This is the second time I've eaten here. The first time I've had the tomato soup and the risotto, both were delicious. This time I ordered the tomato soup and the grilled Tombo. The tomato soup was boring and the Tombo was very dry. The waiter never even asked how it tasted, probably because he could see that the fish was too dry. Fortunately, he supplied us with plenty of water refills. The wild rice the fish came with was good. We then ordered the lava cake and the Banana Tarte Tatin. The lava cake was more like a cup cake but it tasted ok. The Tarte Tatin looked like it had seen better times. The cake bottom was chewy and tasted bad. The coconut sorbet on top was good. The coffee was mediocre and I would recommend that they buy an espresso machine. Although, the view is beautiful, I would never go back there again. I went there for a business lunch and my guest was also disappointed. The view is still beautiful, but not worth the visit. read more

This was our second visit to Canyon's for Sunday Brunch. Just like the first time, it was quite good. The selection, although not as extensive as some other places, had excellent quality. After hearing other peoples opinion of the course I finally played 18 and was challenged, frustrated and left scratching my head at some of the course layout choices. Fairways that look like a volkswagon burial ground and some greens that windmills or a clowns face would have completed that putt putt feel left me with a hearty appetite for food so to the Canyons. The bitter taste of disappointment disappeared once I entered the main dining room. I really liked the style, layout and the view can't be beat in North County. My buddy Craig and I both ordered the Pull Pork Sliders, my with the cross cut fries, his with cole slaw. We were both very happy with our selection! The pork was tasty, not too heavy on the sauce letting the pork flavor come through. The fries were just crisp enough on the outside and Craig said the cole slaw was very good. My son had told me the food was good, the prices were reasonable and he was right. While I am in no rush to play the course again I will be back for lunch, happy hour and dinners time and time again. You should have your Sunday brunch here! The food they serve is really good at a very fair price. My in-laws ask to dine there when they visit us in town. We didn't know this place was open to the public, no membership required to dine here. My husband and I attended a wedding reception there and the food was P-E-R-F-E-C-T! My husband had the beef course which was juicy and not undercooked. My meal was a juicy, tender and flavorful chicken. You know the chicken is always dry at any wedding reception, but not here! read more

Consistency is key with this restaurant, went two different days using my 25% off preferred dinner guide. First time was awesome, great portions (my kids pancakes were a good sized pancake even though they were advertised as "silver dollar") we were given a coffee carafe so we were only charged for one coffee and lastly all our plates came witg fresh strawberries and blueberries. The second time out plates had NO fresh fruit, my kids pancakes were back to "silver dollar" size leaving us under-ordering for them and we were given individual coffee cups and each billed $3 for a cup-o-Jo. I was disappointed however the view is still beautiful and the service was good :-) read more

When this restaurant opened it was off the chart fantastic and the food was a 10. I have been here a couple of times since and am so sorry the quality isn't the same. The location and view are fantastic as is the inside of the restaurant very roomy. I was here last night for an event and decided to take food home for my husband. I asked about the fish tacos of the day and got a whole bunch of different answers from the same three guys. They said they had the swordfish then they said they were out how about the fried fish taco and told them my husband doesn't do fried food I would just go over to Pelly's Fish Market then all of a sudden they had the swordfish. I told them I don't want them to scrip and they said that they had an order and a half of swordfish. I have no idea what was going on but since I didn't really want to make another trip I said fine. My husband said the tacos were okay but the salad was very wilted and was like a day old UN-refrigerated and he said it taste terrible and the dressing as well. I was disappointed that I didn't just go over to Pelly's where we don't incur these kinds of problems. I really hope the Canyons brings back the wonderful food and service they started with when they first opened. This was our first choice to bring out of town guest but not anymore. read more

This place used to be a staple for me when I worked in Carlsbad. Decent price, great view and very nice setting. My most recent visit after a year hiatus (no longer work in Carlsbad) makes me realize it's time to either close this place or put it under new management. The calamari appetizer was really under cooked and there was a slimy layer between the breading and the calamari. Additionally, the they forgot about my child's order and the sandwiches my wife and I got were only average. The waitress was very kind and trying hard to keep up, but they were really understaffed. We couldn't wait to leave. We won't be returning. read more

I would give it a minus rating if I could. I received a phone call from the restaurant four hours prior to our reservation canceling it. I was told they had a wedding at 5 o'clock. Really, they didn't know they had a wedding booked until last minute? I booked the reservation three days prior to getting the call. Obviously they do not cater to local people. read more

Beautiful atmosphere, great view, good to excellent food, fairly priced, and OK service. The word is out and the place has become too popular now. Go there with the intentions of enjoying your meal. I spent New Year's Eve at the Canyons and had a great time!!! Since I was there at night I couldn't enjoy the spectacular ocean and golf course views, but that wasn't what I was there for. The food and service was good, and the party and band great. I've eaten at the restaurant several times, (always a delight) but this was the first "special" event I've been to. They have events once a month or so and the prices are reasonable, the staff friendly, and the food and beverages great, By the way the golf course is OK, too but not for the faint at heart. You must be able to control the ball and not spray it all over. If you're not a golfer you can still enjoy this restaurant and the view is the daytime is awesome. read more

