    Upstairs Ambiance
    Sherry C.

Cute Italian joint with small + fresh selections, solid + strong drinks, pleasing ambiance (upstairs), and friendly staff, but it comes with a high price point. The food experience was based on the calamari, veal tortellini, + lobster ravioli with vodka bisque, paired with Tony's Negroni. What I loved about the experience was that upon entering we saw the main floor was booked (reservations recommended), but we were given an option of the bar or we could head upstairs and choose a seat. We walked upstairs and the vibe was open and pleasantly appealing with low violet lighting. It was definitely more of a relaxed vibe than the crowded and chatty downstairs, and what you prefer will depend on your own personal preference since both were appealing in different ways. The menu is small, so ensure you look before going. The table bread, I have to say, was nothing to note on. It was basically a thin french bread sliced into very small slivers. The calamari sharing plate was pricey at $18, however TOTALLY worth it. It may have been the largest calamari plate I've ever had. It was perfectly breaded and crispy. Tortillini has never been my thing, so I'll say it was alright, but wouldn't make me order tortellini more in the future. I initially wanted the Chicken Marsala, but they were out, so I went with the crab and lobster ravioli, which ended up being full of flavor, very fresh and satisfying. The vodka bisque it was plated in was also super tasty, you could have definitely dipped in some bread to savor it. I literally ate the whole thing it was so good. The drinks were DC-style cocktail pricey at $18, but they were also delicious and strong. Overall experience was pleasant, and it would be perfect for a casual date-night. I would go back to try more of the sharing plates, particularly the mussels which we didn't get, and while the drinks were a bit expensive, I'd be down for more.

Nonna's Lasagna: 9/10 Tucked on a corner in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, CapaTosta is home to some delicious italian inspired food. It's small but warm atmosphere is perfect for a girls night, dinner with family, & more! Their dishes are homemade with locally grown ingredients which makes way for some great food. The service was kind & accommodating. She was able to give us great recommendations and brought everything out quick. I highly recommend stopping by this cute little spot for some great food, service, & cocktails!

If you love Italian in an accessibly classy neighborhood spot, make a reservation at Capa Tosta in Pleasant Plains. My friend and I made last minute reservations for 7:45 p.m. on a Wednesday evening for dinner and drinks. We left impressed. Here's why. 1) Food: The menu is divided between starts, mains, and a surprisingly large dessert menu. My friend ordered the bolognese and I the chicken parm. We both really enjoyed our meals. The chicken parm is HUGE! It's a large thin cut of chicken on top of pasta. The pasta came with vodka sauce, which I don't usually like, but loved this one. It even outshined the chicken, which was also great. To start, complimentary warm bread came out. The oil and balsamic vinegar on the table went well with it. 2) Drinks: Italian drinks skew more bitter, but as a sweet drinker, I enjoyed the "Cali" with vodka, elderflower, lime, processo, and lemon peel. My friend really enjoyed the negroni. 3) Service: It was attentive and on point. They left us alone while taking care of our every need at the same time. 4) Space: It's a small space with a dining room, a bar, and an outdoor patio. Because it's more intimate, it makes for a great date spot. 5) Neighborhood: There's a lot to walk to in this neighborhood from restaurants in Park View to bars in Columbia Heights. We found street parking a few blocks from the restaurant.

    Pumpkin Ravioli
    Brittany L.

Micro Review Ordered delivery - dish still looked great! Ordered the pumpkin ravioli since its fall vibes. I don't enjoyed the filling and thought the pine nuts added a fullness to the sauce. One order of ravioli may be enough for a meal, but I'd recommend an appetizer to augment it if you're really hungry.

Capa Tosta is a casual Italian restaurant in Columbia Heights. It's a pretty simple menu with all the staples ravioli, lasagna, chicken parm etc. Our server was very nice and gave great recommendations. The food and drinks also come out very quickly. I had the lobster and crab ravioli, espresso martini and dio mio.

My wife is a frequent partner on my dining adventures, but she leaves the Yelp review writing to me. She'll often share her opinions on a place, but for this dining experience she insisted that I give it 5 stars and she was 100% correct! The dining area of this place has a great vibe - it's small and intimate without feeling crowded. They have a great selection of cocktails - I had the limoncello spritz and it was really good. The others in our group enjoyed their cocktails, too. For my entree, I got the Lobster and Crab Ravioli and it was quite tasty, The bisque sauce was very unique. My daughter got the Rigatoni Alla Vodka and loved it. I had a taste of it and it was delicious. As for my wife, she got the Bolognese. She is a big fan of Bolognese and gets it at many different places we visit and she says this was the best, by far!

Cute spot with yummy Italian food. Had nice service and food came out very quickly. Crispy artichokes were light and crispy and the pesto/ lemon sauce was yummy. We even dipped our bread in it! Our dishes were great too: Cavatelli Pesto and Orechiette pugliese! We didn't leave any leftovers! Sausage was so flavorful. Pesto sauce was light and fresh. If we had more room, we would have tried the dessert! This restaurant is cashless and also adds at 20% service tax, which our waiter kindly pointed out.

Chicken parm with pasta and sauce.

