Ask the Community - Won's Auto Service

There are two Wons auto repair shops listed here on Yelp, one at 2501 N. Western and one at 3903 N. Ashland. I am looking for the shop that was formerly in the 1600-block of N. Milwaukee Avenue. Which on is it? Has he moved twice?

Many other folks had the same idea, so I knew this place was reputable (in addition to all its great online reviews) They gave me a call by 10:30am letting me know they could fix the whirring with a new belt. Also identified my brakes were at their end of life and offered to replace. Their quote for 4 new brake pads was extremely reasonable. By 1:45 my car was done being serviced and I went back to pick it up. Easy check out. No line. Very nice staff. A complete success. Definitely will use Ashland tire and auto for all future car needs and will recommend to all my friends

Overall, I had a good experience with Ashland Tire & Auto. I brought my car in for exhaust repairs,…read moreand they completed the work the same day. The repair cost seemed fair, though on the higher end of the expected range. One issue came up afterward: when I picked up the car, the tire pressure light was on. I initially assumed it was nothing serious, but by the following evening, one tire was completely flat. To be clear, I understand there's no way to know for sure whether the tire was damaged while the car was at the shop or while I was driving it home or the following day. I genuinely acknowledge that uncertainty. That said, the timing concerned me. I took the car to Just Tires, where I had purchased all four of the tires in 2022. I was told that the flat tire could not be repaired and needed to be replaced. Replacing two tires, which is fairly typical (depending on tread wear and matching) was recommended. The total cost, including tax and installation, was about $575. I discussed the situation with Ken Papas at Ashland Tire, and I appreciate the way he handled it. He didn't dismiss my concern, but he also fairly pointed out that neither of us could pinpoint when the damage occurred. He offered $150 toward the replacement cost, which I accepted. I think that was a reasonable, good-faith gesture, even though covering the cost of one tire would have felt more satisfying. I'm leaving a positive review because the exhaust issue has been resolved (so I assume the original repair was done correctly) and because Ken handled an uncertain situation professionally. I'd consider using Ashland Tire & Auto again.

I repeatedly returned to the shop over the course of more than three months trying to get the problem resolved. Instead of addressing the issue, I was repeatedly told it was a switch or some other problem. Eventually, I was told it was an electrical problem they could not diagnose or fix and that I needed to take the car to the dealer. I took the car to the dealer, and within about five minutes of opening the door, they discovered that the electrical wires to the locking system had been cut/damaged. I then had to pay to have the damage repaired. What is especially frustrating is that I kept going back to this shop and was repeatedly led to believe that the problem was unrelated to their work. I feel that I was misled by their employees, and I am extremely disappointed that it took months and a trip to the dealer to finally identify what was wrong. I have also tried contacting the District Manager to resolve this matter. I have called and emailed him repeatedly since Tuesday, and I am now being ignored. I would not recommend this shop based on my experience. If a shop damages a customer's vehicle, the customer should not have to spend months chasing them, pay another repair facility to identify the damage, and then be ignored when asking for accountability.

I then took it to another shop, and they told me they also couldn't fix it, and directed me to Reliable Auto Repair Center. I was impressed when I called Reliable and the man I spoke with was confident he could fix it. The first time I brought my car in I had to leave immediately and bring it back the following day, because I was told they wouldn't be able to look at it until then (there were a ton of cars outside and they don't take appointments: first come, first served). I dropped it off the next morning and by early afternoon I had a diagnostic report and estimate. They also found a few other issues with the car and fixed everything for me by the next day. Communication was great, every person I interacted with was professional and kind, the cost was reasonable, and best of all my car finally works properly again. I will definitely be bringing my car to Reliable for all service and repair moving forward.

Then after a number of phone calls, my price would almost always quadruple and the problem would never be fixed. The last time I paid almost $4k for some suspension work and it was never repaired. After bringing back 4x's I thought it might be the tires. After paying over $1k for new tires it still wasn't fixed. I finally just took it to a Midas shop and after 15 minutes and $50 my car ran good as new. I'm not sure if these people are crooks or just completely incompetent but don't bring your car here!