7 of us had breakfast at the Crossings. The restaurant has a beautiful view but the food was by far the worst breakfast we ever had. None of the eggs were cooked properly and the potatoes were half cooked. When we travel to Carlsbad from Oregon we have always met friends at the Crossings for breakfast. What choices they had were good. Other than the Prime rib , Bacon & sausage, all hot food had red bell peppers in it & the only seafood was salmon so if you can't eat them, the choices are limited. Very surprised they had no scrambled eggs & had no cheddar (just mozzarella) for the omelets. Waiter came when we were seated, got our beverages, didn't see him again til we were about ready to leave, then he came by to see if we needed more beverages & disappeared again. My husband and I attended the New Years Party at Canyons. What a great time had by all! We were a little apprehensive as we had never been to a function hosted by them before; we were certainly surprised and extremely pleased. We have since attended a couple more events and have been equally pleased. The staff is always professional, fun and so accommodating. Additionally, we love to have lunch there -- the food never disappoints. We can't wait until the next function!!! read more

Love this place because of the pricing. I'm used to the $75+ brunches. This place you can eat for 2 with $75. Excellent service and the champagne is free. I always fall asleep after I eat here for some reason, must be the overload of champagne since its free. lol read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. I went for breakfast with my co-workers here as our holiday party. We were a group of 9, an were the only customers in the place for most of the time. The food was just ok, but the service was horrendous. Our waitress was very unpleasant when we asked for separate checks right from the start. She sighed, said "I gues I can, but it will take your orders an additional 15 minutes with separate checks." That doesn't make sense to me. When she finally brought our orders, she dropped the crock of ketchup which went all over the leg of my pants and my shoe. She did not appear at all concerned that I was sitting there with ketchup dripping down my leg, and said she would grab a towel. But instead she kept handing out the food, and since she didn't remember who ordered what, it wasn't quick. I wiped up as much as I could with my napkin, and I pointed out that the ketchup was soaking into my pants and would stain them. Her response was "I know, I'll grab you a towel when I finish what I am doing." She finally left to get a towel which also took awhile, and came back with a filthy towel that had food caked on it and looked like it was used to wipe up the kitchen floor. She said she put soda water on it, and if there is a dry cleaining bill, let them know. One of the bus girls came rushing up with a clean towel, said it had soda water on it, and actually got down and started scrubbing at my pants. She asked if I wanted to put another towel between me and my pants so the wet material wouldn't be against my leg. She was great. Our waitress did not bring a new napking, or new ketchup, or check to see how my pants looked. She did not offer a comp or discount of any kind, and did not say another word about it. My food was cold by the time I got to eat, and it was very bland (sunrise scramble). Bottom line: if you want great food and good service, go somewhere else. If you want just okay food and bad service, this is the place for you. read more

we have been meaning to try this place for a while and finally got around to it for a late saturday lunch. i checked their menus online before going and discovered that they have a 'sunset menu' from 3-6, so we headed on over. we arrived at 3:20 and found a sign saying the restaurant was closed, but the bar was open. we walked around the roped off restaurant entrance to the bar and were told by a somewhat curt server that, yes, the sunset menu is available at the bar (i thought we were at the bar?!), then he directed us to a very small private dining room next to the bar. it was totally closed off (so, none of the great views were able to be seen), had 6 tables in it, plus a giant tv. we seated ourselves and waited 7-10 minutes for someone to notice us. finally, a server came over and took our drink order and got us some menus. after another very long wait (15 minutes?) she finally came back and took our order. my hubby got the slider trio with sweet potato fries ($7 extra) and i got the risotto with artichoke and sundried tomato. the best thing about it was the sweet potato fries - they were some of the best i've ever had. the slider trio was so-so (the bbq slider saved the dish) and the risotto was salty and more suitable for a side dish, rather than an entree. the service was the real downer. after having our food for about 20 minutes with no one checking in on us, i had to go find someone myself to get a side plate and extra napkins. later, when we were ready to leave, we waited a good 25 minutes before i finally went to find our server to get our check. overall, this place has potential and the prices were reasonable, but the service was awful and the food was lacking. read more

I have come here a handful of times including both dinner and lunch. I would recommend always checking their hours since they do have an early close. This is not your average restaurant, it's at a golf course. So, just save yourself the trouble and verify they're open. I called in a reservation on new year's eve and thought it might be busy during lunch but with a call 2 hours in advance everything was fine. My reservation was at 1230pm and even though they closed at 130pm or 2pm that day due to the holiday, they still allowed us to sit and finish our food without kicking us out. So, for that, I appreciated their courtesy. The reason they get three stars is their menu is just so limited. Their dishes are good and the sizes are decent, but for the limited variety and the high prices, I think they can do better. I ordered a salad and tried the truffle fries and everything was just, OK. The reason I keep returning to this place is because of the spectacular views, polite staff, and nice ambiance. If you're a foodie, this is not necessarily the place. read more

This is the third time I've eaten here. Last two times were with functions for my kids' High School. It's a great place for those things. Not so good for a meal with the wife. Ordered off the sunset menu. Never tried the Carlsbad mussels before and they were quite good. Except they were supposed to come steamed with sausage. No sausage. Brought that to chef's attention and he brought out a plate of sausage. But it wasn't part of the preparation which I thought would have added something. The rest of the food order followed suit. When we placed our order, wifey pointed out that she doesn't do dairy. We were surprised to see the 6-oz ball of mozarella cheese that came with her salad. Hamburger was pricey at $11 on the menu, showed up at $14 on the bill. Mussels were $8 on menu, showed up as $10 on the bill. I brought up the overrings when the bill came and they discounted $3. Got tired of the awkwardness involved in each correction, caved, and payed $40 for appetizer, burger, beer, and salad (before tip). read more
