The food is really inexpensive and super fast. Calling to order can be entertaining, and challenging, as I have a hard time understanding "Ching-Lish". Still serving great food! Haven't been in this place for well over 10 years (because we moved to SoCal) and was surprised that it was still there. Went in and ordered three dishes and was very pleased. We ordered the Mongolian Beef, Almond Chicken and Green Bean Chicken. It came with chow mein and white rice. I ordered the beef chow mein and general chicken. I must say, it was beyond satisfying. It was jumping with flavor and it was just perfect. The beef chow mein was cooked to perfection and the general chicken was tender, a lil spicy/sweet and tangy taste, mouth watering good. It was superb and exceeded expectations. My brother first introduced me to this restaurant. He sometimes brings it to our home for my wife and I. We have all really enjoyed the taste of the food and the protions. It isn't the most inexpensive food option but it is a very good amount of food for the price. I last ate here about a month ago with a friend. The staff is always so humble and willing to help. Came here and ordered two very reasonably priced lunch specials. Menu states NO MSG is used, and the food tasted flavorful and it was fresh. The stir fry vegetables on my plate maintained their crunch. I was pleasantly for such a "hole in the wall." The owner was very nice and they quickly served our food. I'm a fan! read more

Have gone here 3 times recently and the food has been amazing everytime. Great food, big portions, cheap price, amazing service. FYI - The location is quite small usually just pick up to go, they are super busy during lunch hours and I've had a hard time getting someone to pick up the phone when calling in an order at that time. This is my favourite Chinese food in Salinas. For their welcoming smile to their fast service. Even though most of the time at night they are busy they are always happy to assist you. My regular order is orange chicken with either steam rice, fried rice or chow mein. There's no complain. Here is the reason why: their orange chicken covering is crunchy and the chicken that they use are real chicken breast and the orange chicken does taste like orange and NOT SOGGY OR TOO SWEET, the rice is always fresh and made right and furthermore, they make their Cantonese chili sauce fresh and made in the restaurant. Also try their other dishes as well. For people who love to add spiciness to their dish, this is the place that you need to try and add it to your dish. I'm talking about crushed peppers roasted in garlic, not too salty and cooked in oil kind of thing. You don't see this anywhere else in Salinas. Well I think that visitors who loves Panda Express and love inexpensive Chinese food should definitely try the Cantonese Express in South Main Street because it is a home run. read more
