My colleagues and I come here fairly often for lunch, after work catch up, or farewells. We decided to take a new colleague there on 11/12/19. Two of us had a salad with shrimp, one person had a plain salad, and one person had a hummus sampler. All three of us that had salads experienced symptoms of food poisoning. And what food poisoning it was. It's a week later and all three of us are just now barely getting back right. We've tried at least 20 times to call and advise the staff that we got sick. Without fail, we get the voicemail saying they're busy and to call back in 5-10 minutes. Morning calls, afternoon calls, evening calls. Doesn't matter, we get the same message. So, as I sit here fighting off yet another wave of nausea, I'm leaving a review in hopes that they read this and realize that something with the salads clearly isn't right. read more

This is a great happy hour and go to bar with many many great food choices. I always get the honey habanero wings, get them, there so good. Staff here has always been friendly and on top of it. Pretty terrible! Cons: Pork Chili had hardly any pork in it but lots of potatoes (gag!). There is nothing shoestring about the shoestring fries (they were regular ole ass french fries). I asked for my salad first and they brought everything together. Happy hour is only $1 off drinks (but not cocktails or premium wine) which is super lame. Portions are stupid big for mediocre food. This isn't Houston! Prices are high for the quality you get. They are apparently trying to trick you by giving you a whole lot of cheap ass gross food. Wow this place really surprised me, this downtown sports bar had really good food. I got the chicken noodle soup. Such good flavor and definitely not boring! The mushroom burger was sooo good/juicy/flavorful...pretty unique for "bar food" the brussel sprouts were delish for the side as they were finely chopped and sauteed! I can say some quality food for it being a sports pub. Their beer menu had plenty of interesting options too for the beer lovers too! For being a first timer to denver i was impressed. I threw a surprise party for my boyfriend here last weekend and the owner and staff were absolutely amazing! The owner was super responsive to my numerous questions and the staff made sure everything was set up before everyone arrived! Cap City Tavern was perfect for what we were looking for. We wanted a place to grab a couple of drinks and some food before we continued site seeing around Denver. The beer selection was good and the bartender was kind. She didn't seem to know the menu or the beer very well and wasn't interested in offering suggestions. The food was decent. I would say it was average for bar food. They had a Touch Tunes and pool tables and an outdoor area. I came in around lunch time and I think this place would be good for more of an evening hangout and is probably busier and more lively. We have been to many, many bars to play Geeks Who Drink trivia so it says a lot about this bar in particular that this is the one the Yelp teams have decided to call their trivia home base. For me the reasons include the fast and friendly service, the clarity of the sound system and the drink specials. The food here is okay - pretty standard bar food. But, we are geeks who drink and not geeks who eat after all. The space is big with lots of rooms. As a matter of fact there was a poker tournament in a different room on Tuesday while we were there playing trivia. And I'm really looking forward to warm spring and summer nights so that we can sit outside on the big patio and play. Geek out. read more

I like this place as a bar, but I have to go down to 3 stars for the food. Burger = Not so good. It was tough and over-cooked when I asked for medium. Gyros = Not up to par. The Tzatiki was runny and the gryos were mediocre. Fries = Standard & tasty. I likegoing to trivia here though... The quiz-mistress is very cool and plays great tunes. The drinks are affordable and the waitstaff is nice. The trivia teams always have hilarious names. I'll be eating dinner beforehand from now on though. The only reason Cap City isn't getting a 5 star review is b/c I've only been once, and that one time... all I did was drink. But the drink I had hit every single nail on the head. It was freaking delicious. Let me back up. A few friends and I decided to start a serious quest to find the BEST BLOODY MARY in the Denver Metro Area. What can I say? We have big goals and big dreams. Out of the four places we tried this weekend, Cap City had my absolute favorite. You get to choose between house-made infused jalapeno? (or some sort of pepper) vodka, pepper vodka, or plain. Then you take your glass up to the bloody mary bar. 1) choice of bloody mary mix (which is delightfully "thick") or kalamata. 2) choice of spices (i used cajun seasoning). probably about 7-8 different seasonings. 3) choice of hot sauces (I'm talking 5-10 different bottles of sauces) 4) celery. pickles. olives, pickled cucumbers, carrots, garlic, cauliflower, red peppers. and some other stuff I couldn't fit into my glass. I wish I had had room for more. I could see myself spending an entire weekend morning/day here, drinking myself into oblivion and walking/stumbling home. Because did I mention that this spot is within walking distance for me? BONUS. I wish they had a bottomless bloody option. Next time, i'll try some food. read more

