My experience wasn't bad I was considering Microlinks because I was on a project with someone who's hair was so amazing she had the neatest ponytail and I would have never known she had any hair added in via this Microlink process so I wanted to try but I decided to stick with my relaxer and just get a trim and protein treatment which is kind of always my way to start when going to a new salon I allow the stylist opportunity to do the relaxer and healthier hair maintenance and education or wash and style 1st if they cant do that then yeah I'm not for moving forward with anything more. Well this salon has Michelle and Chara who are very nice and easy to talk with it was getting late in the evening but they were still pretty upbeat towards the end of what I'm sure was a long day as my appointment was later in the day on a Wednesday and they were still going with clients. Michelle was my stylist and she was helpful and gave me information on the Microlinks and what that process was. So all in all I would consider returning I believe their rates are comparable for quality of service/products received. read more

If I could give Michelle and the salon as a whole 10 stars, I would. I do not relax hair and it had been really difficult finding a salon that genuinely cared for natural Afro hair. I came in for a sew-in as a protective style. I waited a couple of days before posting this to make sure my sew in was durable. From washing and conditioning to blow drying and my braid pattern, Michelle was professional, helpful and took excellent care of my hair. She trimmed my ends and didn't use too much heat on my hair during the blow out. The braids were very comfortable, not too tight but secure. Other salons add a bunch of gel and gunky products that weigh down the hair and clog the scalp before braiding but not Michelle. Just hair oil and a well-planned and executed braid pattern. There is NO unnecessary thread in my braids either. I was able to move my eyebrows and sleep after my install was completed. A net was provided and my sew-in is very flat and neat. No tracks have slipped, my brush hasn't snagged on any loose thread. I AM SO PLEASED! THANK YOU! Other salons in the area say they care for natural hair, but really have no idea what they are doing, nor does it seem like they care to learn. If you're looking for knowledgeable staff that understands hair and cares about growing your hair, VISIT CANVAS. You will be so glad you did. I plan on going back to have wigs made and probably to try some natural styles that do not have synthetic hair. Michelle does it all! read more

Only reason I'm giving two stars is because the first time I came in as a walk-in I had better experience than now not being able to ever schedule an appointment. Was told I would receive a call back for services an hour later I called back for them to say sorry we didn't call you we have no internet super unprofessional and I can't believe that people will entertain a company that's appointment culture is horrible and never have availability for a returning client. This place had such great reviews and it's really unfortunate that I had such a HORRID experience. I called to set up an appointment and asked repeatedly if someone would be able to do the short Rihanna bowl cut as a sew in. I was assured this could happen as there were expert braiders as well as experts in short styles available. I was excited. I walked in for my 2:30 appointment at 2:09 and was immediately taken back for a consult. The stylist glanced at my picture, stated "that's cute. Did you want to do that today?" I said yes and inquired about pricing. Over the phone I was quoted 225 for the sew-in and 170 for two bundles of hair. Once in the chair (after being washed and blow dried) I was told it be 450+tax and it didn't even include the color in the picture. (That would be extra) I was taken aback because that meant I'd be paying 500+ dollars (once tip is added) and not even walking out with the style I came in asking for. But what could I do? I'd already been washed and blow dried. If I had been told this over the phone I would have NEVER made the appointment. But to add insult to injury, I communicated to the stylist that I needed to be gone by 5:30. She said that was no problem. At 5:11 she's still sewing. I tell her I'm nervous that I won't be finished in time. She says "don't be. That will just make me nervous. I'm done sewing now. I just have the top row and it's a short cut so won't take long." At 5:45 I had to LITERALLY run out the shop leaving with a mullet hair cut that looked NOTHING close to the picture. After tax I paid 474 dollars and cried all the way home. When I requested a refund for the service, the manager asked me if I wanted a full refund since the stylist did do the work. I have to drive back across town on SUPER BOWL WEEKEND to get my hair fixed because it's so bad that I'm crying. Yes I want a FULL refund of the service. I didn't even ask for the hair money back even though there is no way it can be reused or salvaged in anyway. While the manager and stylists all seem to be very nice and polite be warned that you may pay exorbitant prices and walk out with a really horrible mullet. Update: I took that hair out less than a week later. It was not even close to what I had asked for. Was a huge waste of a lot of money. Definitely did not mean to imply I was happy with the outcome. The shop individuals were AMAZINGLY nice but I definitely do not recommend going to this shop for a short full weave. Stick with the longer weaves. Those were all beautiful on the other patrons I saw at the shop while there. read more

This place was great and a pleasant experience. I had Delisianna to do color and microlinking for my wedding since my hair is so thin. She did such an amazing job and I absolutely LOVED my thick hair! Everyone was nice and welcoming. It was definitely a 5 star experience but I took off a star because it was crazy expensive and the whole process took longer than I was expecting. They said it should last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. I'm on week 3 and the links are loosening but still looks presentable. I have extra hair left that was not used and wish I could go back to get them put in again but it's just so expensive that I will have to pass. :( read more

