My wife and I went to the Canyon Grille last night. We had been one other time, soon after new ownership. The first time, nothing much had changed with the food. However, when we went last night, there was a new menu and a lot of new items. The food we had was very good and we are very excited. The staff was also good. Came up from driftwood for sunset views and CG didn't disappoint! Came on a Saturday evening right before sunset and it was bustling! Service was top notch and fast! Drinks are made well. This place used to be good, but it changed hands and has gone way down. We ate there today and the silverware was dirty, with food stuck on the fork and the knife looked like it had been wiped instead of washed. The club sandwich had bacon that was barely cooked, with chicken pieces that looked over-cooked. It was supposed to have avocado on it, and it did if you like a tiny smear of mashed avocado. When we wanted to pay our bill, even though there were very few people there, the server was no where to be found. We won't be going back. read more

This is a pretty busy little spot when the weather is nice. I got sports bar vibes on the interior & casual restaurant vibes on the exterior. I imagine a majority of the patrons are from the neighborhood. It's right next to the marina and some community amenities. We ate here during our weekend stay at Lakeway Resort, only a few mins away. Our server (Margarita, I think) was pretty awesome. Despite the kitchen being busy and out of one entree that we wanted, Margarita was very accommodating and super sweet! We were just enjoying the lovely afternoon and view of the lake/boats while seated on the patio and in no particular rush. It was a Saturday so there was plenty of traffic going to and from the tram thing that carries folks to and from their boats/the dock. Overall the food was good from the spinach queso and redfish to the sweet potato fries and amazing Brussel sprouts. They weren't "bad" but I probably wouldn't order the chicken tenders again. Beautiful place to eat with amazing food. However, just be prepared for slow service. I saw several people who were upset about how slow it was to get their food or bills. We had a large group and were seated quickly. It took a while to get our waitress's attention. We started off with the calamari appetizer which was hot and fried perfectly. I got the redfish special which had a lot flavor. The mashed potato and brussel sprout sides were also delicious. My husband enjoyed his fish tacos - a little spicy for me. Great food but just make sure you're not in a rush. They are understaffed and usually at full capacity of people being served. read more

This restaurant is certainly busy and the entire staff hustles and bustles for a neighborhood grill. Overall, drinks are made with care and the entrees and starters are an assortment of the grill spectrum. Had the French dip and the Ahi Salad. For $20, the French dip was enormous. Not sure how to consume something like this but you get plenty to share. The ahi tuna salad was absolutely packed in a deep bowl so challenging to get all the flavors at once. Includes rice at the very bottom and super fresh veggies. I would recommend less cabbage and more rice, preferably jasmine instead of long grain. The tuna was in large cold chunks piled on top so I suggest mixing it throughout. Whatever season is used, I would recommend to the chef to toss the seasoning with fresh tuna poke right before serving. As is, it was dry and clumpy. With this said, I do recommend. Shrimp tacos with black beans and grilled asparagus , Kobe burger with sweet potato waffle fries, Asada steak tacos with cilantro rice and white potato waffle fries, Power bowl vegan, and kids Mac and cheese meal. Our hostess and waitress, Margarita (probably not correct spelling), was so inviting from beginning to end of our meal. It was a cold day, the dining room was nearly full, and she suggested outdoor seating. We cringed loudly, but she quickly said special words such as "heated" and "very warm". Frowns were turned right-side up because we made a good choice. We had the whole closed patio to ourselves and perfectly toasty, genuinely relaxed. The main floor is small and quaint. I love this hidden gem! We will be back. Plenty of parking, and a large selection of food and drinks. They have fire pits on the outdoor patio too, nice to grab one of those for the chillier days/sunsets. My fave wine here so far is the French rosé. We had the mahi taco - well seasoned and tender. The burger was excellent. Cooked perfectly. Shishito peppers could have been a bit more charred. I would suggest pillows for the cold metal chairs and the bathroom smelled pretty bad - both the men's and women's...Id expect better from this place. Glad I went in after eating or I might have lost my appetite. Views are so pretty too. A view of the lake and a small infinity pool. Feels like a resort. Staff was attentive and friendly. This is a fair sized restaurant with about equal amount of indoor and covered outdoor seating. We sat indoors as there was a wait for outdoors. Inside the lighting is subdued and tables are still sufficiently spaced which is good. If you live in this community/neighborhood you'll probably be one of the regulars as there aren't a lot of other options within a short drive. Considering the affluent area it's in prices are relatively reasonable. I had fish tacos which were ok although not outstanding. The prime rib is a huge portion accompanied by an extremely hefty and delicious baked potato and very charred Brussels sprouts (all of which had to be packed to go as no one could eat all of it in one sitting). read more