I was thinking of chicken parm all week. I get these cravings out of nowhere. Eater recommended Capa Tosta so I made a reservation. Parking was challenging. Metro was too far away. Eventually I found a spot...I was concerned as most of the houses and businesses had bars on the windows. I head into the restaurant. First impression is how small it is inside. Not a cut, just an observation. I would say it has a cozy kind of place good for a date or family dinner out. I grab a seat at the bar. I already looked at the wine selection so I decided on a glass of the house red. The menu has a lot of good choices but I ultimately decided on the chicken parmesan with pasta and sauce. It's a Thursday at dinnertime and I'm alone in the restaurant...maybe later things will pick up. My food arrives and smells delicious. I order a wine refill and I'm enjoying the tasty sauce and tender chicken. It's two tenders vs a chicken breast but no matter. Solid quality and taste. After a while I pay the check and I'm out. This is the second restaurant recommended by de.eater.com that has been in a rough neighborhood. I'll be doing my research elsewhere. When you're worried about where you parked and whether the car will be there when you're done eating it makes the dining experience less enjoyable.

GF penne pasta vodka with chicken

I came to Capa Tosta for a friend's graduation celebration and was really impressed! We had the entire upstairs space to ourselves for the evening with two large tables to accommodate everyone. There was a bar upstairs as well, although it was really just a space for serving water and taking beverage orders since all drinks were made downstairs and brought up to us. The menu had a great selection and they even had gluten free penne pasta! Yay! I started with an aperol spritz and then shared brussel sprouts and truffle fries with some of my tablemates. Holy moley, the brussel sprouts were amazing. Dare I say, some of the best I've ever had? The truffle fries were good too, very flavorful and a nice shoestring cut. I got the gluten free penne with vodka sauce and chicken as my entree. It was well prepared and was a generous serving size (enough for leftovers). It's always a little questionable ordering gluten free pasta because if it is overcooked even just a little it will quickly fall apart. The dish came out perfectly al dente. They knew exactly what they were doing! I also ordered an espresso martini for after the meal but unfortunately, it never came. I'm thinking it must have just gotten lost in the shuffle - it was a huge party after all. Overall, this was a great meal surrounded by great people! The owner even came up to say hi and he was super nice (and actually Italian which is always a plus in my book). Saluti!

Super cozy, warm, and a great Italian place to check out. I have friends over the town and they are craving good Italian food. It was absolutely amazing flavor. It's not factory-made salt and spicy flavor, it's a well-trained or friend's mom's awesome meal for loved ones. A group of six ordered 12 entrees. That's how it is, and we're stuffed, but we can't stop trying more and more. I strongly recommend to people who really want to have home-cook style Italian meals.

Not saying that dining companions are distracting, but I felt like I could fully experience the flavor of both the Taglioni Neri and Gnocchi, both half portions at $10 each, better on my own. When the dishes came, I saw that the sauces were both red and feared they would taste too similar. After one fork full of each, they are quite clearly distinct. The standout in the Neri were the shellfish for me. Even though they were small bits, the pieces tasted fresh. In the Gnocchi, the saltiness of the prosciutto, though not overwhelming, paired well with the basil sauce. I finished a little more than half of each plate before boxing it up for a small lunch the next day. The service was great and the tall ceiling and windowed dining room provided a nice atmosphere. It was a cloudy and rainy Memorial Day, but I wondered what the sunlight looked like shining through those high windows. How lovely a space they have created to enjoy fine Italian dining in.

However, when we walked in and saw only a couple of tables occupied, I had a feeling it might not live up to its appearance. Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 4/5 Service - 3/5 Food - 1/5 Parking - Street Parking Atmosphere - The restaurant is modern, clean, and well maintained. The dining room is attractive and comfortable, and it feels much more upscale than your average Korean restaurant. Service - Service was adequate. Nothing stood out as particularly good or bad. The staff took our order, brought out the food, and checked on us occasionally. What We Ordered - -Galbi - At over $40, this was by far the most disappointing dish of the meal. I've had galbi at countless Korean restaurants, many of which charge under $30 while delivering significantly better flavor and quality. The seasoning was noticeably different from what I'm accustomed to, and not in a good way. For the price, it felt extremely underwhelming. -Pa Jeon - Just okay. It was a standard Korean pancake that didn't stand out in any particular way. -Tofu Stew - We ordered it mild, but it was surprisingly spicy and excessively salty. The saltiness overwhelmed most of the other flavors in the dish. -Korean Fried Chicken - Unfortunately, this suffered from the same issue. The chicken itself was decent, but it was far too salty, making it difficult to enjoy. Final Thoughts - The biggest issue for me was the value. Nearly every dish felt overpriced for the quality being served, and the excessive saltiness across multiple items made the meal even more disappointing. While the restaurant looks great and has a modern atmosphere, the food simply did not justify the prices. Considering how many excellent Korean restaurants I've been to over the years, this was one of the more disappointing experiences. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return.

I get it Get on board please... this is not the stone age and we have technology... its also a very very common thing for extra protein.. This is not typical and id guess that less than 2% of the placedls I eat cant figure this out... DC was not a place I'd think would be stuck. Won't be eating here again for this week's stay simply because I dont want to have to wrangle the meal each time ... I just would like to eat and go.. Thank you for figuring it out late at night This is more for management... you got good food and good folks.. fix your POS please.

Ate for breakfast. Horribly inefficient seating process, takes 10 minutes of waiting in line for…read morethe hostess to get to me. She's working hard, just having to do everything herself. I'm told the buffet is the fastest, I look down at the menu. No buffet even listed, I guess I'll never know what's included or the price. Server very kind, coffee very mediocre. Breakfast is the same.
