened- whooo hooo! Anyways, Asko took my car in and started looking at the various repairs needed to be done to my car. Before he started working on any of he repairs, he called me, he told me what was wrong, told me how much it would cost to repair, how long it will take to repair and he informed me how much labor is. There was no back and forth- he was upfront and honest. He replaced my brake pads, two front bearings, some sensors and a whole lot of terms I am not familiar with. Now keep in mind, I drive a Range Rover and the parts on a Range Rover do not cost the same as a Toyota so naturally, any repairs completed on a Range Rover will be expensive. However, I spoke to my brother and he told me for how much I paid, I really got my money's worth because the Range Rover service facility would have charged me three times more. I got my car back really quickly and when I drove her, she drove like new. Super happy with the service I received! Also, Cantic Auto Repair recently moved into their newest location. It is so clean inside- I'm always so worried about where I'll sit and wait while my car is checked out but this auto shop is nice! Bonus points: they have fresh brewed coffee!! In addition, this place is conveniently located on Clark Street which means that the CTA 155 and 22 buses are close by in case you need to leave your car for a couple of days and need a ride home. There is plenty of street parking. The only downside to this location is that there is a slight barrier in the middle of Clark street so it's not so easy to do a u-turn around here. read more

I called him last week right before they were closing cuz my car overheated He was there in less than an hour and picked me up...which was a life saver since my triple A expired. I truly appreciate it even more since I hadn't been to him in a while because I moved. He reminded me why I always like going back to him always remembered my name and my car model and I never felt like he was ever ripping me off. It always takes a few days for him to do repairs but it's well worth it and that's why two of my co-workers go to him as well. read more

Cantic is very honest, knowledgeable, and straightforward. When he thinks something is out of his purview, he lets you know and refers you to someone who can help. I love this place. A lot of my family are mechanics in Alabama(so not much help to me in Chicago) so I know basic maintenance and how not to get screwed over by a flaky mechanic. I went to Firestone for tires, and while I was there, an estimate on any repair work. They told me 3,000 dollars, I laughed my way out of the parking lot. I took it to this place for an oil change and got another estimate done, all on the word of my sister's coworker who lives up the street from these guys. 500 dollars, and when I asked about something Firestone had stated NEEDED to get done, they shrugged and said "It's an old car, that will happen." (96 Maxima) When my sister took her car, they took us back to the shop and showed us the part that had to get unexpectedly changed out, and possibly kept them out of a wreck on their way to visit our family in the South. Their prices are also affordable. So yes, I trust these guys and I will be taking my cars to them for years and recommending them to any who ask for a reliable mechanic. read more

I went to this place on friend refferal to fix my cracked bumper, and this guy came in and repaired it so fast to fit great in 15min, and charged me like $20 (on min $100 damage), After that I became regular, Asko has been maintaining and repairing my car for the past 2 yrs. Great service. Friendly and polite. But most importantly HONEST. I took my car to a dealer (Autobarn VW Evanston) to get a cooling sensor replaced. The dealer wanted to charge 1,000 dollars which included a $140 diagnostic charge. I took it to Cantic auto repair instead and paid a much more reasonable price and no charge for the diagnostic test.