I was having one of my "I'm not eating gluten" weeks when I went here. Bad idea. My options were a baked potato or a salad. I didn't go to a tavern to eat a fricken salad, so I ordered a baked potato. It was, um, baked potato-y. It had bacon and sour cream and cheese on it. That's all I got. It was happy hour when I got there, so I ordered a glass of the house red for $3. Ew. That was the worst glass of wine I've ever had. No flavor. Just sort of sweetened water. Thing is, I've been here before when I *as* eating gluten and the food is pretty decent. As is the beer selection. The service is friendly. Not fast, not slow. I think they're about what you could expect at a bar/restaurant that's not billed as "fine dining." Overall, I would highly recommend that glutards stay away from this place, but if you're looking for a chilled out bar with a nice patio, this is a nice place to go. read more

I really wanted to like you Cap City, I really wanted to give you more than 2 stars. Here's why I gave you two stars: Service. It was not good. Usually when people order fries with their burgers, isn't it a no-brainer that you bring ketchup to the table? We had to flag the waitress down to get this and she dropped it off without a smile, a "sorry", "can I get anything else for you", or "how are your burgers?" Nada. After we finished our dinner and got the check, there was no offer for dessert and we probably wouldn't have ordered any to eat, but it's nice to have the offer. We paid our check and are waiting to have the girl pick up our payment, but we waited for a solid 15 minutes, and finally, we get up and hand deliver it to the girl and she has the gall to say, "Do you need change?" UM...YES! Really? This is SUCH an ignorant and rude question. Just get the damn change and wait for your piece of the pie, honey. The other thing that was really annoying and a huge turn off is that the manager was walking around the restaurant on his phone fielding a customer compliant (at least that is what it sounded like). It was really obnoxious and if you want to have a conversation with an unhappy customer, common sense would dictate to sit down in your little office and listen. Instead, this manager was acting as if he owned the joint and yapping loudly on the phone. Then, he comes near the bar and proceeds to bad mouth the customer to the waitresses, one of which had apparently served the complaining customer. Regardless of what the story is, take your business behind closed doors. It's so incredibly rude to have business conversations within the earshot of your patrons. I have no respect for somebody that operates a business this way. This attitude alone is enough for me to not return. Food: It's ok. My burger was cooked to my liking and it was pretty good. The fries on the other hand....need a lot of work. They were very dry and tasteless. Unfortunately, we did not experience anything out of the ordinary on this menu. read more

I like the Cap City Tavern. Even when its busy, the service is good. The drinks are delicious and the food is tasty and fresh. They have TV's and in door and outdoor seating. Because of it's close vicinity to my work, I started to frequent cap City about a year ago...And I am so glad I did. This is a true diamond in the rough. In a neighborhood known for being mostly municipal buildings, and a nightlife dud, Cap City is a spacious and very attractive venue. The bar staff, most notably Jacky, is incredible and the owners are always there interacting with their clientele. The only gripes I have, is that there isn't much of a craft beer selection, and the music is not my taste normally. There is a jukebox, but is (in my opinion) over priced, costing $1 per song (download)... All these things aren't that big of a deal to me as the positive far outweigh the negatives. Great drink prices. The spicy Diablo turkey sandwich is awesome and the sliders with fried pickles also make a frequent appearance to my face. I have been to Cap City two times for Trivia and really enjoyed the place. The servers are attentive and friendly, the food is pretty good as well. I wouldn't say it is amazing, but it gets the job done. The chips and queso are pretty bland until you mix some extra salsa in. Not that I didn't still eat all of it (with the help of my friend). Last night I tried the Greek salad, very delicious. Olives, tomatoes, cucumber, feta and tasty Greek vinaigrette. Our salads even inspired the name of our trivia team. It do think that $8.50 for a salad that doesn't even have chicken on it is a bit much. It was a good size, but I wasn't going to pay $12 for an average Greek salad at a bar. read more