Under new ownership and not what it used to be, not even close. We used to come here twice a week and meet all our friends here. In fact we'd have to get there by 4:30 pm just to get a seat. That is no longer the case, unfortunately. We went there last night to see if the food was any better and the place was almost empty at 6pm. The changes they've made are not good at all, so disappointing as this used to be our "good to spot" for all of us. The new management has absolutely killed this place. This was never someplace one went for great food, but they had very low turnover and it was a neighborhood place we came to to be with friends. My family used to dine here at least 3-4 times per week, including Thursday evening dinner and Sunday brunch. All of the familiar faces have been fired, although none of them deserved it, they brought the place alive and kept it hopping. Now, I'm fairly certain the only employees who are doing well at the restaurant, by the owners standards, are those who don't like the customers! Hmmm. After three terrible experiences in a row and consulting with everyone I know who have had equally horrible experiences, I'm out! I'll never go back. By the way, the Chili level food has gone down hill, service is non-existent, and the up charge policy is ridiculous. A couple of alternate suggestions for anyone who does not belong to The Hills CC: The Grove on 620 if you are looking for a view and better food. The service is professional and they have a lovely and clean patio - the bathrooms are always very clean. They have a very nice wine list and even serve wine flights. I haven't had a better piece of salmon in town. I would also suggest Angel's if you're looking to duplicate the homey, friendly, can't wait to see you again staff with some really nice new food choices since their way cool remodel. Say hi to Kevin or Bryan at the bar. They are stellar. It's also great for sports, people watching, outdoor dining, and is dog friendly. Good luck new owners, this one's definitely a miss. read more

This place was #1 on our list and it was everything we hoped for! The three of us devoured their chips & queso--it was legit. Those chips were thin, hot, crispy and had the perfect amount of salt. The queso dip was served warm and delicious. I'd go back just for the chips 'n queso. Their taco salad blew me away-not only is it humongous, but it's delicious! You won't believe its size. Share it with a friend. The view of the lake is best from the patio, but when we were there it was just too hot for us to eat outside. I imagine at sunset that is the perfect place to be. The service was good, not too memorable in any way, which can be a good thing, I guess. All and all, you better believe I'd recommend this spot. The food was really tasty. Our view wasn't the greatest since we had to eat inside, but the area around the restaurant is beautiful. You can easily find some great selfie spots with Lake Travis as the backdrop. Also, the drive there is fun as the area is in an upper class neighborhood. Some of the homes on the lake on your way there will make you say, "oh, wow, look at that." If you're thinking of giving this spot a shot, I'd say go for it. I don't have any reservations about recommending it to anyone looking for lunch or dinner with a view on Lake Travis. I was pleasantly surprised with this place, for some reason I expected overpriced food and small portions, neither of which was the case. My husband and I split the turkey club, which I thought was great - crispy toasted bread, really tasty flavored mayo, and I loved the avocado on it. He also got a wedge salad which he liked a lot, and my father-in-law loved his french dip. And everything was reasonably priced, $14.50 for a large sandwich and fries is very fair. I was going to take off one star for the wine and the fries. The wine itself was fine, J. Lohr is one of my affordable go-to wines. But they served it in a plastic cup, not a real wine glass. For a restaurant that says they have a wine list with extraordinary selections, not using a real, proper wine glass is inexcusable. And the waffle fries were horrible - way undercooked, and not a grain of salt on them. There was salt on the table, but they really need to be salted out of the fryer, putting salt on after just isn't the same. But, the service was really good, and I did enjoy my sandwich a lot, so settled on 4 stars. read more

