Bonzai was blocked up and so constipated he could have never have passed it on his own. They're aren't enough words that I can say whole heartedly that this compassionate, passionate vet (Dr leslie) and his staff shares and has for pets. Olmost 2 yrs now, and every staff member cares, loves, and takes their job with love, passion,kindness, and caring Ness. My pet i would never take anywhere else, less ofcourse its emergency and distance won't allow such. Brookz on Tuesday had emergency situation and I thought she was dying, she was 100% limp,whining etc. I brought her in. Dr Leslie was a Lil confused because when I got her there, she got down, held her self up walked. That was not the case prior to that. My family has been at Canyon for a while. Like some of the other reviews, I loved the original owners, then had bad experiences with some of the interim vets and was planning to change vets. Unfortunately my fur baby had issues and I've recently seen both of the new Dr's and had great experiences with both Dr Leslie and Dr Galvin. Both were honest and straightforward. Dr Leslie was very caring yet direct about what we were facing and helped us make the hard decision to put one of our dogs down. He didn't push unnecessary testing and was honest that the expensive treatment option we had wasn't likely to have a good outcome. My husband and I love the Canyon Animal Hospital. We have been driving all the way from Sun City West to see Dr. Kelly Hehn for our previous dog. Now we also came back with our newly adopted dog. This time we saw Dr. Lori Hehn who is also a wonderful vet. They are both very professional and caring. And the staff is great. ***Beware*** New Vet, New Management! Plain awful! I have to write this detailed review in Memory of my Golden, Bailey. Bailey was 5 years old and had a diagnosed Autoimmune disease that would cause minor and severe flare-ups. Bailey passed away Feb 4, 2024 @ 7:20pm. Bailey began to have a minor flare up on Friday, Feb 2nd. I followed the medication process when this occurred given by the previous Dr. Kelly and Dr. Lori and this always helped. On Sunday, Feb 4 I began to get worried. This is the Only practice I brought Bailey. Bailey's 5 year medical file is in this practice. She had so much blood work and medication trials to find her diagnosis and treatment, I didn't want a new place to start all over while Bailey was at her worst for them to "find" what is wrong in order to treat her. The last thing I wanted is to cause her more distress with someone new poking her, while she is in pain. I reached out via email and gave them a run down of what is occurring and asked for help until I can take her to the practice tomorrow once they open. I stated if they have questions to reach out via my email or phone number I provided. But no one reached back with help. Bailey passed away at home Sunday, Feb 4, 2024 @ 7:20pm. Needless to say how heart broken I was. Monday, Feb 5, 2024 @ 10:39am I got a phone call from the practice but I didn't answer, I had a lot to process. Later that day at 5:04pm I got another call and decided to answer since I was more collected emotionally. The first thing the receptionist did was ask if I want to book an appointment with the doctor to evaluate Bailey. No mention of my email or how is Bailey doing today? Very transactional $$$$, no emotion. I took a pause and deep breath and advised the clerk that Bailey passed away last night. I brought up that no one in the practice responded to my email I sent asking for help. This person on the phone, Im going to assume is a clerk, David, stated they don't check their emails when closed. I brought up that I understood the practice is closed but in emergencies this is the way I would communicate with the previous doctor and I would always get a reply back with an effort to help but this new doctor and management failed my dog. Then the clerk corrected themselves saying that emails are checked but not constantly and would advise the doctor/management to improve this. I mentioned that its too late for Bailey, but I hope no other patient has to go through what I went through because of their lack of communication. I advised them I have another dog but I will no longer go to that practice because of their lack of care and I sincerely hope they change their ways of managing their practice and hung up. Before someone from this practice replies with EXCUSES, just don't. Give me the peace and don't give me your excuses. My dog passed and there is NOTHING anyone in this new practice can say to help that. If you are more concerned for yourself, I can see why you would respond to this review to "save face". My last comment for this new doctor and management. You took over this practice with many patients that come here with their pets for years that have preconditions, you may have your way of doing things but dont dismiss what has worked. There was a high level of care before the new vet and management took over. You have a practice that takes care of new and previous patients, some more sick than others. During times when you are closed you need to have a system in place for such emergencies when your patients need you. Having a degree and a practice is worth Nothing if you don't sincerely want to be available to help during emergencies. And Im not saying to be a super hero, but at least an effort/compassion to respond to an email with guidance. Something simple comes a long way. To show you at least tried. So after the clinic was sold to the new owners, they have a new tech, who apparently decided to put my seven-year-old dog on his back for a sanitary shave. They actually traumatized my dog and restrained him. He was in there for almost an hour and he used to go in there for 15 minutes and come out gleeful. I finally said what is going on in there please tell me where is my dog and the receptionist went and checked she said he's just wiggling around a lot and I thought yeah - wiggling around a lot cause you got him on his back. I found that out. You don't restrain an older dog, or any dog on their back it scares them, it's a frightening experience. I called the office manager and told her what had happened and how long it took and how traumatized he was and I said, why couldn't they have just come out and say you know, he doesn't seem to be doing real well with this why don't we do it another time it wasn't anything urgent. It was just a sanitary, shave, and a nail trim. The previous technicians that were there held him - one held him, and then one performed the sanitary shave, and the nail trim. Instead, these techs chose to lay him on his back - why? Where is the compassion? Didn't they see how distressed he was? By the way, I hear the new veterinarian is a very nice and good vet. And the office manager was nice enough after I got a hold of her. I just think it's the techs that are disputable. I kept asking Mary the office manager why would they do that? Why? When I handed my dog to them I felt safe because I knew they were going to take him back and he'd be right out as we did this every four weeks for five years and he never came out for an hour And then when he came out, it was such a sad thing to see him, so scared. I just don't understand why that had to happen For something that wasn't urgent it was just a shave. I still can't get over it. When you hand your dog to the technicians, you have to trust them that they will be kind and warm and not do anything to scare or hurt your animal. This was not the case. He came home and hid under the chair for a couple of hours and then it took him almost 2 weeks to get back to normal. It was the most bizarre thing I've ever witnessed. read more

We have been going to Canyon Animal Hospital for over 20 years, dating back to when Dr. Foster was the vet here. We were sad to find out the Hehns were leaving, but we were eager to meet the new vets. Immediately, we had a poor impression and negative experience. The straw that broke camel's back was when one of our dogs had blood work done- we received an email stating that the results were NORMAL. They did not include a copy of the results. We requested a copy, and it showed that there were 3 different elevated levels of certain proteins, etc. Suspicious, we took the results to a different vet for a second opinion. They said it was abnormal and decided to test for valley fever. Lo and behold, she was positive for VALLEY FEVER. Had we not investigated further, she could have rapidly declined without the proper treatment. We will not be coming back. Please use discretion when using this vet. read more

I wanted to add an updated since I recently brought one of my pups in to get his annual shots and also had a concern because he was throwing up way more frequently than what is normal. I was pretty worried and Dr. Hehn was able to give me a really good recommendation on how to fix the problem and what was likely the problem, without having to do any testing or anything. He gave me tons of information on diet and food for dogs that I had no idea about and it's been about 2 weeks now and my pup hasn't thrown up once since then! Love this vet. Husband and wife vet couldn't be more different in their approach, but both are consummate professionals, the sweetest and kindest humans. Everyone on the staff is just amazing, and I am always surprised at how little I'm charged for visits. They've treated everything from eye injuries to 'dumb owner asking about a mole on his rhinoceros lookin dog's face'.