Very bland. Service was the minimum you could get and not be starving or dying of thirst; the food was very bland (couldn't even taste the garlic on the 'garlic knots'). I'm sure it didn't help that both the garlic knots and the mozz sticks were burned/overcooked. We walked past 5 employees on our way out, including our waiter, and we weren't even acknowledged. The service is ok, mostly clean (sort of) and the crowd is somehow louder than most and I'm not against loud pubs. Despite that, we can't stop going back for the black truffle Mac and cheese! It's unreal delicious! The larger portion is so worth it! I mean unreal tasty. You MUST get it. Sadly, the service lacks the same amazingness and hadn't gotten better since we started going a couple of years ago. The bathrooms aren't super clean and the parking is somehow worse than other places downtown and I'm not even sure how that possible. I'm actually a little surprised a designated smoking area even exists anymore. It's definitely not well taken care of. We had the Bloody Mary bar and their Sunday brunch deals are great! Sadly though we had to scrounge for tooth picks, forks, etc to get stuff out of the small jars. There were none laying around which grossed me out wondering how many people before us just stuck their hands into the jars!!!!!! Sooooooo gross!!!!! But most of what they had for choices as far as sauces were good and the cheese stuffed olives were yummy. Yo! A bar with Snow white, Nacho Libre and a Sexy evil school girl! Oh yeah its geeks who drink trivia night, and some of the trivia participants dressed up! I came as a middle aged fat white guy and I pulled it off well! At first view the bar is a tad unassuming, upon entering you notice the exposed bricks and placement of various flat screen, its got a cool bar with a cute bartendress that was very nice! My traditional start at most places in a nice Jameson straight up with a Guinness, that's just how I roll! Well usually I have to pay attention to the bartender because typically they pour the Jameson in a stainless steel shaker and twirl it with ice before they pour it! I dont want mine chilled or dilluted, give it to my a natural bottle to glass! Well she grabbed the high ball glass, grabbed the Jameson by its neck, she then poured the drink, a very nice drink, no intervention needed! I was instantly smitten, I uttered will you marry me under my breath she graciously declined I told her I was talking to the Jameson! I made my way to the back to the Geeks busting their brains playing trivia! The booths were nice and the 3 flat screens were a cherry on top adding nice distraction in between trying to remember who played the Punisher on film. I could see the latest Highlight of Kobe posterizing a Portland Trailblazer! This place has a good feel, the waitresss came by often and I could see coming here to grab a drink or to watch some sports! Needless to say I think the Yelp Geek Trivia team who had a very strong showing has found a home! We thought we'd give Cap City Tavern a test on a Sunday afternoon to observe some midday football games. Having yet to find that perfect venue offering up awesome viewing screens, a pumped up crowd, stellar service, and good food and drink specials we thought maybe this could be it. Having heard it was a Viking's bar, I was stoked, however, it just so happened they were the Monday night game. Parking in the Golden Triangle was a bit difficult, however, after circling the blocks we lucked out in finding a spot in the back lot. I was psyched to see a back patio, however, the brisk October weather did not permit us the chance to watch the games on the patio. The place is cluttered with HD TV's decreasing any chance of having a seat that did not have a good view of a game. Drink specials during the game were nothing out of the ordinary. No unique draft options or crazy cocktail was on special, ultimately leaving us opting for what we thought was the best deal, that being the 24 oz cans of PBR (classy yet trendy). The atmosphere during the midday games was a bit lacking resulting in us venturing elsewhere after we finished our beverages. All in all, our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the intrigue of a venue for Minnesota fans will certainly bring me back for future Viking games. read more

Some friends, my husband and I stumbled upon this place when looking for a place to eat...it's within walking distance of the Denver Art Museum, which was its major draw at the time. As someone who has no idea about the culture of the place (as I can read in other yelp reviews), I was not impressed at all. Nebraska fans were collecting for a game, and our unrelated group was mostly ignored by wait staff. Took us way too long to get menus considering it was mostly empty when we walked in; one of our party eventually had to get up and ask. In fact, the whole meal took us FOREVER, from ordering to getting food to paying and leaving - even though we arrived before 90% of the game watchers and not many of them even ordered food. We got garlic knots as an appetizer, and those were quite delicious, but I got the gyros as my main course which was disappointing. My pita was filled mostly with tzaziki, with a bit of meat on the side. So although the meat seemed to actually taste pretty decent as far as gyros go, unless you pulled the meat out or scraped off huge globs of tzaziki, you couldn't really tell. If we had come for the game, etc, we probably would have had a much more enjoyable experience - but as it were, this place was maybe average, if that. read more

Cap City is a fun place. We stopped in last night before the Parade of Lights. You see we are Volunteers for the Parade. The food was great. We also commented that it was great that they would allow the Volunteers to use the restroom. I stopped in today and even though there were Parade of Light Volunteers in there eating, they have decided to ban the Volunteers from using the bathroom. The guy was down right nasty about it. I fully understand that by allowing it, there are added costs to the business, but it was also a way to give back to the community. The food is good and I have no complaints about the drinks but I have come here twice and both times the service has been unbelievably bad. I understand taking a long time bringing food or drinks out but what I don't understand is throwing my ID back on the table when I hand it to the waiter, or shouting at me when I ask a question about a drink. When I tried to pay so that I could leave, the server went past my table no less than 10 times before finally grabbing it and seemed noticeably put out by me trying to pay. I have been here twice now and both times I have felt like I was being a nuisance to my server and they were needlessly rude to me. read more