This place has been my best find in 2021. To start the Canyon Grille offers amazing views of the lake, indoor and outdoor seating are both great (depending on the weather of course). The staff is always very friendly and make you feel right at home, which is great for me since I'm new to the area :). Atmosphere is upscale casual but not at all snobby. It's a good place to take a break from cooking enjoy great food and amazing views without breaking the bank. So far Ive tried their Burgers and fish tacos ....DELICIOUS, and their Espinaca Queso (spinach cheese dip) is a must have. read more

This place is super nice. Just walking around everything it looks like a colosseum and it just smells like money. The kicker? The prices are reasonable. MORE than reasonable. You don't have to pay colosseum prices for colosseum food. Great view over the water, tons of screens to watch sports, (doesn't hurt that it was a perfect day). Many country club restaurants are not good. This one is first rate. If I lived in Rough Hollow, I would join the club and eat here regularly. One of the reasons that the Canyon Grille at Rough Hollow is so good is that it is put together by an all-star cast. One principal comes from the Cool River Cafe. Another comes from the Steiner Ranch Steakhouse. Both establishments are top of the line restaurants serving upscale American basics. If you want to channel your inner ability to write marketing fluff, you can call the fare Upscale American Classics. You would not be wrong. There is a place for a fine steak, a fine burger, fine ribs or a fine salmon salad. In the days when Chili's was good, this is the kind of meal I would order once a week at Chili's. The execution here leaves the mid-range chains in the dust. The other ingredients you need for an excellent country club restaurant are a good bar and a magnificent location. The bar here is solid enough. No Yuppie exotica but plenty of the beer, wine, mules and margaritas that make for good time drinking. My mule had a lot of ice in it which very much watered down the taste. But I was drinking outside at 2 pm in the summer sun. I was just as happy to have the ice and taste be damned. The drink went down nice and easy. Cool as a cucumber, I drifted off into sloshland. The location is fantabulous. On one side you get a panoramic hill top view of Lake Travis. On the other side, you get a bunch of palm trees and people in their swimsuits enjoying the pool. Palm trees, a pool, good food, good drink. What's not to like? * * * A few notes for Yelpers who want to know about the fine details. a) The version of roasted shishito peppers they have here is a world beater. Canyon Grille blows away the shishito peppers they have at Uchi. That is saying quite a lot. b) Beef fajitas are first rate - but lotsa places have good fajitas. c) The love of my life is NOT inclined to like country club restaurants. She was very happy with her salmon salad. The house was very good about pulling the dairy ingredients out of her dishes. They were able to do this and still have their dishes work. Much of this is because they are working with very good raw ingredients. d) Canyon Grille gets a B on coronavirus safety. You can sit on a balcony with a good breeze. In busy times - that balcony is too crowded to be safe. Off hours - good spacing is possible. Patrons do not always behave themselves and wear masks. Be advised. The serving staff wear ingenious plastic shields rather than masks. These are based on their chin and go UP rather than down covering their nose and mouth. Eyes are left uncovered. Love of the life and I argued about the effectiveness of this. I thought it was a great idea. She thought it was dangerous and dreaded every time the servers came to the table. A huge question is how much air and germs go up over the top of the mask. I think the Canyon Grille system is pretty good. But if the top of the mask business bothers you, you probably want to stay home. * * * Overall, I love a classic bar and grill. This is a more elegant version of same in a tremendous location. I give it a huge thumbs up. That great food comes at a great price. If you don't already have your Tuscan mansion in Lakeway's Rough Hollow, Eating here often will dash your dreams of acquiring fine real estate.