It's a Paul Mitchell salon so don't expect a wide variety of products to choose from but they have what you need. I arrived on time for my sew in appointment at Canvas and still had to wait an hour before the service began. My stylist, Derrick, wasn't very experienced and the sew in was very haphazard and lumpy. He suggested I try a closing piece, and neglected to mention it was an extra $125. I found out at the register. Less than four weeks after paying $475 for my sew in, the tracks are now falling out. I called to ask for free repairs but instead was advised it would cost me another $85 for the repair plus a mandatory shampoo. If the shady business practices weren't bad enough, the staff is unpleasant and can't wait to get rid of you. read more

I am new Houston and was referred to Canvas by a co-worker. After researching and reading Yelp reviews I decided to have my hair styled here. I scheduled to have service with Raquel and my experience was excellent 5/5 star Appearance: the salon is located in a very nice area of Houston with convenient parking. There was a nice space for styling, treatments, shampoos and the dryer area was very chic and complimented with TV screens for entertainment Customer service: 5/5 Stellar, very pleasant atmosphere. I had a previously installed sewin that she handled with great care and went above and beyond even tightening loose areas. The end result was gorgeous and looks as natural as hair could look. I had my hair done there on Oct 14, 2021, by stylist Delisian, and I may be spelling her name wrong, but she also answers by Dee. I went the day before to purchase hair and she recommended I purchase the Cambodian hair, but they were out so she sold me two bundles of the Indian hair with a different type of hair as the closure. I also paid to have the hair colored and showed her the color I wanted. However, she recommended that I not go that light due to possible damage to the hair? I returned for my 9 am appointment, I waited 20 minutes in the waiting area, said hello several times in hopes of someone hearing me, finally Dee came to the front. She had me wait an additional 10 minutes. She eventually seated me in her chair. I told her that I didn't color my edges since I was getting a full sew-in. Dee said that we should go ahead and color the edges just in case they begin to show. So she colored my edges only. I asked her about the breakage of my hair and was there something she could recommend her response was "I don't know" I should have asked for another stylist at that point. She eventually showed me the hair I purchased but it was folded up, she didn't show me the highlights. I asked for deep-cut layers didn't get it, I asked for a lighter color in the front didn't get that, all the color was in the back of the hair like I could see it, but let me tell you what I did get was a white color concealer and "BAD HAIR". She knew when she washed that hair and dried it that it was bad hair that's why she showed it to me folded up. OMG..the hair swells and tangles. She constantly runs her mouth and engages in everyone's conversation versus attending to her client. Because my hair is shorter in the crown area, I asked if she could put a net on that area, OMG she netted my entire head which makes it feel like a wig cap. In addition to the cost of the two bundles of hair and the closure $363. She charged me an additional $438.00 for her services. Please keep in mind she didn't color my entire head just my edges. I had to have the hair removed on Oct 20th because of the matting, tangling, and itching. Prior to the removing the hair, the closure had already shifted and the threading was coming undone. One more thing to add...the Receptionist called me after I left the salon and said that Dee the stylist said I owed her an additional $75 for the color to the closure. I told her that I was driving and I would call back in as soon as I was at home. They sent about 6 reminder texts...how ghetto is that. I sent a review to Dee with my regrets and concerns. Do you think this stylist reached out to me at any point NO NO NO NO she did not and have not? I should have stayed with DIVA DOLLS, but they didn't have an opening that week. It takes one bad stylist to give a salon a bad review. I don't even know how I got paired or assigned to Dee as a first-time client. That's $400 I lost purchasing bad hair from Canvas Hair Studio. Not to mention an additional $450 to a stylist that should be charging $80 for sew-in or not allowed to do them. It was one stylist short in height and her chair is directly in front of Dee's. I have very thick relaxed hair and any time I go to other salons they always use that as an excuse as to why my hair never comes out how I like. Last Saturday I was booked with Keri and definitely was not disappointed! It looked as though I had a fresh relaxer (I haven't had one in 5 months and was in need of one) even though she simply washed, dried and straightened it. I also have a really dry, flaky scalp, Keri took her time with the wash to assure she focused on my scalp and just after that one wash my hair/scalp is so hydrated and healthy looking. All the stylist are talented here, I was a little afraid to try another stylist other than Chara. But I put on a brave face and tried Tiffanie Milton. Mrs. Tiffanie is the truth. She is humble and very good at her craft. Because my hair is natural its a nightmare to wash and style because it tangles and its sometimes unruly. Every time Tiffanie washes, combs and braids my hair I hardly know she is working. Her hands glide threw my hair like nothing. I barley feel tugs or pulls. My sew-in lasts a long time and looks professional and looks like my real hair. I have had people comment multiple times on how good my hair looks and some even think it's my hair. I had my first experience here with Tiffanie and she was very pleasant! I was nervous about getting my natural hair blown out and trimmed by someone new but she walked me through the entire process. I have been natural for almost 5 years and rarely visit a salon, except for twice a year trims or an occasional protective braid style or sew in. She was very gentle with detangling my hair dry and wet and showed me how much she would be trimming. She also didn't have a lot of overbooked clients waiting around either.