For some reason anytime I'm around the museum I must stop into this local bar. The drinks are cheap, the food is great and the atmosphere is hella chill. That spells out a great bar in my book. This is a great bar to enjoy a game, play some pool/shuffleboard or enjoy a beautiful day on their ample back patio. My husband and I checked out Cap City Tavern this past Tuesday night for trivia. We love bar trivia and since it was my last night in Denver, we thought it would be a fun way to end my trip. There is plenty of parking out front and the meters only run until 6 pm. We sat at the bar where we were waited on by a nice, attentive bartender who took good care of us throughout the night. We munched on the chips and queso which were pretty mediocre. I wouldn't get it again. Miller Light drafts were only $2 which is a great deal for a weekday. There were plenty of TVs throughout the space with some showing cycling and others showing baseball...so something for everyone. The audio for trivia wasn't the greatest, although I blame some of that on the annoying people sitting around us at the bar for part of the time. But even when they weren't talking, it was a bit hard to understand some of the audio questions. Other than some spotty audio, we had a lot of fun and even came in third! So now my husband has a $10 gift certificate to use to go back another Tuesday night with some of his intern buddies! read more

I keep wanting to like Cap City, and while not disappointed, not wow'ed. The most recent time my friends I went, we were informed that the cook had literally walked out that night, and so the kitchen was running a bit behind. No biggy we weren't in a rush. That said though our poor server was overwhelmed, so hardly came to see us, my medium burger was medium rare if medium at all. I came here with my girlfriend after we made a trip to the art museum. Overall it's a pretty tasty place with a cool ambiance and good food. I went for the calzone, which was enormous very delicious. There were plenty of toppings inside and it wasn't too dry, like some calzones are prone to be. We sat on the front patio, which gives a great view of the art museum and of the new construction next door. We were going to sit in the back but for some reason it smelled like butt. I don't know if the dumpsters are too close and the hot day meant wafting funk, but it was enough for us to switch to the front. The service was ample, the waitress was running the front patio herself and it was kinda busy so she didn't come around a heck of a lot but she was easy to grab if we needed anything. It's a pretty neat place, definitely laid back. I think its a Nebraska Cornhuskers bar as well, which doesn't do anything for me but if you're a fan of them there seemed to be an accumulation of red shirts as we were leaving. A sea of purple and gold and Vikings horns! Cap City Tavern is in my neighborhood AND you are a MN Vikings bar uff da I love it! Long O's and A's everywhere! A place where they know the difference between hot dish, casserole, and goulash! We have been coming here lately for the Vikings games and a couple others it is a great sports bar and they have a pretty decent menu. Their fajita salad is bomb! Get it without dressing and ask for a side of salsa - you will not be disappointed. I must say the service I have received here has been quite spotty. For example, we go here a busy game nights and it is spectacular! Then we come back on a Sunday morning when we are one of maybe 3 tables and we ended up leaving our service was so bad. I am still a big fan and I haven't been scared off yet but I am sure it will be hard for me to continue to bring big groups because some friends give up on bars easier. read more

We have been to Cap City Tavern on and off through the past 2 years. Each time, we have not been disappointed. The interior is clean, comfortable, and just a nice place to be! The service is very good, with absolutely no complaints. The menu has something for everyone, from chips and dips, salsa and chips, sliders, veggies, red and green chilis, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, calzones, mac and cheese (which I hear is out of this world, but I have yet to try it), ribs, tacos, chicken, fish and chips, and dessert! We had the ABLT (Avocado, Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato) Sandwich, and all I can say is - WOW!!!!! I LOVE BLATs, and this one was one of the best that I have ever had. In fact, I need to start of list of BLATs, and this one would be on that list WOW! I don't know what their secret is, but it was so incredibly good! There are 18 tv's with every seat in view of at least one of them. There is also a pool table and a large jenga too! Awesome! Are you looking for a place to play trivia, then Cap City Tavern is the place for you! There is also Hammerschlagen- The Hammer and Nail game on our back patio. I don't know what this is, or how to play it, but it sounds intriguing. There is the game of Cornhole as well. Parking is fairly easy in this part of town, so that's a plus too.
